curious about pronunciations of things- ik there are at least 2 language spoken (the phocid language with clicks and the languages the harpies speak that seems to be somewhat more universal), but i'm curious a.) if there are any other languages spoken on siren and b.) how the consonant "w" is pronounced? is it a "uu"/"wuu" sound/similar in any way to the pronunciation of the welsh "w"? are there differences in regional dialects between longwings/shortwings/etc? sorry this is so in depth,
Ooh good questions
a) Many different languages are spoken on Siren but there are three broad categories. There's spoken languages or "air" languages, all of which have a common root in English. There's click languages which are used underwater and produced using mixed tongue clicks and long, song-like vocals, these obviously can't have a root in English so they are less mutually intelligible than the air languages, with a few distinct families. And then there's sign languages used by zeta & anyone else who might need to use sign (deaf, mute etc). Zeta do not have tongues so they cannot vocalise the way most others can.
b) I haven't defined 'w' for Spire language but I do know that in pelagic spiral speech (a click language from the south-west) a written 'v' produces a 'waa' sound and there's no 'w', however this is just my own way of writing the words and i haven't worked or thought much about writing systems and alphabets.
c) Every language can be spoken by every type of person (with the sole exception discussed above). Even a shortwing can use & interpret click languages underwater (though in the absence of echolocating whiskers they might struggle with some intricacies). There's no such thing as a longwing dialect or the like because language is cultural and culture is based on geography. Everyone in that area speaks the language; most settlements are very mixed. I'm actively trying to avoid the common fantasy trope of like "elf language", the language spoken by elves (which elves? where? all of them??). I find it offers a very flattened and mistaken conception of what culture actually is.
Some language random facts: dry bowl language uses repeated sounds and syllables (names like pem-pem, kattakati, byin-byan). These are supposed to evoke bouncing and leaping actions, the language sounds very rhythmic spoken aloud
Misunderstandings of the spire's honourific chain system can lead to unintentional insults elsewhere in the world so people with spire names like qedi-var and kemi-anz will just introduce themselves as qedi or kemi to foreigners and go without suffixes in other languages
An air language is considered a very private, intimate way for pelagic people to talk with their loved ones. This is because murmuring some words into the other person's ear means that nosy eavesdroppers are unlikely to overhear. By comparison, if you say anything in a click language underwater, it can be heard hundreds of feet away and by everyone else in that radius. This inherent lack of privacy is hardbaked into many pelagic cultures, and in huarva's home village south of the spiral, air languages are strongly romanticised.

Cappagaris
The Cappagaris family weave a fascinating, if somewhat sinister, tale of origins. They claim descent from a noble house of the fallen Lym-Shara Empire, though there's no truth to such lofty boasts. In reality, the Cappagaris lineage can be traced back to slaves who earned their freedom centuries ago. It is said that their founder, Anz Cappagaris, made a pact with a demon, elevating his family from landless freedmen to one of the richest and most powerful families in the world.
The Cappagaris revel in the dark rumors surrounding their origins, using the fear these whispers generate as a means of control. Throughout Kathos, it is rare to find someone bold enough to speak ill of the Cappagaris family, for their influence is believed to extend far beyond the mortal realm, reaching into the worlds of both the living and the dead.
Overseeing their vast trade empire from the palatial city of Carnasis, the Cappagaris family live in opulent isolation. Entrance to this city is by invitation only, and even the high lords of the Karan Dron must receive a formal invitation to pass through the blue tourmaline gates that guard this private haven.
âThe taint of sorcery is carried through blood, rotting the tree from root to leaf. A rotten tree must be hewn and cast into the fire. Suffer not the sorcerer to live, nor those that carry his blood curse. It is more merciful to send a soul to the Great Fire than to allow the insidious taint of sorcery to blacken the soul. In the end, you are saving an innocent, not condemning yourself.â
âYuklim ibir-Ayna
In embracing the fear and superstition surrounding their supposed demonic pact, the Cappagaris have managed to maintain a tight grip on power. Their story is a testament to the lasting impact of rumor and reputation, and the dark allure of control through fear.

40- Adrian Kempe
A/N: The people want Kempe. and I am the people pleaser of this story. Congrats to đ§ IRL on 40! Can't wait for the playoffs.
Also, yes I had to mention Kevin, okay. I MISS HIM. But this is about Juice. Promise.
And can we please appreciate this GIF that literally made my heart skip when I saw it. Good GAWDDDDDDD.
Word Count: 967
Warnings: drinking, implied smut, fluffffffff, swearing (always with me)
40 goals, I think to myself as I wait with a few other girls for our boys to join us after their season closing win against the Anaheim Ducks. I smile against my straw, pausing from slurping up more of my margarita.Â
What a year Adrian has had. I canât wait for him to get here so I can squeeze him.
âTheyâre coming!â Ines Kopitar squeals, placing her drink back on the bar and rushing forward. I turn to watch, seeing her and the captain meet with a sloppy kiss. Sheâs a few drinks in and Anze has to catch her as she sways to the left.Â
Adrian is right behind them. His eyes meet mine. We grin at each other, maneuvering around the people between us to come together.Â
âHi!â I squeal at him, wrapping my arms around his shoulders. He collapses me into him, strong hands pressing into my middle back.
âHi.â He murmurs close to my ear, pressing his nose into my temple.Â
âYou are incredible. Iâm so, so proud of you, baby.â I pull back so we can share a kiss. Our lips meld perfectly in sync. âMmm. Been wanting to do that all night.â His beard tickles my face as he nuzzles our noses.
âMe too.â He reaches into the pocket of his dark jacket. âBrought you something.â
âAh!â I squeal excitedly, grabbing the white, Kings bucket hat from his hands. âMy hat!â I squeal, speaking of the Kings bucket hat I had bought in an emergency circumstance after forgetting a hat to lay out on Hermosa Beach. This fashionable hat lead to our meeting and our eventual friendship turning into love.
âI had to.â He insists, biting his bottom lip as I put it on. âJust as good as that first day.â He hooks his pointer finger under my chin, bringing our lips together again. This time, his tongue slides against mine in a hotter kiss.
âYou deserve a drink.â I murmur against his lips as we peck at each other.
âI think so.â He chuckles, wrapping an arm around my neck to keep me close. I link my fingers loosely with his, gliding my thumbs across his rings. As we wait for the bartender to come back, Adrian presses his nose into my hair.
âAnyone give you trouble?â He wonders. The King were at Honda Center tonight and with the fierce, freeway rivalry, it can get a little tense sitting amongst opposing fans.Â
âNo.â I shrug. âWe were surrounded by Kings fans. It was actually really fun.âÂ
âThatâs good. I was a bit worried about you.â
âIs that why you kept looking at me?â I raise an eyebrow. His constant glances were uncharacteristic tonight.
âYou noticed?â
âYeah. The girls in front of me thought you were looking at them though.â I adjust my voice higher. âOhmyGOD. He looked at us AGAIN!â I squeal, stomping my feet excitedly. His laughter wraps round us, making my chest warm from where it settles.
âDid you break their hearts?â
âNo. It was kinda cute.â
âSheâs beautiful and sweet.â He whispers, leaning in for another smooch.
âFuck, I am so single.â Quinton mutters from behind me.
âKeep your head up, QB.â Adrian murmurs, without looking away from me. âYouâll find this.â
âYouâre so sappy now.â I laugh at him, flicking my tongue against his lips.
âIâm just having a great fucking night.â He unwraps himself from me as the bartender puts his shot down.
âJuice for juice is on the house tonight. Congrats!âÂ
âThanks, man.â Adrian tosses the shot of tequila back, then sets the empty glass back on the bar. âThat is good shit.â He moans as the Clase Azul slides down his throat. âYou want one?â
âNo.âÂ
Adrian motions to the bartender who gives a thumbs up in acknowledgement. The shots are flowing around the team, everyone taking an opportunity to cheers to Adrian and the Kings incredible year. We all acknowledge Kevin Fiala, who is tucked at home with his wife after an injury. By the time we get to the last shot, Iâm pushing mine towards Ines, knowing Iâm going to be the one driving us home. Adrian is loose, laughing with our friends, while his hands drift around my body like we are in private.
I pull away from him and he snaps his gaze to me in annoyance.Â
âWhy.â
âI have to pee.â I whine, holding him back from pulling me in again.
âHurry.â
âOkay.â I roll my eyes and work my way to the back of the restaurant.Â
Itâs a quick in and out trip before my heels lead me back along the tiled floor to my superstar.
âLetâs get out of here.â Adrian intercepts me at the corner of the bar.
âOkay.â I shrug, not caring if we stick around. âIâm just going to say goodbye.â
âNah. Weâll get caught up longer.â He steps forward, making me take a step back towards the exit.
âKinda rude when everyone showed up for you.â I wrap my arms around his neck, giving him a look.
âThe boys understand.â He drags his eyes down my body. âHalf of them congratulated me on getting you in bed tonight.â I toss my head back. My hair swings down my jacket, brushing against his hands around me. He gathers it in his hand to hold me like that. He leans forward, pressing his lips against the front of my throat. I swallow in anticipation. He sucks my skin into his mouth making me whine.
âYouâre the only one I want to keep celebrating withâŚ. All⌠night⌠long.â He says between suckles.Â
âSay less.â I breathe out to him, tugging him with me as I walk backwards. We stumble into someone, giggling an apology then fly out the door before we can be stopped.

Blackjack - Santa Will Not Come: Chapter 2
Location: Yumenosaki Student Council Room Characters: Touri, Shinobu, Souma, Mao & Yuzuru Season: Autumn
Mao: Last yearâs âStar Festâ was a send-off party for âTrickstarâ.
In other words, the main goal of the event was for everyone to give us their support and cheer us on since weâll be representing Yumenosaki at âSSâ.
Every year, âSSâ begins less than a week right after âStar Festâ.
âStar Festâ is like the eve of the âSSâ festival â something like a rehearsal of sorts. Itâs efficient and logical.
Touri: ReallyâŚ? Honestly, that wasnât on my mind at all back then, so I donât really remember.
Yuzuru: Hehe. You were going through a rough time back then after having the proposal you came up with rejectedâŚ
Touri: Yeah⌠I wonât forget the misery I felt, thinking everything was over, and how cold the snow felt on my knees and in my palm.
Of course, I wonât ever forget how bright and dazzling the performance after that was too.
Souma: Hehe. Even though it was the send-off party for âTorikkusutaaâ, I remember everyone was grappling with their own problems.
In reality, that was the least of everyoneâs concernsâŚ
Naturally, âAKATSUKIâ was the only one who did not get swayed and worked diligently to give âTorikkusutaaâ a proper send off.
Touri: What? Are you trying to say that âAKATSUKIâ is better than âfineâ? Youâre so impertinent, Kanzaki-senpai, and youâre not even a member of the Student Council!
Souma: Hehe. My apologies. I was simply stating the truth â I had no intentions of provoking you.
Mao: Watch that mouth of yours, Touri~ Kanzaki may not be a member of the Student Council but heâs still your senior. Heâs been helping with our work since the beginning of the new school year, so weâre indebted to him.
Souma: Well, it can be easier to work if one is not affiliated with the organisation at times.
Even so, I am here to help as that is what Hasumi-dono has asked of me, so it is not my intention to cause trouble.
Please treat my presence as you would the air and continue with the discussion.
Mao: Well, this air certainly has a LOT of presenceâŚ
Anyway, if you guys have something to say, then feel free to mention it â that includes you, too, Kanzaki.
The others will speak if I donât so thatâs nice.
Sengoku, Anzu, do you have any questions so far?
Shinobu: YâYou donât have to make sure weâre included every single time, you know!? Didnât you just ask us that?
Mao: Right. I said that on purpose. For twice the comedic effect.
Touri: Canât you speak unless itâs got something to do with comedy, âTrickstarâ?
Mao: Heheh. Anyway, it seems this yearâs âSSâ will be fundamentally different from last yearâs.
âTrickstarâ wonât be the only ones taking part â every single idol can at least take part in the Qualifying Rounds if they so wish to.
Touri: So what youâre saying is since âSSâ has changed this year, the same needs to apply to âStar Festâ too?
Mao: Yup. If it was the same as last year, weâll just be criticised since weâll be the only ones favoured.
Iâll just be repeating what you just said, Touri, but we also have to change everything for âStar Festâ in order to match âSSâ.
The one thing that wonât change is the fact that itâll be a one-day event held during Christmas Live.
By the time âStar Festâ reaches its climax, itâll be a new day and everyone will celebrate by saying, âMerry Christmas!â
Touri: The same thing happened with âTanabata Festâ but itâs gonna be tough performing into midnight⌠I get so sleepy every time.
Yuzuru: During last yearâs âStar Festâ, the Young Master fell asleep halfway through, perhaps due to feeling less tense.
Touri: Yeah⌠Maybe Santa came by right then, but there were presents everywhere when I woke up.
Shinobu: Hehe. Santa did a good job using that opportunity. Heâs definitely a stealthy one ~de gozaru.
Mao: Yeah. Anyway, in order for the one-day-only âStar Festâ to be the best festival there is, we idols will be seeing hell, though.
Shinobu: This always happens with Anzu-donoâs proposals.
Touri: Yeah. It makes me realise every time that the most important thing an idol should have isnât singing skills or cuteness, but stamina instead.
Mao: You hear that, Anzu~?
Well, seeing as itâs another of Anzuâs proposals this year, I guess one thing wonât change â itâll be a test to see how long we can hold out for.
As long as weâre up for it, we can stand on stage for as long as we want, as many times as we want.
Souma: It is certainly something Anzu-dono would come up with.
If it is the job of a âpurodusaâ to guide us âaidoruâ to the stage weâve wished for, then Anzu-dono has done a splendid job.
Touri: Thatâs a compliment from the upperclassmen with tons of stamina, but itâs gonna be tough for the new students who donât have the right physique for it. Donât forget about them.
Mao: Iâd like to think theyâll be fine, though. There have been fewer students collapsing compared to last year â Anzu included.
Touri: Anzu has also grown after learning a thing or two.
Mao: I canât believe how different you are now â We couldnât leave you alone at all back when we first met you.
Hm? Iâm the same? I didnât seem reliable in the beginning but now Iâm doing an excellent job as the new student council president?
Oh, stop it â youâre making me blush~âŞ
Touri: Stop flirting with Anzu and get this discussion going!

Christmas Live - Prologue

"Hm, âmeow âŞâ? Is that your impression of a cat?"
[Read on my blog for the best viewing experience with Oi~ssu âŞ]
Season: Winter
Location: Yumenosaki Corridors
Yuzuru: âŚSigh. Iâm sorry, could you please repeat yourself?
Oh, no, itâs not that I couldnât hear you the first time. I donât mean to guilt you, but could you please speak a little more clearly?
Iâm here to prioritize assessing the situation correctly, rather than to criticize you. âŚWhat has happened, are you crying?
Youâll have to excuse me, I cannot take your feelings into consideration at this time.
Iâm terribly sorry, but, please do tell me what led up to this. Iâll handle it from here on.
Hm. What an inconvenience; I thought you had assured me you would have that matter taken care of.
If that comes to a stop, then this entire thing will come to a standstill.
What trouble. Biting off more than you can chew only reveals your inadequacy.
You should prove your usefulness not with your words, but with your actions, and your results.
Yes. Do not worry, allow me to take care of it. You should give your face a quick rinse.
Iâll contact you again later, so⌠Alright, do excuse me.
⌠âŚ
Yuzuru: âŚHow vulgar.[1] Well, I can understand how he feels.
Oya, Anzu-san. Itâs not in very good taste to eavesdrop, you know.
No, there isnât any serious trouble. No need for the producer to go through the hassle of interfering.
Youâre busy with your own business after all, are you not?
Fufu. It is indeed December, the end of the year.
Soon it will be Christmas⌠The academy has plans to hold the large-scale event we know as StarFes.
And as expected, the student council appears to be short on hands, and I have been requested to assist with preparations.
I do not wish to be so meddlesomeâŚ
However, the student council is one of the young masterâs places to be. It is my duty as a butler to support him, as well.
Furthermore, the results I achieve will also affect the young masterâs evaluation.
And so, I am doing the best to my ability. I am having quite the tough time, thoughâŚ.
Itâs one issue after another, you see, and Iâm extremely busy. Iâd welcome even the help of a cat.[2]
Hm, âmeow âŞâ? Is that your impression of a cat?
You act quite unusually sometimes, donât you, Anzu-san. Regardless, as Iâve said⌠Iâm sure that you have your own work to complete.
So please, prioritize that.
I understand exactly how you feel. Labor is a blessingâNo, it is life itself. It devastates me to have to take a break for the New Year holiday season.
Fufu. That being said, it is a season where you can easily fall sick⌠Please take care of yourself, Anzu-san.
I do not have the time for a long conversation now, so do excuse me.
Oh. Iâm sorry, but please do not tug at the hem of my uniform. You resemble a lost child. What can I do for you?
Hm. So⌠Itâs a rare occurrence, but you truly are free today, Anzu-san?
Nobody will give you any work, because theyâre all concerned about you? Well, you have been working a lot, Anzu-san⌠It wouldnât be good if you were to collapse from overexertion.
Make good use of everyoneâs concern for you, and please rest. How about finding a hobby, or joining a club?
That is what I do on my days off, too.
I strengthen my mind with the archery club, and do careful and meticulous cleaning around the mansion I normally am not able to get toâŚ
Do you have any hobbies, Anzu-san?
Hm. You still insist on some kind of work? âPlease donât reduce my hours, boss!ââŚ? Fufu, thatâs a very funny joke. âŞ
As you wish. I just canât say no when Iâm pleaded to so lovingly like that.
Hm⌠May I ask you to do a bit of shopping for me, then?
An errand. Basically; there are some trivial things I need.
The quantity doesnât justify ordering from a vendor and getting it delivered, but it is a hassle to do the shopping oneself.
It would be a massive help if you could do this errand for me, Anzu-san.
Just a moment, please. Allow me to make a list of the items we need purchased. Correction fluid, a Bible, chocolate bonbons⌠Hm, what is it?
Youâd like me to draw you a picture? No need to be so mean; you know that I possess no artistic talent.
Umm, well then⌠A turkey, then, a Christmas tradition.
The turkeyâs saying, âThank you for doing the shopping, Anzu-chan! âŞâ Howâs this?
Fufu. I am glad that you like it.
Thank you very much. I had been overwhelmed with busyness up until some moments ago, butâŚ
I feel somewhat more at peace now. Thanks to you, Anzu-san. âŞ
Anyhow. For this upcoming yearâs endâŚ
Let us end it meaningfully, and without any regrets. Although Iâm sure you know that well, Anzu-sanâŚ
Ah, right, yes⌠The items I need for this errand arenât ones necessarily needed right away.
So please do take your time strolling around town as you shop.
It is a delight simply to wander around with all the beautiful lights put up everywhere. âŚItâs a tad early, but nevertheless, Merry Christmas. âŞ

The word here used is zokubutsu (äżçŠ), the same word Shu often uses to describe Mika (and sometimes other people as well).
A japanese idiom, neko no te mo karitai (çŤăŽćăĺăăă) used to describe extreme business. Translated literally here so Anzuâs cute way of offering to help makes sense!
