Orphaned Podcast Part 3 bc why not
Dick: Well, here's the thing, I had no idea who Bruce Wayne was before I got adopted by him.
Jason: Really?
Dick: Yeah, because I wasn't from Gotham and was like, eight. So when I was in the juvenile detention center, everyone started freaking out about how Bruce Wayne was there and flipping his shit.
Jason: And you just thought...
Dick: I just thought that he was a random guy that was going to kill someone.
Jason: *laughs*
Dick: I have never seen Bruce that mad again. I don't know if it was just my little kid brain exaggerating everything, or he was just genuinely the most pissed off he's ever been.
Dick: And then he demands to take ME home.
Jason: Holy shit. You were probably shitting yourself.
Dick: I was way past shitting myself. I was like... shitting other people's pants.
Jason: *laughs harder*
Dick: I fully thought I was going to die.
Jason: *still laughing* I'm so sorry, that's horrible.
(for the record, Bruce was freaking out because they put a grieving kid in juvenile detention centre because the orphanages were full, but they didn't even try to contact foster homes.)

I feel like I've complained about Tim's email situation in Gotham Knights before (edit: I have), but the truth of it is just so funny.
He's signed up for so many podcasts, video game streamers, and random news alerts; it's just a constant barrage of data going straight into his constantly whirring brain. Hell, he even floats the idea of the Batfamily having their own podcast as a way to correct misinformation about them (which Jason shoots down instantly), and it's made me realize something.
Timothy Drake would be a YouTuber.
In this universe specifically, Timothy Jackson Drake, the heir to Drake Industries and the foster son of the late Bruce Wayne would be a YouTuber.
Think about it. It'd be the perfect cover. Who would ever suspect that some 16-year-old nepo baby with a YouTube channel could ever be Red Robin? You'd have to be mad. I mean, look at him.
Red Robin just dropped out of literal thin air and garotted someone four times his size, and you expect anyone to believe that's the same kid who does 24-hour Minecraft charity streams and occasionally drops 6-hour video essays (his last one was on Lex Luthor's illegal bit mining operation on the moon)?
That kid?
You think that kid is Red Robin?
Ch'yah, okay, sure. And the Joker is funny 🤡.
#gotham knights game#I'm now incorporating this into all my Tim headcanons across the multiverse#twice a week as part of maintaining his Normal Teenager Identity#he streams random shit on YouTube/Twitch#he's got the full gamer set up in the background#LED lights around the ceiling and walls#rainbow keyboard/headset#mini fridge filled with Monster Energy Drinks#(other streamers have 'take a shot' prompts in chat. his audience has 'drink water before you die')#whenever he hosts a charity stream Bruce makes an appearance in chat via the official Wayne Enterprises account#and promises to match whatever they raise#and then hangs about for a bit to cheer Tim on#he's the epitome of 'are ya winning son?' meme#meanwhile off screen#Tim's keeping an eye on a seperate monitor#and helping Babs run remote ops#if his stream suddenly dies (which is does fairly often) he blames it on the Manor having shitty wifi#and that tracks#it's an old house#it's probably FILLED with lead and dead signal spots#in reality Tim killed the stream because Red Robin is needed#and no one will ever know

To be or not to be (a blackmailer) part 2
After the incident with Damian, word spread throughout the Wayne family, and now everyone was fighting over who would get to meet the newest member of the family (aside from Alfred, who was simply too dignified for something like that, and Bruce, who knew that Danny was coming over next weekend to visit the foster kittens.)
Jason was the next to interact with Danny, and contrary to what anyone says, it was purely by accident that he managed to bump into the kid.
Danny was chasing after a ghost who had stolen his newest invention for a Wayne Industries competition. He was hoping to use the invention to gain an internship in the engineering department and finally get out of the fast food industry. The ghost was a child and seemed to grab anything shiny or even remotely interesting.
He'd chased the kid all the way to a warehouse in Crime Alley where the kid lost steam and gave up the chase. Danny grabs the device, rips open a bright green portal, and shoves the kid through before quickly closing it again.
He's not in a hurry to head home, and he kinda needs to stop at the store anyway for a few ingredients before Tim comes by for dinner, so he transforms out of ghost form after making sure no one is around. He doesn't really come to Crime Alley often, so he wasn't expecting the mugging he was being subjected to by some creep with a pocketknife. He wasn't surprised (it's Crime Alley after all) but he'd been going over his grocery list in his head.
He was debating whether to completely ignore the guy or to punch the guy in the face when Red Hood came out of nowhere and smacked him around before turning to Danny and making sure he was ok.
Danny, of course, has to say something snarky while at the same time reassuring the hero that he was, in fact, just dandy.
Jason didn't rush all the way over here for nothing and racked his brain for any ideas that would let him hang with Danny. He didn't have to, though, because Danny stared at him with starry eyes and enthusiastically asked for an autograph AND a picture in one breathless sentence. Mentally punching the air he brings out his own phone and they both get pictures of the duo.
Jason only wanted the photo to rub it in everyone's face while Danny wanted a keepsake of his favorite Gotham hero. No matter what Tim said, Red Robin was Not the best and that was something they'd just have to agree to disagree on even if Tim did grumble about it every time it was brought up.
Red Hood drove Danny to the store and even waited for him to finish so he could drive him home. A few more pics in hand, and a dazed Danny was dropped off at his apartment.
The Wayne manor was in an uproar when the pics hit the Batfam group chat.

My Roman Empire is if the Batkids never met Bruce, how would they turn out?
Dick is left to the court, a brainless Talon, the Grey Son.
Jason would've never died to Joker. He'd left on the streets. Would he have died on the streets? Would he have died to Joker as a hostage instead of Robin?
Tim would've grown up alone in that empty house. He'd grow up to be a CEO just for the Drakes, not Wayne. Would he still somehow catch Ra's attention with his brain? Would he still get to follow heroes?
Would Steph die in line? Would she forever be tied to her father?
Would Cass continue to be homeless, to never understand people? Would she continue to run from her father?
Would Damian be possessed by his grandfather? Would he grow to be the heir? Would he die in action? Would he fight Bruce, never knowing he's his father? Would he know and not care?
Would Duke be lost to the foster system? Would he die on the streets?
What would have happened? Would they have been better off? Or would they suffer the same?

Drake's family secret #2
Previous Part
Tim was prepared, he had done as much research / digging as he could squeeze in between meetings, even going so far as rescheduling some of them to get more time until the tour guide would lead the high school students to his office.
Some things he had found were worrying even to the point of wanting to just take Danny and move him permanently to Gotham. Even if he knew that Gotham wasn't the safest city either. He had seen the other boy's interest in the aerospace department through the cameras, but with his digging he had found that Danny had been on a fast track for a Junior Space Program with the grades to support it.
Diggin that information up had made Tim proud, thinking that if there was something good about the Drake family it was that both Danny and him appear to have a very good set of brain cells. Though that proud feeling didn't last long when he dug further.
Because then an accident happened to him, leaving him with his last medical record stating a heart condition. After that there were no more dated medical records. In addition the timing of the accident lined up with when Danny's grades pummeled. He went from a A student to a C student in the month following the accident. Not only that but it also appeared that he racked up quite the number of teacher complaints to which he then got labeled as a delinquent student in his files.
Tim had narrowed his eyes at the screen as he lined up the timeline, with some additional information he had found about Amity Park. That information had not been easy to dig up, he had rescheduled at least two meetings so he could work uninterrupted on the strange firewalls that were protecting it, and even then he only got a handful of newspaper clips out of it. But that had been enough, for now.
Because Danny Fenton's accident and declining grades lined up with the appearance of a ghost menace hero Invis-o-Bill. A coincidence? Definitely not. Looked like hero-ing wasn't just a Wayne family thing.
Either way Tim had dug up a lot in a short amount of time about his possible brother. He was still missing a lot of puzzle pieces but he figured he could probably get that information once he made a successful first contact with Danny.
Which was about to happen in a little more than 5 minutes.
His eyes flicked to the door, then to the live security camera feet on his laptop. Yep they were right outside his door. Taking a deep breath and closing his laptop Tim moved to lean on his desk from the front, facing the door.
His plan was easy. give the kids a little motivational speech, spout some inspiring nonsense of 'you too can achieve great things' before dismissing cheerfully but hold Danny back, because his last name was Fenton and Tim 'recognised' it from a list of potential scientist to investment. Have a successful talk and show some interest in the - weird he actually didn't want to touch on but probably will have to consider because Danny had an accident that gave him meta powers that made him decide to go out as meta hero - stuff Danny's foster parents were researching. Ruffle his hair and subtitle pluck one of his hairs in that motion.
For a first DNA test that would be enough. Even if blood or spit would definitely be better, since he had no guarantee to also get the hair root if he just plucked one.
When the knock on his door resounded he cheerfully told them to come in and started phase one of his grand first contact plan. If anyone asked him what he told the students afterwards, he probably wouldn't be able to recount anything he told them as 'motivational speech'. He did his best though to not let his eyes constantly wander over towards the boy.
He took a little satisfaction in the fact that one of the two close friends his possible brother had appeared to be starry eyed at the fact that they got to meet him. That definitely would come in handy later on.
When some of the students started to look rather bored with their attention wandering, Tim thought that this was probably the best timing to enter phase two. Dismissing them with some scripted farewell words, he waited a little. As he expected Danny and his two friends lacked behind when the students left his office.
He cleared his throat, catching their attention. "Mr. Fenton?"
Danny looked at him wide eyed as he turned around to stare at him and Tim internally laughed. "Your parents are on our list of Scientists for possible investment. If you have the time, would it be possible to have a little chat right now?"
He noted how Danny exchanged a look with his friends and the girl among them instantly started to glare at him suspiciously as Danny's seemed to narrow. He cleared his throat once more. "I will ensure that you will get safely back to the hotel your school is staying at. I just think this would be the perfect chance to learn a bit more about ecto-science? That was what they called it, right?"
Okay, plan was not going as hoped as Danny was now full on glaring, not as heated as the girl but still glaring. His other friends had now also lost the starry eyed look in his eyes and was watching him with clear suspicion.
Damage control, damage control! Stop sounding so formal! His mind screamed as Tim once more cleared his throat nervously. "If now is inconvenient, maybe we could meet for a coffee later? I really am hoping to learn a bit more than what's written in stuffy reports."
"We got some free exploring time tomorrow afternoon. It's Tim Drake! We could at least hear him out." One of his friends stage whispered to Danny who continued to watch him with narrowed, glaring eyes.
"Tucker, no." Danny whispered back before addressing Tim. "Sorry, I have no interest in my parents work."
Before Tim could say anything else Danny dragged his friends out of his office to catch up with the other students. Leaving Tim stunned before he dragged a hand down his face. So much for phase two of his first contact plan.
"Okay noted, his parents' research is not the best way to open up contact." Tim muttered before walking around his desk and opening his laptop again. He needed to readjust his plans. Luckily one of Danny's friends, Tucker, gave him some valuable information.
Maybe he could convince Steph or Duke to go to the mall with him to make it appear more natural. Dick could also be an option, he was in town at the moment. But either way that would also risk further questions, when he 'coincidentally' ran into Danny Fenton. He didn't think reasoning with Dick about some good old brotherly bonds would distract his eldest brother long enough.
Maybe it was about time to get at least one of his siblings in on the Drake's family secret.
Or not depending, he could also check their exploring route via the city cameras and then just go coincidentally into the same coffee or food place Danny and his friends happened to go to.
Yeah that sounded better than getting his siblings involved already.

I now have a writing brain worm because of you.
Reading the shared darling au, with Captain Marvel viewing us as a parent or sibling made my heart just squeal from wanting to pinch his cheeks. (Auto correct used punch instead of pinch.)
Reading yandere Bat Fam, especially non-platonic yandere Bruce, made me think of how goopy this man is for his kids and how he'd probably be feral for a partner who also loves adopted children the same. (As evident from Selina, but with cats.)
So imagine with me if you will, we're a civilian in Fawcett. (don't know if I wrote that right.) You see a 12 year old boy around the city who's obviously homeless, but he tries to help as many people as possible.
You make food that's good cold, will last awhile without a fridge, or is so fresh it's still steaming for this kid. You give him blankets and clothes that are too big because it's better for him to grow into them. You don't know where he disappears to during a crisis and it's eating you up inside. So you offer your place in case of emergencies, or if he just wants to come by.
Eventually, he trusts us and slowly starts appearing every now and again. You already turned a guest room in your apartment into his room. It's like having an outdoor cat, but it's a kid. You offer getting him enrolled in school again, through the Internet so it's easier for his lifestyle and cause you want him to succeed even if it's not in your home. He gets so emotional that he asks if you could be his parent. You say that you'll try your best and work to get a foster license. Billy lays low so CPS won't try to take him again since this is a home he found and wants to stay.
Meanwhile, Batman found out that Captain Marvel was a 12 year old named Billy Batson. An orphan with no shelter, food, or clean clothes. Who runs from every foster home he's been in. He debates how he's going to either adopt the kid or is going to find a way to make him stop being a Hero until he's older.
Bruce is deep in thought when new information on Billy surfaces. He's registered as a student for online classes. Bruce sees this as the opportunity to get the kid in Gotham. By offering these online students and their parents the ability to tour Gotham Academy campus, all fairs paid as well as accomodations, on the chance they will win a full ride for the Academy of three of them. Room and board for said winning students and their parents offered jobs at Wayne Enterprises, as well. Not as anything major, unless you have the skills for it, but still a good job with amazing benefits.
Billy is mildly excited at the prospect of going to an actual school. And the possibility of you also getting a better job with better benefits. There's also the fact that, in the city of crime, it'd be easier for you to legally become a foster parent and/or adopt him!
You two decide to take the offer. Billy feels guilty for leaving Fawcett, even though there's no guarantee he'll win. He also made sure to ask others to check in on his city in case anything happens.
While on the tour, the group gets held hostage by a gang who's leader wants to become an official Rogue. One thing leads to another and you get shot through the right side of your chest while trying to shield Billy.
This leads Bruce to having his own trauma brought back up and the guilt of orchestrating all of this, even if it was to try to give a kid a better life. All the other parents back out of the 'contest' but you have to go to the hospital in Gotham. Bruce pays for all treatments and opens his home to Billy while the kid waits for us to recover, visiting every single day. Billy gets the scholarship on the basis he accepted it and was the only one willing to.
Bat Fam grow to think of Billy as a brother and, other than Bruce, kinda hope the kid's guardian doesn't make it or stays in a coma. Bruce on the other hand is wracked with guilt. He made Billy go through the same trauma he did.
He also becomes obsessive over you, given the fact that you acted as such a good parent. And that you were like him, trying to adopt a feral child that trusted no one. The more he looked into your background and your actions, the more he wanted to get to know you as a person.
When you finally wake up, it's to Billy tapping away at some school work. Chocking out, "Bil-ly?" Gets the tiny boy to launch at you.
You find out about everything and feel guilty that the billionaire paid your medical bills and that you don't know how to repay him back. Bruce uses this to his advantage and asks you to be a secretary. Obviously, while we're learning to walk again and have physical therapy, the best way to move around is a wheelchair. Thank goodness Bruce is already prepared for that.
It was so kind to let you and Billy into his home after the injury. Even the rest of Bruce's Brood have come to like you after a while. From corralling business men, making coffee, volunteering at animal a homeless shelters, trying pilates or aerobics, and learning a bit of ballet as you regain control of your body.
You're walking again! You have money from your nice job. You're looking into getting an apartment for you and Billy.
That last part most definitely doesn't fit anyone else's narrative of how it should be.
...did i write anything about Captain Marvel? 🤔 Or did you just mean my fics made you think of him? lol
EITHER WAY this was really good & cute, thanks! I'm glad I inspired you <3
#yandere dc#yandere batfam#yandere batfamily#x reader#reader insert#lycheeasks#btw i myself will never write anything with children (whether that's adopted or biological kids) bc i simply don't want any ever

WIP guessing game: help
"I know about Billy, Marvel," Batman says, and Billy . . . blinks.
"You know?!" he sputters. Okay, so apparently his secret identity was just . . . literally never a secret at all, then. Which, well–Batman, so that just figures, really. So actually this is kind of a relief and might even mean that he's fine with–
"Yes," Batman confirms with a nod. "So I understand your current reservations about parenthood."
. . . wait what.
"Huh?" Billy says, blinking stupidly at him.
"I don't know how much of you is still C.C. Batson or what you do or don't remember about being him," Batman says. "But the resemblance is undeniable, if nothing else. Certainly your and your wife's deaths were . . . well, suspicious. And you're hardly the first archeologists to dig up a god or six."
Oh, okay. Well.
This is apparently what Billy gets for his personal mental image of a "hero" being his dad, then, isn't it.
Crap.
"To be honest I've been looking for Billy for a while now, I just didn't want to bring it up before I found him," Batman admits, looking dissatisfied with himself. "My most recent reliable intel puts him in Fawcett City, but I assume you're aware of that, given your evident attachment to the place."
"You're looking for Billy?" Billy asks incredulously. "Why?"
"Because he's your son," Batman says. "And because he's a homeless child who's been abused and neglected and needs help. I honestly don't know where you go when you're not being Captain Marvel–frankly I'm not sure if you even exist when you're not being Captain Marvel, given what little I actually know about your powers and your death and your role as the Champion of Magic and just how damn impossible you are to find when you're off-duty–but I'm assuming that wherever it happens to be is not necessarily conducive to providing a stable home environment and being legally dead certainly can't be helping with that, so my original intention was to find the boy and help you arrange some manner of care for and visitation with him. And given the revelation of your relation to Robin, well . . . I'd like to take Billy in myself, if you'd both be comfortable with that. It seems . . . appropriate, under the circumstances."
"You want to foster Billy because I'm Robin's soulmate?" Billy says, absolutely positive that he's misunderstood literally every single word that just came out of Batman's mouth. There is no possible way that he did not.
"It's not exactly out of my wheelhouse," Batman replies wryly. "Although I'll be keeping this one out of the tights, ideally. Though I make no long-term promises about that because quite frankly at this point I'm spoiled for soulmates who insist on wearing capes and I wouldn't really be surprised to turn up another one, especially given that Robin is yours and your own involvement in the superhero community."
Billy stares at him.
"Wait, are all the Gotham vigilantes your soulkids?" he blurts unthinkingly.
"Not all," Batman says. "But, well . . . probably more of them than you'd expect."
"Oh my god," Billy says in disbelief. "And you're just telling me that?! You don't tell people things, you're Batman!"
"I haven't always been the father I should have been," Batman says, and then he pulls down his cowl. Billy chokes, and then chokes again because apparently Batman is Bruce freaking Wayne and his brain just . . . just needs a moment to process that fact, like there is literally any way whatsoever that he could ever actually process that fact. He would've been less surprised to see a Kardashian under that mask, he's pretty sure. At least they've got athletes in the family, technically! "So I'm not going to make things difficult for you with Robin. Clearly he needs more than I'm capable of providing, and I'm perfectly willing to be transparent and to co-parent with you as much as possible. I want Robin to be safe and content and grow up well, and frankly put, Batson, you've proven yourself to be a good man time and again and I trust you to do what's best by our son."
Okay, well, now Billy just feels like dirt.
"You do know what happened to Billy, don't you?" he asks just a little bit desperately, because there is literally no way that this conversation is a real and actual thing that's really and actually happening. "Like, just–everything that happened there? There's a reason he's not in school or the system or with a relative or anything like that."
"What happened to Billy wasn't your fault," Batman tells him, meeting his eyes all quiet and intent and sincere. "And I will do everything in my power to help you make it right."
"Oh no, you're actually like . . . just genuinely a really good person, aren't you," Billy says despairingly, staring at him all over again and really, really wishing he could swear right now.
Maybe he'll just go throw himself into the sun. Maybe that's what he'll just go and do.
The corner of Batman's mouth quirks up wryly. His eyes even crinkle a little, which Billy can see on account of his total lack of cowl right now, oh god.
Billy despairs.
"I mean it," Batman says gently. "It wasn't your fault, and it doesn't mean you can't be a good father now."
"I need to talk to Robin," Billy says, because he definitely, definitely needs to talk to Robin. Batman inclines his head in an accepting nod, because Batman is probably under the impression that Billy wants to go give Robin a good ol' traditional "I know I'm not your biodad but I'm here for you, champ!" kind of speech, and Billy just . . . really cannot explain the real situation to him right now. Or ever.
Can he just lie to Batman for the rest of their lives, maybe? He can just pretend to be his own dad for the Justice League and keep dodging whatever Bat-surveillance happens to be in Fawcett and parent his older-than-he-is soulmate, right? That's a thing that he can do?
That's probably not a thing that he can do.
Although he might be willing to try, at this point.

Batman x TCF AU
SO like
Cale and his kids transport there
they get settled
Headcannon:Cale is a Batman fan
(just makes some things easier on me)
the kids wander off
Bomb the joker
they then say their father is looking for them
but they the kids look like they have been rolling around in garbage for weeks.
The bomb was made in a hurry with some things they found around because they are genius
their clothes are torn because they fell from a height but you know Cats land on their feet and Raon was raised around cats (:
so the bats think they are abandoned and take them to the wayne house saying he can take care of you
do a quick change and welcome them in
(They have foster care? on speed dial)
Cale searches for them
finds Eden(DHB) who has just hatched from his egg and missed Cale and Raon and teleported to them
then 3 days later an angry and worried
Cale comes aknocking
after hearing about what his children did
because A. he knows Joker and that creep reminds him of WS and Cloph combined
B.They deliberately wandered off
C.The Waynes tryin to keep his kids!!!
So at this point the story could go either way
Bruce could either adopt Cale(he does have adult children plus grandchildren)
Or
Bruce and Cale could fall in love
Bruce is probably around 40s? in this world
which would work with Cale who is mentally almost in his 40s
and probably more reasonable is if this is after they defeat the hunters and slacker life time so Cale body is now physically in the 30s and BAM it fits
honestly this is what my brain thinks up during class......I missed so many notes ): XD

I really love the concept of Bruce got time traveled into the past. Because dear god won't it be so messy?
Don't get me wrong. I love the concept of Bruce hoarding children and doing speed-run on getting his childrens (and non-childrens) on track but the alternative? Bruce 100% believed he was the problem and did his best to avoid them at all cost.
He set up a safe house for the Graysons, dragging down the circus and the Court so no one got taken to be a Talon anymore. When he got baby Damian (let's not question how Bruce could get Damian if he went back far before Graysons incident), Bruce dropped him on Grayson's door, because the last time he knew, Dick took a very good care of Damian, he could do it again because Bruce believed Dick was so much better person than him. He put more attention to the civilian in need and took Will into a safe work environment so Jason won't need to lose his father from crime and his mother from illness. He kept a close eye on the Drakes to avoid any incidents happening to them so Tim could have his parents alive (they were good parents what can I say). Arthur Brown got arrested earlier and Bruce made sure he lost his right to be with Stephanie and her mom again. Bruce couldn't really stop Barbara from entering the vigilantes world, it was out of his control, but he could try to make her safe (and putting as much distance as possible). He snatched Cassandra and put her on Jim's care to grow up with Barbara (she ended up join the vigilante life too and Bruce tried so hard to avoid her). Many rouges were dealt with much earlier and many of their schemes fell into failure, including Joker, so Duke wouldn't need to lose his parents at all, and Bruce kept a close eye on the Thomas too. Bruce also seek a good foster place for the Rows sibling so they could stay on a safe environment before Harper applied for emancipation and took Cullen with her. Alfred was left on dark but he could tell his master was doing something with his messed up brain.
That, or I just love tormenting Bruce Wayne for no reason. Honest.

A couple things:
The first album he ever owned that he got to choose on his own was Master of Reality when Wayne handed him 5 bucks at the used record store after he picked him up from foster. And he’s pretty sure Children of the Grave changed his brain chemistry. Like something in him got hard re-wired and soldered in place. Like there’s no unfixing that fix.
The first song he ever learned to play on Wayne’s old beater acoustic was Here Comes The Sun, but if anyone asks he says it was Smoke on the Water, which was actually second but the truth is possibly humiliating, considering his curated reputation.
He cannot read music. Which is funny, considering he’s had a “band” since 7th grade. He just kind of picks at shit by ear. Which he’s pretty good at, thank you very much. It's why he likes shit with solos, he can pick out a riff better than he can pick out a chord progression.
Said band did not lock down members with any kind of permanence until 10th and no one had any kind of electrified instrument until 11th because Jeff and Phil and Gareth might be better off than he is - drug money notwithstanding - but tuns out parents aren’t keen to just drop that kind of money so one’s kid can fuck around in another kid’s garage every couple weekends for that kind of price tag
Metal shows are few and far between in Roane County, considering all the ways it is. But the couple no-name bands that have breezed through town at the dive-iest of bars the county has to offer well - he doesn’t want to say, changed his life but - but he’s never been so glad to have been elbowed in the face because everyone’s having a good fucking time and without the accompanying “faggot” attached to the act, which he’s had a repeat performance of just. Generally. In his life outside of the shittest bars in Indiana.
He’s not saying Zepplin II made him gay but Robert Plant’s face pasted onto that German soldier’s body made him feel some kind of way at a formative age and that’s maybe just something he’s going to take to the grave even if apparently the shittiest of shitheads just decided that was a true thing about him on their own.
Steve Harrington has been hot since, like, junior high. Which is horseshit. Because like, first of all. He sucks. Like, he’s a douche. But Barb Holland died and he ended up in the hospital because apparently those two things are related events and rumor has it he got kicked out of his house and he shaved his head about it and there are a shocking number of scars hidden under that disco hair and that, unfortunately, does not make him less hot or less of a douche.
Another thing: Dustin Henderson is fucking annoying. Like annoying in the unremarkable way all nerds are annoying that he’s a little dead to (like sometimes he catches himself mid-tirade and thinks ‘damn, I’d kick my ass too’) so he gets it but also. He’s fucking annoying. He’s fucking annoying about Steve Harrington in particular which like. Hilarious. Go figure.
And he’s got a lot of annoying ammunition in that particular annoying gun, because apparently Harrington’s been living in his basement. So the kicked out thing is probably true. A lot of what he’s got to say is anecdotal. Lives in the basement. Pays rent. Makes dinner for Henderson’s mom. Drives him to school. Owns a bat with nails in it? Which. Alright? That makes about as much sense as anything else going on. The weirdly dense law enforcement presence in the wake of the Holland murder (and those are feds, like, he knows cops, he grew up around a lot of cops - thanks Dad - these are not cops) and the ever evolving whatever-this-is of Steve Harrington which he is for sure paying a normal amount of attention to and not unloading his guts at Gareth and Jeff who for sure don’t want to kick his ass about it because are we all seeing this shit? It's been like 5 years of high school and this is a puzzle he is no closer to solving, as he is no closer to graduating. And it's not because he’s being a dipshit about Harrington’s gradual transformation no matter what Gareth keeps insisting. (he’s being a dipshit about graduating because he’s a dipshit - separate problem)
But like, something is for sure going on with Steve Harrington. And fuck him dead because he is desperate to pick it apart. It's got nothing to do with the horny goblin in his brain barking about the, shall we say, aesthetic realignment here (which maybe, like, is coming for the integrity of his own genre cred but like. Come on, man.) and it's got everything to do with someone like Steve Fucking Harrington willfully abdicating the throne to throw himself amongst the Maligned With Problems The World Will Make Your Fault. Like he had to have known the flavor of hell people like him and Hagan and every other one of those silver spoon fucks made of his life. And not just his, just like, anyone remotely adjacent in the social order.
There’s this kind of unspoken truth at shows. Like metal, hardcore, whatever, any genre within a genre that fills up bars like this, like he’s pretty sure the punks even have this rule, this remains true: the more normal the guy looks the more fucked in the head he is. That guy is dangerous. That guy is working through some shit you cannot even begin to conceive of and this is only outlet he’s got. Like that guy will straight murder you if you come at him wrong in a pit and everyone knows it. You do not fuck with that guy. You do not make eye contact with that guy. So Steve Harrington in his tightass Levi’s and bright white fresh out the 3-pack t-shirt hugging the back wall of the Hideout on a Thursday night sure is a red flag. But red’s always been his favorite color, so-
So he buries his shoulder blades in the wall right next to him and hits him with a of all the gin joints and Steve just squints at him like he’s got no fucking clue what he’s talking about. Figures. Harrington always seemed like a philistine. Steve just runs his hand over his shaved short head, and Eddie swears he can hear the rasp of Steve’s palm over the noise of the bar.
“You come here often?” And it's not not a come on and he’s a little prepared to get decked but it's also a genuine question.
“It’s work.” Steve says, not unkindly but not really looking at him either. Like he’s not really interested in the conversation or Eddie at all.
“It’s work?”
And that gets Steve looking and he does not look impressed. It's cute. Which probably says more about Eddie’s ability to turn disdain into some semblance of private affection but we’re not going to unpack that bag we’re just going to throw the whole suitcase out.
“Well, I can’t work the bar so I just pull people out of the pit. Work the door sometimes.” Steve says over the noise of the bar, by way of explanation.
“How about that?” he says with no small amount of genuine awe. “Mall work not cutting it for you, then?”
Steve just kind of one shoulder shrugs. Not cutting it in the sense that the mall like, fuckin’ burned down but. Y’know. Speaking in kind of a general hypothetical kind of way. Looking for a new career path kind of way. Less about the mall directly. Or at all.
“Yes and no. I got punched less by skinheads at the mall.” and that almost sounds like a joke, like Harrington isn’t totally hating this conversation. Delightful.
“And you’d willingly go into this line of work when Henderson says you can’t win a fight?” he says it like he means it, like he’s actually surprised. Because he is. Because getting laid out at a show is just some shit that happens sometimes. Assholes with something to prove, the wrong guy took an elbow at the wrong time, a drunk got in the pit and doesn’t know the difference between a good time and a fight, like, shit happens.
Steve’s scrunched up face of repulsion and offense is additionally cute.
“Yeah well, Henderson says a lot of shit about you too.”
He may have been operating on the assumption that Steve actually had no idea who he was. And was just some weird guy who, for some reason, had a lot of personal information about him that was in no way reciprocated. Just kind of figured he would have been beneath Harrington’s notice in a big picture kind of way.
Fuck you, Henderson, how dare you.
“Only glowing reviews, I’m sure.”
“More or less.”
Alright he’ll take back point two, then. You’re on thin ice, Henderson.
“Is that where the uh-” and he kind of gestures limply at the pit and then towards the thick, formerly stapled up scarring in Steve’s hairline. Like he’s come home from a show with a bloody nose or a black eye or two but nothing like that.
“No.”
It's the finality in his tone, when he says it that makes him suspect he’s fucked this up and the conversation is over.
And it is.
So he hangs around the bar for the set and then he leaves and its not really all that interesting.
But he thinks about that for a while, that something rattled Steve Harrington’s cage so hard he’s this now. Somewhere in the realm of quietly fucked up, and on the edges of good sensibility and good taste because its more comfortable out of a spotlight. Even if the dark on the edge of that pool of light is more than a little dangerous, but at least there’s a place to hide.
And then Chrissy Cunningham dies on his ceiling and he has to keep hiding.

The tides were rising. Jason Todd could feel them when he walked the streets, green acid sloshing at his ankles. It wasn’t really there, he knew. The green was a figment of his imagination, a physical manifestation of his perception of the fear around him. The poison waves had risen since Batman split his throat in two. The tides were rising, faster by the day. What if they swallowed Gotham? Jason couldn't let that happen. The tides were rising. Percy Jackson stood by the docks; he'd watched nine bodies drop into the dark waters. Each one made the steadily rising water go up just a little more. He wasn't supposed to be in this city. It didn't matter that he'd indirectly killed Gabe, but there was no regret in his thoughts on the matter. Gabe had beaten his mother to death. The tides were rising, faster by the hour. Was there someone sitting by the water? Percy couldn't let them drown.

Ok, because my brain cannot put away the Nolanverse rn, here's why
John Blake (Fake Robin) should have been Dick Grayson
I think the only reason they didn't was because they wanted that twist at the end, but that's stupid, as I'll explain in a moment. So let’s go!
Backstory
Let's start with what Blake says about his backstory:
See, my mom died when I was small. Car accident, I don’t really remember it. But a couple of years later my dad was shot over a gambling debt. I remember that just fine. Not a lot of people who what it feels like, do they? To be angry. In your bones. People understand, foster parents understand. For a while. Then they expect the angry kid to do what he knows he can never do. To move on. To forget. So they stopped understanding and sent the angry kid to a boys’ home- St. Swithin’s. Used to be funded by the Wayne Foundation. See, I figured it out too late. You have to hide the anger. Practice smiling in the mirror. Like putting on a mask. You showed up one day in a cool car, pretty girl on your arm. We were so excited - Bruce Wayne, billionaire orphan. We made up stories about you. Legends. The other boys’ stories were just that. But when I saw you I knew who you really were... I’d seen that look on your face. Same one I taught myself.
Dead parents. Obviously Dick also remembers his mom dying, but frankly the details do not matter
Angry after parents' death. I feel like Dick's anger is either ignored or overexaggerated in fandom, but it's definitely there
Sent to a boys' home. And the only reason Dick got out of there was Bruce taking him in, which didn’t happen in the Nolanverse since Bruce didn't see him after his parent's death and/or he was isolating himself
Smiling as a mask. Dick does this so well fandom often gets confused
Parallels with Bruce. It's the foundation for their relationships with Bruce.
Also, both became cops as a way to help people, and eventually quit because they weren't able to do what they needed to do as a cop.
Blake is obviously based on Dick, down to them having the same middle name
Audience Investment
Let's be honest, how many of you were truly invested in John Blake your first watch of DKR? Initially, there doesn't seem to be a point to his character. He helps pull the plot along, but it's unclear where his character is going
This would be fixed if he were Dick Grayson. Being a pre-established character adds an automatic piece of investment. It also means the audience has some idea of where his character is going. Except they don’t, leading us to:
The Twist
Everyone knows Dick Grayson is Robin. If they were introduced to him in DKR, they would assume his arc would be becoming Robin
This makes him becoming Batman a much better twist. The audience knew something was coming, but the specifics suprise them. It's also a much more solid twist than "guy's first name is Robin"
The Next Batman
Another thing that would make the twist amazing for comic fans, is that Dick Grayson just was Batman
DKR came out in 2012. I don’t know when Dick stopped being Batman exactly (though definitely 2011 with the New52), but he started in 2009, which is practically yesterday in comic time
Dick Grayson becoming Batman in the Nolanverse isn't just a twist, it's "oh, of course", something you get a little of with John Blake, but amplified because the audience is paying closer attention to Dick
How It Should Have Gone
We're introduced to our rookie cop the same way, except now when Gordon asks for him name, it's met by excitement from the audience because that's Robin!
He does literally everything the same as John Blake (just change the lines in his backstory about his parents)
He becomes Batman. Audience freaks out again
Literally nothing changes but increased audience reaction
#I will never understand why they didn't do this#nolanverse#dark knight rises#dick grayson#john blake#batman#dc comics

How do you think the Batkids react/relate to the song "The Milk Carton" by Madilyn Mei?
Especially the lyrics "I really thought that life was one big race, But now I know it's one big chase"
Hi! Imma be honest that some of the symbolism goes right over my head. However, assign lyrics to each batkid based on what I think they should have (and yes, some of them can have multiple or each others' ones as well)
For Jason, imma give him these lyrics:
I think I really miss my bed. Oh when, oh when will the nightmare end? I had it good, I had it good. And yet I left and can't retrace my steps
Something something about him missing his bedroom at Wayne Manor, the one he left and never came back home to. Even if he did return to it, he can't retrace his steps. He's different. His feet wouldn't fit the mould his fifteen year old self left.
For Dick, imma give him these ones:
Say, is that the kid from the milk cartoon? Can I do anything when I'm also missing? Something tells me kid never learned to swim, but can I do anything when I'm also drowning?
This would be about Dick leaving to become Nightwing and the kids that become Robin afterwards.
For Duke, let's give him:
Think I forgot a couple things. My brain is still at home. Home's far away. I really thought that life was one big race, but now I know it's one big chase
I feel like this fits his story of trying to find his parents, bouncing between foster homes, and then the path from We Are Robins to Signal
For Damian, he shall have:
You can still win, just gotta be faster You can, you can, you can, you can win You can still win, just gotta be faster You can, you can, you can, you can win
Something something about him trying to live up the standards and ideals the adults around him have placed on his shoulders. The effort he undergoes to be what they want him to be.
For Cass, she should have:
Oh, the air is thick. Kinda makes me sick. Can I give CPR when I'm suffocating?
This reminds me of how she always strives to help and save people to a point where it's almost detrimental to herself.
For Steph, let's give her:
Cotton tail, gonna end up in jail. Wrong place, wrong time. Bad tune but it rhymed. And lined up perfectly to blame the one who is far too tame
I feel like the characterizes how the batfam treated her in the beginning (mainly Tim and Bruce). Her time as Robin too.
For Tim, he shall have:
And the birds don't talk likе the ones on screen. Have they really domesticated me?
This is kind of a commentary on how his heroes wouldn't quite match up to how he thought they were once he met them. Despite this, he becomes ones of them.
Finally, we'll give Barbara:
Run for the yard. They've barred up the gutter. That was our route. Better find another. Was that a rabbit? Really not like the one I'vе seen on a cereal box
Idk... This just seems like maybe something Oracle would say? Not deep or anything

runt // jonathan crane x reader. (27)
Chapter 27
cross-posted on AO3
masterlist.
Y/N recalled ever since she last saw Bruce Wayne that her character had suffered a major change, turning her into a lethargic slob. Usually, she tended to be proactive and although an avid sleeper and naturally slow paced, she was always high with initiative. Lately, especially since Crane's latest visits had signified growing disappointment and himself displaying early signs of growing distant, she was not ignorant to the fact that Crane wasn't unconsciously drifting away, but rather making a deliberate choice to keep distance, in an attempt of avoiding further attachment. It was completely contradictory, for a man incompatible with love to ever fall victim to it. Besides, he obviously prided himself of being too knowledgeable in the field of psychology to ever fall for those tricks of the brain regular people do. Obviously he also deliberately ignored the fact that he was just as much of a prisoner to other silly desires of the brain rather than his own, such as the growing, throbbing and palpitating desire to possess her that had installed on his brain like a hot tumour.
Crane's hypocrisy reminded her of how he had completely forgotten about her papers, and even though she had become significantly more indolent, she still felt incredibly keen to the world of sociology. It was unfortunate that although she was undeniably haughty and capable of facing bigger threats, such as Crane himself, she was still irredeemably shy, enough to be unable to ask him about her long forgotten projects of which writings he kept in his apartment. In her mind, he'd probably dismissed them as subpar, and as a consequence discarded even wasting his time in affording her his precious feedback, but it couldn't hurt to return what was hers.
With his growing distance and her lack of contact with Bruce Wayne, it was as he drove her in silence to Arkham once again that she could feel what could only be described as a preying Armageddon* slowly approaching, pressuring her to straighten her affairs and making sure anything she had in abeyance in the living realm were addressed immediately. This had her thinking of Crane again, and about how her own small Doomsday clock continued to ask if she was ready to finish what she had started with the Batman.
She was unsure of whether she loved Jonathan Crane or not, which prompted her to assess the circumstances of her infatuation, and the symptoms of withdrawal that slowly begun to reveal. Frankly, any relationship the two had fostered until then could be hardly described as love, even if it disguised itself as such, no man like Crane could love a woman like her, and a mind so determined to fulfil a single purpose like hers could not afford to waste time in even trying to convince Crane that he is a man capable of experiencing love. She finally decided Crane was not a part of such important affairs, and discarded the absurd idea of blurting out how much she loved him in that very moment.
Besides, it was unfair to assume she had enough experience to even reach such a complex conclusion. Eventually she gave up on it, even if she could see how his hand hesitated on whether to rest on her thigh like a married man expresses his affection to his wife of many years or remain on the gearshift. She knew his hesitance was also paired with a repression of impulses, and she could picture the battle in his mind which eventually resolved the ongoing dichotomy by simply not touching her. This only further aided her in indulging in the idea that she had dodged a bullet by keeping her irrational impulses to herself, after all what is a woman who can't keep her thoughts caged if not a mere animal?
"Everything's looking great, we should be able to let it fly in say... two to three weeks?" Even though he asked a question, it was clear he was talking to himself. She hated when men did that, as if completely dismissing the presence of her company right beside him, as well as her ability to provide a perfect answer that was possibly even better than whatever his rhetorical question had offered. Not that she wanted to answer anything though, she couldn't care less about his toxin project and whatnot. Not because it wasn't interesting or an undeniable fuel to an immensely captivating source of study, being needless to add that it was connected to the Batman. But rather than since it was his project, not an ounce of it could belong to her even if she wanted to, naturally culminating in strong aversion.
"How can you be so sure the Batman will come?"
"Please, he wouldn't miss this."
"And if he does?"
"He won't."
"What about me? If he does." And then, he cracked.
"There will be plenty of other opportunities to catch him if he does if this is successful." Caught.
"So you're admitting you're unsure."
"Are you seriously going to pick a fight over this, out of all the things?"
"I fail to see how this is not the most relevant of all the things."
"There is no such thing as an infallible bait for someone as unpredictable as the Batman, this is as good as it gets." He was right, horribly right. It ached her to know that even if her intuition battered on her chest to warn her of an approaching disgrace, she still could not be sure if he was going to be there. The Batman seemed to have a knack for being inconvenient, and the last thing she wanted was for him to not appear when his presence is far more indispensable than it was in a dock where drugs had passed in and out thousands of times, with the only difference being the presence of her brother at that unfortunate time and place.
"Will you take me to dinner after this?"
"Sure, why not." His monotone irritated her immensely, and it was as they sat face to face that she refused to eat her food for as long as she could, waiting for him to notice. It was as the steam that elevated above her dish began to dissipate that he perceived that she had not even stirred the soup before her, but the only observation that came from him was merely a slight gesture with his eyes that went back and forth between her face and the food. A crack on the head is what you get for not asking, and a crack on the head is what you get for asking.
They barely spoke, and the tension between them was bigger than what she could take. In retrospect, she was far more normal than he was, and her tolerance to such friction was significantly less than that of a man who coexisted with the sound of silence ever since he was a child. Quiet dining table as the only sound that bounced between them was the silverware clattering against the porcelain dishes, and the unpleasant wet sound of their mouths opening and closing as their tongues wrapped around the spoons. To her, such sounds were merely human, but he always found himself profoundly appalled by them, as if they were one of the many sounds humans tend to reject for their intimate nature. Not that he hadn't noticed her discomfort, clearly wanting him to notice by not touching her plate, he finally decided it was no worth to torture her with silence any longer.
"You and Mr. Wayne haven't gone out in a while, have you?"
"I haven't called him, no." She began to stir her soup.
"And I see he hasn't called you either."
"He's a busy man I'm sure."
"There's no need to defend him, I'm not attacking him."
"Fine." She let go of her spoon, indicating an end to the conversation.
"Have you thought of anything you'd like to wear for the downfall of Gotham?" In any other circumstance, she might have been more appreciative of his humour than at that very moment, where she found herself painfully unamused by his dark and tone-deaf irony. However she found her curiosity picked more by the strange nature of the question. Who asks that? The last thing on her mind with such impending anxiety by his power-hungry project.
"I have no idea."
"Good, wear some rags. You musn't attract too much attention from the Batman." Her frown displayed her indifference at his distasteful remark, meticulously planning out even the slightest details further stripping her from any opportunity at even choosing what she'd wear for the Armageddon. Still, it was as soon as she arrived that she began to look through her closet for what she would wear, as if it were Fashion Week, the theme being annihilation of public sanity.
*Armageddon: biblical prophesied cataclysmic location where a war between good and evil will be disputed.
its as i work on this fic (the closest to completion ive ever written) that i wonder why can't i ever write a MC that doesn't develop some sort of hatred for the male protagonist at some point, i know i'm a little too keen on possession, the bell jar and the trope of loving someone so much the line that divides it from hate blurs but does it have to be so transparent??? i wish i could write a jane austen but i end up just pulling an ottessa moshfegh, besides its cill's scarecrow for gods sake!! who could ever hate him?? its kinda funny how obvious it is no writers knew jasons age. theres a different 19 year old character in this story, and hes constantly called "child"/"boy" and just generally kinda treated like hes younger, but jason never is, despite... also being 19...
jasons timeline is pretty easy though...
age 0 to ~10 -> living in gotham with dad and stepmother. the last few months before he meets batman, his father is arrested for working with two face and dies in prison, his step mother dies of a drug overdose, and hes homeless. he steals things for money to get by and squats in an abandoned apartment building.
after being caught stealing a tire off the batmobile, batman sees how hes living and takes him to a foster home for boys to live there instead. it turns out the woman running the home is a criminal herself, who physically abuses the boys (including jason :( ) and gets them to commit crimes for her. jason tells batman, and for his bravery, batman asks him if he wants to be robin.
from ages ~10 to 15 -> jason is robin and is legally adopted by bruce wayne. yay ^_^
he discovers the woman who raised him wasnt his biological mother, and decides to try and track her down. bruce helps! they find her, but they dont know shes being blackmailed by the joker. everyone knows what happens next :(
age 16 -> multiverse shenanigans means hes resurrected but has severe brain damage from the joker. he was found and hospitalized, but he escaped and lived on the streets of gotham (again ;_;). in his low functioning state, he attacks someone, and gets recognized by his fighting style as robin. talia al ghul finds out and takes him to the base of the league of assassins. she gets attached to him and is convinced he can be helped. she puts him in the lazarus pit, which cures him.
age 17 -> talia gets various criminals to teach jason to fight, build bombs, learn poisons, use various weapons, etc. he ends up killing all of his "teachers" when he learns of their criminal acts (murder, child trafficking, terrorism). this was talias plan, to get him to become a killer. she also sleeps with him at this point. :l
he returns to gotham, and finds out batman has a new robin, and joker is still alive. he plans to kill the joker and batman, but he cant get himself to do it. talia tells him about a new criminal in gotham called hush. he meets with him and they work together. after the events of hush, he creates a new identity for himself (the red hood, jokers original identity before he fell in acid) and creates a plan.
age 18 -> the events of under the red hood! its a lot.
only one year passes between utrh and coundown. so... age 19 -> the events of countdown, where he works with kyle rayner (green lantern) and donna troy (troia) to save the universe.
then the universe gets reset and new52 happens, where the timeline of everything gets fucked up and the writing is awful and everything sucks. then rebirth happens which also kinda sucks, but less... i guess. then infinite frontier, which seems to follow this timeline mostly...????
