Arlene: That is such a cheat you know. Brooke: But oh so handy for not wrinkling that gorgeous dress before I put you back in your chair.

She chuckled as she used a simple levitating spell to give Arlene the freedom to put on the dress without the risk of it being ruined by her being locked to her chair. Floating in the air like this you could see that she had a little movement in her legs these days, but they would not carry her in any way.

Brooke: You know… you could float to the aisle, and “stand” next to John if you wanted to?

Arlene looked at Brooke, a part of her would love it, because it would feel so good to once again stand alongside John, but it wasn’t really her. She had embraced what happened to her that day, she had always made the best of it. 

Arlene: You know, I might say yes to that for the first dance if you could levitate all four of us? I mean, we have trained on dancing with the chair, but I think that would be even more magical than “walking” to the altar.

Eltanin: Oh that would be so cool! Although I am pretty sure Devan can levitate us himself. -he chuckled as he knew Devan did that sometimes when they danced, and he loved it.- Just so you only have one couple to focus on. Brooke: Deal, you ask Devan, I’ll handle the other two, first dance, floating style! -she smiled, hearing a beep on her phone.- Ah, I shall be right back, your best man is here El.

Super mild Candela ch. 4 spoilers!

I want to talk about Alex Ward as an actor because I feel like not enough people do and he’s seriously fucking incredible.

Obviously the dude’s great at playing monsters, that’s what he mainly does professionally and what he’s most known for outside of the TTRPG space, but I just love watching the way he plays regular people.

Alex does so much with so little. His expressions are very subtle and he tends to play people who are more soft-spoken (until they’re very much not), but you’re never left wondering what he’s thinking. Even when playing people who keep things close to the chest, he leaves his heart on the floor.

He’s an extremely intuitive performer with such a deep understanding and empathy for the people he plays. He almost never breaks character, even if the focus isn’t on him — I encourage everyone to keep an eye on him during the church scene in this most recent Candela episode — everything Edgar is going through is so inherently felt that there were times where I just couldn’t tear my eyes away. You know things about this man without him ever needing to speak them out loud.

That subtlety and focus only serves to make the moments where his characters are pushed to edge even more explosive than they would be otherwise; you really feel that he’s been holding back for hours and just can’t fucking take it anymore — but they still feel perfectly timed! (We saw this with Edgar but there’s a moment in season 4 of LA by Night that comes to mind as well).

It’s so incredible to watch someone so dropped-in like this. Alex has been one of my favorite role players in the community for years and I’m so happy he’s finally getting more of the recognition he deserves.

So if you’re enjoying him on Candela Obscura, watch LA and NY by Night! Watch his episode of 10 Candles: Eclipse! You’re in for a real treat. This is a man who is great at playing monsters, but this is also a man who is great at playing people.

[Max is walking across the Blackwell Campus when she suddenly finds herself surrounded by Victoria, Taylor and Courtney. Victoria is scowling with a mixture of annoyance and envy.]

Victoria: You. With me. Now.

[Taylor and Courtney grab Max's arms before she can protest. The next moment, Max finds herself getting frog-marched into Victoria's dorm room, where she inexplicably finds Chloe, Rachel, Kate, Alyssa, Brooke, Dana, Juliet and Steph all gathered. All seven girls sport various looks of amusement and confusion at their current situation.]

Max: [Pulling herself free.] Okay, what is this all about?

Victoria: You mean it's not obvious? I want you to tell me exactly how the fuck you managed to pull every girl of note in Arcadia Bay after only three months at Blackwell!

[Max has no answer. In fact, she doesn't seem too sure herself.]

Chloe: [Grins.] Well, me and her are childhood friends who've been crushing on each other pretty much since we first met.

Rachel: [Shrugs.] As it turns out, Chloe's only available as part of a package deal with Max. [Winks at Max before licking her lips.] Not that I'm complaining, of course.

Kate: [Nervous.] She's been nothing but nice to me in all the time I've known her.

Alyssa: I'd have at least six serious concussions if it wasn't for her constantly looking out for me.

Brooke: Eh, Warren turned out to be an ass, and I wanted to be able to say that I Korrasamied.

Dana: She's sweet, nice, cute, and surprisingly good in bed.

Juliet: Same. [Narrows her eyes at Victoria.] Oh and by the way, you're welcome to Zak if you're really that desperate.

Steph: [Shrugs.] After Dana joined, we decided we needed someone who could bring some semblance of order to…whatever this is. I'm a lesbian who manages theatre shit and tabletop games; they figured I was a natural fit for the position.

[A silent pause occupies the room.]

Victoria: ...This isn't fair.

[Victoria turns around and storms out. Taylor and Courtney look at each other, before looking at Max.]

Taylor: So...can we join?

With that she left the two with Vy for whom smiled at his two little ones. They were both so strong, and he loved the idea of them getting married together. It fit them, they always did everything big together. Even now that they lived apart, all birthdays were celebrated together, no matter what they were busy within their lives. 

Arlene: Is dad ready? Vy: Yes, he just wanted to make sure everything would fit your chair, then he is ready. 

He put a hand on his daughter's shoulder. She looked gorgeous sitting in her chair with her dress on, but he so wished that he had been able to stop what happened that day, so that she wouldn’t have to sit like this.

Arlene: Still not on you mom. Vy: I am beginning to think you are a mind reader. Arlene: I am not, but I do know you. -she smiled, putting a hand over her moms- I’m happy this way, I have all I could have wished for in my life. ?: Not all can say that.

Everyone in the room spun around from the familiar voice, a small squee slipping from Arlene as she saw her older brother stand there.
