"Two Beauties-Striped Bass," Border Cities Star. April 10, 1934. Page 17. --- 0RGANIZATIONS interested in the annual striped bass carnival at McNear's Beach, Marin County, Calif., must figure that even "stripers," generally chary of human companionship at the end of a fishing line, are looking forward to the event, for they are staging a fishermaid contest. Here are two of the entries, who have been preparing for the event, Miss Marie Regalia, left, and Miss Jean Bucknum.

Is It Safe to Swim in Florida Keys with Sharks?
The Florida Keys, with their stunning coral reefs and clear waters, beckon water enthusiasts and beachgoers alike. One common concern for those planning a dip in these picturesque waters is the presence of sharks. The good news is that, generally, it is safe to swim in the Florida Keys even with sharks sharing the same environment.
The diverse marine life in the Keys includes several shark species, but incidents involving sharks and humans are extremely rare. The local authorities and businesses prioritize safety, and measures are in place to minimize any potential risks. Visitors are encouraged to follow guidelines, such as avoiding swimming near schools of fish, not wearing shiny jewelry, and refraining from swimming with open wounds.
Shark encounters, if they happen, are often brief and due to the sharks' natural curiosity. Understanding and respecting the marine environment play crucial roles in ensuring a safe and enjoyable swimming experience in the Florida Keys. So, dive in, explore the underwater wonders, and savor the beauty of this tropical paradise.

"CROWDS FLOCK TO BEACHES AS KING SOL TURNS ON THE HEAT," Toronto Star. June 5, 1934. Page 3. ---- If that would-be scientist friend of yours tells you that sand isn't magnetic, don't argue with him. Just bundle him off in your car, trot him along in a street-car, or prod him along on "shank's mare" to any one of Toronto's beaches to-day. When you get him there you'll convince him that Old King Sol turns on the high-power heat waves the sand of the beaches has more drawing power than all the magnates in Toronto. The Star's cameramen tried it yesterday, and above you see the results. (1) a laddie in serious mood trying to figure a way out of his sand pile at Simcoe Park. (2) a section of the crowd from the life-saving station at the same beach. In (3) Jeannette Wagner gives Old King Sol the glad eye at Balmy Beach.
