Hyrule(an Magic) Historia: An Effort for Archival
Greetings. It's my first time posting on this blog, so it's nice to meet you all.
The purpose of this post is to detail my behind-the-scenes effort to archive as many of the lost Hyrulean Paganism/Magic blogs and posts as possible. For those unaware, in the mid-2010s, there was a "renaissance" of The Legend of Zelda Pop Culture Pagan posts and blogs. The pantheon/practice went by many names, such as Mudoran Magic, Hyrulean/Hylian Magic, Hyrulean Paganism, etc. As a result, efforts to find remaining content can be complicated, especially when perusing tags. Different phrases were used for various blogs and posts, sometimes leading to dead ends.
Thankfully, there are some leads. @lostwoodstarryskies made a list of blogs, both old and new, here. This is a good start and helps navigate search engines such as Google more efficiently. Additionally, this post by the now-defunct @/hylianshrinemaiden (more on her later) lists additional blogs.
Now, to Twili (hylianshrinemaiden). While we (the Magic Collective) weren't in the same Pop Culture Pagan circles at the same time, it's clear she was a pillar in the community. It's a shame that she and other active members deleted their blogs, as Tumblr's archival system is half-functional at best. There is some hope of recovering her blog, however. @hyrulian-legends reblogged this post from her, listing various spells and resources from her. While it's not entirely clear if this list is her complete work, it at least gives names to her work. Through this list, I've had some luck on Google, and a surviving reblog of her Minish Cap Glamour was found here. I'm not sure what else is available, as I became un-frontstuck when I was planning on searching further. (Such is the way of systems.)
I plan on delving further into what remains, and I'm very grateful to the remaining community members for their advice on where to look. Many thanks, in particular, to @knightofhylia, @knightofhylia-sageofthetriforce, @wind-sage-serin, and @lostwoodstarryskies. Additionally, those in the Community of Hyrulean Faiths Discord server provide resources.
There remain some posts in the Collective's communal Likes that we plan on sharing upon adding to our Grimoire document, so expect those somewhere down the line. In the meantime, I'll continue my search and bring updates whenever possible.
Sincerely,
Vaati the Wind Mage 🌪️

I found the dungeon from ALTTP in EoW!!!!!!
In ALTTP there is a dungeon in the desert that I recall you need to Book of Mudora to open, and there's this little platform where you do so in front of the dungeon, with a very particular turn of rock nearby that I always used to avoid the geldmen.
Anyways, I was wandering the desert in EoW, and I found the same turn of rock, and just as I was beginning to smile about that, thinking "i know this! this is familiar! like home in a weird way!!!" THE FREAKING PLATFORM appeared too, and then? The three heads that signal the door to the dungeon in ALTTP! The middle of which, as everyone knows, being the entrance to a dungeon!!!
So, EoW Downfall Timeline confirmation I guess?

Ganon is a librarian who gets in a fight with Link over access to a restricted book
When Link approached the special collections desk to retrieve his request, a man he’d never seen was waiting for him. He was wearing a sharp suit that belonged in a boardroom, not a library.
“This will be the third time you’ve requested the Book of Mudora in the past week,” the man remarked in an acerbic voice.
Link was undaunted. “Well, mister…”
“Dragmire. Doctor Dragmire, if you please.”
“Well, Dr. Dragmire, I wouldn’t need to request it so often if I were allowed to take photos.”
“Absolutely not,” the man countered. “The library does not allow the reproduction of this text. No exceptions.”
Link got the distinct impression that, when this man said “the library,” he was referring to himself. He’d dealt with difficult librarians in the past, but never with someone who confronted him with a solid wall of denial.
“I would understand the library’s reasoning if there were light damage from the flash,” Link insisted, “but this is a digital phone.”
“And?” The single syllable dripped with disdain. The man’s tone didn’t brook argument, but Link pressed on regardless.
“And, given that taking digital photos won’t affect the book’s ink or paper, wouldn’t there be more damage from me touching the pages?”
“Understand, Link, that I only allow you to handle this book because you’re visiting faculty and beyond my ability to restrict. If I could find a justifiable reason to have my staff deny your requests, I would do so.”
Link sensed he was on dangerous ground. He believed that he was the only scholar to have discovered the secret of the Book of Mudora, but something about the imposing man on the other side of the desk gave him the feeling that it would be best not to make assumptions. Perhaps he’d found what he’d been searching for since his graduate days – a colleague.
“It’s true that this book has some interesting properties,” Link offered. “I’ve researched the matter extensively, in fact. I’d love to discuss it with you. Perhaps over coffee?”
The librarian gazed down at him appraisingly – and, if Link wasn’t mistaken, with a hint of respect.
“I doubt you have anything to teach me, but I’ll take you up on that offer,” he replied, the challenge in his voice undeniable. “I’d like to ascertain how much you really know.”

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE THIS IMAGE IS FROM
HELLO. IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THE ORIGINAL SOURCE FOR THIS GAME ART FOR A WHILE NOW. im convinced that this is for the 1986 Legend of Zelda, because the red book/magic book, is called a Bible in the Japanese version, and the game sprite has a cross on it. It could also be art from the NES release of A Link To The Past, where the Book of Mudora is green, but, Link does cross himself after reading it? Pretty certain this is from Zelda 1 though.
reverse image searching (in my searches so far anyway) only bring up the Pinterest link that I originally saved it from about a year ago, and clicking on it gives me an error message that redirects me on web or refreshes the app.
The style and texture of the scan remind me of a higher res version of the original game manual for The Legend of Zelda 1984 :
Buuut, the colors remind me more of the art from the Zelda 2: Adventure of Link Manual:
if anyone does video game history or conservation, or just happens to have a game Manual lying around, have any of you seen this image? Is it from a game magazine or just a really convincing fake game art joke?
even if I don’t ever find the source of the Bible picture, I kinda also want to share these cute official arts as well!
Edit: @beardedhandstoadshark told me it was from the 1986 strategy guide for Zelda 1!! thank you!!

New to Knightshade Chat and wanting to show a crossover comission
Hello everyone, so... I comissioned someone to make this for me. Mostly because this story I am making in Fanfiction.Net.
Its to show these costumes off and see what Jaune and Blake will be wearing later on in the story.
Its basically a crossover of Legend of Zelda and RWBY. I call the Story The Book Of Mudora, and while it is a multi pairing with Jaune, Blake, Yang, and Pyrrha. I thought this first picture fit this chat.
Just wanted to share you know.

Are you able to read ancient texts such as the Book of Mudora and the ancient Sky Book? Admittedly, I can somewhat read ancient Hylian, but I struggle a bit with the Gerudo alphabet. An example is that the characters for ! and ? look almost exactly the same, so I mess those up often. But at least I can kind of write my own name in Gerudo!
Yes, of course. what matters most to you is your ability to exploit Gerudo artwork for your own gain, not appreciate it for what it is.
As for the other languages. They hold little for me to grant them my attention.

Hiya! I saw you made a post back in February about trying to gather an archive together of Mudoran information and magic. Back in 2018, I left tumblr for a while, but I wanted to gather up some Mudoran posts I found useful onto a backup google document so I wouldn't lose it. It's extremely rudimentary––a bunch of stuff copy-and-pasted over into the doc with absolutely zero additional formatting, fan art is mixed in with some random recipes and now defunct masterposts of dead hyperlinks, etc etc––but I'd be happy to share a copy with you or anyone else trying to archive all this information. I'm not sure how much of it would be useful, but I figure it's at least worth glancing at in case it contains any of that lost information, right?
Gods, you have no idea how much we've been waiting for something like this! Please share it with us, whether in DMs or in a reblog! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there will be some breakthroughs!

The Zelda Timeline isn’t real it can’t hurt me
#veesaysthings#listening to the Book of Mudora podcast where they’re theorizing about the timeline#but it’s an episode that came out before totk and ALL of their theories on how to fix the timeline are disproven by totk’s bullshit lore#I cannot try to understand the timeline bc it is simply so flawed#nevertheless excited to see where they put the two most recent games when they inevitably release a MORE fucked up version#legend of Zelda

It wouldn't leave my head so here is a quick mock-up of what the handkerchief from these fics
I imagine the loftwing and sheikah corner are the 'front' that get pinned infront of her
Rant below v
So the ancient Shiekah, Zonai, 'Ancient Hylian' (Skyward Sword Hylian) and Gerudo are correct (I think it was hard to find a sheet for written Zonai),
The Fae is actually Ocarina of Time Hylian that I drew over to make it like loopy looking (I used the ancient Hylian and the Book of Mudora from lttp as like a reference but I don't think I used any actual characters from them)
Zora is something called Willow Script that I saw on tiktok, I believe it was made for use in dnd?
The Rito is Norse rune looking but I don't think it's actual Norse runes, mainly cause it translates directly to the English alphabet and also cause the image I used leads back to multiple fantasy wikis so I'm unsure where it originated from
And the Goron is from a language making website? I found the sheet on Google images I don't think it's from anywhere else
All the original ones I've added are for ~vibes~ only I'm not making them 'canon' for lack of a better word, they just fit the vague image in my head of those scripts
#linked universe#linked universe fanfic#loz#jellyfish's art#jellyfish's thoughts#i did this for so long i can kinda read standard hylian now

LINK, THE RABBIT Link to the Past, Oracle of Ages, Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons
[From my Link's Meet AU, That Broken Promise]
GENDER: Male (afab) PRONOUNS: He/Him HEIGHT: 5'1" AGE: 27 HEALTH: Mermaid transformation (involuntary with water)
WEAPONS: Noble Sword, Mirror Shield, Bow, Slingshot ITEMS: Enchanted bag, 101 Rings, Moon Pearl, Hookshot, etc. SPELLS: Ether, Quake, Bombos
Rabbit saved his Princess Zelda after she reached out for rescue from Aghanim, at the cost of being hunted for her loss in his own home. He travelled the Dark World to defeat Ganon once, then in later years was pulled from his home by the Oracles to save them and defeat him again in the lands of Holodrum and Labrynna, and to save the Wind Fish from a curse in the land of dreams. He remains close with Zelda and still travels for her sake now.
Rabbit is completely undaunted by much of what has happened to him in his life, although he remains nervous of hurting other humans. He can give as good as he gets in a fight and loves to find and explore new things and new people. While he may have noticeably vanished, his uncle and Zelda will not worry for several days.
Rabbit speaks several languages easily, is literate in multiple scripts including dead languages thanks to the Book of Mudora, and knows a little sign language. Glossed as BSL (or NZSL)
Rabbit is into anyone, everyone, and most anything... but after one mistake, he does avoid reproductive sex.

Consider: Languages
Awakener muttering curses in Great Sea Gaelic
Orpheus slipping back into Kokirish when he's excited, angry, or stressed
Additionally, Orpheus being fluent in Dekuspeak, Zoran, and Gorondi, but ONLY when wearing his masks
Dawnbringer using Ordonian Idioms in his Ordonian Accent :)
Odysseus being a polyglot with a natural talent for learning languages and, by the end of his adventures, being fluent in Mudoran, Koholish, Holodrumi, Subrosian, and Labrynnan AS WELL AS Old Labrynnan
Language and grammatical barriers between the heroes during Hyrule Warriors (because languages change over time, even if they're all speaking Hyrulian)
Fractal and Radiance speaking Picori to each other when they don't want people to overhear their conversations
The Colors all having mostly similar but just-different-enough-to-be-unsettling vocabularies, speech patterns, and inflections
Skylian incorporating tweets, whistles, and other bird noises into its pronunciation
Sunshine learning Zonai in the distant past and reviving it in the present after the end of TotK, writing down the alphabet, grammatical rules, and writing the first-ever Zonai-to-Hyrulian dictionary
Genesis and his Calatian dialect :) and Somnia awakening at the end of Zelda II and speaking an older version of Hyrulian that's just different enough to present a language barrier
VISIONARY AND ODYSSEUS INVENTING THE HYRULIAN EQUIVALENT OF BRAILLE
In A Link Between Worlds, Hyrulian and Lorulian having the same words and grammar but different pronunciations of said words (like tomato and tomahto)
THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS
Quick key for those who want it:
Hyrulian= common language
Zoran= Zora Language
Gorondi= Goron Language
Dekuspeak= Deku Scrub Language
Kokirish= Kokiri Language
Koholish= Koholint Island
Labrynnan= Labrynna
Old Labrynnan= Labrynna’s Distant Past
Holodrumi= Holodrum
Mudoran= what is in the book of Mudora in ALttP
Skylian= Proto-Hyrulian, spoken on Skyloft

Is there a difference between Hylians and humans? It seems like they're used interchangeably sometimes, but in TP they're not the same, right?
The lore is not 100% consistent here, but yes, there's a difference! Sort of! Short version: Hylians are human but humans are not necessarily Hylian. Similarly, Gerudo are human but humans aren't necessarily Gerudo. Long version below.
A Link to the Past was the first game to introduce Hylians, but back then they were called (or translated as, at least) "the people of Hylia". They were a tribe of people with unusual magical powers and their own special writing language which you can translate using the Book of Mudora. It's mentioned that their bloodline became thin over time, and that there aren't any people left who possess those old powers.
Later games add a connection between Hylians and the gods. Specifically, Ocarina of Time says that Hylians have long ears so that they can hear the voices of the gods, and Twilight Princess goes on to say that although Hylians are seen as being closest to the gods, there is another race that is even CLOSER to the gods, and that they created the Hylians (in game, that race is the uhh Oocca. But you could retrospectively read it as referring to the Zonai).
Skyward Sword, interestingly, only uses the word "human", not "Hylian". But the people living on Skyloft are "Hylia's people" - so you could probably call them Hylians. That, or the Hylians are SS!Zelda's descendants. Latter would maybe explain the "mysterious powers" they inherit?
And across most of the other games, you have humans with pointy ears and humans without them. Usually pointy ears = Hylian and round ears = not Hylian. Except I guess in BotW and TotK, where Gerudo have pointy ears but are not considered Hylian? But it seems like Hylians and other humans are all genetically compatible, so it's more like a trait than a different species.
Hope that makes sense!
