The Wednesday Play: Stand Up, Nigel Barton (BBC, 1965)
"Everyone's gone to the moon."
"That's this place, all right."
"Some moon."
"Bright and shiny when you're a long way off; cold and rains hard when you get there."
"Who said that?"
"I did!"
"You mean you actually talk like that? It doesn't sound right with your accent."

remnant society and general ramblings from me
@weatherman667 @howlingday @heliosthegriffin @thatorigamiguy
there are two differnet types of aura users, huntsmen who are considered tradesmen. they specifically take on grimm and only grimm though on occasion fight criminals due to the nature of bandits.
they have very simple ranks
apprentice: fresh out of huntsman accadamies these newbies hang around certain towns and cities taking on low level grimm until they build up enough experience and cash to buy all their own gear and pay off their debt to the guild they apprenticed under once their able to care for themselves they are ranked up
journeymen: a journeyman hunter travels between different guild halls taking on upper level grimm, sometimes this is done with a specific group backing them up but mainly a journeyman relys on the guild to back them up and provide lodging and info in new areas. apprentices are mainly the ones providing the info to them.
master: a huntsman who has grown old enough to settle down. these huntsmen become teachers in huntsman academies and guild masters making sure the apprentices and journeymen stay alive longer.
on the other side you have nobels, these are land owners who provide safety to those who rent from them in exchange for material goods and money. their standing is based on how much land they control and how many lesser nobels are under them.
knight: these nobels are the lowest level of land owner. most of their money comes not from their rents but rather from their pay as they work to protect the lands of those nobels over them. typically they own their own home stead and possibly the village that works their fields.
barron: these nobels own a city or castle. often with a mill. their money comes from not only rents but also from people paying to use their mills to turn grain to flower or for use of their storage areas to act as food banks ensuring a random grimm attack doesn't destroy all their stores for winter. they will sometimes hire knights in the surrounding area but mainly are just richer knights still expected to protect their own area from grimm and bandits alike personally
count: these nobles occupy the county capital and receive payments from many villages cities and towns. these are the guys who tend to hire most knights and dispatch them to handle problems throughout their realms. this is the first level of noble who will also receive taxes rather than rent sometimes too. as they receive payment from the barrons under them.
duke: a powerful figure, in charge of many counts, almost all of their money comes from taxes rather than rents. but their seats of power attract larger industries. they tend to hire huntsmen to handle grimm at this point and use their knights to handle criminals in their territories. they are a military leader rather than a government though and most of the actual legislation tends to fall to their councils rather than their own personal whims
there are no longer royal ranks in the modern remnant, most of the military leadership at this level is nonexistent. and the dukes are held in check by the guilds and other dukes preventing anyone from usurping the council. at least in Vale. In Atlas they have an actual military. and vaccuo is mainly divided up by various desert clans.
jaune is a member of house Arc a house that has spread far and wide and mainly expands via handing off territory to other members of the house rather than personally trying to hold greater and greater territory. as a knight and a newly minted one at that he's made waves by entering into a huntsman academy for further training. putting his homestead into a regency until he graduates. this is a problem as he's next in line for a ducal title and if he manages to get some of the guild masters on side he'll be able to make a play to become king. he of course isn't planning on doing this and mainly just wanted to travel and go on quests to fight grimm.
ruby is the daughter of two master huntsmen tai-yang xiao long and summer rose. summer is the master of the local guild and tai passed away when they were attacked by a ancient grimm that some locals managed to awaken and piss off. while she's still in the academy and not considered a huntsman yet she is the closest thing to a princess that the guilds have.
pyrrha is a knight recently hired by the arc family to act as a retainer for their son jaune, alongside nora and ren. she might be planning to sleep with her new master and by might I mean defiantly.
weiss is still an heiress for the sdc but being the daughter of a former duke is what really marks her. she's expected to somehow marry up since her older sister has abandoned the house for military service under Ironwood. this is a problem because the only eligible bachelor is jaune and she can't seem to get him to negotiate with her about a future marriage (he keeps trying to court her but she doesn't get that)
blake and yang are both from tribal societies and have come to vale to learn more about fighting grimm. they could go either huntsman or noble depending on how they developed their lands. blake is from Menagerie and yang from the branwen tribe.
yang loves her baby sister, even if she only got to visit half the year since her mother insisted she learn the ways of leadership for their tribe.
basically rwby but I tried to make a society that would reflect the overwhelming social power of aura users and their utter necessity in remnant society
thoughts? any changes you would make?

"Brothers" (1977) is a biographical drama loosely based on the 1970-71 relationship of Angela Davis, George Jackson, and his brother Jonathan Jackson. Arthur Barron directed, and Edward and Mildred Lewis wrote the film produced by Warner Bros. The movie stars Bernie Casey, Vonetta McGee, Ron O'Neal, John Lehne, and Renny Roker. Taj Mahal is responsible for the soundtrack, an underrated classic from the blaxploitation era.
George Jackson was serving an indeterminate sentence for a gas station robbery in 1961. While in prison, Jackson became an activist and co-founded the Black Guerrilla Family. In 1970, Jackson, along with two other Soledad Brothers, was charged with the murder of correctional officer John Vincent Mills in the aftermath of a prison fight.
The movie addresses the complexity of Jackson's character and his activism to fight the corruption and racism in the prison system. Bernie Casey performed excellently as the lead, and Ron O'Neal was a welcoming supporting character. Vonetta McGee's screen presence is exquisite as she represents Davis' fictional character well.
Director: Arthur Barron Writers: Edward Lewis, Mildred Lewis
Starring Bernie Casey, Vonetta McGee, Ron O'Neal, John Lehne, Stu Gilliam, Renny Roke, Owen Pace, Dwan Smith, Martin St. Judge, Ricardo Brown, Susan Barrister
Storyline After being convicted of a robbery he didn't commit, David Thomas (Bernie Casey) serves an indeterminate sentence in a prison where corrupt guards and racism run amok. When guards murder his cellmate, Thomas turns to activism with the help of Paula Jones (Vonetta McGee) for prison reform. The film is loosely based on the 1970-71 relationship of Angela Davis, George Jackson, and his brother Jonathan Jackson.
Available on VHS and streaming services.

Lois Jean Barron White (born March 21, 1938) was the first African American President of the National PTA. She was born in Nashville. She was raised by her grandmother, Rosa Barron. Her grandmother taught her the value of taking responsibility for her life and focusing on doing the “right thing.” These life lessons resonated with her and helped to shape her professional decisions.
She became interested in music as a child and studied piano before switching to the flute. She was very talented and was considered by some a child prodigy. When the Nashville youth orchestra rejected her because of her race, the New York Herald Tribune reported the story and arranged for her to play with the New York City Youth Orchestra.
She earned a BA in Music at Fisk University and received training at Indiana University. She then taught music at Mills College (1960-62) and while there met her future husband, George White. She became a member of the Community Orchestra of Atlanta. She and her family moved to Knoxville, where she joined the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra and was a principal flutist. She retired in 1991 after 24 years with the orchestra.
She became involved with the PTA in Knoxville for the benefit of her son. She was voted a representative to the PTA Council, which served as a link between the local and state chapters. She was asked to serve as cultural arts chairperson for the Tennessee PTA after her Council’s exhibit attracted considerable attention at the Tennessee State PTA Convention in Tennessee. She was asked to collaborate with other state chairs on similar projects for the next national convention.
She became the first African American elected Tennessee State PTA President. She was elected president of the National PTA. She worked to address the problems of urban families, a population neglected by PTA efforts. The PTA developed programs that encouraged inner-city children to remain in school and succeed. She led the effort to bring PTA to inner-city neighborhoods in New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, and other major cities where the organization had not existed. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence #womenhistorymonth

I had fun reading genshin books and I decided to write some notes with "what the hell Alice (Klee's mother) had been doing" using the Teyvat Travel guide!
Mentions of: Kaeya, Venti, Jean, Kujou Sara, Kamisato Ayaka, Amber, Zhongli, Xiao, Vennessa, Yae Miko & Yoimiya
Alice has an Idea to build a huge spinning ball shaped cell in the center of the valley in Dadaupa Gorge and throw all the hilichurls into it. And she wants to feed the old and weak ones to the strong ones to generate energy to power the mills in Mond.
She thinks Venti is a bit too undisciplined. She wants to blow up Starsnatch cliff to flatten the terrain and thinks that would make mond much looks nicer. But Kaeya rejected her proposal and told her to stay away from the place.
Alice thought Vennessa was ascended to Celestia by a launching device. She even tried to send hilichurls to put to a test, but the longest flying distance was from Windrise to hunters' huts around Springvale, she was disappointed with the result. Due to the unsuccessful experiment, Jean sent Amber to keep tabs on her.
She tried to offer a more "nicer" effect with Amber's Barron bunny, Alice thought that if she worked on Amber's explosive toy, it could blow up the whole forest (Whispering Woods). Amber was scared of her offer. Still, she thinks that an explosive stuffed toy is a good idea and must try it out next time.
On Brightcrown Canyon, she tried to put Hilichurls inside the ruin guard to control it but failed, the Ruin guard got split into pieces and for the fate of the hilichurl that was strapped onto it, she didn't gave the full details since it was too gory.
She blew up some arcades in Stormterror's lair so people can climb up the tower more easily, and she thinks it looks good and feels more ancient.
During Alice's travel in Liyue, She saw Xiao in Wangshu Inn and thinks that he's a weirdo.
She thought that the foxes in Guili Plains gives a fruity aroma when roasted because the Liyue locals complain that they keep eating their fruit offerings to the Geo Archon.
The guard that was suffering from stutters on the checkpoint on the main road was cured by Alice but the potion she made had a minor side effect, making him imitate everyone he come across with.
Alice wonders if all the water was drawn out in Jueyun Karst, perhaps it would find itself back on the ocean floor where it belongs. Alice was Zhongli's travel companion, she thought he's the sternest person she knows, but he seems most entertained by the theory that he won't stop laughing.
When she was collecting shells in Yaoguang Shoal, she made a necklace but it was crushed by the fisherman from the inn by sitting on it, He got injured from the shards of broken shell, Alice had to pay his medical bills as well.
She saw the giant conch shell and thought that repurposing the giant shell as a self-propelled boat would make it much easier for the old lady to rescue people from the sea. But after she lost control of the third prototype seashell-boat and it blew up, the old lady decided that she was not going to rescue Alice from the sea anymore.
She calls Yae Miko "Little Yae", meeting her again, she was ashamed that she can't make her cry easily as she used to anymore.
She hang out with Yoimiya and was about to help her improve some of the gadgets but a grumpy general (I don't know who it is, she did not state them) kept a close eye on them.
She injured Sara's left wing when preparing a medicine that would allow for flight in the imperial Kitchen, Sara was avoiding her ever since.
Alice also offered an idol group invitation six times to Ayaka.
