All DST mobs and whether or not Maxwell created them (Or probably/probably didn't create them.

Hi I stayed up past 1 doing this. Originally started as a writing guide for myself, but I spent way too long on it so if you want to read it for fun, lore, or also use it for writing feel free too.

(Under a cut, because there's a lot of mobs in dst. Seriously, it is long. You've been warned. Also, every mob has an explanation as to why it is/might've been created by Maxwell or not.)

7/5/2023 edit: Added quotes for some mobs explanations, added wormholes, and also noted that crow kids and corvus are implied to be from another dimension.

Mobs Maxwell created (All mobs that Maxwell directly state as his.):

-Clockwork knights and bishops

(He comments "My creations! How rude." when a knight sculpture has been mined, and his fountain of knowledge quotes imply he created the bishops out of fountains of knowledge pieces. He probably also made rooks, but he says "The builders have left it in a state of abandonment." when examining a nightmare one, so the rooks might be older. Someone on the wiki suggests

though.)

-Red, blue, and regular hounds

(He says "I put fire gems in there as a joke." for fire hounds, and "I had a lot of surplus gems!" for ice hounds, plus he sadly mentions that the hounds don't remember him ("They don't recognize me!"). It is unknown if he created Vargs too, though Varglets ("They're smaller than I remember… going soft on us, Charlie?") and briar wolves were created by Charlie and horror hounds are hounds reanimated by Alter.)

-Spiders, spider warriors, and likely spider queens

(When examining a nurse spider, he says "I don't think that's one of mine." implying the rest are his. All cave spiders seem to be spiders that got underground and evolved ("Creatures in this world evolve at a terrifying rate." is what he says about dangling depth dwellers), shattered spiders were mutated by Alter, and Sea Striders seem to be spiders that mutated on the surface.)

-Tallbirds

(States "These were a failed experiment." when examining one.)

-Houndius Shootius

(Says "Some of my better work." when examining one. Possibly invented/created it after being freed from the throne though.)

Mobs Maxwell did not create (Mobs he denies creating, creatures that he doesn't recognize or creatures that got into the constant without him knowing, or mobs that he otherwise did not create canonically.)

-Bees, killer bees, and the bee queen

(Bees, killer bees, and bee hives are shown in a mural in the Metheus puzzle, meaning they've been around since the time of the ancients. For bee queen, he says "I didn't make that one! Really!". Also, fun fact: The scientific name for killer bees is Apidae Maxwellius.)

-Depths worms

(Says "I didn't make that one! Honest!" upon examining one.)

-Ghosts, pipspooks, and Abigail

(They're just dead humans.)

-Merms

(He says that "They were already here when I arrived." The gorge event implies that the merms are goats/pigs/any other sentient creature from the gorge that got cursed by the gnaw to turn into a merm, and all other merms are likely descended from residents of the gorge.)

-All shadow creatures

(At least some of the shadow creatures are ancients, and other shadow creatures have been seen before Maxwell's reign. Newer shadow creatures like Jitters, Rasp, and Shriek (The ink blights in the terrors below update) are possibly just servants of Them?))

-All lunar mobs

(Gestalts and their variants come from Alter, other mobs such as Carrats, Saladmanders, Bulbous Lightbugs, and Mush gnomes seem to be mutated plants/animals, that likely mutated due to Alter. Lunar moths count too.)

-Powder monkeys, Prime Apes, and the monkey queen

(He states "You're not one of mine… where did you come from?!" when examining a powder monkey. 'He might've created the Splumonkies though, as his quotes don't confirm or deny creating them and "one of mine" might be referring to them if it doesn't refer to his creations in general.)

-Probably no-eyed deer/gem deer

(He says "You do not belong in MY world!" when attacking a deer. I'm unsure if this only applies to gem deer or all deer though.)

-Rockjaws (The shark thingies)

(He states "What a nasty creature. I wish I'd thought of it." upon examination. )

-Likely most RoT mobs

(Since he was dethroned by the time all those mobs started appearing. This includes ocean fish, Malbatross, Skittersquids, Cookie Cutters, Sea Weeds, and Gnarwails.)

-Grass gators

(They live in the waterlogged biome, which Maxwell didn't know about. "When did this get here?" is what he says about a great tree trunk.)

-Ancient Sentrypede

(They live in the archives, which Maxwell states he didn't know about during his reign. "How did I not know of this place? Did They know?" when examining an ancient moon statue in the archives.)

-All mobs added in the Terraria crossover

(These were brought to dst by Wortox.)

-Rabbits

(They appear in the Metheus puzzle, and have their own ancient runes, meaning they've been around long before Maxwell's reign.)

-Krampii, Klaus, and imps in general

(They all come from their own dimension. Also, Wortox can read ancient runes easily, so it's possible the krampii have existed as long as if not longer than the ancients.)

-Slurtles and Snurtles

(Likely evolved/entered the constant/were created after Maxwell's reign, as he states "I don't remember those…" and "That's strange. They must be new." when examining either of them respectively.)

-Charlie's Carrat

(...Created by Charlie.)

-Butterflies

(Like rabbits, the ancients have a rune for them, meaning they've been around since at least some time during the ancients existence.)

-Dust moths (My beloved)

(Live in the archives, and also they're how the ancients got thulecite.)

-Birds

(Maxwell states when examining most birds that he doesn't know how they got into the constant. Crows probably came into the constant when a couple of them were captured with Wes, though the ancients have a rune specifically for crows so it's possible they've existed for longer or a few of them entered the constant a while ago. There's also some drawings of birds in the Metheus puzzles. The Cawnival crows are likely mutated/evolved crows, and misshapen birds and moonblind crows are birds mutated by Alter.)

-Corvus Goodfeather and the crow kids (The Cawnival birds)

(They're implied to be from a different dimension. Crow kids have a chance of saying "Who was that, with the red fur? He seemed kinda familiar." likely referring to Wortox. They also say "Where are we from? Oh you know, here and there..." Also, Corvus says "I've been known by many names, but you may call me Corvus Goodfeather!" and Wortox's examination quote for Corvus is "Goodfeather, hm? I think I know him by another name.")

-Ancient fuelweaver (And the other reanimated skeletons)

(Canonically one of the ancient rulers.)

-Bernie and Ashley

(Willow's had them since childhood, though it's possible that Maxwell enchanted them to grow large in the constant?)

-Jimmy (Bio Scanalyzer)

-Charlie

(It's. It's Charlie.)

-Mockingbirds

-The curio trader

(A human taken to the constant? They're just sorta there, we know very little about him.)

-Battlemaster Pugna

(Stated to be a human from our world.)

-Residents of the Gorge

(Since merms come from the Gorge, and merms were already in the constant when Maxwell arrived, I assume all Gorge residents existed before Maxwell's reign (Or at least their ancestors did.)

-Moose/Goose

(He says "It's definitely from the North, whatever that is." showing he doesn't know what it is.)

Mobs I don't think Maxwell created (This is more subjective, though, It is possible he created some of these mobs. Please note that.)

-Forge mobs

(I assume they all arrived in the forge before Maxwell's reign.)

-Woby

(She has a collar, I assume she had an owner on Earth before somehow coming to the constant. She seems to know Maxwell though, as she'll growl at him.)

-Pearl and Crab King (And any other crab people that might be out there.)

(Maxwell doesn't claim to have created them, and they seem to have been around for a long time.)

-Antlion

(Maxwell complains that it destroys/damages his world, and its a new reign mob.)

-Ancient guardian

(It has ancient in its name, it lives in a ruins biome, and Maxwell refers to it as a friend.)

-Rock lobsters

(All Maxwell says about them is that he banished them underground. I assume they lived on the surface at the start of his reign, though it's possible he created them on the surface, they caused some sort of issue, and then got banished.)

-All pigmen, including the Nightmare werepig.

(There are pigs in the gorge, and Maxwell says that Merms copied the pigmen. Pigmen are everywhere tbh. It's possible Maxwell created the pigmen and then the merms copied them though.)

-Bunnymen

(Maxwell states "I could have sworn I left you all underground." when examining a cozy bunnyman. It's possible they evolved and got sent underground, or they evolved underground or something, considering rabbits have been around longer than Maxwell. He might've created the bunnymen though.)

-Beefalo

(There are beefalo in the Gorge. It. might? be possible that they were created during Maxwell's reign and then some made it to the Gorge somehow. Kiel should just give us Gorge lore tbh.)

-Koalefants

(Maxwell calls them distant cousins of the beefalo, so I assume if Maxwell didn't create beefalo then Koalefants evolved naturally too, but if Maxwell did create beefalo then he probably created koalefants too.)

-All fruitflies

(They're a RoT mob.)

-Toadstoal

(It's a New Reign mob.)

Mobs that Maxwell possibly created (Mobs that Maxwell seems to know at least a little bit about, or mobs that existed during his reign) (I am. not sure about some of these.)

-Mactusk and Wee MacTusk

("Don't you recognize me?" is what he says when examining a Mactusk.)

-Slurpers

("Simple creatures. They exist only to sleep and feed." he comments on them, though he possibly just knows this through observation.)

-Tentacles

(He says that there's more to it when examining it underground, and he knows how they reproduce, but he's not the only character to know and comment on those.)

-Dragonfly

(He says "Just like old times." when examining a broodling, so it's possible he created the dragonfly and raised it. Also you should do read Maxwell's different quotes for extra adorable lavae right now. Actually here they are read them.

LAVAE_PET = { STARVING = "I think it's going to die!", HUNGRY = "It's hungry. Why is it hungry?", CONTENT = "It's happy with me, and I with it.", GENERIC = "You're not a hellbeast, are you? Nooo. Just misunderstood!", }, LAVAE_EGG = { GENERIC = "It's alive in there.", }, LAVAE_EGG_CRACKED = { COLD = "I knew I would make a terrible pa-pa.", COMFY = "I can say with pride that it is comfy and cozy.", }, LAVAE_TOOTH = "The lavae's baby tooth.",)

-Chester, Glommer, and Hutch

(I don't know about these, Maxwell doesn't claim to have created any of them but shadow Chester is tied to his shadow magic dimension and he knows that they respawn, but this could be from observation.)

Lastly,

I Don't even know (Mobs Maxwell may or may not have created. As far as I'm aware, he says nothing that confirms, denies, or implies that he created the following mobs, and nothing else in the game seems to imply one way or the other.)

(I personally think he made most of the giants but. They'll still go here.)

-Lucy the axe

(I think the ponds they come from have probably been around a while? But the mobs themselves I don't know.)

Anyways in conclusion I am going to. do something else now.

This all started because I asked what crockpot dishes an ancient could possibly make with the creatures and resources that existed at the time and here I am now.

This year (and the last few years) is about trying to reduce my physical tbr and all the books I had off my dad when we moved, and finally get round to the books I’ve been lent by friends. I’m hoping to try and half it, but I’m not convinced it��ll happen

1. The day of the triffids by John Wyndham

2. The ambassador’s mission, 3. The rogue and 4. The traitor queen by Trudi Canavan. I’ve got the first one, the other two I’ll borrow from the library to finish the series

5. American psycho by Bret Easton Ellis. Read just over half last year, want to get it over and done with

6. Men who hate women by Laura Bates. It always takes me a bit longer to physically sit and read non fiction, so this will be on the go a while longer until I finish it

'The Fantastical City Of Light'

So here we are in 2023 in a world where epidemics, price hikes, and fear of what's to come are the topics most people are concerned with while in a distant European city, there is magic to be felt and seen. Paris, France is a magnetic metropolis alive with regal history and quaint sidewalk cafes offering a unique passersby perspective. The city of light is expansive and filled with curious ideals as love is the French currency and embellished by the eloquent tone of its native language. To sum up, this city of light delivers a sermon of ancient architecture copied by worldly architects for their unique visual in the format of Art Deco - Gothic - Romanesque - Renaissance and lavishly adorned Rococo. To say the French are genius when it comes to creating is magnified in one permanent structure situated on the Champ de Mars Park ground where it holds court as an iron composition referred to as La Tour Eiffel. The magnificent imagination of Gustave Eiffel a young engineer who inspired the world with his metal God Of Wonder. And now potentially the most visited and loved monument on the planet.

A design by Napoleon Bonaparte to celebrate his numerous war victories and today a legacy of those who died in honor of France. Paris is a light in the dark as everywhere you turn the history is bright and even at night the Eiffel Tower sends light into the far reaches of the cosmos with a spectacular light show that leaves you wanting for more. Paris has the 'ooh la factor' with her cobblestone streets and bridges that hold the padlocks of hearts from every corner of the globe. This is a sanctuary in an ever-changing world where one can fall in love or forget their troubles as the city emulates eternal magic. Yes, this city is magical and a time warp of evolution as each building tells a story of life, love, and French liberty. Paris was home to royals who reigned from the Palace of Versailles until a revolution spearheaded by Napoleon saw the change to an Emperor's rule.

. It was here the Louis Kings reigned but let's not forget the influence of Queen Marie Antoinette and her fashionista influence in the world today. What makes Paris so inviting is its insatiable addictive quality of escape from the climate we are living in right now. Its European culture, history, and captivating vibes are so endearing lovers choose to marry by the Eiffel Tower. A photoshoot no doubt revered and remembered for the course of the couple's marriage. The infectious joie de vivre that motivates an aura of amore is what makes Paris a unique place on Planet Earth. And once you have experienced this vibrant French capital you will feel a haunting to return.

AO3 Stats 2023

What fanfic was the world writing in 2023? (AO3 Year In Review) - centreoftheselights - Fandom - Fandom [Archive of Our Own]

It's never going to be not weird but also it's never going to be not funny when people complain about how femslash shippers have it better or sapphic content is more popular/accepted/widespread/mainstream/(insert adjective here), and makes me think that I'm speaking to a parallel universe.

Like were you on a diet of videos from James Somerton and the like, or something, because I don't know someone can come to that conclusion.

Just look at the AO3 stats, the stats tracking goes back a decade and the only F/F ships that made it to the top 100 list at all for years were Santana/Brittany from Glee, Rose/Kanaya from Homestuck, Laura /Carmilla from Carmilla.

And then there is the unholy trinity that is Swan Queen from Once Upon A Time, Clexa from The 100 and Supercorp from the CW's Supergirl, I swear that there is going to be a study in a couple of decades about the noxious and detrimental to health effects of being involved on those ships.

It wouldn't be until 2020 that She-Ra and the Owl House gave some variety to the list, also Arcane in 2022.

That gets us to 2023, and as pathetically as it sounds and which carries over from 2022, 6 whole F/F ships in a top 100 list is the highest ever and a two-year high holding since 2022.

The 2023 stats goes:

#19 Robin Buckley/Nancy Wheeler from Stranger Things.

#22 Wednesday Addams/Enid Sinclair from Wednesday.

#23 Marlene McKinnon/Dorcas Meadowes from Harry Potter.

#25 Amity Blight/Luz Noceda from The Owl House.

#93 Sister Beatrice/Ava Silva from Warrior Nun.

#95 Mary Macdonald/Lily Evans from Harry Potter.

And there is a couple of things of funny things from that list, like the F/F ships sticking together, in top 25 for the most part, probably because they get overpowered by the other ships to claim higher.

And the Harry Potter ships are pretty much the kicker about femslash shipping, Marlene and Dorcas are very much like the guy that got hit with a bagel in Into the Spiderverse.

One of them literally only gets mentioned once and the other one has been dead for around two decades before the events of the first Harry Potter.

The other ship is giving a girlfriend to Harry Potter's mom.

As a final note, I'm happy that Warrior Nun at least finally made it to the list.

Fleet solid support ships – an important part of the naval logistic chain

The 2015 SDSR confirmed the intention to build 3 new solid stores support ships. This kind of logistic support vessel is critical to the global reach of the RN but are low profile and do not get the focus of attention given to warships. Government commitment to build the new ships is positive but entirely lacking in urgency, the first ship will probably not be ready for sea until around 2025.

By the time HMS Queen Elizabeth achieves initial operating capability in late 2020, the Royal Fleet Auxiliary will have six modern tankers able supply the carrier and other warships with fuel. In contrast, the three solid stores support ships which supply ammunition, food and spares are antiques. The 3 Fort-class vessels have served the RN well, RFA Fort Austin and Fort Rosalie were built in the late 1970s and saw action in the Falklands War. RFA Fort Victoria was commissioned in 1994 and is semi-permanently deployed in Gulf and Indian Ocean. Until the new Fleet Solid Support Ships (FSS) arrive, these hardy veterans must stagger on into the mid-2020s. The official out of service dates are 2023 for Fort Austin and 2024 for Fort Rosalie by which time they will be well over 40 years old. It is unclear when Fort Victoria will go but she is also a tanker but does not conform to current double-hull MARPOL legislation.

Main gate approval is for the FSS is expected in December 2019 with the main contract for FSS construction signed by March 2020.

The slow pace of the project to build new stores ships, opens up the possibility of yet another ‘capability gap’ during the period 2023-27. With two or less solid stores ships it may not be possible to always have one available to support the carrier.

The three ship plan is already a bare minimum, one likely to be assigned to support the carrier, one forward-based, probably in the Gulf and one in refit. In partial mitigation, an advantage of large-size of the QEC is that they can embark large stores of ammunition and food so they will be a little less reliant on the support of their RFAs than the preceding and much smaller Invincible-class. In the early years of the QEC, lack of available F-35s may mean the embarked air group may also be below its full strength and therefore require fewer stores. However in high-intensity operations, either acting in the Carrier Strike or Littoral Maneuver role, the RFA will be hard pressed to meet the carrier group’s demands or will have to rely on supply from allied auxiliaries.

Design concepts

Only early outline proposals for the FSS exist in the public domain at this stage. The FSS is a part of the MARS (Military Afloat Reach Sustainability) project that the MoD embarked on in the early 2000s to replace the ageing RFA fleet. Budget cuts have drastically reduced the scope of MARS which originally included both the FSS and a separate Combat Support Ship Auxiliary (CSS(A)) to provide additional logistic support for amphibious operations. After the brutal cuts of the 2010 defence review, the CSSA and FSS were merged and the Naval Design Partnership Team produced a new concept for a stores ship which included a vehicle deck and stern ramp. This would allow vehicles and stores to be offloaded by landing craft or by Mexefloat at sea. (This ‘steel beach’ arrangement is a simple ramp, not a fully floodable dock that is a feature of the HMS Albion/Bulwark and the Bay class RFAs). The loading ramp can only be used in very benign weather conditions but would be a very useful addition to RN amphibious and general transport capabilities.

The FSS is likely to be a large vessel with displacement in excess of 30,000 tons. A spacious vessel allows efficient movement and storage of cargo plus a large hangar and flight deck. The RN has always made good use of the extra decks provided by its auxiliaries and the FSS will be no different. Armament is likely to be 2 or 3 phalanx mounts and a couple of 30mm cannons. Such a large vessel often attracts suggestions that more sophisticated weapons be fitted. Sea Ceptor would provide much better self defence and add to the carrier group’s firepower. Fitting a bank of Tomahawk missiles or even anti ballistic missiles has been suggested. Although desirable, such weapons add considerably to cost and complexity of the build, through life costs and manning requirements. It is very unlikely FSS will have anything but a basic self-defence weapon fit.

The approximate MoD budget allocated for the three FSS is around £1bn and the priority must be to deliver an affordable ship that can efficiently provide solid stores at sea. The MoD held an industry day for companies interested in bidding for the FSS work in July 2016. The itinerary mentioned nothing about the amphibious capability. It is possible that budget limitations may not allow for a vehicle deck and stern ramp but hope remains.

Supplying the aircraft carriers

Under a £25M contract, Rolls Royce has already developed and built a prototype Heavy Replenishment at Sea rig (HRAS) that will equip the FSS. A test rig was installed and successfully trialled at training establishment HMS Raleigh between 2013-14 and has been left in place as a training aid. Capable of transferring 25 loads per hour weighing up to 5 tonnes, this system promises to be highly efficient, able to supply the carrier at sea quickly. This reduces the window of vulnerability when ships have restricted manoeuvrability as they steam in parallel for RAS. Most importantly HRAS is also capable of transferring a complete Pratt & Witney F135 engine that propels the F-35. The ability to change aircraft engines at sea is an important consideration for extended operations and there is limited space to store such large items on the carrier.

The FSS will have 2 HRAS rigs fitted on their port side which align with the QEC aircraft lift openings on their starboard side. The QEC can then receive stores straight into the hangar. Arriving on standard pallets they can be quickly struck down into magazines and store rooms using the Highly Mechanised Weapon Handling System (HMWHS). The QEC are designed to receive oil on their port side and the Tide class tankers have 2 rigs on their starboard side. Both the Tide class and FSS will have a single rig on the opposite side that can replenish other warships simultaneously with the carrier.

Build at home or abroad?

A beneficiary of retaining such an elderly RFA stores ship fleet is Cammel Laird which has been kept busy with frequent maintenance of these vessels under its ‘cluster’ contract with the MoD. A reliable workflow has allowed CL to invest and make a gradual return to new ship construction. Last year it won the prestigious contract to build the 12,790 tonne RRS Sir David Attenborough. (AKA Boaty McBoatface) Cammel Laird now appears well placed to participate in the FSS project if it can beat foreign competition.

With the completion of HMS Prince Wales there will be a significant shipbuilding capability left at Rosyth. The GMB Union and Scottish interests are already lobbying for Rosyth to be involved in FSS construction. Having recent experience of block building the carriers and a spacious facility, it would make sense. However, there are questions about the strength of the workforce as many of the BAES workers employed on the carriers will return to Glasgow to work on Type 26. The Goliath crane at Rosyth used for the assembly of the large aircraft carrier hull blocks was put up for sale some time ago and the Aircraft Carrier Alliance hopes to get £6m for it if a buyer can be found. If the Goliath crane is retained it could be very useful in constructing the large FSS.

The weaker pound and the problems with the MARS tankers built in South Korea may also strengthen the case for UK construction of FSS. £500m for the 4 Tide class tankers is great value for money but the experience has been soured by delays to the first vessel Tidespring. At the time of writing, she is on her delivery voyage and set to arrive a year later than scheduled. A corruption scandal at DSME, together with a major error during installation of electrical cabling blighted the project, although delivery of the remaining three vessels is set to follow quickly. Building RFAs abroad has also proven politically explosive with the fine line between warships and auxiliaries misunderstood and the project seen by many as a government betrayal of UK workers and industry.

Although pure speculation at this stage, a joint Cammel Laird & Babcock Rosyth consortium block-building the FSS appears to be an attractive prospect. For the Royal Navy the FSS is another important element of carrier-enabled power projection and the fleet’s continued ability to deploy globally. For the next seven years the RN must make do with old ships and hope they can be kept going until the arrival of badly needed new vessels.
