Frustrated by what he argues is a lack of support by President Biden's administration, Republican Gov. Chris Sununu of New Hampshire is taking matters into his own hands to help secure his state's northern border with Canada.
Sununu announced on Thursday that he'll use $1.4 million in funding from New Hampshire's current budget to boost tenfold patrols by state and local law enforcement along the 58-mile border.
While acknowledging that the deteriorating situation along America's northern border is overshadowed by the crisis along the southern border with Mexico, the governor emphasized that "there have been more apprehensions along our northern border in just this past year than in the last ten years combined."
"Encounters with individuals on the terrorist watch list at the ports of entry on the northern border have doubled since 2017," Sununu highlighted.
AMERICA'S NORTHERN BORDER SEES A MIGRANT SURGE
And he "warned that "there’s national security implications to securing the northern border that are becoming more and more obvious every day."
Sununu, accompanied by state attorney general John Formella and state law enforcement leaders, said that "it is made very clear to us" by those on the front lines along the border "that we do need more targeted resources. We need to provide an all hands-on-deck approach."
The governor and Formella announced the creation of the Northern Border Alliance Task Force. They said the partnership between state, county and local law enforcement, and forest rangers and Fish and Game officers, will increase border patrol hours from roughly 55 per month to a total of 10,000 hours in the next 18 months.
BIDEN ANNOUNCES NEW NORTHERN BORDER DEAL, FENTANYL COALITION WITH CANADA AS IMMIGRATION CRISIS RAGES
Sununu, a vocal critic of the Biden administration, took aim at Washington.
"We asked the federal government for help. We’ve been denied," he charged.  "There’s nothing that’s come from the federal government. No additional efforts out of the federal government."
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, a former governor and the senior member of New Hampshire's all Democratic congressional delegation, visited the border last month on a fact finding trip.
The senator pledged to address the problems at the border and to provide more funding. And Shaheen and her office criticized Sununu.
"Time and time again, the Governor has neglected to fully utilize the money our delegation has provided New Hampshire," Shaheen press secretary Ty McEachern told IndepthNH.org.
And Sebastian Fuentes, political director for Rights & Democracy NH and an immigrant rights activist, reacting to the announcement, told the New Hampshire Bulletin that the focus on illegal border crossings was a "manufactured crisis" and "political stunt."
Sununu vehemently disagreed.
"I laugh at anyone who tries to criticize us when we’re the only ones actually doing anything and taking the issue seriously," he charged.
Across the entire northern border - from Maine to Washington State - there were 7,633 encounters until the end of July this fiscal year, compared to 2,238 for all of FY 2022 and 916 in all of FY 2021.
While soaring, the figures are eclipsed by the enormous numbers at the southern border, where there are typically more than 200,000 encounters a month. However, it still forms a considerable challenge for the smaller staffed areas along the northern border.

Marvel Star Charlie Cox Took Massive Pay Cut to Work With Snyderverse Legend Ciaran Hinds: “It’s definitely in my top 5 experiences”
by Shazmeen Navrange  March 31, 2023 (X)
Tumblr media
Many actors take the risk to work for less pay just to reflect the best experience in their acting resumes. Well, Charlie Cox is one such actor, who doesn’t regret doing a film with the Snyderverse legend even with a pay cut. Cox is popularly known for his role as Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He starred in the marvel series for almost four years and did three seasons. The show was then canceled for another season due to the rights issues between Disney+ and Netflix.
Charlie Cox will be returning to MCU with a stand-alone series of his own named Daredevil: Born Again. Apart from his franchise work, he has also been a part of films like The Merchant of Venice, Legacy, Eat Locals, The Maiden’s Conspiracy, Hello Carter, and others.
Why Charlie Cox Took The Pay Cut?
Tumblr media
Ciaran Hinds is considered one of the most well-known actors in the industry. He has also been a part of DCEU and played the role of the supervillain named Steppenwolf. His character was a part of the 2017 Justice League as well as the Snyder Cut of 2021. He has been a beloved villain of the DCEU and who wouldn’t take a chance to work with him? That’s the reason Charlie Cox took this opportunity and was ready to work even with a pay cut. Apart from Hinds’ work in the DCEU, he has been associated with big films like Harry Potter and The Death Hallows: Part 2, Ghost Rider, Munic, Persuasion, and many others.
Tumblr media
Charlie Cox played the lead role of Michael Kinsella whereas Hinds’ had the supporting role of Eamon Cunningham in the Kin series. The Stardust actor didn’t regret his decision as he thinks it was one of the top experiences of his overall career.
“Oh Yes. Yes I did. But it’s definitely in my top five experiences of all time. I thought I was doing a small low budget gritty series. I never thought we would have some of the other actors we got like Aidan Gillen, Maria Doyle Kennedy, and Ciaran Hinds, etc. A lot of those guys can demand very high paychecks on American jobs. The fact that they wanted to do this says a lot about them. Putting all of us together led to an amazing dynamic.”
Ciaran Hinds has also won the award for Best Supporting role in the series at Irish Film & Television awards. The show was worth Charlie Cox’s experience and also was a delight to the Irish Audience. The team did an incredible job in creating something so great on a tight budget. There are in total eight episodes in season one. The show was also renewed for a season 2, this year. The first two episodes are already streaming on RTE.
Marvel’s Big Paycheck To Charlie Cox
Tumblr media
Well, Charlie Cox might not get the deserving pay in some other films, but he gets a good payday at Marvel. Even before the announcement of Daredevil: Born Again, Charlie Cox appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home which was a complete surprise for fans. It was known that the Stone Of Destiny actor was paid an amount of at least $4M. Other reports also suggested that he may have got up to $7M.
Well, Charlie Cox is now getting his own stand-alone masked superhero series. So it can be expected that he will get even more than the amount he was paid for a film like Spider-Man: No Way Home. Daredevil Born Again will be an 18-episode-long series that will stream on Disney+.
As of now, the release date isn’t confirmed but it’s known the series will be released in 2024.

👄 Pam, The O'riginal Chainsaw Gal
Flower Child
March 1971 - when I was a free-spirited little hippie gal, all of 19. My boyfriend of 8 months, George, was taking my picture in front of the house he shared with Gunner Hansen. It was on Avenue G in Central Austin, near the UT campus. Gunner and I were sworn enemies. He was relentless in making sure I was left out while he and George went out to hunt chicks, drink beer, and smoke pot. George was quite easily encouraged in all three cases. After 13 months with philandering George, the incessant liar, I’d had my fill. I got out the back, Jack didn’t look in the rearview and happily lost track of both of them. George would try to talk to me on campus, but I was done. I’d taken the cure. Ah, love. Good riddance I said. I hoped.
This was two years and four months before Gunner’s and my paths would cross again. It was on July 18, 1973, the first day on the set where we were beginning filming what would become the cult horror classic, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," 1974. The TCM cast, crew, producers, et all were gathered in Quick Hill, just outside Austin, Texas, at what would be called, “The Sawyer house”. It was located across a dirt road from what we came to think of as “the old Hardesty house”.
I was in for a big surprise that morning. Unbeknownst to either Gunner, or myself, we'd both been cast in this little non-union (aka ’scab’) local horror film, "HEADCHEESE”, a working title. I was standing outside the Sawyer house on that muggy, hot Texas morning, chit-chatting with my acting colleagues, ‘Sally’, ‘Kirk’, ‘Jerry’, and ‘Franklin’ (you know them). We were getting to know one another. We were all dressed in our costumes, all our own clothes that they’d picked out from different outfits we’d brought from home for them to choose from, for us to wear in the film, a strictly low-budget affair. Nearby, parked in the yard of the Sawyer house, was the Vortex RV/trailer/office, a no frills, no AC job, where we were soon to sign our first contracts. Everyone was pretty excited and a bit lost.
Producer-writer, Kim Henkel, stuck his head out the open RV door and excitedly called over to me, “Hey, Teri!! Come over here! I want to introduce you to 'Leatherface!” OK, I’m ready. Kim seemed thrilled, proud as punch for us to meet. As I stepped inside, I made my way down the narrow aisle, walking toward a very large figure, a man with a head full of brown curly hair, who was sitting with his back to me. He took up one of the two banquette seats. Someone was seated across from him, but I can’t remember who. As I got even with him, I noted he was almost as tall sitting down as I was standing up. This guy was big. I was feeling an eery sense of deja vu. Kim said, “Leatherface, meet Pam!” Ta-da! He turned toward me and cocked his head to look at me, both of us prepared to say, “Hey, nice to meet ya!!” Instead, we both looked at one another in sheer horror. We each jerked back with our mouths wide open. Simultaneously, we both blurted out, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE??!!!” They call them "excited utterances."
Well, we got through the moment, gathered our wits, quickly cooled our heels, and shared little with those around us. (Ai-yi-yi!! What have I gotten myself into? ) Toward the end of the day, on a break, we had coffee together. Turns out, George and Gunner had had a falling out. George had parted the G-Avenue house owing Gunner money, just as good ol’ George had also owed me money when we’d parted. Gunn and I buried the proverbial hatchet and the rest, my friends, is history.
Rest In Peace
Gunnar Hansen 1947-2015
George 1945-2017
**Thanks to my friend Eric Goode for the cleanup and colorization on these 50-year-old B&W photos.
Teeny-Tiny Addendum - It would be grossly unfair to posterity not to list GRWB’s many good qualities. Gunner would want me to do that. Over the years, they managed to reconcile. In 2012 Gunner invited me to meet him at El Mercado in S Austin, to interview me for his book. At the end, he asked if I ever talked to George, and had a few choice tidbits to tell me… but that’s a whole other story!
GB and I moved back in together after he moved from Ave G, however he never told me why he left Ave G and Gunner, or even that they’d had a falling out. He could be sneaky! All I knew was that I didn’t have to ever see my sworn mortal enemy, Gunner Dang Hansen, ever again! Pretty sure GB moved out at the end of the spring semester of ’71, (after that picture above taken of me at their house). Then, we moved back in together (again!) to a cool house in Tarrytown in Austin.
George was charming, imaginative, smart, witty, spontaneous, creative, LOVED good music, laughing, and was often thoughtful, kind, crazy/wild, very sweet, positive, complimentary, expert at apologizing, remorseful, loving, adventurous, a true dreamer. We had electric chemistry and loads of fun times together. We went to Willie’s first picnic together in ’71. I believe we broke up 13 times in 12 months, usually getting back together within 48 hours. Incredibly talented, and, he had an absolute genius for finding new places for us to live. #credit
Thanks for reading.
Sending love to all. Posted on Pam's FB page: Saturday, 6 PM, January 22, 2022. Fair to Midland, partly cloudy, clear skies ahead.

Shocking Parole Board Vote Clears Way for Richard Glossip’s Execution in Oklahoma
**One of the most maddening cases and a clear wrongful conviction but the state is out for blood. Its always sad to see a victims family be so oblivious to reality and still fight for something that even the AG doesn't belive is the truth. Watch the 2017 documentary “Killing Richard Glossip.**
Three weeks ago, Richard Glossip was contemplating a possible future outside prison walls. In an extraordinary move, the Oklahoma attorney general had filed a motion with the state’s Court of Criminal Appeals asking that Glossip’s conviction and death sentence be overturned. If granted, the request would send his case back to the district court for a new trial — or a plea deal. After more than two decades in prison for a crime he insists he did not commit, Glossip was imagining life with his wife in Oklahoma City.
But in a stunning rebuke, the court rejected the attorney general’s request, triggering the 35-day protocol that precedes an execution. Perhaps most critical: a hearing on April 26 before the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board, whose members are empowered to recommend clemency to the governor, serving as a final check against a wrongful execution.
There was every reason to expect the board would vote to spare Glossip’s life. Among the witnesses who appeared on Glossip’s behalf on Wednesday was Attorney General Gentner Drummond himself, along with prominent Oklahoma lawmakers who have come to believe in Glossip’s innocence.
Yet in another stunning reversal of fortune, the board voted to deny clemency. Barring intervention by the courts or Gov. Kevin Stitt, Glossip will be executed by lethal injection on May 18.
“It’s horrifying,” Don Knight, Glossip’s lead attorney, said. But “we’re not done, by a long shot.”
Glossip was twice tried and sentenced to death for the January 1997 murder of Barry Van Treese inside a seedy Best Budget Inn that Van Treese owned on the outskirts of Oklahoma City. No physical evidence linked Glossip, the motel’s 34-year-old live-in manager, to the crime. Instead, the case against him was built almost exclusively on the testimony of 19-year-old Justin Sneed, who worked as a handyman at the motel. Sneed admitted to bludgeoning Van Treese to death but claimed it was all Glossip’s idea. Prosecutors claimed Glossip killed Van Treese in a scheme to take over the low-rent motel and painted Sneed as a meek dolt who would do anything Glossip asked of him. In exchange for testifying against Glossip, Sneed avoided facing the death penalty and was sentenced to life without parole. Glossip has steadfastly maintained his innocence, and over the years, evidence of his wrongful conviction has steadily mounted.
Counter to the state’s fanciful narrative, the evidence supports Glossip’s contention that Sneed — a chronic drug user with a penchant for unpredictable bouts of violence — initially planned to rob Van Treese, killed him when the plan went sideways, and then later, during a highly suggestive police interrogation, named Glossip as the mastermind behind the crime. Witnesses who were ignored by police and prosecutors have since come forward with evidence that Sneed was cunning, manipulative, and quite capable of killing a man on his own.
Knight has spent nearly a decade investigating and presenting to the court new evidence that undercuts Glossip’s conviction. Still, at every turn, the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals has willfully ignored the myriad problems with the case — including prosecutorial misconduct and the state’s destruction of evidence. That same evidence, meanwhile, has led a contingent of conservative, pro-death penalty lawmakers to advocate on Glossip’s behalf over fears the state might execute an innocent man.
The State Got Away With It
The clemency hearing took place at the Kate Barnard Community Corrections Center, a women’s jail complex in Northeast Oklahoma City. The fluorescent-lit room was packed compared to most clemency hearings, with seven rows of chairs assigned to attendees in advance. As in all such proceedings, victims’ family members sat on one side of the room, alongside representatives of the state, while advocates for Glossip sat on the other. Unlike most hearings, both sections included current and former elected officials, most notably Drummond, who was there representing the state and advocating for clemency, the first time an Oklahoma attorney general has ever done so.
“If the defense would’ve destroyed that box of evidence, there would have been charges brought against them. But the state seemingly got away with it.”
Among the most conspicuous attendees was former Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater, whose office sent Glossip to death row. Before his retirement in January, Prater aggressively defended Glossip’s conviction, intimidating witnesses who came forward with new evidence in 2015 and accusing Glossip of waging a “bullshit PR campaign.” Prater also previously targeted the parole board for recommending clemency in other cases, accusing members of having an anti-death penalty bias. Wearing a dark pinstriped suit, an American flag pin, and a permanent scowl, Prater sat in the fifth row alongside prosecutors from other parts of the state. While he did not speak before the board, Prater shook his head as witnesses described the state’s destruction of evidence and other prosecutorial misconduct.
Each side had 40 minutes to present their case, followed by remarks by the Van Treese family and Glossip himself. A large digital clock faced the speakers, while TV monitors faced the board. One of the five board members, Richard Smothermon, was absent, having recused himself due to the fact that his wife was the prosecutor who sent Glossip to death row.
Knight told the board that Glossip grew up in a chaotic household where family members struggled with drug and alcohol abuse. Unlike a number of his 15 siblings, Glossip managed to avoid running afoul of the law, and after dropping out of school, he worked hard to build a quiet and successful life for himself. He became a manager at Domino’s Pizza before turning to management of a string of motels. “It may not seem like much, but for a guy with a seventh-grade education … it was pretty good,” Knight told the board. The idea that Glossip was scheming to take over the Best Budget Inn was inconceivable, Knight said. It was a fiction dreamed up by Sneed, “a man who now everyone, even the state, admits is a liar.”
“People rarely begin a life of crime at 34,” Knight went on. In contrast, Sneed had a long history of criminal behavior before he killed Van Treese at 19, including threatening to kill his middle school teacher. “The worst thing on Rich Glossip’s record? A traffic ticket.”
Republican state lawmakers described how they had come to believe in Glossip’s innocence. Each said he was skeptical at first; they didn’t believe that an innocent person could wind up on death row. But as they learned more about the case, and new evidence continued to emerge, they concluded that Glossip’s conviction was a miscarriage of justice.
Central to their conclusion was the work of law firm Reed Smith, which undertook a pro bono investigation into the case at the behest of a larger group of lawmakers led by Republican Rep. Kevin McDugle. Reed Smith spent more than a year on its investigation, interviewed more than 40 witnesses, and gathered records from multiple state agencies, producing five reports that paint the clearest picture yet of Glossip’s wrongful conviction. McDugle told the board that he asked the investigators to go where the facts took them. “I simply want them to find the truth in this case,” he said.
“In reading their findings, I was sickened that something like this could happen in the state of Oklahoma,” McDugle said. “Their investigation concluded that based on the complete record, old and new evidence, no reasonable jury hearing it all would have convicted Glossip of murder for hire.” McDugle was especially disturbed by the state’s destruction of a box of evidence before Glossip’s second trial in 2004, including the motel’s financial records and crime scene evidence that could have been tested for DNA. “If the defense would’ve destroyed that box of evidence, there would have been charges brought against them. But the state seemingly got away with it.”
Justin Jackson, a political ally of the governor’s, struck a more personal note. He said that he’d gotten to know Glossip during visits to death row at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester. Today he describes him as a friend and “brother in Christ.” “Rich has never wavered once in his claim of innocence,” Jackson said. He held up a painting of a hummingbird that Glossip made for Jackson’s mother, who was dying of cancer. Glossip said that for him, the hummingbird represented freedom from death row — but for Jackson’s mother, he hoped it would represent freedom from pain and suffering. When his mother died in 2020, Jackson said, “Rich had no way of knowing of my mom’s passing but by happenstance he called me later that morning. And he spent the next 30 minutes consoling me.”
An Unprecedented Hearing
When it was the state’s turn to present its case to the board, Drummond began by acknowledging each speaker, along with Van Treese’s loved ones. “I know that this has been an extremely difficult process for the family to endure.”
“I’m not aware of anytime in our history that an attorney general has appeared before this board and argued for clemency.”
“I want to acknowledge how unusual it is for the state to support a clemency application of a death row inmate,” Drummond said. “I’m not aware of anytime in our history that an attorney general has appeared before this board and argued for clemency. I’m also not aware of any time in the history of Oklahoma when justice would require it. Ultimately that is why we are here.” As the state’s chief law enforcement officer, Drummond said, it was his duty to consider “what justice is for the state of Oklahoma.” That’s what led him to finally release evidence that had never been turned over to Glossip’s legal team. It’s also what led him to launch an investigation of his own into the case.
Christina Vitale, a lawyer who was part of the Reed Smith investigation, presented a PowerPoint laying out critical new evidence that had come to light in the past year. This included multiple letters from Sneed to his attorney expressing a desire to recant his testimony against Glossip. It also included the contents of a box of evidence belonging to the district attorney’s office, which was turned over to investigators in January. The box contained prosecutors’ handwritten notes revealing that after Van Treese’s murder, Sneed had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and prescribed lithium to manage it by a psychiatrist who evaluated him at the Oklahoma City Jail. At trial, Sneed denied that the evaluation ever took place.
Drummond had highlighted Sneed’s misstatements in his brief to the Court of Criminal Appeals seeking to vacate Glossip’s conviction. He argued that Sneed’s mental health disorder combined with his chronic drug use could have negatively affected “Sneed’s ability to properly recall key facts” at trial. “The state has reached the difficult conclusion that the conviction of Glossip was obtained with the benefit of material misstatements to the jury by its key witness,” Drummond wrote.
Sneed lying about his diagnosis and prosecutors’ failure to correct the record were key factors for Rex Duncan, a former prosecutor whom Drummond retained to conduct the second investigation of Glossip’s conviction. Duncan was the last witness for the state. “This is a first for me, to agree with the defense attorney that their client deserves clemency,” he said. After 600 hours spent reviewing the case, Duncan said, he concluded that “Richard Glossip did not receive a fair trial and the state of Oklahoma cannot stand behind his conviction. Further, the state of Oklahoma cannot stand behind an execution given what has been discovered.”
“If anybody deserved to be on death row, it’s Justin Sneed,” Duncan said. “Richard Glossip has been on death row for most of his adult life, has been served his last meal three times and been within minutes of execution. The state of Oklahoma can extract its pound of flesh from Richard Glossip, but I believe it has already extracted three pounds.”
Enough Is Enough
When it was time for the Van Treese family to speak, their message was clear: They wanted their ordeal to be over and felt betrayed by the state’s call for clemency. Donna Van Treese, Barry’s widow, echoed her testimony from Glossip’s 2014 clemency hearing, describing the impact of her husband’s murder and the lasting trauma for her children. “We do not feel justly represented today,” she told the board. Barry’s son, Derek Van Treese, decried the years of investigation and publicity that had made Glossip’s case famous. “This case has been pushed from being a legal matter to being a political issue; has been pushed from the court of law to the court of public opinion,” he said. “Enough is enough.”
“Today has been a travesty,” Van Treese’s sister, Alana Van Treese Mileto, said. While she acknowledged that Drummond’s concerns should be considered, “at the same time, this is so one-sided.” The state’s presentation “feels like a giant stab in the back, to be honest with you.”
Asked if Drummond’s office had contacted the family prior to the hearing, Donna Van Treese spoke indignantly of a phone conversation with the attorney general. Drummond told her that he believed Glossip was guilty, she said. In response, Drummond repeated what he had previously stated: His personal belief was that Glossip was guilty of “at least accessory after the fact” for his failure to tell detectives about statements Sneed made following the murder. “More likely than not he’s guilty of murder,” he said. “But I do not believe that the evidence presents that he is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.” He maintained that the board should recommend clemency. “I believe it would be a grave injustice to allow the execution of a man whose trial was plagued by many errors.”
Glossip was given 20 minutes to speak on his own behalf. He spoke for less than three, appearing by Zoom from the Oklahoma State Penitentiary. He wore maroon prison scrubs, and his wrists were handcuffed together, making it difficult for him to raise his hand to be sworn in by the board chair. Glossip dabbed at his eyes with a tissue while delivering remarks he had prepared on sheets of white paper. He told the Van Treese family that he was sorry for everything they’d been through. And he thanked all the people who had supported him, including McDugle, Jackson, and Drummond.
His voice cracking with emotion, Glossip asked the board to grant him clemency. “I’m not a murderer, and I don’t deserve to die for this.”
Unlike Glossip’s previous clemency hearing in 2014, where board members challenged his account of what happened the day Barry Van Treese died, this time the board asked no questions. Instead, they announced a 10-minute break to deliberate.
After several hours of careful, comprehensive presentations by advocates for Glossip and representatives of the state laying out all the reasons that clemency should be granted, the end was shockingly abrupt. Board members quickly announced their votes: two votes for clemency, followed by two votes against. Under the rules of the Pardon and Parole Board, a tie is weighted in favor of the no votes, meaning the default is denying clemency and blessing an execution.
The Van Treese family cheered, cried, and hugged upon hearing the vote, gathering before a line of TV cameras. Everyone else filed out of the room.
Knight, Glossip’s lawyer, vowed to pursue every remaining avenue to save his client’s life. On Wednesday afternoon, he filed an unopposed stay of execution with the U.S. Supreme Court. He is also challenging the makeup of the board, arguing that the fifth board member, Smothermon, should have been replaced to avoid a tie that would result in a denial of clemency. Knight also plans to challenge the appellate court’s ruling dismissing Drummond’s request to vacate Glossip’s conviction. Finally, he said, he would ask the governor for a reprieve to allow the legal process to take its course, “because the execution of an innocent man would be an irreversible injustice.”
In the meantime, Glossip faces the torment of yet another execution countdown. As his wife, Lea, told the board, they have already undertaken the excruciating task of planning for his state-sanctioned murder: deciding who will attend the execution, what Glossip will choose for his final meal, and where he will be buried. “He is now on the brink of his ninth execution date, all for a crime that he did not commit,” she said. “This ordeal has been absolutely psychologically terrorizing.”
Leaving the hearing, McDugle called the outcome “ridiculous.” “Oklahoma’s got some systemic problems with the judicial system,” he said. “Any reasonable person who would have been in that room would have voted yes for clemency.” Although McDugle has always maintained that he supports capital punishment, he reiterated what he has previously said about the case: If Glossip’s execution is carried out, “I will fight against the death penalty in the state of Oklahoma.”

My first Power Rangers season was Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (my dad introduced me and my brother to it) and we soon discovered Power Rangers was the only show my brother and I could watch together without any form of violence boiling to the surface between us. I stopped watching anything Power Rangers around 2016-2017-ish. Do you think it's worth getting back into?
Personally, I use the show as a background noise most of the time, especially the newer seasons, which it’s pretty good for. Power Rangers as you get older is not so much a viewing experience as more of a way to stroke your nostalgia in my opinion, because fundamentally it is still limited by being targeted at the 7 to 12 year old age demographic. Which isn’t to say it’s not a good show it’s just I watched everything up until megaforce in middle school when I was 12 so most of what I’ve seen since, like beast Morphers, dino charge, ninja steel, Dino fury it’s mostly enjoyable however, I can’t quite say it’s a good quality show either because I am an adult and I understand that this show is made with the budget of a shoelace and a chewed up piece of gum. Power Rangers as you get older should be more of a group activity where other things are happening at the same time in my opinion. Like you’re watching the show and you’re doing an adult coloring sheet with a friend or maybe you’re live tweeting for the sake of it. It is like vanilla extract. You gotta add it to something else for it to be good. At may be the age it’s targeted towards it’s a solid show but if you’re like an adult like 18 to 20s it makes really good background noise for other stuff where you can still absorb Basically the whole plot but also you don’t get bored during the boring parts of just experiencing a kids show.
The comics also are in decline in my opinion because they’ve been trying to milk Shattered grid for way too long. However, I do think everything before shattered grid in the comic books was pretty good.
I do not like soul of the dragon at all, but that’s mostly because I’m not a big fan of characters that are the kids of famous characters being forced to carry on the mantle of their parents. It’s part of why I think that batman should die with Bruce Wayne When I read those comic books as well (Terry McGinnis deserves his own hero name)
I have a love-hate relationship with the side story they gave Karone as well, but that’s more my opinion how Andros handled the trial and the fact that they made another Ranger from the show one of her victims.
The time force comic is good but doesn’t really feel like power rangers.
I have never seen hyper force and honestly found it hard to get into but since it’s audio based they do have a lot of veteran rangers visit the show which is cool if you’re into that.
Sorry if this was kinda rant-y

These 5 spooky video games will keep you on the edge of your seat
From big-budget blockbusters to indie standouts, the future has a lot of fear-packed games. But many older games are still so good, it would be a shame to miss them. As a huge horror fan, it is difficult to find the right blend of scary and story in a video game. Hence, I have created a list of my absolute must-play horror games to help fellow enthusiasts.
Until Dawn (2015)
If you’re looking for the most cliché horror game, it’s got to be this one. Until Dawn is an interactive survival horror game that lets players step into the shoes of eight young adults as they try to survive on Blackwood Mountain.
Tumblr media
The characters fit stereotypes that can be found in horror movies. There are plenty of jump scares in the story, and the coolest part is you decide how it progresses. Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, and Brett Dalton are some of the recognizable faces in the game.
Developer: Supermassive Games
Genre: Survival Horror, adventure, exploration
Modes: Single player
Rating: Mature (ESRB), 18 (PEGI)
Available on: PlayStation 4
Fatal Frame III: The Tormented (2005)
A third installment in the Fatal Frame series, Fatal Frame III: The Tormented tells the story of Rei Kurosawa, a freelance photographer, who is assigned to take photos of an abandoned mansion. The dark, narrow corridors and Japanese ghosts definitely add a lot of scare factor to this survival horror classic.
Tumblr media
Throughout the game, you'll experience unexpected twists and turns, as you fall under the curse of the mansion. What's really interesting is that there are two endings.
Developer: Tecmo
Genre: Survival Horror
Modes: Single player
Rating: Mature (ESRB), 18 (PEGI)
Available on: PlayStation 2
The Evil Within (2014)
Though not as popular, this game is a psychological horror experience that messes with your perceptions. The story is fascinating and the characters are multidimensional.
You take on the role of Sebastian Castellanos, a police detective arriving with his partners at a Beacon Memorial Hospital to investigate a crime. The team finds the hospital abandoned after discovering a massacre took place there. The story then takes a crazy turn which you should definitely find out for yourself!
Tumblr media
This game has more action and shooting than the other two, reminiscent of Resident Evil four through six. So if you want something more action-oriented, this one is for you.
Developer: Tango Gameworks
Genre:  Psychological horror, Survival Horror
Modes: Single Player
Ratings: Mature (ESRB), 18 (PEGI)
Available on: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, Xbox Cloud Gaming
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017)
The first-person survival horror game Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has a LOT of gore. You play as Ethan Winters, who searches for his long-missing wife on a derelict plantation occupied by an infected family, fighting enemies and solving puzzles.
Tumblr media
This will probably be on every horror game list, but it is totally worth checking out. The seventh Resident Evil game brought Capcom back to its horror roots, and they did a great job.
Developer: Capcom
Genre: Psychological horror, survival horror
Modes: Single Player
Ratings: Mature (ESRB), 18 (PEGI)
Available on: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch (Cloud Version), PlayStation 5, Stadia
Blair Witch (2019)
There's no doubt you'll be up at night with this one! In this game, an ex-policeman, Ellis Lynch, is tasked with finding a missing boy in the Black Hills Forest, based on the Blair Witch horror movies of the '90s.
Tumblr media
“Blair Witch is one of the most successfully terrifying horror games I've ever played. More so even than any of the Amnesia games, it made me feel like I'd been dragged feet-first through Hell by the end.”
- (Hafer, 2019)
With the first person perspective and the extremely dark surroundings, you're sure to get goose bumps. The story is captivating and makes you question everything. There are plenty of puzzles to solve as well as a lot to explore. and the fact that you can customize your German Shepherd at the beginning of the game (and feed him snacks throughout) is particularly appealing to me.
Developer: Bloober Team
Genre: Survival horror
Modes: Single Player
Ratings: Mature (ESRB)
Available on: Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Oculus Quest, Oculus Quest 2, Amazon Luna

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma appeals court on Thursday upheld the murder conviction of death row inmate Richard Glossip, paving the way for Glossip to be executed on May 18, despite the state attorney general’s concerns about some testimony and evidence.
Glossip can still plead his case for clemency to the five-member Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board, which could recommend that the governor spare Glossip’s life by commuting his sentence to life in prison without parole.
Glossip, now 60, has long maintained his innocence in the 1997 murder-for-hire killing of his former boss, Barry Van Treese, who owned the Best Budget Inn where Glossip worked as the manager. The motel’s handyman, Justin Sneed, admitted robbing Van Treese and beating him to death with a baseball bat, but claims he did so only after Glossip promised to pay him $10,000 to do it.
Sneed, who ended up getting life in prison, was the key witness in two separate murder trials for Glossip, both of which ended in a conviction and death sentence.
Earlier this month, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond urged the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals to throw out Glossip’s conviction because he says Sneed lied to the jury about his mental health and drug use. Drummond said in his filing that Sneed’s misstatements, when combined with other problems in the case including the destruction of evidence, warrant a new trial.
“This is not to say I believe (Glossip) is innocent,” Drummond said in a statement at the time. “Considering everything I know about this case, I do not believe that justice is served by executing a man based on the testimony of a compromised witness.”
Glossip has been scheduled for execution before and three separate times came within hours of being put to death.
One of his scheduled executions was halted in September 2015 when prison officials realized they had received the wrong lethal drug, a mix-up that helped prompt a nearly seven-year moratorium on the death penalty in Oklahoma.
Glossip’s case attracted international attention after actress Susan Sarandon — who won an Academy Award for her portrayal of death penalty opponent Sister Helen Prejean in the 1995 movie “Dead Man Walking” — took up his cause in real life. Prejean herself has served as Glossip’s spiritual adviser and frequently visited him in prison. His case also was featured in the 2017 documentary movie “Killing Richard Glossip.”

Japan’s PM struggles to survive in parliamentary vote amid Trump’s victory in US
Japanese lawmakers are set to decide whether Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba would remain the country’s leader after his coalition lost its parliamentary majority in lower house elections late last month, Reuters reported.
Ishiba, who called a snap election after taking office on 1 October, is expected to win as his Liberal Democratic Party and coalition partner Komeito won the most seats in the election, losing the majority held since 2012.
Isiba will face the prospect of leading a fragile minority government at a time when Donald Trump is regaining control of the United States, and public pressure is mounting domestically to address the rising cost of living. Meanwhile, the small opposition Democratic Party for the People refused to enter a formal coalition with the LDP but said it could offer support on individual policy issues.
DPP chief Yuichiro Tamaki declared on Friday that party members would not vote for Ishiba at a special parliamentary session on Monday.
Until now the LDP and Komeito have been able to push their policies through and they are no longer able to do that, they have to listen to the opposition parties.
Former Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, head of the opposition Constitutional Democratic Party, will also be among the candidates nominated for prime minister. If no candidate wins a majority in the primary, a run-off between the two main contenders will decide the winner.
Next year, Japan will hold elections for the less powerful upper house, where the ruling coalition’s slim majority could also be in jeopardy. Ishiba needs to restore public confidence in his administration, which has been rocked by a scandal over unaccounted-for donations to lawmakers.
The most pressing challenge he faces is putting together a supplementary budget for the fiscal year ending in March, under pressure from voters and opposition parties to increase social welfare spending and take measures to offset price increases.
Ishiba also has a number of international events, including the Group of 20 major economies summit in Brazil on 18 and 19 November. He is seeking to organise a stopover in the United States during the G20 summit to meet Trump.
Some Japanese officials fear that Trump may again lash out at Tokyo with trade measures and demand it increase spending to station US troops in the country. During Trump’s first term, from 2017 to 2021, those concerns were largely mitigated by the close ties between the president and then-Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

@alexcaninnit making a new post to not clog the art one but magical girl anime recs!!!
ok so first off i'm going to recommend Pretty Cure. basically The magical girl anime of today's era. it's 21 seasons at the moment but don't let that scare you; they're (mostly) all separate continuities. basically you can start with pretty much any season that catches your eye but my personal favorites are Kira Kira Precure A La Mode, Futari wa Precure/Futari wa Precure Max Heart (the first two seasons), and Mahotsukai Precure (AKA Maho Girls Precure or Witchy Precure) but they're all mostly good.
basically the appeal of precure is that the monster battles tend to be a lot more punchy-kicky deals than something like sailor moon (we'll get to that.) and there's a ton of really awesome fight scenes in pretty much every season. (the current season Wonderful Precure is an exception but it's in line with the themes of that show and it still has plenty of action so it's chill.) i will warn that not every single episode is Peak Fiction, this is a weekly show made for children to watch every sunday morning alongside sentai and kamen rider so some episodes will just not have the budget for cool fight scenes or be inextricably Made For Children. BUT it's still really enjoyable for anyone, i just want to warn you up front. the exception to all this is Otona Precure '23 (or Power of Hope Precure Full Bloom), which is an adult far-future sequel spinoff to the first five seasons (mostly the latter three of those). i'll be honest i don't really recommend it unless it's for completion's sake, it's got some cool ideas but is just... not great.
the version of this rant i have locked and loaded in my head says that you can find like a fourth of the seasons on crunchyroll but it's actually getting better! it's up to like. a little over half of them now??? including every season i've mentioned by name earlier. which is kinda wild to me.
i was writing the sailor moon part and i forgot to talk about glitter force. basically it's a dub of smile precure and doki doki precure. which would be cool and good if they didn't 4kids the hell out of it. like come on it ended in fucking 2017 why are we 4kidsing it. don't watch it unless you watch smile or doki doki and go 'man i wonder what they did here.' also it's leaving netflix in november so you'll just have to pirate it after that but you have to pirate smile and doki doki anyways so just watch the originals instead. (it might be listed under the name glitter force if your site uses the english names for everything, context be damned, but yeah.)
ok so shows that aren't precure. admittedly i'm not as well-versed as i'd like to be (because i was busy watching all 21 seasons of precure) but i do have some thoughts. these other shows tend to be for a more mature audience (not to say they're like 18+ only or whatever just that they're not made for literal toddlers like precure is)
let's talk about sailor moon. obviously everyone knows sailor moon. you literally used her pose for your art. sailor moon is like The magical girl series. i know i called precure that but come on it's fucking sailor moon. hell I started with sailor moon as my first magical girl anime. but enough about that.
i watched the remake (sailor moon crystal) and it's okay. definitely gets way better from the third season on though. i don't think those first couple seasons are really optional though, and there's still good bits, but it just gets better s3 on. i don't really have too much to say about it otherwise because i mean. it's sure there. you can watch it and it's sailor moon. it's not like they're making spinoffs with like sailor wolftopia (that one exoplanet from that one post) or whatever. i guess there's the difference between the 90's anime and crystal but that's a personal preference thing. crystal cuts the filler of the 90's anime because it's literally based on the manga in its entirety and didn't have to wait for the manga to catch up before advancing the plot like the 90's anime did. but if you're a fan of that kinda thing you can probably find it somewhere idk. crystal's super accessible though since it's just on netflix. not even a horrible mangled dub version like glitter force it's just Sailor Moon. you can even just watch it with subs instead of the dub if you want and netflix will just let you do that. what a wonderful world we live in.
tokyo mew mew time. so like sailor moon i just watched the remake tokyo mew mew new but honestly it's peak. it's incredible you should definitely watch this at some point. i'm assuming the og anime is in the same position with this as 90's sailor moon but honestly i don't know jack shit about it. i'd just watch TMMN if i were you it's probably fine. tmm is cool because instead of getting their powers from fairy mascots falling from the heavens or whatever they get them with the power of SCIENCE and shit and it rocks. also tmmn really leans into the environmental messages and honestly it's really well done. otonapre should have taken notes. but again i don't really have as much to say about it as i do precure because it's just. you watch it and it's tokyo mew mew. i guess that's one of the reasons why toei makes precure seasons every year huh
ok brief shout out to acro trip here. it's still airing (i need to go watch episode 4 come to think of it...) and so far it's pretty good. i dunno if i'd recommend it as a first mg anime but it's probably not indecipherable. it's a comedy where a girl sees a magical girl fight and falls in love with the magical girl, but after sticking around town realizes that the villain she's fighting kind of sucks ass at being a villain which kinda sucks for her because she can't see good magical girl fights if the villain is so pathetic right? and through some wacky hijinks she tells that to the villain and he's like 'you should help me with my plans then' and hilarity ensues from there. everyone has like 1 brain cell total throughout the whole cast it's great. it's not a typical magical girl formula though which idk i think that's kinda the appeal of Getting Into Magical Girl Anime yknow? but i mean acro trip's good so you should totally watch it at some point, and if that point happens to be 'immediately' i will not be complaining
so uh yeah. magical girls
