I like how Duane is shown running through multiple different avenues of focus (the distant battle, the speak of nationality, and his kiddo's doings) while Sette is stuck on just one (focusing on her doings, favouring their experiments and made uncomfortable when asked to engage with the others).

Sette doesn’t spend much time with others her age, yes? It's almost always adults with her, though the fact that she doesn’t age is a likely contributor (adults are subtler in their changes overtime whereas youths run through phases quickly). The kids her age are less filtered in their thoughts about her, refering to her not by name but by rude remarks to her physicality. Quiggles does as well but is less ongoing with his meanness about it— and frankly, his overall aloof and snide mannerisms make it stand out much less when he's rude to or about her specifically; he's rude about everyone.

(On the plat pair, I find them more fun to watch now that Matty has both spine and some authority, being recurrently insubordinate and outspoken of his displeasure when it comes to Quigely. Matty makes some efforts with Sette, at one point telling her that he can’t be friends with her if she's so hostile, and I respect that.)

WIBTA for calling out my friend for writing RPF?

I'm in a friend group of about 5. We've known eachother for 5+ years but I'm closest with Sam because I've known them the longest. What Sam doesn't know is that when we first met I was browsing through their Twitter profile when I found a link to their AO3, it was full of RPF of two celebrities they were a fan of. At the time I thought it was kinda weird but said nothing because the fics were quite old at this point and we were both stupid teens, I didn't see it as a big deal. The AO3 stayed up (I am embarrassed to say I checked up on it occasionally out of morbid curiosity or what I don't know) but Sam never mentioned these fics around me and a few months later I saw that the account had either been deleted or renamed and all of the fics had been deleted too.

This was about seven years ago. Although Sam would still talk about these celebs they liked in our group chats (and still does) they never brought up shipping them seriously and only talked about RPF as a joke. I never brought it up all this time because I thought that they'd moved on from writing and the jokes were part of that.

However recently Sam started posting about a new thing involving IRL people. As we usually do in our friend group we were being supportive, asking them questions and letting them infodump ETC. But then one of our friends made an offhand joke about there being fic of this thing out there and Sam totally clammed up. It wasn't super noticeable but they suddenly started trying to change the subject away from it. We let it go but something didn't sit right with me, maybe because I knew about their history with this stuff, later that day I decide to check out the AO3 tag for this thing and lo and behold, there is an account that started posting roughly when Sam started talking about it. Not only that but I skimmed through some of the fics and they had very specific quirks of Sam's writing style and grammar, one of the fic titles even referenced a song by their favourite artist! This was 100% Sam's alt account.

Here's where I might be the asshole. TBQH I don't care about the RPF, I think it's weird and I would never write it myself but it's harmless. But recently Sam has been... kind of an asshole to our other friends about their own interests. We poke fun at each other all the time but recently Sam has been upsetting our friend Kai by 'jokingly' calling his current hyperfixation cringy a lot to the point Kai has privately told me he feels embarrassed infodumping about it any more. Kai is the youngest in the group and I feel really protective of him, this got me really angry. I told him I'd talk to Sam and I will but I feel like what I want to say to them is too petty and over the line.

So, WIBTA if I pointed out to Sam that they have no right calling other people's interests cringe considering what they write? They don't know I know about their AO3, it would definitely be embarrassing for them but that's the point if they think it's okay to embarrass their other friends like this.

Scarian costume party?!?

They’re at this stupid costume party and Grian hates costume parties, and he was never good with dressing up, so he’s just slouched in a corner in one of his ten identical red jumpers, begging not to be asked what his costume is, whilst Scar walks in in a picture-perfect recreation of Han Solo’s costume from The Empire Strikes Back.  And not only that, he looks good. Grian is furious.

the first fandom i was ever truly a part of was for the volleyball anime haikyuu where there's twelve billion characters and most fics had every single one of them interact with all the popular ships in the background all the time and i wanted to write essentially my version of that for hermitcraft/life series. so behold: The Costume Party

BigB’s sat, legs dangling, on the island counter, covered in pale vines and painted grey, in a pretty accurate Creaking costume. He gives Grian a slightly pleading look as Scar enthuses to him about the slight differences in Han’s costume during the original trilogy, and that ‘Despite this, in the third film, when Han’s frozen in carbonite, the model from the film seems to use the A New Hope shirt as a model rather than the shirt he’s seen in in the third film- well, the sixth film, technically, but you get the point…’

this wip is hyperfixation heaven for me just imagining how all the different people would INTERACT and what what they would WEAR and what would go WRONG and who would they ARRIVE with and who would they LEAVE with... it's the stuff dreams are made of

Mumbo approaches him with That Look plastered all over his stupid face. “Jealous of the costume?” Grian scoffs. “Jealous? more like livid.” Mumbo sighs. “Relatable.” The man had a similar struggle with his own wardrobe, and, in a fit of anxiety, shaved off his whole moustache. The look itself is so unsettling that he hasn’t even needed to wear a different suit.

okay so here is where the plot divergence comes in- there are basically two different versions of this fic with different pairings as the main pairing. the most written version has scarian (that's the one above) but at that point in The Spiral i was still mostly just watching scar grian and mumbo and didn't really know who most of the other people were, which is why i abandoned the fic in the first place, vowing to RETURN once i had a stronger grasp on the characters:

little did i know that by that point i would know about gemtho (ship of the whole universe). and thus the other version of this fic was born:

etho sees gem at a party and the whole world stops spinning. in EVERY universe this man must be bowled over by her

which is what i mentioned in my redstone testing post. if i was to finish this fic i honestly think i could do a multiple POV situation with several different ships/ stories that INTERTWINE kind of like the plot in madagascar 2!! (lame reference i know but if you've watched that film you know it has the best narrative structure ever i bring it up all the damn time...)

someone tap me on my shoulder every day so i write this... this is the WORST PART of this series every time i talk about a wip i wanna finish it again!!!

I saw a comment by @easily-distracted-by-fandom that raised a couple interesting questions that I wanted to think more deeply about. So thank you very much, it has continued to feed this hyperfixation like a sourdough starter.

One of the things brought up was the whole canary in a coal mine relation to the buried and Lizzie. I do think that the Buried does also work for Jimmy, but I prefer his tie to the end a bit more.

Martyn mentioned on stream recently that Jimmy's canary curse still fits despite him not dying first all the time cause it's like the Watcher's got bored with him and wanted something new. This translates to the Eye/Watcher's getting bored and wanting something new to Behold/Watch.

Should preface that the life Series works like the eye-pocalypse where they are all trapped, but those touched by the Eye can move semi-freely. Aka, by winning, you are touched by the Beholding and can Know things in each loop where others forget. The exception to this is Scar (pre-win) and Mumbo who are Web aligned. Scar blatantly knows of the loops whereas Mumbo only subconsciously remembers. This is also why, canonically, Scar never left when he won; he didn't want to start another loop.

Lizzie's relation to Jimmy is that she's the coal miner reliant on her canary. In Secret Life, Lizzie dies first, all because the canary didn't warn her. Then in Wild Life, she dies with her canary, buried in the hole she dug into the ground. Jimmy has a greater understanding of his patron now, but the consequence is that Lizzie now has no warning, dying before or with her canary.

I also think Jimmy started with canary wings and assumed he was Vast-alligned with Scott. Unfortunately, the wings have withered slowly into rotting, boney molting wings that he hides in shame.

Context: So, I have somewhat recently become very hyperfixated on the Stans, and as one does when having a new hyperfixation: you scroll their shipping tag on Ao3. So I've read a lot of fanfics, some I've enjoyed and some not being my cup of tea. And very single time I found one I really liked. Like, deeply liked. Especially when it came to the characterization, I would happily scroll my way down to the comments to see how other people reacted. Keep in mind, I don't really pay attention to authors unless they really really intrigue me. And Every Time. Every. Time. Without fail I would see that damn clown picture Responding to the comments. Thanking everyone for reading. Being really sweet. It drove me insane. Every time I expected it to be someone different, either cause of the concept or just because I was like on page 40 of the stancest tag BOOM, it would be you. Somehow writing something that scratched such a specific itch in my brain. Or something honestly so beautiful and intriguing that I couldn't stop myself from reading. Something that always rung so true for their relationship or their adventures that it was impossible not to think of it being as close to cannon as possible. LONG STORY SHORT: I adore your stories and sometimes it feels like you're writing for me personally (though don't get it twisted I know that isn't the case.) And somehow, I always end up surprised that its you! And the fact I was able to randomly find you on Tumblr along on Ao3 sent me over the moon because it meant I could FINALLY, face to face, tell you how awesome your writing is! Thank you for creating, pllleasssse don't stop. Even if you fall out of Stancest or whatever, your genuinely really talented and I adore your concepts outside of fanfic! Just! Thank you! <:]

I made an oc who was raised by dolphins

It's quite hard to talk about him since he has a signature whistle name and not a human one

Anyways, some days ago I suddenly got hyperfixated on dolphins and this guy just popped up in my head so I had to make this oc

I also made it the most unrealistic way possible because it's completely impossible for humans to live on water

But there he is:

A joke about him having a tiktok account posting about his daily life, post a video eating a alive fish and people calling him out because of it ^

He knows a little english at least but he lives with dolphins 24/7

He has the most generic lore possible, his biological parents hated him as a baby for some reason and just threw him away at the sea to drown, but a dolphin pod found him and they all adopted him

Also he knows that his name is just impossible for other humans to pronounce but he refuses to be given a human name out of spite

Idk if I'm making sense but it's literally 3AM here so I don't care about that

UPDATE: as of this morning (7/14), their entire page has been taken down! i'm not sure if it was wattpad or something they did on their own but the stolen works are no longer posted. thank you so much everyone for boosting and supporting these authors <3 i'm leaving them linked below if anyone would like to check them out and find some new authors to follow because after this whole situation, they deserve some more readers who appreciate their hard work!
