#Boss+Personal Assistant

Boss+Personal Assistant: a 16+ nichelink relationship where one person in the nichelink takes a “boss” role and the other/s take an “personal assistant” role.

this is a subset of Boss+Employee. i chose to make this 16+ because of the focus/dedication described whereas i feel like Boss+Employee is easier to interpret as just for fun. wikipedia describes a personal assistant this way:

An assistant helps with time and daily management, of meetings, correspondence, and note-taking. The role of a personal assistant can be varied, such as answering phone calls, taking notes, scheduling meetings, emailing, texts, etc. In business or personal contexts, assistants are people who provide services that relieve his or her employer from the stress of tasks that are associated with managing one's personal and/or business life.

this nichelink may include, but is not limited to:

deep trust/understanding, possibly enough that the assistant is trusted to manage funds, take notes, write emails, make appointments, make phone calls, or other tasks for the boss

the assistant otherwise helping the boss with their work or personal projects

tertiary attraction like tutelary attraction

the boss trading benefits/rewards to the assistant in exchange for work, instead of funds, if it's not feasible for them to pay at the moment

the assistant being a recovering r*dqueer and the boss wanting to help them express their feelings of wanting to be "subservient" to someone in a healthier and risk-aware fashion

Patient: This is very frustrating. What would you do if you were in my shoes?

Me: I would ring the pathology department and ask them why they've billed me because I am not familiar with Medicare billing practices for pathology specifically and need them to explain it to me

Patient: So you can't tell me ANYTHING?

I was wondering why Holly Munro would stick it out working for a bunch of ridiculous teenagers but it occurred to me, her creep of a boss probably blacklisted her in the industry, didn't he? I wonder if that contributed to her rapid hiring process.

Personal Assistant Wanted

Striker sat perched on the edge of his desk, one leg dangling lazily as he checked a small, weathered leather notebook.

The thing had seen its fair share of use: edges scuffed, the spine cracked from being shoved into his coat pocket one too many times. His claw traced over the scribbled notes and rough sketches inside: names, locations, times, escape routes, meticulously detailed, though written in his sharp, uneven scrawl.

He paused on one page, narrowing his golden eyes as he muttered to himself:

“Looks like I’ll need to take the western pass…fewer patrols there this week. Figures those bastards’d get lazy.”

A faint smirk tugged at his lips as he jotted down a note in the margins with a charcoal pencil, his movements quick and practiced.

The notebook was his lifeline: a culmination of years of jobs, secrets, and shortcuts across Hell’s rings.

A map here, a mark’s routine there; even crude sketches of landmarks or symbols only he could decipher.

He let out a low sigh as he flipped to the back, where a growing list of names stared up at him, some crossed out with aggressive slashes, others still untouched.

“Damn shame it takes so much damn plannin’ to kill someone these days...”

He groaned, his tail flicking behind him in irritation. He glanced toward the pile of maps and folders stacked haphazardly to his side, then back down to the notebook in his hand.

“All this just to make sure a job don’t go sideways. And I ain’t even gettin’ paid yet.”

Letting the notebook close with a quiet snap, Striker rolled his shoulders, stretching the tension out of his back.

The leather felt warm and familiar in his grip: his personal bible of blood and strategy.

“Maybe I should hire someone to keep this crap straight...a personal assistant or somethin'...”

He muttered, half to himself, half to the silent room.

“Doubt they’d get far though, considerin’ what’s in here.”

With one last glance at the scratched-up cover, Striker slipped the notebook back into his coat pocket and pushed himself off the desk. Whatever notes he’d written, whatever plans he’d pieced together, were more than enough for now.

Ray's After Ending is so funny because for a good chunk of it, most of the RFA members are knocked out by V's sleeping gas (Saeran is immune, Saeyoung isn't present bc he was kidnapped by his agency under his father's orders and MC wakes up in like an hour) but the game has a call feature where you can call the characters and it would be a waste if you couldn't use it bc the characters were unavailable so instead they have other people pick up the call (Jumin's driver picks up Jumin's phone, Jumin's father picks up Zen's phone, Yoosung's friends and mom pick up Yoosung's phone and Jaehee's coworkers pick up Jaehee's phone) and we do get to learn about the characters from outsider's point of view but it's so funny to me that these people are visiting their loved ones and suddenly the phone rings and they decide to just. answer it. and start talking to this stranger they've never met

In other news, hit my first bit of (benevolent) sexism at the job this week.

I was telling an older scientist--one of the managers, but not one of my managers--that I didn’t like the limitations of some of the software that came with a certain device. So I’d assigned myself the project of writing my own Labview software for it--meaning if he wanted to take my lasers for the afternoon, I had another little project I could spend my time on instead, nbd. Cue discussion, which I’ve now had a couple times in the past few weeks I guess, of yes the company does seem to have a (very old, but sort-of working) Labview license, and yes I’m fairly experienced at programming in Labview, and am happy to take on little quality-of-life projects to automate lab equipment like this in my spare time. Stuff the real programmers at the company would never have time for, but that makes people’s lives a little easier as they work.

Anyway, he was very impressed that I was confident in Labview--a lot of people can use it a little bit, but few people are comfortable in it. He thought maybe the license was originally purchased several years ago when he wanted one of his assistants to learn it and then teach him; said assistant apparently only ever sort of managed to get anywhere with it, and never to the point where he could teach it. I said yeah, at my old job I managed to get about 80% of the way through automating our prototype using a mix of Labview and Python. He said [the other woman scientist at the company, who is one of the lower managers] is good at Python and is teaching it to him, and he’s very excited that now there’s someone who’s good at Labview, too, and maybe I could teach him? And, “this is why they say women are smarter than men!”

So, uh, yeah. Benevolent, and like I said, he’s a manager but he’s not my manager. You do get this from older guys sometimes, and it’s... really about the best you can expect, sometimes. But... when someone is willing to say this kind of thing, make this kind of distinction among the people they work with, who knows what they’re actually thinking, especially subconsciously, when they make decisions about assignments, recommendations, etc.
