The thing is, is that actually there is basis in the claim that agate does ward off evil islamically (on the basis that the Prophet wore a ring with agate stone for protection) - not djinn specifically, just general bad things. However, there are things that are believed to ward off djinn, things like salt, and certain incense (usually oud), Quranic verses etc. In terms of stone or rocks, there is also like, the fact that prayer beads (sebha/tasbeeh) will eventually become protective because of the fact that you pray with them.

And yeah I dunno if I'd trust those slots to catch a sword, especially not an overhead strike. I just forsee that thing snapping in half but of I may make a suggestion instead of just saying "well ackualky".

If paired with a rapier that thing would make you the bane of any duelist. Simply catch your opponents weapon in the bind with your rapier and then you can safely transfer the blade of there sword into one of those slots and snap it.

Now I'd also reccomend instead of doing that just stabbing them in the throat instead but if you find yourself in a duel with the son of a rather powerful family and don't wish to be poisoned, this is a better option to defuse that situation.

All that being said you could still break your opponents weapon with a standard parrying dagger. But the one pictured above gives you the ability to add more range of motion from your arm and shoulders with relative ease depending on your stance when you catch it.
