I love six of crows (it's been my favorite book since I was 14 (I'm 18) so I have A LOT OF THOUGHTS. my favroite characters (even though it is impossible to have a favorite) - Inej (brown girl RIGHTS) and Nina - they both own my whole heart. I truly do think I would not be the person I am without them. Nina's confidence gave way to mine and Inej being so proud of her culture - god without her I would not be me. I also have such a soft spot for Matthais (rip).

You would think with both Nina and Matthias being some of my favorite, I would LOVE helvar but no. (I LOVE THEM DONT GET ME but my favorite ship is the iconic investments and investors themselves (kaz and inej if that wasn't clear) - I love kanej so much I literally wrote a college paper about their love and how they interconnected their identities to be beyond both words and actions (ie: Kaz being able to hear Inej whilst no one can).- (I will say Zoya and Nikolai are probably my favorite grishaverse ship in general but kanej is STRONG second).

abt mc cullough’s brutus [gunshot]

this was copypasted from my notes i wrote this at like 11 pm yesterday night...i tried to make it better and i failed. also this is long as hell and worhtless. PLEASE pardon me spelling/grammar mistakes...there will be a lot i think. this is my good honest opinion and idk if ive interpreted this bookn correcyly... ALSO one more hting i have beeen educating myselg on autism bc i might. be on ze spectrum but if i got anyrhting wrong let me knwo. *dies

let’s start saying that she (mc cullough) is pro-caesar as HELL. she wants him so bad istg. this is important. it is important because if someone is not impartial (as, somehow, hbo rome is), they will ridicule, exaggerate, or diminish the “villain” of the story. in this case, poor wet fish (actual quote) brutus.

although he’s more present in “the october horse” he appears also as a teen in the previous books. in the books in which he appears we see him grow up: from a pimply fifteen years old to a pimply forty-three years old (hinting that he does not seem to grow up).

he is introduced from the start as someone constantly under his mother’s (servilia) heel (and she is described as basically a blood-thirsty psychopath with an excellent iq and she is also sexy tho so good for her), and is not a proper man – nor as a teen, nor when he is grown up.

physically (and temperamentally) dry and thin, swaybacked and round-shouldered, and large brown eyes that never meet the eyes of who talks to him.

you see where i’m going.

he’s constantly emotionally manipulated by his mother, friends and caesar himself, and the few times he acts on his own he either fails, is ridiculed by others, is portrayed in a negative light or it simply backfires on him.

he is stubborn, nevertheless, and at times even manages to grow a backbone (actual quote), and talk back to those who mistreat him (the two memorable times it happened where with his mother – she burned down his fucking study; and with cassius who called him a gutless cocksucker [actual quote]).

he doesn’t show any emotion other than constant anxiety and indecision, and melancholy. there are times, of course, when he is visibly happy (with porcia, for example <3), or visibly angry, but they’re rare.

he’s very defensive when it comes to money (ah yes, greed – but maybe its because it’s the only thing he has finally managed to do on his own), or when it comes to the decisions he takes.

he lacks common sense at times, and also military common sense, but that’s just because he has never seen a battle other than pharsalus. sometimes however he has random surprisingly good ideas for tactics and all that.

his actual behavior also supports my thesis (feeling sooo smart rn. “thesis”. hehe. professional):

he, and i quote, (brutus) clapped his hands over his ears (and left the room in a hurry) when cassius and porcia were basically shouting at him trying to get him to join the conspiracy; he has an awful posture (look up autism stance and see the good old swayback); he (sighed), rocking back and forth – fell to his knees and began to rock, hands covering his face; he is very careful, not to lose the pins was a facet of brutus’ careful nature; he – AND I QUOTE. don’t cancel me. – fell on the floor and began to weep like one demented (the adjective. is. important in my thesis.); he cant smile properly apparently – a tight grimace that seemed the closest he could get to a smile; he, as i’ve said before, has a hard time showing emotions (for example he doesn’t cry when he finds out porcia – the love of his life – has died); he’s upset with changes (especially location changes if what i mean is clear); he avoids handling stressful situations and just hides in his room for days (for example at philippi).

now.

there is nothing wrong, of course, with wanting to sprinkle a touch of the ‘tism on characters, whether they’re fully fictional or fictionalized versions of real people.

but.

all these traits are (evidently) portrayed in a negative light, they are ridiculed, to the point of making brutus basically. you know. evil autism. or something.

she could’ve easily done the same thing without the ridicule, or make him ridiculous without the ‘tism allegations.

all that he faces – emotional abuse from his mother (which makes him more and more somehow dependent on her); struggle with self-esteem and difficulty with creating relationships; his strong attachment to porcia (and she is portrayed as quite the “manly woman”. NOT THAT THERE’S ANYTHING WRONG WITH MANLY WOMEN BUT. she is described. in quite a certain way.) and his even stronger attachment to cassius (who constantly mistreats him btw.) – everything is watered down, diminished by the ridicule his behavior puts him in.

i feel him so much bruh. SORFY leys not get off track.

he’s also ridiculed by the few relationships he has: his mother torments him; caesar basically considers him an idiot (although he cares for him a bit. but. whatever); cassius is basically too cool to hang around with brutus (but he also has his flaws. like after he kills caesar he starts bawling his eyes out with brutus for some reason. also cassius and servilia are best friends somehow and she prefers him over her son. what a lovely trope! i will kill msyself); porcia is basically the man in the relationship (DON’T GET ME WRONG.): he’s thin and passive (also sexually? hehe who knows), she’s shredded and energetic so stereotypically the roles are reversed. and she’s also – and i quote – a galumphing elephant which isn’t. the best of adjectives. AND she’s insane. like literally hysterical. just like servilia.

anyways evil autism for the win. (i dont know hwo to write esaays)

Sobbing because I will never get over graduating high school with my past. With this blog. I wrote my college essay that got me accepted into every college I tried to get in to about bookns. Now I'm days away from starting college which is just so...so surreal.

My cap carried bookns and everything that makes bookns bookns come to life. The book that I had destroyed was the babysitter club book 100, Kirsty's worst idea. Maybe it was my worst idea but I had destroyed the book and glued it on. I don't regret it. That book series is the reason I am a reader, and more importantly a writer of this blog. It has a hidden ladybug for my miraculous days..the very beginning of this blog. There are flowers all around it because some day a boy would like to know my favorite flowers, Inej. The inside of the cap is blue for the best fucking blue food in the world, Percy. Lastly, she'd be so proud of me I would like to think. A Taylor quote for the shit that was high school.

because long story short, I survived.
