Incoming Kyuu x OC Ramble (because I havenā€™t gotten around to writing anything on it and itā€™s driving me cazy!)
Tumblr media
Iā€™ve had this idea for a while now. Basically, Kyuu meets a cocker spaniel named Poppy and they both think the other is way out of their league but have massive crushes on each other before eventually getting together.
- So about Poppy: Kyuu either meets her sometime after the events in the manga where they both happen to work at a coffee shop OR were already kind of friends before that.
Poppy could be described as a nerd who loves books and practically lives at the library. A little shy, but sweet and cheerful.
- Kyuu is drawn to Poppy by two things. One being sheā€™s the first carnivore she ever knew who is about the same height as her (Poppy being taller by only half an inch) and doesnā€™t look down (literally) at her.
The second is Poppy knows little to nothing about Kyuuā€™s life in the Black Market and doesnā€™t treat her as a ā€˜poor little rabbitā€™ or a challenge to her strength as a carnivore because of it. When they hangout and do things together, Kyuu feels like any other young woman. Like she never stepped foot in the Black Market at all.
- She thinks Poppy is pretty and cute and finds her joy for life and books contagious, but Kyuu thinks Poppy would never fall for an ā€œuneducated, former livestock productā€ like her. She also feels insecure about her childhood and doesnā€™t want Poppy to know that side of her.
- Meanwhile, Poppy is both amazed and a little bit intimidated by Kyuu. While Kyuu does come off as blunt and sometimes clueless, Poppy admires her for her confidence and her bravery. She also loves Kyuuā€™s kickass nature and that she can fight bigger animals then her.
- Poppy teaches Kyuu how to read and Kyuu teaches Poppy how to defend herself.
- So anyways, Poppy thinks Kyuu isnā€™t interested in her because sheā€™s a dog and she thinks Kyuu might prefer someone taller than her (or could fight like she can).
- When they become girlfriends, Kyuu starts to realize that there is a life outside of the Black Market and that she doesnā€™t have to stay there if she doesnā€™t want to or be loved for her strength or for her body.
- Kyuuā€™s nickname for Poppy is ā€˜Poppyseedā€™ while Poppy calls Kyuu her ā€˜Wonder Womanā€™.
- Side Note: I have an unofficial idea where Kyuu and Poppy are married and Poppy gets pregnant via donor and they have a lop eared rabbit and cocker spaniel hybrid child together (but this is only a thought! šŸ˜…)
TLDR: An AU where Kyuu is in love with a cocker spaniel.

I don't trust people that hate Haru from Beastars because half the time they're demonizing her for a misunderstanding of her character/babying the men around her. She's one of the most complex female characters we've gotten in media and people are bent on not engaging properly with her story or her motivations.
Like the scene of her and Legoshi in season 1 happens because every guy she's ever interacted with has only ever given her something with the expectation of sexual favors in return. She's promiscuous because it's the only form of connection anyone gives her and she's come to accept that if she goes along with it, she can feel something. Even the pain is preferable to loneliness. She's not trying to force herself on him, everything she says is to reassure him and placate.
I want to also add: louis is one of the guys to treat her like this. Not one single guy in the school has any respect for her or her comfort
Legoshi removes himself because he's clearly been shown to have impulses he struggles to control, and he also doesn't know how to handle the situation. Haru doesn't chase him down and is, in fact, baffled because it's the first time someone helped her without demands following it.
In the end the scene shows us the difference in their characters and carves a moment that shapes their dynamic going forward. It's not something traumatic for Legoshi and in fact helps him begin to understand there are nuances to Haru he hadn't considered when he only viewed her as a weak victim. Meanwhile it introduces Haru to someone she can properly build a bond with beyond any immediate relationship expectation.
Haru is flawed don't get me wrong. She's chaotic and self destructive. But this insistence on hating her for something in the first episode and painting it out to be something it wasn't drives me insane.

my favorite part of fandom is that specific moment when we all collectively go, "Oh yes, now blorbo needs to open a coffee shop" followed by the infamous "and they should fall in love w shitto while they're at it"

you know in hindsight itā€™s clear a lot of the discourse around the metaphors/themes within beastars was people being unable to accept that a lot of it wasnā€™t a straight 1:1 with real life relationships but instead multiple overlapping ideas surrounding societally deemed non-normative attraction, ā€˜raceā€™ and ā€˜genderā€™ as societal constructs, and grappling with attraction and desire as an adolescent/young adult

i love melon literally so much. the spots spreading. the fact the only time he feels something is when he is being literally injured by that fuckass tattooist. the way he manhandles legoshi. his fruity swag. the fact he is fully a hybrid between a predator (cheetah) and one of its main sources of prey (gazelle). how lithe and agile he is. HOW INSANE HE IS. i need him carnally.

HIII can we have more info on the beastars au?? more specifically like j and tessa and how the entire manor era went down ^_^ i love all of your aus & your writing and art is phenomenal!!!!
Thank you!! And sure, I don't have all written out or planned yet but I got some lore in mind :]
Tessa is similar to how she lives in the OG canon - she has a very rich family that is entangled with the Horns Conglomerate which is in the hands of Rui and his dad (since Tessa's family is also made up from deers/cervidae).
She's a little spoiled, but good-natured and is fairly convinced that herbivores and carnivores could live in peace, a social stance her parents do not share.
Both Louisa and James are very pretentious, rich assholes that hate Carnivores or even hybrids with a burning passion (but this isn't about them /lh).
Jane also comes from a well off family, and while not rich-rich, they're doing well money-wise. She's close friends (and love interest) with Tessa due to them running in similar circles.
I imagined her personality to be very snobby and stuck-up, only letting Tessa close emotionally. Deep down, she's battling some self esteem issues, but that doesn't take away from the fact that she is indeed quite horrible around people she doesnt like or respect. She's pushing people away and fears being killed a lot. It's one of her worst fears next to losing Tessa.
For the Gala incident, I wouldn't really call it "the Gala incident" and more like "many small incidents that lead to bigger outcomes over time" since Cyn in this AU is a hybrid and all her motivations are her own (the Solver is a drug sold to Carnivores in the AU) - so she pesters and bullies Tessa and Jane for their involvement with the Horn Conglomerate and their attitude towards Carnivores (since Cyn is a grey wold hybrid).
She has her eyes set on especially Tessa because she's the daughter of the main investors into Horn, to a kind of obssessive point (referencing the fact how in the OG canon Cyn takes on Tessas looks and all) - constantly teasing her about how easy it is to just devour her and no one could do anything about it, since Cyn's family is also quite rich and powerful on their side of the city and in both groups (Carnivores and Herbivores).
Won't spoil how this all goes down in the climax/the eventual outcome of the whole ordeal, but it's not nice. Especially not for Tessa and Jane. >_>
A lot of the AU is following the canon Beastars storyline, just shifting some stuff around or playing in their own secluded "areas" instead of going along with the timeline of events for the main story.
As for the other characters, a lot of them retain their OG personality or job. Uzi, N and V are also students in the Academy - V is a cat, N is a dog and Uzi is a Bat (similar to the Furry!AU lol)
Nori was meant to be sold on the black market, having been Number 2, but she was able to flee before being purchased, essentially growing up between jobs and living on the streets until she was old enough to work a fulltime job where she met Khan.
Uzi, N and V eventually catch wind of the stuff happening with Cyn and the way she behaves around herbivores, following the trail to the "Absolute Solution" drug being produced and its effects.

The show that changed my life forever? Bojack Horseman
Tumblr media
This show changed how I feel and write redemption stories. Itā€™s my favorite thing to write about and include in my fanfics, but Bojack Horsemanā€™s final season challenged how I approach it.
Whereas before I would have focused more on the reasons for how and why a villain gets redeemed, I now find myself considering the crimes and evil things they did as villains and how that damage will never really go away. Especially if it involves:
- Abuse or torture (of any kind)
- Lying, manipulating, and gaslighting
- Deliberately causing or contributing to the death of one or more person(s)
Let me be clear here, I love villain characters. I just find them interesting and complex, and thatā€™s largely a credit to how they are portrayed in movies, tv shows, and stuff. There are tons of villainous characters I would love to see do better, put all their demons behind them and live happier lives but I also think it would be a mistake to not include or acknowledge the harm they have caused (assuming of course if the fanfic takes place after they did said actions or even follows canon at all).
Hereā€™s a brief list of villains to give yā€™all an idea:
- Megatron and Starscream (Transformers)
- Koba, Red, Winter, Sylva, Lightning, and Preacher (Reboot Planet of the Apes)
- Tai Lung and Lord Shen (Kung Fu Panda)
- Drago Bludvist (How To Train Your Dragon)
- Lord Voldemort (Harry Potter)
- General Woundwort (Watership Down)
- Steele (Balto)
- Melon and Yahya (Beastars)
- Cluny the Scourge, Vitch, Slagar the Cruel, and Badrang the Tyrant (Redwall)
The thing is, Bojack Horsemanā€™s last season showed that while a person may have moved on, may truly want to change, and have people supporting them, the things they have done are not necessarily all forgivable. Sure, some things might be forgiven or even understandable depending on the circumstances or reasoning but not everything is.
Most if not all of the villains I just listed have killed people, abused, tortured, enslaved or assisted in the abuse, torture, and enslavement of others, or are total tyrants who crave power and control over other people. If and when I write a redemption story for any of them is now a question of ā€˜how would it workā€™ and ā€˜If they had a chance at redemption, would they actually take it and be serious about it?ā€™.
And how would the people they have hurt feel about it? Thereā€™s just so many layers to it that doesnā€™t necessarily be part of a fanfic-assuming canon divergence there-but if it does follow canon it feels weird to not acknowledge it or include it in the villainā€™s redemption story.

Death stranding exists in the beastars universe, meaning hideo kojima exists in the beastars universe, meaning the events that led to kojima making death stranding happened in the beastars universe, meaning metal gear solid not only exists in the beastars universe but is just as popular and influential as it is irl.
This begs two questions: what animal is hideo kojima, and what is solid snake's canonical fursona

My Issue with The Infamous Louis Panel
Tumblr media
I think yā€™all know exactly what Iā€™m talking about so let me just dive into it.
Aside from Louis being a total hypocrite and being involved with the very livestock business HE came from, this panel had the potential to completely change Louisā€™ character and (possibly) his influence on the Beastars plot but this panel is NEVER mentioned again. You could cut it from the entire plot and it literally wouldnā€™t impact the story whatsoever.
So next to it making Louis no better than the carnivores that sold him as livestock (or pretty much exactly like them!), itā€™s probably the most uselessness panel in the entire manga! (Or one of the top ten worst plot points from the story, whatever you wanna call it)
That all being said, hereā€™s how I approach it in my fanficsā€¦Completely ignore it! I acknowledge and include Louis being involved in and witnessing some illegal stuff while boss of the Shishigumi, but just the drug and meat dealing/eating and cannibalism on his part.
Now, hereā€™s what I think SHOULD have happened with this panel:
Have an entire chapter dedicated to it and it showing Louisā€™ shock and horror that the livestock business is somehow still active, demand the immediate release of the poor kids in it, and then use his status as the Shishigumiā€™s boss to find out how he ended up being sold as livestock and where his birth parents are.
OR! This but Louis has time to really think about it and weigh his options: Chose his own survival and truly become a predator animal, just like carnivores or try to save those children and risk his own life in doing so (I was convinced the Shishigumi would kill him if he attempted something like that when I first read the manga and I could see a similar situation happening here too-albeit maybe it would have been whoever runs the livestock trade or itā€™s customers).
Side thought: If Louis were forced into it (meaning he didnā€™t want to be part of the livestock trade and tried to have it shit down but was told he could be killed/eaten if he didnā€™t), he could have had a total identity crisis and feeling immense guilt and (possibly) a real bonding moment where members of the Shishigumi try to comfort him and reveal that this is what life in the Black Market is truly like: That everyone is prey that can be killed and eaten at any time. A place to kill or be killed.
In either scenario, Louis would be forced to re-think his entire belief system and previous convictions about what it means to be predator and prey animals and which side heā€™s on. This could have also been a chance for him to truly come to terms with his past and find closure for what had happened to him, which arguably could have been just as impactful (if not more so) than Louis meeting Ibuki and the Shishigumi.
TLDR: That panel of Louis selling kids as livestock is completely useless and is a terrible missed opportunity for character growth and serious angst.
