tell me if you heard this film before: a film that takes place in the 2010s, where a teenager around seventeen/eighteen years old, who is not a fan of the popular crowd and steers clear of it, also suffers from parental issues with one dead parent they were more closer too (bonus points if they saw them die in a car that they're also in) and having a struggling relationship with their other parent. feeling as if everyone is against them, and see them as a freak, outsider, etc and feeling alone until enters someone they never really had a conversation with before, as they start bonding and creating a connection, making them feel less alone and that said teenager starts growing more as a character and we can't help but sympathize for them, even though they have said some out of pocket stuff to other people but that's not the point

An intrinsic part of my relationship with my betrothed is how food is treated. For instance. When I’m eating something like a sandwich or a burger and some of the toppings fall off, those are gone forever. I have no interest in chasing scraps or wrangling tiny pieces of food, once they hit the plate they’re dead to me.
Conversely. My betrothed is the tidiest and most exacting eater. They will get every tiny scrap and morsel and consume it bite by neat little bite.
But it really works out, because we quickly learned that one of their favorite pastimes is salvaging my dropped food. If we’re eating bahn mi they’ll reach over to retrieve the fallen soldiers of pickled veggies. When they’re in very silly mood they’ll scrabble up my leavings in a much more gremliny manner.
Today I polished off a BLTA and as it’s a high reward sandwich nothing had really fallen. So I was surprised when they started cackling and rustling the paper. When they pulled their spoon back it had the tiniest bit of avocado on the tip which they consumed while giggling manically.

Hi Tings!
I have a selection of questions from the Colbert Questionnert for you today:
Best sandwich?
What’s one thing you own that you should really throw out?
What is the scariest animal?
Kat!!!! I’m so sorry I’m late to answering this! Work has been so busy which is really cutting into my tumblr time 😒😂
The best sandwich in my opinion is a BLT with avocado and hot sauce! Specifically the BLTA from McAllister’s Deli, if you’re familiar 😋
I actually have a bunch of things I own that I should throw out. I’m quite sentimental. My husband would say it’s all the books I read (or meant to read) growing up because they weigh a TON and are currently taking up space in our storage unit. BUT. I would say a LOT of clothes that don’t fit me and are not at all my style anymore but I’m too scared to throw out in case I like them/fit them again 😅
The scariest animal— don’t laugh— is a house cat. Yes, I am very biased after a traumatic incident involving my grandma’s cat and lots of puncture wounds 😬 but really, they are terrifying to me. How can such a small, weightless animal inflict so much terror? And at the drop of a hat go from docile to absolutely unhinged for seemingly no reason? (To this day we’re still not sure what set him off. I was minding my own business on the other side of the room.) Anyways, I do not trust them and they terrify me. I am still on high alert around cats and this incident took place 9 years ago 😅
Thank you for the questions, lovely!!! I always look forward to them 💕🥰😘

[A photo of Tix Barn, it is quite dark. You can discern a mound of dark red. It is Yoghurt! In its wings are cuddled up Appleslice, Bacon and Tomato. Lettuce is resting on its back, they are apparently all sleeping]
Oh my zygarde look at these little guys! I did NOT expect them to befriend Yoghurts so quickly, but I'm very excited. Like, the BLT kinda keeps to themselves (well, including Appleslice. Is it the BLTA then?) Sometimes Muffin joins in on the action. Maybe they noticed that he likes Yoghurt?

So I am. Very. Very afraid of bees. Wasps. Y’know, if it’s yellow and it flies, I am terrified of it. This fear is not rational. To the best of my knowledge I’ve never been stung and I do my best to mitigate my fear response to freeze or flight, I’d never hurt a wasp/bee/hornet just for investigating me.
But today after school my betrothed and I were eating in the park. The smell of my delicious BLTA lured a bee toward us. I tried to hold still. It would fly in and out, getting closer then seeming to drift away. Then it came in much closer near my chest.
My betrothed was just saying maybe we should head home when it buzzed right up into my face. I swear to god I blacked out when it touched my nose. I fell backwards off the bench onto the concrete. The bee presumably flew off after this display, and we were able to leave in peace.
This may not be the very top of the list on stupid ways I’ve hurt myself but damn if it’s not up there. I bruised my elbow pretty good and I may have fucked up my back.

Small Business Food and Drink of Beverly Massachusetts
The best bites around.
Tumblr media
Hale Street Tavern
Located in Beverly Farms at 717 Hale Street, Hale Street Tavern has a casual pub scene, with an upbeat and fun flare to the atmosphere. As soon as you walk in you see the newly-remodeled bar wrapping widely being the focal point of the restaurant. The tavern has been a classic spot for Beverly locals and Endicott College students for a long time.
Tumblr media
They offer a long list of cocktails, beers and wines. Their menu has 7 ‘Classic Cocktails’ and 7 ‘Specialty Cocktails’, ranging from a Triple Rum Punch to an Almond Joy Martini.
The menu is large with different seafoods and shellfish, classic american dishes, and more. The starters on the menu are all classics. The wings are delicious and one of my favorites items, 6 for $12.50 or 9 for $16.50. I have enjoyed the Tavern Nachos with and without chicken on top, which are both delicious options with plenty of toppings to choose from piled on, sold from $15.50 to $22.50. The Bang Bang Cauliflower is a great meatless option that has a nice kick to it, sold for $13.50.
There is a large group of salads to choose from, ranging from the classic caesar salad for $14.50, to a traditional marinated seaweed salad for $8.50. For handhelds, you have lots of sandwiches to choose from. For Reuben lovers, they offer a classic with sauerkraut, swiss, and corned beef on rye, sold for $17.50. The BLTA is my favorite from the list; a delicious BLT with avocado served on crispy sourdough, sold for $15.
Tumblr media
The entrees list makes it hard to decide which item to order, with all of them sounding mouth watering. The haddock fish tacos are a popular choice which comes with two large tacos, sold for $18. The Mac N’ Cheese is a classic made with 3 cheese and topped with ritz crumbles, sold for $21.50.
One of my favorite aspects of Hale Street Tavern is their specialty days; Sunday kids eat free, Monday sushi is buy one roll, get one half off, Tuesday is $10 tacos, and Wednesday is 50 cent wings. Wing Wednesday is very popular among Endicott College students who are located just a few minutes down the road. I have fond memories over the past few years of my friends and I attending Wing Wednesday, and have always appreciated the discount.
The pricing on the menu is not cheap, but I wouldn’t consider it expensive. Especially with the weekly discounts on special days, Hale Street Tavern offers fair prices for delicious food. I have always had a good experience here with the fun atmosphere and welcoming employees.
Kitchen Table
Newly opened in August of 2023, Kitchen Table is an up and coming hot spot in Beverly. Located at 392 Cabot Street, the restaurant has a decent sized location, famously known for The Wild Horse bar previously owning the space. The authentic bar top and high tables have been preserved from the iconic Wild Horse, which is very appreciated by the locals. Waves of people have been coming in lately, especially since their Phantom Gourmet segment aired.
Tumblr media
The owner, Bill Fogarty, previously owned a restaurant called Scratch Kitchen, where he made everything from scratch. He never let go of that aspect; here at his new restaurant, everything down to the condiments is made in house.
The menu is unique and exciting with something delicious for everyone. They offer a number of house cocktails from a variety of spirits, such as The Scratch Sour, The Cranberry Bog, or the En rouge. My personal favorite is The PainKiller: Pussers Rum, coco cream, and a fruit puree of passionfruit, mango and pineapple. Additionally, they offer a wide variety of whites, reds and bubbles when it comes to wine, over 20 beers on draught, and a long list of specialty liquors that were all carefully hand-selected.
Tumblr media
My favorite food item happens to be on the starters list: the Bacon Nachos, with the solo size for $9 and the mucho size for $17. The Spanakopita Quesadilla is like nothing I have ever had before; local corn tortillas, stuffed with local feta, spinach, onions, topped with olive relish and za’atar spiced yogurt.
If you’re in the mood for a salad, you can choose from the simple Caesar “ish” or the Greens and Things topped with locally harvested vegetables.
The two most popular entrees among customers are the “Scratch Kitchen” Burger and the Garlic and Herbed Roasted Chicken. The burger is $20 and is like no other; it is topped with KT onion bacon jam, sharp cabot cheese, KT remoulade sauce, lettuce, and “oven” tomatoes. It is served with house cut fries and KT ketchup. The chicken is $28; it is a ½ roasted chicken from a local farm served with greens and roots, maine mashed potatoes with herbed bacon butter and chicken jus.
The KT espresso martinis are batched in-house and are available on nitro. Kitchen Table receives espresso and coffee from local coffee shops  Beantrust Coffee Bar and Atomic Cafe.
The restaurant has 3 main rooms; the dining room, the nook, and the bar area that contains its own seating area as well. Each room has their own atmosphere based on where the customer wants to sit. The dining room is suitable for families with children, or couples seeking a quiet spot to eat. The nook is more lively and has more space to seat larger gathering crowds. Lastly, the bar; it's the most popular area with upbeat music, exciting vibes, where available seats are scarce.  As an employee at the Kitchen Table, I see the behind the scenes of every aspect of this restaurant. The employees feel like family, and each and every one of them are truly invested in their job and this place. The pricing at Kitchen Table is not cheap, but every penny is worth it. To make things better, Kitchen Table just began brunch on the weekends, adding a savory breakfast item to their website.
For a bite to eat, which option would I prefer?
If I had to pick one spot over another when it comes to Hale Street Tavern or Kitchen Table, my heart will always be with Kitchen Table.
Tumblr media
Although the pricing at Hale Street Tavern is more affordable, and the themed days are always a bonus as well, the food at Kitchen Table is just unbeatable. Every item is tailored to perfection by Bill, the owner, and each drink is crafted with care by Molly, the general manager.
It's apparent that everyone involved with Kitchen Table is dedicated to creating the best experience possible paired with some of the most delicious dishes in Beverly.
