The Trudeau government will announce plans for a high-speed train linking Quebec City and Toronto in the coming weeks, Radio-Canada has learned.
Proponents of the project hope the train will take passengers from Montreal to Toronto in three hours. By car, it takes about five-and-a-half hours to travel between the two cities.
Sources told Radio-Canada the train will travel 300 kilometres per hour â double the speed of Via Rail's current trains.
Ottawa announced plans back in 2021 to build what it called a "high-frequency" (HFR) rail corridor with stops in Toronto, Peterborough, Ottawa, Montreal, Trois-RiviĂšres, Laval and Quebec City. Sources told Radio-Canada the federal government has now decided the Toronto-Quebec City link will be high-speed. [...]

Iâm sure thereâs a canon reason why obi-wan chose Ben as his new name multiple times but consider: thatâs his older brotherâs name and he doesnât actually remember this because he doesnât remember much of anything about his biological family at all. Ben just sounds right, like heâs heard it a thousand times before. So he starts using it for all of his undercover work or missions and then eventually when he gets to Tatooine post ROTS
meanwhile of course obi-wanâs older brother Ben Kenobi is incredibly confused as to why he sometimes arrives on a planet for the very first time only to find out that heâs been banned from ever stepping foot there again
#Kitâs silly lil AUs#sorta#big brother ben au#mostly just a headcanon that Iâm using in a fic#that I wanted to write more on#also imagine darth vader catching wind of a ben kenobi traveling to coruscant#and he captures him immediately#thinking itâs obiwan using the worst cover name ever#and itâs really just obi-wanâs brother#funniest if itâs obiwans twin#who just isnât force sensitive and is VERY confused#meanwhile vader is like ok budget obi-wan this will have to do i guess

Weâre getting a clearer picture of the massive cuts TransLink says are coming to Metro Vancouverâs transit system after 2025 if it canât secure stable funding.
The agency has repeatedly warned that it faces an annual funding gap of about $600 million from what is needed to operate the system.
A new report prepared for the TransLink Mayorâs Council obtained by Global News and set for release Thursday outlines the potential for severe system-wide cuts.
Those cuts would include slashing bus service in half, reducing SkyTrain and SeaBus service by up to one-third and potentially scrapping the West Coast Express rail service entirely. [...]

Note from the poster @el-shab-hussein: This should be pissing you off a LOT. A whole lot. This is cutting funding to an essential service with no similarly affordable backup or alternative being present for its users.

why is "yeah TOS was so low budget they had nothing but 2 pennies and glitter glue and a dream" such a common sentiment on this site. Star Trek was the most expensive show on air at the time. it cost huge amounts of money and constantly went over budget, and it was constantly on the verge of cancellation in big part because of this. the amount of money being poured into it was a part of why it did get cancelled- it was getting low ratings and consistently costing the studio an arm and a leg each episode
I get that the effects and everything in Star Trek look low budget by today's standards, but it was anything but low budget. if you want to see what low budget sci-fi looked like in the late 60s, then I suggest Doctor Who, which ran on a budget of pocket lint, shoelaces, and a dream
#star trek: tos#this is strictly about TOS I cant speak for the budget situations for the other Treks#but yeah I see a lot of posts with the sentiment of like. wanting to return to TOS days of being constrained by low budgets and im like yal#the budget was not the constraint with TOS the constraint was what was possible to do at the time#and even when the budget was a constraint they just. went over budget. repeatedly#but TOS is nearly 60 years old!!#they simply did not have the means we do now#and im not even talking CGI- I mean things like practical effects and makeup and costuming and set design/set building#that was what they had to work with at the time! that was the best they had!#genuinely if you want low budget 60s sci fi you want Doctor Who#Doctor Who's budget was the moth that flies out of a wallet in a Looney Tunes bit#at one point Doctor Who's already minimal budget got slashed so bad they literally wrote out the TARDIS#like she was still there! but the Doctor couldnt use her and was stuck on Earth with UNIT#because they literally did not have the budget for there to be space/time adventures#they LITERALLY did not have the budget for the entire point of the series- to travel in space and time#and they made it work#Star Trek was fucking rolling in it by comparison

Exploring Nagasaki: A Church, Some Sky, and My Wallet Cried
I was wandering through Nagasaki the other day, taking in the sights and sounds of this beautiful city. Thereâs so much history here, from Gunkanjima (Battleship Island) to the poignant Glover Garden, that itâs easy to get swept up in it all. As I walked by Oura Church, one of Nagasaki's most famous landmarks, I thought to myself, Iâll pop in for a quick visit.
But then, as I approached, I saw the sign: 1000 yen entry fee. My first thought was, Ouch. I hesitated, looking at the price and wondering if it was really worth it. After all, Iâd just paid 1800 yen for the Gunkanjima Distal Museum ticket, and I still had the Glover Garden entrance fee (650 yen) to cover. Add lunch and dinner into the equation, and suddenly, my budget was looking pretty tight. When I travel I set a budget for the day so I don't overspend...
I stood there for a moment, staring at the entrance, and then thought, Iâll give this a pass. Maybe next time Iâll splurge on the entry fee if Iâm in the mood, but today wasnât that day. I turned away, content to admire the church from the outside.
