OP is 100% correct, but like, even if it were true that m/m ships are more popular because male characters tend to be better written, that would still be misogyny because then you would have to consider WHY that would be the case
“m/m ships are [usually] the most popular because male characters tend to be written better/are more interesting” is a lie. male characters can be the equivalent of a burnt scone on a paper plate and people will bite into it saying it’s delicious.

Supernatural September - Day 4 | Glitch
Canonically, Dean never said Cas’ name after the fake phone call in 15.19. Canonically, while Bobby said Cas “Helped” revamp Heaven into a Heaven that Dean “deserved,” Cas never showed up. Canonically, Dean left that heaven, which contained his family, to go “find family.”
There is a glitch that is Cas-shaped, and Dean knows it.

I am still willing to go on a rant over the nuance of the Ratgrinders and how they aren’t truly evil however I will be sending a laser guided ballistic missile to Oisin’s location at the next possible convenience

so you think of "when I was at the 118, I had gerrard. which did not make me a better person" and then how at gerrard's 118 the word "gay" was allowed only as a joke, but not too much even as a joke, because "easy, boys". and then you remember all the times tommy was glancing at gerrard before saying something to figure out how he should react/behave to be approved/accepted. and you think of "gerrard was like having the dad I already had" and- and then you remember the way tommy was looking at bobby in the bar scene and how happy he was with this 'new tradition' of bobby cooking a FAMILY dinner and- and "I don't [have daddy issues]" and

Apologies if you’ve read any of these before, but here’s some good books:
Silas Marner by George Eliot, I read this book for the first time lately after never having read any George Eliot before and now I know I need to read more. Realist novel about a socially outcast weaver who unexpectedly become the adoptive father of a young girl with unclear parentage.
The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro, reminiscences of a butler of his life in service during the 1920s and 1930s. Does have romance in it, but a lot of other stuff too.
All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot. Non-fiction, Herriot’s memoirs of his time as a country vet in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1930s. As the synopsis might suggest, this book does contain descriptions of surgery and other medical treatments being performed on animals, which a perfectly valid reasons to not want to read it, but it’s not too graphic, in my opinion, it’s very matter of fact.
There’s bound to be others, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head
My to-read list is dwindling a bit, and I could use some enrichment in my enclosure. Mutuals/friends, may I please have some recommendations if you have any?
To narrow it down a bit:
fiction preferred
nothing with explicit adult content
nothing that's overly concentrated on romance (it's fine as a well-done plot point but I'm not looking for romance as The Main Point Of Everything)
nothing medieval/pseudo-medieval (nothing wrong with this, just not what I'm looking for right now)
no sprawling epic high fantasies (see above)
nothing that exists only as an ebook (inconvenient right now)
Thank you!

Hayao Miyazaki could make a secret garden movie. He’d probably change things, he always does, but I don’t think I’d mind if it was him doing it. He understands children and grief and the restorative power of nature in a way that few filmmakers do
