Hyrule(an Magic) Historia: An Effort for Archival
Greetings. It's my first time posting on this blog, so it's nice to meet you all.
The purpose of this post is to detail my behind-the-scenes effort to archive as many of the lost Hyrulean Paganism/Magic blogs and posts as possible. For those unaware, in the mid-2010s, there was a "renaissance" of The Legend of Zelda Pop Culture Pagan posts and blogs. The pantheon/practice went by many names, such as Mudoran Magic, Hyrulean/Hylian Magic, Hyrulean Paganism, etc. As a result, efforts to find remaining content can be complicated, especially when perusing tags. Different phrases were used for various blogs and posts, sometimes leading to dead ends.
Thankfully, there are some leads. @lostwoodstarryskies made a list of blogs, both old and new, here. This is a good start and helps navigate search engines such as Google more efficiently. Additionally, this post by the now-defunct @/hylianshrinemaiden (more on her later) lists additional blogs.
Now, to Twili (hylianshrinemaiden). While we (the Magic Collective) weren't in the same Pop Culture Pagan circles at the same time, it's clear she was a pillar in the community. It's a shame that she and other active members deleted their blogs, as Tumblr's archival system is half-functional at best. There is some hope of recovering her blog, however. @hyrulian-legends reblogged this post from her, listing various spells and resources from her. While it's not entirely clear if this list is her complete work, it at least gives names to her work. Through this list, I've had some luck on Google, and a surviving reblog of her Minish Cap Glamour was found here. I'm not sure what else is available, as I became un-frontstuck when I was planning on searching further. (Such is the way of systems.)
I plan on delving further into what remains, and I'm very grateful to the remaining community members for their advice on where to look. Many thanks, in particular, to @knightofhylia, @knightofhylia-sageofthetriforce, @wind-sage-serin, and @lostwoodstarryskies. Additionally, those in the Community of Hyrulean Faiths Discord server provide resources.
There remain some posts in the Collective's communal Likes that we plan on sharing upon adding to our Grimoire document, so expect those somewhere down the line. In the meantime, I'll continue my search and bring updates whenever possible.
Sincerely,
Vaati the Wind Mage 🌪️

For those of us in the US, the current election results are incredibly stressful. For those of us who are pagans, especially of the pop-culture variety, these results are likely disappointing, disgusting, and terrifying.
Many of us are neurodivergent, queer, or both. We are other. We are likely in danger. Grieve, be angry, whatever you need. Reach out for help if you need support. All of you are loved. Every single one. Once you have felt your feelings, try to turn back to hope and fighting like hell to keep yourselves safe and change this mess we’re in.
The goddesses are with you, loving you, holding you close. Trust them to heal your heart and grant you stability in these trying times.

Epithets of Hyrule
The Golden Goddesses
Epithets are “an adjective or phrase expressing a quality or attribute regarded as characteristic of the person or thing mentioned.”
(Thank you Oxford Languages for the definition!)
Epithets are used in multiple religions, including christianity, hellenic paganism, norse paganism, kemetic paganism, and even in celtic paganism. People have used Epithets to denote the specific aspect of a deity they want to invoke.
However, I have not seen many people discus the epithets that could appear in pop culture paganism, and in this case specifically, Hyrulean Paganism.
So here are my current ideas for epithets of the Goddesses.
(Note, epithets that are most closely related to a specific race/species is denoted by a color or symbol. Goron, Gerudo, Rito, Zora, Hylian, Sheikah)
Din
Lady of the Red Earth, Earthbreaker, Earthmaker, Foundation of the World, Lady of Power, The Gerudo Mother, The Desert Mother, Din of the Forge, Kingmaker, King Mother, The Sandstorm, Of the Wastes, Of the Burning Hearth, Torch in the Night, Sister of Courage, Sister of Wisdom, Brother, Fire of Gorondia, She who is cradled in Death’s Maw, The Desert Wind, of the Fury, Autumn Harvester
Din, for me, is associated with Fire and Earth, Gerudo and Goron, and thus some epithets are more species specific.
Din of the Forge is also common with smiths of all species.
Nayru
Lady of Wisdom, Lady of Justice, Mother of Law, The Arbiter, of the Sea, of the Rain, She Who Watches, of the Deep, of the Storm, of the Fury, of the Cascading Falls, of the Hidden Waters, Queen Maker, of the Burning Cold, Knowledge Keeper, All-Knowing, the Teacher, the Shield, of the Gentle Snow, Owl-eyed, Sister of Power, Sister of Courage, Winter Keeper
Nayru is associated with water, ice, justice and knowledge. She is most closely associated with the Zora, and Hylians, but some other races have epithets for her as well.
Farore
Lady of Courage, Lady of Life and Death, Sword Keeper, Hero Guide, Mother of Life, Mother of Monsters, Secret Keeper, Lightning Rider, of the Storm, of the Fury, the Whispering Wind, of the Roaring Wind, the Verdant, Dragon Chaser, the the Joyous One, the Dancing Wind, Spring Bringer, the Huntress, Protector of Children, Will O’ Wisp, of the Cutting Wind, of Lost Things, of the Lost*, Path Walker, of the Wind, Sister of Power, Sister of Wisdom
*while this is the only epithet the Goron use, it is not Goron Specific.
Farore is my matron. I tried to keep things equal, but I will naturally favor her. I do actually ise quite a few of these epithets when I write prayers or blessings, and occasionally I will feel the urge to write a blessing invoking one.
Hylia
Guardian of the Triforce, Light bearer, of True Aim, the Winged One, Queen-mother, Queen-makerMother of Hylians, Bane of Demise, the Great Vanquisher, She who Carries Summer, of the Burning Light, the Arbiter, She Who Watches Over Time, Hero Maker, the Song Writer, the Hearth Light, Torch Against the Night, Scourge of the Undead, She Who Favors Wisdom, the Sacred Dragon, the Gentle Healer, She Who Seals the Darkness
Hylia is the last one I created epithets for at this time. She is dear to Hylians, and thus has many Hylian epithets.
I will eventually write all of this in zonai, ancient hylian, and common hylian (or I will at least try) and thus ends this post!
Merry met, and blessedly go!

Ahhh this practice would pair really well with my Embodying the Triforce practice! Getting a more concrete feel on the specific energies is a great idea!
Raising Triforce Energy
So the Triforce is of course a strong magical energy, and it’s three parts feel a bit different when separated than they do when in harmony.
The Triforce of Power feels like being close to a crackling fire, warm and flickering, with a slight sting, like when you get too close to the flame.
The Triforce of Wisdom feels like water, cool and fluid, with a slight bite, like winter cold.
The Triforce of Courage feels like damp earth, soft and thick. With a crackle like electricity.
Just for reference these are how the energies feel to me, and below is my method for drawing the energy.
Sit comfortably in a dimly lit room. I don’t feel like the lighting matters over much but it helps me concentrate when it’s not bright.
Cup your hands or form a triangle shape with them. Focus on which part of the Triforce you’re trying to use.
Try and visualize the golden light of the Triforce pooling in your hands. Let the energy build a bit, enough to get a feel for it.
Try and get a feel for the energy of the piece you’re working with. Does it feel awkward? Does it flow freely to you? One usually vibes better than the others.
If the triforce piece you’re working with feels unwieldy it may indicate that’s the one you need more work in.
The piece that feels easy to work with is probably the one you would get if the Triforce split and will likely be the easiest to use for magic.
Practice drawing the different energies and learning how they feel before you start manipulating them and using it for spells and such.

Pop Culture Deities Explained
AKA Pop Culture Paganism
Definition - Using magick systems, following religions, and working with characters from books/movies/TV shows
Examples (from people I know)
Working with Crowley from Good Omens as a deity
Using DC superheroes as deities in rituals, they primarily used them when casting circles as they were also Wiccan
Offerings to Vegeta for gym gains (my brother)
Incorporating Legend of Zelda religious beliefs into their own
How Does this Work (from a non-shifter perspective)?
Many people who work with pop culture deities are not shifters, so I will go into how they believe it works (or how the people I have talked to believe it works).
People who practice pop culture paganism believe they are working with the egregore of these people and religions.
Egregores are a type of entity that forms when a group of people are giving their attention, emotions, and thoughts towards the same thing. This doesn't just happen with media, as egregores are formed when many people feel large emotions, and this can occur everywhere from church to a sports stadium.
However, in the case of pop culture paganism, these people work with the energies that have been formed through the attention of fans of the media, just like they would a deity (which some also believe to be long-standing egregores).
In the chance that the person wants to work with an OC or religion from an original work, they are capable of creating a servitor (less complex egregore usually created by one person) as well.
How Does this Work (shifter perspective)?
From the perspective of someone who believes in shifting and the multiverse, pop culture paganism could be explained as working with these deities from another reality where they actually are deities.
In my opinion, this is a tier of channeling as you are in contact with something from another reality but are not actively channeling that through yourself.
Do I work with pop culture deities?
Not really but kinda, by that I mean that I don't tend to interact with them as deities, but I do view the people in different realities as able to assist me if I needed them to. I also regularly channel people from different realities for advice or to use their strengths as my own, and from an outside perspective this would be pop culture paganism
Either way, I view it as a completely valid form of worship and magick system. People get great results and a lot of good emotions through it, and for people with religious trauma, it can be a good way for them to practice their own spirituality without existing biases.
If anything in this is wrong please let me know! I am going off of what people have told me and a basic knowledge of egregores/servitors and am always willing to learn if something here doesn't look right. Thanks for the people that showed interest about this and gave me the inspiration to write this post ❤️

Pop culture paganism was always something I thought I'd never touch, because... I don't know. I was highly interested in history and the modern revivalist efforts of ancient practices. I've been through a lot with my nebulous spiritual practice- it felt right it but it never felt right. My upbringing was only tangentially religious (Catholic), I didn't know for certain spirituality was meant to be in my life at all. Astrology and cartomancy can be used secularly anyway.
This year I settled on guiding myself with whatever felt meaningful rather than solely relying on research. And the spirits and symbols found in the Legend of Zelda series are as meaningful as anything else to me, especially from Skyward Sword. I'm still doing research of course but pop culture paganism is very new. It seems like it's mostly UPG. I'm trying not to put too much pressure on myself to do things right/wrong anymore and just carry the values of power, wisdom, courage and light within me.
I'm not a Shinto practitioner but I visit shrines to pay my respects when I'm out, since it's a formalized institutional religion I keep everything Shinto separate from my worship of Hylia and the Golden Goddesses. The Legend of Zelda is notably inspired by Shinto but obviously not belonging to the same system.
I'm not particularly interested in summoning and speaking to actual spirits, though. I leave offerings and pray which is enough for me at this time.
Any other Hyrulian PCPs are welcome to chat!

Plurality & Paganism: An Introspective
If any of you keep up with my main (@sinfulauthor), you may have noticed this post, along with my new pinned post. In short, I've come to the realization (after burying the thought of it for many years) that we are a Collective.
Now, how does this impact this blog and my craft?
To start off, this blog's content will remain the same. It will still primarily act as an e-grimoire with some additional posts, but the people posting what content will change. Specifically, these people:
-Alex (they/them), the host (hi!). I'll generally do most of the talking/posting. Works with The Signless/Sufferer and Dionysus. ANP that the IRL coven knows. (I'm not open with them about being a Collective just yet.)
-Vaati (he/him), who works with Demise and focuses on divination. Writes solely in cursive and gets VERY frustrated when grimoire notes are in standard print.
-Ghira (he/him), who works with Demise closer than Vaati for Obvious Reasons™️. (Though he generally doesn't do any actual spellwork, just offerings, worship, and altar setup.)
-Karkat (he/they) on occasion, solely because Signless HAS shown himself to him and is very much a Dad™️.
-Toko (she/her) has not yet "awakened." She was a former kin heavily associated with our craft. Taking bets on her being a spellcrafter/writer.
So, now that the roll call is done, onto some other stuff regarding plurality and paganism, the introspection the title mentions. (This will be below the cut as it's not as integral to the "functioning" of this blog.)
So, coming to the realization as a system was... interesting. We first became aware of dissociative disorders through Danganronpa (Yes, Toko's horrible representation. We know.) and related to Toko heavily. At the time, we were heavily involved in the Fictionkin community and had "memories" of those "timelines." However, this relatability on the DID aspect was soon hidden under the guise of "I like to write, and so does she! Also super traumatized like me lmao," and then we didn't think about it for five more years.
Come 2023, we've relapsed for the first time in four years and are going through some pretty traumatic stuff again. At an Esbat in September, an argument breaks out that causes us to dissociate and brings up those really painful feelings from childhood. Nothing felt real, and the rest of the night was foggy. (The people in the argument have since apologized. It was also an extremely stressful night due to our old High Priest being ousted for sexual misconduct not even 4 hours before we started.)
At this point, this whole debacle causes us to realize, "Hey, this isn't really a normal trauma response. There might be something else going on." We have a lot of friends who are systems, and we went to them asking, "Hey, do you like. think we're a system?" and FIVE OF THEM SNIFFED US OUT YEARS AGO AND DIDN'T BOTHER TO TELL US??? Like maybe that would have been useful information, idk (We still love our friends to bits, though)
So, fast forward to 2024. Still in the process of diagnosis but receiving trauma-focused therapy to process things. It's been a long process of figuring out how to live/function as someone with a dissociative disorder, but we're learning.
Thankfully, having a good support network has been a great help. We have an almanac (specifically The Practical Witch's 2024 Almanac by Friday Gladheart) to track our craft/spiritual work, and it's interesting to see the input of everyone in the collective. It's a lot of taking things day by day and seeing how things go, but we feel the energy around us changing.
Anyway, ramble over. If y'all read this to the end, thanks for sticking around. I've got some other posts we plan on making, so keep an eye out for those, too.
Signing off,
Alex of the Magic Collective

Zonai Spiral Breathing
This is a breathing technique I am developing that is heavily inspired by the Japanese breathing technique called Ibuki Nagayo.
We have all seen these spirals of energy if we have played Tears of the Kingdom or have seen footage of the game. At the start of the same, we see one of these spirals coming from the remnants of Rauru's arm holding onto Ganondorf's chest. We also see these spirals emanating from every Zonai shrine. This is because Rauru was absorbing the gloom from Ganondorf and transmuting it into purified Zonai energy which seems to be related to light and life. Shrines on the surface do correspond with Light Roots in the depths, after all.
There are two forms to this technique. The simplest to perform and the one that should be focused on most often is inhaling Force energy from the sacred realm and the Earth around you, absorbing it, and then circulating it within your body to improve your vitality.
Begin by getting into a comfortable position. You can sit, stand, or lie down. Whatever is best for your body. Sitting upright or standing are preferred, but any comfortable position will work. Gently settle your mind with a few slow breaths as you allow your thoughts to naturally come and go. Do not concern yourself with thoughts of having to feel perfectly settled to continue. Perfection is a goal to aim for, but insisting on it will massively hinder your progress. At this point inhale deeply, imagining Zonai light energy spiraling into your body and filling it to the brim. Hold the breath for a few seconds to allow it to settle and absorb. Exhale slowly, allowing the energy to spiral in the opposite direction with your breath as you circulate the energy. Try to do this for at least ten minutes, but any duration you can manage will be helpful!
There is a second form I'm working on, but I must be sure it isn't potentially harmful before I make it public. Either way I hope that this technique will be a good addition to our practices!
May the Goddess Smile Upon You!
-Florian Knight

Light of Blessing, Spirit Orb, and Stamina Vessel/Heart Container Ritual
Each of the orbs serve a different purpose, and it's best not to try and do all of these rituals at once. The orbs can be made of anything (crystal, metal, wood, rubber, cat toy w/e. I used marbles I found in the yard). It's a good idea to cleanse your item before you do the ritual. Doing this ritual will program this item to act as the blessing, orb, or vessel, so make sure you don't use it for unrelated rituals.
Light of Blessings are to purify and cleanse yourself of negative, unusable, and unwanted energy. Good to do as part of a routine.
Spirit Orbs are tokens of Hylia's grace used to imbue you with courage. Good to do after a huge defeat or before a challenging task. This is a transaction of power, so be prepared with an offering.
Stamina Vessels and Heart Containers are to restore your energy, especially if there is a specific issue draining you. Good for when you've lost motivation. Also a transaction of power but the source is more universal than straight from the Goddess. You will get what you put in! Good to do as part of a routine as well.
You will need:
Orb/Object you can hold in your hands
Shrine/Designated area for orb (bowl, pedestal, stand, bag)
Offering (candle, incense, food, etc)
Prep:
This is going to be a mainly meditation-based ritual so make sure you have a non-distracting area to do this. For a more ceremonial feel, wear white loose-fitting clothing. for the MOST ceremonial feel, wear a head covering.
Ritual:
Light your candles and incense if that is your offering. Set out any food or objects for offering in front of you. Sit or stand in a comfortable position. Close your eyes and take deep breaths, keeping your body loose but not limp.
Once you feel you have found a steady breathing rhythm, take your orb and fold your hands around it, close to your chest and pray.
[FOR LIGHT BLESSING
Light of Blessing, holy relic that imprisons and purifies ancient evil, may you shine upon me so I may be cleansed.
Take your orb and rub it in circles around your chest, imagining the negative energy being released from your body and absorbed into the orb. Feel free to cry, sing, stomp, jump, etc, whatever your body does to release energy.
Once you are ready, hold the orb in both of your hands. Take a deep breath and SLOWLY pull your hands away from your chest, still holding the orb. Imagine the negative energy being pulled away from your body. When your arms are fully outstretched, open your hands and offer the orb to its designated spot.
End the ritual by saying 'May you grant the strength I seek'.
LEAVE the orb until the next day/night change, so if you do this in the morning, wait for the sun to go down, if you do this at night, wait for the sun to come up, or however long you feel it takes for the orb to purify your energy. After that, you are now free to meditate with the orb, carrying it around, etc etc, but don't forget to repeat the process when it starts to feel heavy or your energy is wack.]
[FOR SPIRIT ORB
Goddess Hylia, I bring these offerings so you may grant me the courage to face the adversities ahead.
Meditate with the orb, tell her of the challenge you are going to face and what your best case scenario would be. Courage comes in many forms, it may be the courage to stand up for yourself, the courage to fail and learn, or the courage to walk away.
Once you are ready, open your palms to cradle the orb. Take a deep breath and slowly raise it up as high as you are comfortable holding. Imagine Her light pouring into the orb.
Once you are ready, slowly lower your hands back down, placing the orb against your chest.
End the ritual by saying 'May you smile upon me in my time of need'
You are now free to take this orb with you, meditate etc. Dispose of your offerings properly (burning, burying, eating, garbage can, etc)]
[FOR STAMINA VESSEL/HEART CONTAINER
Goddess Hylia, please bless me with the vitality to endure so that I may continue my quest for peace and balance.
Take your orb and rub it in between your hands, meditating on drawing in energy to you. If it helps, imagine hearts being added to your health meter and more rings added to your stamina wheel. Rub the orb as fast or as slow as you feel necessary.
Once you are ready/hands are tired, hold the orb still against your chest. Take a few deep breaths.
End the ritual by saying 'I shall go forth and bring peace to the land'.
You are now free to take this orb with you, leave it on an altar, etc. ]
Feel free to make any additions or changes to personalize the ritual, I would love to hear about anyone's experiences or results!

Golden Goddess Correspondences
This post was kind of a build off of something i sent to @hylianshrinemaiden
I decided to go and make a post for it!
Din: the sun. Celebrated on the Summer Solstice. Power, strength, fire
Nayru: the moon. Called upon during Lunar Magick and rituals during the New, Full, Blue, or quarter moons. Wisdom, knowledge, divination, water
Farore: the Earth. She represents the earthly power and energy in nature. Can be celebrated on Earth day. Good for grounding, spirit communication with the earth spirits such as the fae, nymphs, and animals. Courage, peace, earth
Hylia: the Sky. She represents the air and weather magic. Good for energy work, spirit communication with the air spirits such as sylphs, and birds. (Credit: hylianshrinemaiden)
