I… don’t really see myself continuing with the Amazing Digital Circus anymore.

I love that it has girls that are weird in not that condescending modern writing kind of way #the last episode just confused me. it felt purposefully aimless and then the last 3 minutes suddenly it was about Gangle wanting to be like #but… has anyone explictely shown any dislike for her other than Jax? everyone seems very friendly with her #I feel like it would have made more sense if Gangle felt mistreated or neglected #because a lot of terrible shit does happen to her (specifically from Jax) and nobody intervenes #whatever. I’m happy that other people are enjoying the episode though. I’m just not feeling this show anymore

love that nobody can function without echo in the empire era. the batch keeps losing the ship, barely manage to finish their missions, and entirely forgo strategy. and then on the other hand, rex pre-echo-joining-the-rebellion was living in an abandoned garage with one singular tiny ship. then shortly after echo joins they have a whole base with like twenty troopers and real doors and actual food and a ship actually designed for long distance travel.

Thinking about how Bodies (2023) uses "representation" in such an intentional way. Every one of the four protagonists has an aspect about them which heavily affects how they relate to the era they live in. And how all four of them are police despite or even because of that.

Hillinghead. Gay in the Victorian era. He's defensive enough about it that he actively tries to arrest Henry when he finds incriminating photographs that display Henry's own sexuality. Hillinghead can't afford to let anything like that slip because what if it reflects back on him? Reflects back on his family, who he does care for dearly. He joined the police to hide and he plays the part for years until he realises what he may have missed out on.

Karl. Jewish in the 1940s. Changes the name he goes by to a name that sounds more stereotypically English, not because it's something he wants to be called, but so that he blends in. He hasn't been to the synagogue in years but he still knows where it is and he still returns there when he's not sure where else he can go. He's personable, but ultimately, not particularly trusting. And yet, he bonds with Esther almost immediately - a shared background goes a long way.

Shahara. Muslim in the 2020s. Is heavily aware of how race and perceived religion make a situation more dangerous when the police are involved. Is strong-armed by superiors into trying to approach Muslim witnesses because "only she is in the position to" and they know that she ultimately wants to help. She can't afford to refuse when she knows the consequences if she doesn't.

Iris. Disabled in the 2050s. This is a time where it's implied the world has largely left aside conflict relating to sexuality or religion. But despite mobility aids being available in her time, they're only available to those who "contribute". She has internalised the idea that she must sacrifice her autonomy to the state in order to live a life similar to an abled person, and that she must be thankful for this opportunity. Her brother had the same choice as her though, and he chose differently.

#I sincerely doubt this is a particularly original take because the show itself seems pretty intentional about it and I'm several months late #but eh I wanted to get my own thoughts before I went to go see what everyone else thought #bodies #bodies 2023 #kinda also wanted to go into their chara arcs more but thought I'd keep this fairly non-spoilery #oh. and also like. this show is the opposite of copaganda. I kinda wish 2020s and 2050s were able to go more into it but #the prevalence of the surveillance state was so easily felt in both of those times. sth sth london one of the most surveilled cities #bodies netflix #(I have no idea what tag to use for this series sorry)

#tonight my mother sat me down at the table and asked me about a friend of mine #this friend is openly a lesbian and my parents know her well because we go spend vacations in the same place #but she lives in switzerland and i don't see her often #and my mom asked me out of the blue if i texted her often in a very suspect way and so i told her that we do in fact text pretty often #because like my parents know her she always bring us chocolate and dog treats for my dog and they never seemed to have issues with that #and she was “what did she say to you?” and at first i was confused and also scared AF #in a 100% serious voice like “if something happened would you tell me?”#and like what the fuck realllg #i eventually understood she was hinting at me buying “men's” clothing in the last year or so #and this friend of mine is very masculine presenting and does the same and i tried to explain my choices had nothing to do with her #but my mother was like “i mean you never did anything like this in the past idk why would you start now” and wanted to show me a picture #of like my twelve years old me wearing a dress???#and then she was like “i think you should stop interacting so much with her because it's not a healthy company for you” like-#what the fuck was that #the whole conversation #scared fbe shit out of me because this is my “i'm not homophobic and i'm in fact very accepting of everyone” mother

its important to go see a low stakes concert sometimes

#as in seeing someone in concert youre not an absolute nutbag about (as i have done this year and last year)#but last night me n my dad went and saw renaissance on their farewell tour #running on like 4 hours of sleep and seething to be at work right now #or rather i would be seething if i weren't so tired #new anger management hack: just get less sleep so your senses are dulled! anyway #funniest part of the night was the multiples times when my dad who is old was like 'everyone here is so old :/'#he was literally like 'if i ever get like these people just shoot me' LMAO #the concert was good i wouldn't call it like great or fantastic but such is the beauty of a low stakes concert #youre not living and dying on every song youre not singing along to everything youre just. enjoyin the show normally which is crazy #again as someone who has seen two bands (both bands two separate times and is seeing one of those bands a THIRD TIME soon) im crazy over #that experience is fun its bonkers and you definitely gotta do it for the bands youre crazy over. you gotta #but it was nice to just. have a regular time at a show #as far as the show itself there were a few little moments where things didnt go as smooth but that may have been bc it was the first show #and save for a few moments in some songs annie haslam knocked it out of the park she can still sing as insanely good as she used to #again some parts of songs were in a lower key? but most seemed to be the same and she was still hitting those bonkers high notes #so good for her. the band was pretty good but i felt they really only like all worked together well on a few songs #if that makes sense. but overall pretty good #and my anxieties about getting there and back were unfounded bc somehow it all worked. yay #our car service trip home was in a tesla i felt like i was gonna die the entire ride home lol #i am NEVER getting in one of those stupid cars again. big ass ipad as your dashboard this is insane???? im so scared???#anywho. old musicians are forever as ive been saying lately. and they really are #oh also we were at the town hall which is a nice small theater i was worried abt bein too far away but it's laid out really well #in that you're sure to get a pretty good view of the stage #it seems like half the size roughly of the beacon for whatever thats worth #OH i did see one dude somewhere in the audience with a sparks shirt so. hashtag represent #yet another concert report. yayyyyy #(im so tired)

workin on my first scum villain fic!!

#i'm adding a third transmigrator into the mix #she's 25 and reads pidw for the female characters (she's ace but some of the wives are actually pretty well developed #and the ones who aren't are still interesting to her) and also to get inspiration for her own writing #bc so many pidw plots get half-developed and then left in the dust because of the sex that always has to happen #she wants to explore the implications of like. an object that shows your ''true self'' and what that means #or what if binghe and that wife actually fought the beast together instead of having the wife hang back. she's a cultivator she can fight!#she's the most prolific fanfic writer on the pidw forums but no one reads her stuff bc it's all gen fic of the wives hanging out #or making non-romantic bonds with binghe and exploring his character and how his trauma affected him #anyway she gets transmigrated into the scum villain version of ming fan about a month after shen yuan shows up #and she's VERY confused about why shen qingqiu seems extremely... different from the novel #she's also trying to survive (much like sqq) bc she knows ming fan dies a horrible death and she wants to avoid that if at all possible #while also wanting to make friends with the wives on cang qiong like liu mingyan (probably her favorite) and ning yingying #AND trying to survive being a 25 year old woman in a 16 year old boy's body #and since binghe is obsessed with shizun now... let's just say there's a new man (woman?) in town and ming fan is suddenly really nice #and genuinely seems to want to be friends with all those girls. crushes abound #she's aroace and really confused because girls keep throwing themselves at her feet. she just wanted to be friends!#sqq has his harem of men. ming fan has her harem of women. neither of them is even aware that they HAVE a harem #and if they were they would simply try and let everyone down gently #ming fan shijie

#its been a long day... but im feeling better now. (thanks for the well wishes and such btw <3-)#(-sending my well wishes in return by tenfold bcs. damn. it seems stuff is really going around rn)#but yeah... just. augh. theres just smth about how the scavs sorta translate into more like. thriller-esque genres pretty well?#like. i feel somehow those themes compliment their characteristics? or could compliment their characteristics in a more rounded out way #sure. theyre generally a light hearted romp of absurdity with occasional themes of a not good not bad handling of 'mental health matters'#but they just really shine a bit in horrific circumstances. esp with the sort of absurdity they bring to the table #theyre odd people. even in the context of their generally weird and alien universe. and that right there feels like a trove of potential #its like. ok. the lost light crew? also odd. but thats a huge ship. full of people and variety and a sense of purpose and normalcy post-war #(normalcy being. whatever all those background folks were getting up too while plot happened around them. cruise ship stuff ig)#but in contrast. with the w.a.p crew. its an ark class ship with like. a handful of people. and a whole lot of junk and free time #both just cruising through space endlessly for years. one with hundreds of people. and one with like 6 people.#so both are technically isolated when theyre not making pit-stops planet or station side. but again. 100s vs 6 dudes.#think. top of the line cruise ship from hell with a small town sized populace vs a big shitty boat and 6 starving guys #both have the capacity to become case studies in madness. both could do really well thriller wise. but the scavs being a smaller group?#it only being the 6 of them emphasis the isolation perhaps. less variety. less change. same 6 people for 5(?) years #things could get weird fast. codependent mentalities. us vs them mindsets. an otherness about everyone else outside of their group #and then! then you add to the mix the fact that theyre eating/drinking from corpses?! *chefs kiss* awesome. love it.#non-stationary isolation + cannibalism. ough. perfect mix. a classic of maritime horror but in space! :D!#a big ship. small crew. living while knowing that as soon as you kick the bucket. your body is the meal. your body is the fuel.#no decorum about it. no faith. no belief. just perverse survival. bcs they might enjoy it. a bloody gluttony. with a bite. a sample. a taste #it takes seeing your buddy as a walking talking burger to another level. bcs every corpse you come across is also a burger. and a gas can #also fulcrum making candy out of corpses is so. particularly perfect when it comes to the horrifically absurd. just. smth about it. idk #but also also. the line. where was the line drawn for each of them? and when did they each cross it?#most of them dont seem like the type to jump head first into that. so how did they justify it to themselves? had they done it before?#and then. when did it become normal? a habit? smth enjoyable?#i might be running out of tags. but yeah. them being weirder. esp about each other and others.#nothing brings a group of people together like the overhanging knowledge that you sort of kinda wanna eat each other #(rlly wishing i could stomach realistic thrillers rn. but i just cant. gotta stick to written or artistic styles or risk panic attacks :/)#(ive tried a couple movies and shows now. and cant get through most of them. praise be synopses and peoples long rambles about them tho :D)#(nothing like reading someones passionate ramble about the meaning/symbolism of some gory nightmare without having to actually see it lol)
