Gehenna, the greek name for the Valley of Himmon, is a valley surrounding Jerusalem and is often referred to as a place of divine punishment.
In the Hebrew Bible, the Book of Joshua states in 28:3 that King Azah “burnt incense and children in the valley.” 33:6 mentions that his grandson continued this ritual. The children were sacrificed to the god Moloch. In 7:31Jeremiah(prophet) says to end the practice and all the shrines for it. So King Josiah answers this call and destroys the shrines to prevent the sacrifices. Important to add that this was never proven in any sense. The name Moloch only appears 8 times in the hebrew bible, so its not 100 percent confirmed that its even a god. A lot of theologists think that this ritual wasn’t actually a sacrifice but more like a rite of passage for a child. Plus that its actually just anti-pagan propaganda of that time.
In Aramaic translations of the hebrew bible, Gehenna is used for verses about resurrection, judgement and fate of the wicked.
In the christian Bible, Jesus refers to it as a dump where the habitants burn their trash and criminals. He calls it the pit of eternal fire which never burns out. Jesus uses Gehenna to symbolise the eternal suffering of the second death(The second death here refers to the punishment of sinners after death.). Its not the same as the eternal lake of fire as in the Book of Revelation but it corresponds to it. So gehenna is not Hell itself but more a symbol of it.
The reason why a lot of people call it hell is because 16th century translaters translated hades and gehenna both as hell. In Islam, the islamic name for hell, Jahannam derives from the word Gehenna!
So originally, Gehenna was just a valley but then became a place of sacrifice BUT this may be misinformation and it actually was used for rite of passages. It then became a dumping place, where the wicked were burned. It was never referred to as Hell but became synonymous with it after 16th century translations and the concept being analogous to the eternal lake of fire in BoR. The word Gehenna itself is referred to in verses about resurrection.
But how does this correspond to The summer Hikaru died?
A lot of those points fit the story very well! Like how they sacrificed their own people to a pagan god and how the village sacrificed heads to Unuki-sama. Im not entirely sure about this one point about the misinformation aspect. We know that the village believes that Nounuki-sama is some inherently evil spirit. But it’s not actually true, it’s more a man made thing. The villagers came to Nounuki-Sama. Like how Gehenna wasn’t inherently associated with hell but more so over the years. It also fits How Gehenna is often used in verses about resurrection, which kind of is what happened to Hikaru after being taken over by Nounuki-sama. AND how Josiah abolished the shrines and therefore the rituals may be what will happen in the story, how Yoshiki (and Hikaru) will overcome the village tradition and kind of put an end to what the elders and everyone before them have been doing. Maybe maybe idk these r just my thoughts would love more thoughts on this

Judges 7: 22-25. "The Bar."
Tumblr media
The end of the Midianite phase of life is the end of adolescence, AKA the crossing of the Jordan. As the Rab says, one must go to the Jordan it is not in your mind, it does not come to you. "If you want kosher milk, you are going to have to go to the cow and get the milk."
In the following conclusion to chapter 7, God says persons who want to leave adolescence behind, get laid as much as they want, be happy, and bring glory to a place have to move on to another. The Torah and the Book of Joshua say this is best done in the company of others.
Some will want to do it with others too much and this results in Beth Shittah, "A commitment to infidelity." Zererah means to become inspired, committed, or beseiged by one who is not-committed and Abel Meholah, "is vain and drives a flow, a discharge, an outgrowth.
Everyone loves the boy in the baseball cap who jogs in by wearing ripped shirt with his shorty socks and asscrack hanging out, but he is not the one for you. The Shoftim says he is a Zsa Zsa Le Whore, a walking talking dirty cock and to let him run by. You keep on going to Tabbath:
"The verb טוב (tob) means to be good or pleasant, and ultimately to be sustained or sustainable, first relative to society but ultimately to the universe at large. Adjective and noun טוב (tob) means good; noun טוב (tub), describes a good thing or goodness, and noun טובה (toba) denotes welfare.
Closely related verb יטב (yatab) means to be or do good (to do sustainable things). Noun מיטב (metab) means the best.
A proposed root טבב (tabab) may have meant something like to keep forever, to be perpetual, to be stable."
It is hard to believe one will find a babe or a stud that has any of these characteristics but the Tanakh says they are not an option, they are a must. A boy or a girl who is committed to being disloyal is will bring horror into one's world. We've all seen someone we had to have and taken our chances, but the Tanakh says we need to be prepared to leave this very unattractive behavior behind for what is called Beth Barah: "A Clean Birdhouse."
"The verb ברר (barar) essentially means to clean, purify or clarify. Usually, whatever needs to be purified is first pulverized and then sorted: the useful elements are gathered and stored, and the fluff, chaff, dust and other garbage is either blown away by wind, washed away by water, burned with fire or simply scooped up and physically dumped somewhere. In the case of metal ore, the material is heated so that the good stuff flows out and separates by its nature from the bad stuff and its nature.
Obviously, in the Bible these principles are lavishly applied to the cognitive and social economies. Also note the striking similarity with the Aramaic noun בר (bar), meaning son.
Derived adjective בר (bar) means pure or clean and identical noun בר (bar) denotes a kernel of grain or corn. Noun בר (bor) denotes a kind of material that was used in the metal purification process, and identical masculine noun בר (bor) means cleanness or pureness.
Feminine noun ברית (borit) denotes a kind of soap (and is spelled identical to the word meaning covenant; see below). Noun בר (bar) describes a field (perhaps a freshly plowed, cleaned and ready-to-sow one?), and the masculine plural noun ברברים (barburim) denotes a kind of bird known literally and for unknown reasons as "cleany-cleanies".
Avoid Oreb and Zeeb, "the lurker and the wolf." A skilled Jewish Shopper will keep his or her messengers, their eyes peeled for someone that has it all. Once once finds him, the Shoftim says to pursue him all the way to the altar:
22 When the three hundred trumpets sounded, the Lord caused the men throughout the camp to turn on each other with their swords. The army fled to Beth Shittah toward Zererah as far as the border of Abel Meholah near Tabbath.
23 Israelites from Naphtali, Asher and all Manasseh were called out, and they pursued the Midianites.
24 Gideon sent messengers throughout the hill country of Ephraim, saying, “Come down against the Midianites and seize the waters of the Jordan ahead of them as far as Beth Barah.”
So all the men of Ephraim were called out and they seized the waters of the Jordan as far as Beth Barah.
25 They also captured two of the Midianite leaders, Oreb and Zeeb. They killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and Zeeb at the winepress of Zeeb. They pursued the Midianites and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon, who was by the Jordan.
The Values in Gematria are:
v. 22: The Lord caused the men throughout the camp to turn on each other with their swords. The Value in Gematria is 11525, יאהבה. "Someone you will be fond of."
v. 23: Israelites were called out. The Value in Gematria is 4349, ד‎גדט‎‎, dagdat, "She was worried."
v. 24: Gideon sent messengers out throughout the Hill Country. To search the Hill Country is to go looking for love. The Value in Gematria is 8755, חז‎הה, "A bra for my chest."
= both persons must have surpassed their Presentations.
v. 25: They captured the Lurker and the Wolf. They were brought to the Rock of Oreb and the Winepress of Zeeb.
Lurkers are "purity police". Rocks are the places we invest our faith. To bring a puritan to the Rock is to teach him what is good and dirty and just plain disgusting are not the same things.
A good Jew does not watch a friend or relative suffer in a relationship with a wolf that wants to waste his time and does not want to get married and become a member of a Jewish family.
The Value in Gematria is 9851, טחהא, tahha, but should such things happen "They will be astonished."
Most wolves do not successfully marry but if it happens it is a good thing.

Tales of Asgard Casting
Asgard:-
Algrim the Strong (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje)
Odin's trusted advisor. Lost his entire race in a three way war between Svartalfheim, Jotunheim and Asgard. Odin's father Bor, having defeated the Dark Elves, made peace with the Jotuns. To keep said peace he elected not to stop their march on Svartalfheim decimating the realm and its people. Bor brought Algrim to Asgard out of pity, believing him to be the last of his kind. Algrim then struck up a friendship with Odin.
Balder (Alexander Skarsgård)
The eldest son. A little older than Thor and is an Einherjar in training. The favourite son, Odin frequently asks him for his opinion. Admires his father greatly.
The golden boy. Finds things too easy in general and pals around with Volstagg and Hogun, not taking things too seriously.
He is one of the Warriors Three in the first series instead of Fandral. He gets into the Einherjar despite the Sword of Surtur incident. He becomes more serious after this.
Balder is one of Thor's training partners and becomes his sole, private trainer after the Sword of Surtur incident.
He has his eye on Nanna from the Royal courtiers.
Fandral (Zachary Levi. I just enjoy his performances. Sorry Joshua!)
Son of courtiers, of an age with Thor. Appears sporadically in s1 as a teen. Replaces Balder in the Warriors Three after an episode in s2. Sporadic appearances from parents and sister.
Runs very fast! (Not as fast as Quicksilver). Talks very smooth! Loyal and brave!
Frigga (Renee Russo)
Frigga is more reasonable than Odin and just as wise, we should see that. She can make proclamations and even disagree with him in public. If he is stubborn she uses more subtle methods.
Everyone respects her opinion.
She has taught Loki well, but he wants to know things that Frigga won't teach.
Haldor (?)
Haldier's son. Einherjar in training. Falls for Sif at first sight. Brave and honourable.
Receives Gullenbursti to pull his chariot. Bequeths it to Sif upon his death.
Haldier (?)
Asgardian blacksmith.
Heimdall (Idris Elba)
Guardian of the bifrost. Wise and just can see almost anywhere in the nine realms. Has the gift of foresight, often sees trouble coming.
Hodr (Kristian Nairn? Ha! A tall person)
A member of the royal court. Gentle. Visually impaired.
Hogun (Tadanobu Asano)
Originally a Vanir. Moved to join Einherjar during long established peacetime between Vanaheim and Asgard. Overly serious. A little cynical. A fine warrior. Brave and loyal.
Loki Odinson (Tom Hiddleston/Sophia Di Martino when Loki changes sex)
The troubled middle child. He senses that Odin has never truly liked or trusted him. He envies his older brother Balder who can seemingly do no wrong. He envies his younger brother who is rewarded even when he screws up.
Loki is jealous, devious and mischievous.
Taught by Frigga to shape-shift, he sometimes loses himself in the new form, resulting in some interesting children.
His father took Sleipnir, Loki's foal when he grew big and strong as he was very fast.
His father took Jormungundr, his baby serpent as it grew big and dangerous.
Similary, Odin brought Fenrir back as a pup from a quest in Jotunheim. He gives it to Loki to raise and we frequently see the wolf with him. Only heartache follows once again.
He finds a kindred spirit in Sigyn, who teaches him illusion casting and other dark magicks.
When he changes sex he is played by Sophia Di Martino. Instead of her blond wavy look in the Loki series it is long, dark and straight like boy Loki's.
Lorelei (Elena Satine)
Once Lorelei begins to explore her gifts she loves the thrill of the power it gives her over others.
Punished for taking the menfolk of the nine realms in her thrall and the devastation this leaves in her wake, she takes terrible revenge on the Asgardian royal family.
Odin (Anthony Hopkins)
The all knowing Allfather. Outwardly arrogant and crochety, Odin is feeling the strain of all his secret and not so secret misadventures and conquests possibly coming back to haunt him. Though less warlike than in his younger days he is still prone to rash judgements and sometimes rash actions. He is trying to be more considered as he is genuinely trying to keep the peace. Frigga sees the strain of this task and tries to help him walk the path.
Still has a twinkle in the eye when it comes to adventure, but all too aware of the consequences now. He likes to tell his boys tales of his adventures, but Loki's disbelief and mockery sometimes makes him wish he never started.
Blows hot and cold with his boys. Mostly cold to his youngest, Loki, due his origins.
Hugin and Munin are his crow spies.
Sif (Jaime Alexander)
A strong candidate for the Einherjar, rejected for her dalliance with the Valkyries. Clever and skilled, she is more than a match for Thor. Unfortunately Thor never sees it.
She finds comfort with Haldor, but heartache soon follows.
Tries to bring some much needed wisdom to the Warriors Three without much success.
Replaces Freya in all the tales that feature here. Sister to Volstagg. Daughter of Njord.
Sigyn (Noomi Rapace)
Not high born and fully aware of it. Ambitious in outlook but always feels like an outsider. Naturally drawn to Loki as an "in" to the Royal court, but genuinely likes him and is aggrieved by his treatment at Odin's hand. She undermines Odin to him, getting him riled up about things that Odin and his family have done and encouraging him to be ambitious. She wants Loki on the throne.
An accomplished sorcerer, she teaches Loki illusion casting and other dark magicks. We see her teaching Loki some things that Frigga wouldn't. But where did she learn them?
Sigyn replaces Amora as Sylvie is clearly the MCU's Enchantress.
Siegrold
Friend of Haldor and Sigyn
Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth)
The spoilt youngest. Adores his father and puts too much stock in his tales, believing glory in battle is the measure of a man and a king.
Full of bravado, rash and foolhardy. Has a good heart underneath.
Has his goats, Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr, to pull his chariot when he can't use the bifrost.
Volstagg (Ray Stevenson)
Replaces Frey in the old Norse tales that appear here. Enjoys eating, storytelling and a good fight. Sif teases him by saying they used to call him the fairest of the gods. Then he pats his tummy and says, "Is this not a thing of beauty?"
Full of bluster and tall tales, Volstagg is actually a fine warrior when he gets round to it. Loyal and brave.
Brother to Sif. Son of Njord. Captain of Skidbladnir.
Captain Ander (?)
Leader of the Einherjar in s1.
Captain Harokin (?)
New Captain of the Einherjar in s2. At some point after s2 ends, the Battle of Harokin is pretty much started by Harokin's death. When Thor and Sif joke about the battle of Harokin (TDW), Thor can profess that he misses Harokin. He was a fine warrior. RIP.
Elliot Randolph (Peter MacNicol)
Don't actually know this character's Asgardian name.
Tyr (Clive Russell)
Skurge (Karl Urban)
An ordinary soldier in the Einherjar at this point.
+Various Einherjar
Eir (Alice Krige)
Frey (?)
Very beautiful. Brother to Freya.
Freya (?)
Very beautiful. Sister to Frey.
Grace (Eliza Matengu)
Hidegund (Claire Brown)
Nanna (Alicia Vikander)
Recurring guest star. Develops a relationship with Balder over 2 seasons.
Njord (?)
Father of Volstagg and Sif. Taken by Skírnir as a husband, his second marriage.
Skírnir (?)
Giantess. Marries Njord as consolation for the death of her father.
Frey's employee
+Various courtiers
Alfheim - Light Elf
Various female Light Elves in the Lorelei episode, also occasionally appearing in Asgard.

Tumblr media
Annak a pillanatnak, amikor azon morfondíroztam, hogy bakker, nekem most komolyan, úgy igazából sikerülni fog... tényleg megcsinálom. Egy-egy ilyen pillanatban a gondolat eljutott egészen a szívemig, lelkemig, és önfeledten tudtam örülni a sikernek. A mai napig magukkal ragadnak az ilyen ráébredések.
- Nosztalgiáztam: Ha a célig vezető út tartalmaz vidám élményeket is, érdemes visszatekinteni rájuk.

Albi

For anyone who has an FE6 muse or is considering picking one up, I just finished the Hasha no Tsurugi manga and made notes on what canon characters show up in what chapters including villains and minor backstory characters. My full list chapter-by-chapter is under the cut, but I’ll give a warning that if a character literally only showed up for ONE panel, I listed them. I think I got pretty much every instance of a character, no matter how minor, but near the end I might’ve started wavering in my ability?
For those wondering which characters I personally think get the most icon material out of this experience, it’s the following:
Chad, Lance, Echidna, Cecilia, Perceval, Douglas, Elphin, Roy, Guinivere, Zephiel, Narcian, Fae, Sophia, Murdock, and Niime
Runner-ups are Lilina, Lugh, Igrene, and Eliwood
Chapter 17, 18, 36, and 40 are the chapters where characters most likely only show up for a second back-to-back.
Characters that do not show up at all (some FE7 characters get more screentime than these people...) are: Ogier, Bartre, Cath, Zeiss, Dayan, Juno, Karel, Galle, Hector, most enemy bosses
Now onto my full list. If a chapter isn’t listed, it has no instances of a canon character.
CH1: Niime (albeit disguised)
CH3: Chad
CH9: Zephiel, Narcian, Brunnya, Murdock, Lance, Eliwood

One More Turn Of The Screw At Medium
Announced with fanfare a few days ago: Medium Seeks Partners to Launch New Publications. This is jaw-dropping considering how many pivots the company has undertaken, and how many 'partners' it has screwed over in the process.
Medium's current strategy seems to be growing into a media giant, like a redo of the old Huffington Post or Forbes, before those pubs chased away all the flakes. But in the meantime, they are attracting all the 'thought leaders' writing listcicles and self-help manifestos, and on top are trying to create their own 'publications' with paid writers.
The site is maddening, oversaturated, and terrible to navigate.
Sadly, many writers I know and admire write there.
I am involved in a new publishing venture (about which more later) and I had considered publishing it there, but I think I will go a different route. I don't believe Williams.
My friend Rafat Ali tweeted about this:
Since this is Medium, unfortunately this will close down in a year too. Sad to see writers being fooled & falling for this again & again & again. This NYT story is surprisingly context-free. https://t.co/9GyraZ5a3d
— Rafat Ali, Media Operator (@rafat) March 19, 2019
The NYTimes article was a Bittman puff piece with no discussion of the many pivots at Medium. And no mention of the departure of Hackernoon from Medium and Medium's efforts to screw them as they were moving.
I've written about Medium numerous times:
June 2015 What’s Going On At Medium?
January 2017 Medium shifts direction, away from ads and towards … what, exactly?
January 2018 Medium Continues Dismantling Publications
February 2018 Ev Williams Hires Siobhan O’Conner from Time, to continue Transition into Megamagazine
For those who want to review the various zigs and zags in Medium's history, I recommend Medium's Mess: The rise and fall of the site that was supposed to save journalism by Katie Fustich. Here's one long excerpt:
In 2014 the company acquired and relaunched the digital magazine Matter as a general-interest publication with the goal of creating a home for “timely, original journalism that combines the reporting and scope of serious publications with the fun and intimacy of the social web.” Originally a subscription-funded, Kickstarter-launched science publication, Matter got a new editor-in-chief, the veteran GQ editor Mark Lotto, and became the mouthpiece of Medium itself, commissioning glossy, high-budget content that served as a tentpole for the platform. It published elaborate features like an account of lawyer Shannon Liss-Riordan’s 2015 lawsuit against Uber, as well as Awl-ish musings on neon signs, and an epically long essay on selfies. (Disclosure: Study Hall publisher Kyle Chayka was a contributor.) The aggressive editorial strategy nabbed Matter a National Magazine Award for Joshua Hammer’s long-form reporting on the Ebola crisis, making it the first digital publication to win the award.
In addition to re-launching Matter, Medium expanded its staff. The site raised $25 million and $57 million in 2014 and 2015, respectively, giving the company a $400 million valuation. Medium also continued to roll out new publications funded by its own capital as well as scattered ad deals, like Re:form, a design blog sponsored early on by BMW.
With a sleek publishing interface and shiny, award-winning content, Medium became an attractive publishing option for media newcomers and websites struggling to make it on their own in the digital platform era. In 2013, comics publisher The Nib launched with Medium under cartoonist Matt Bors, and in 2015, by-and-for women’s news site The Establishment set up shop. Smaller media companies like Pacific Standard, The Awl, and The Ringer also began using Medium’s platform as a content management system, in deals sweetened with guaranteed revenue from Medium’s inchoate ad operations. In 2016, Pacific Standard magazine editor-in-chief Nicholas Jackson gushed, “Moving to Medium was an obvious solution for what we wanted to do.”
But there were persistent tremors of uncertainty. In summer 2014, Medium announced it would be rolling out native ads and sponsored posts, finally answering the question of how the site planned to make money (Williams had previously stated that traditional banner ads would tarnish Medium’s aesthetic). In 2015 Matter began to slow down its publishing, and by 2016 it was crumbling, publishing its final post in November. The title relaunched as an independent media incubator-slash-studio that March, with funding from Williams himself and leadership by Lotto and his wife Hillary Frey, the former executive editor of Fusion (now executive editor at Huffington Post). Then the studio closed abruptly in January 2017 due to management issues, leaving writers with potential collaborative projects—book deals and film aspirations—in the lurch. The studio did, however, produce a trailer and swag for its rebrand logo.
Matter’s sudden shift coincided with the departure of Pacific Standard, The Ringer, and The Awl from the Medium platform. In May 2017, less than a year after joining Medium, Jackson was already explaining that Pacific Standard’s departure from Medium would allow it to increase subscriber growth and develop new features. The Awl departed several months later without much fanfare. Editor Silvia Killingsworth described the publication’s return to WordPress in a post that referred to Medium as “a cool experiment, in my opinion.” She continued, “Personally I missed the ads.” (The Medium detour seemed to help derail The Awl permanently; it shut down in January of this year.)
Medium’s meandering business model meant that in early 2017 it was forced to lay off approximately 50 staffers (one-third of the company at the time) and close offices in New York City and Washington, D.C. Under duress, the company pivoted away from serving as a platform for other media brands and doubled down on its own fraught editorial strategy.
