National Ice Cream Soda Day
Whether it’s sitting in your backyard with family and friends, out at a restaurant, or at a specialized ice cream vendor, you won’t regret having an Ice Cream Soda.
National Ice Cream Soda Day is celebrated annually on June 20th. This day is certainly loved and celebrated by many people across the globe, where they enjoy this popular drink. Since this drink has become an increasingly popular refreshment for everyone it has sometimes been referred to as a soda float.
Therefore, you should invest some time in slurping this frothy wonderment up a stripy straw. The drink is comprised of only a couple of scoops of ice-cream in any carbonated beverage. An ice-cream soda is perfect to cool you down on a sizzling June summer day and offers a refreshing snap that leaves you yearning for more.
Ice cream soda has definitely made a huge impression across the entire world. Also famously known as an ice cream float in places like the United Kingdom, USA, Africa, Canada, and East Asia. There are many other names that have risen right across the globe including, coke float in the United Kingdom and South East Asia, A spider in New Zealand and Australia, and a Helado Flotante in Mexico. Yes, that’s right you can even grab yourself a refreshing ice cream soda when holidaying in Mexico. And what a better place to enjoy this lovely beverage?
History Of National Ice Cream Soda Day
Ice Cream Soda day is a day that is dedicated to the commemoration of the famous ice cream soda, a delicious, creamy, and frothy drink. Surprisingly, this drink was a completely accidental discovery. However, because of its unique combination, many people from different parts of the world have grown to love it. Hence, this day is dedicated to remembering the creation of the amazing ice cream soda.
Whether you choose to create your own with a dollop of your favorite ice cream in your favorite carbonated drink or pop into a traditional ice cream bar, once you taste the famous ice cream soda you are sure to fall head over heels and just want more. One of the most popular choices when it comes to ice cream sodas is Coco-Cola and Vanilla ice cream, something about just works and tantalizes the taste buds.
The roots of National Ice Cream Soda Day can be traced right back to when the famous ice cream soda was discovered by a soda seller. They were created by the legendary Robert Green in 1874 during Philadelphia’s sesquicentennial jamboree. Sources state that the ingenious Mr. Green mixed vanilla ice cream in with the soda he was selling, after unfortunately being devoid of ice. Little did he know, but he created a special kind of drink that was to become ultimately and extremely popular in all parts of the world.
During this time, historians say that he was extremely proud of his invention and initiative. His customers were happy about his unintentional creation, which leads us to the here and now. We can certainly thank him for using his initiative to create the ice cream soda that we have come to love so much. It has been said that Mr. Green claims he generated the idea before the initiation of the event.
Even if Mr. Green meant it or not, it was a brilliant idea to keep the sodas cold. Some of the best creations come from on the spot creativity and what a great one this was! Even if it was as simple as the thinking ice cream is cold, ice cubes are cold, let’s try it! Understandably, his epiphany was an instantaneous hit and spread like proverbial wildfire.
Green was basking in his achievement for the remainder of existence and humorously (some would say egotistically!) had “Originator of the Ice Cream Soda” written on his gravestone. And who can blame him! This is definitely something that you’d want to be remembered for.
How Has It Changed?
Nowadays, there is a range of variations on the originally invented ice cream soda, even encompassing root beer floats, Boston coolers, and purple cows. To adequately make National Ice Cream Soda Day an event: grab some soda, a couple of scoops of ice cream and a straw. Finally, sit in the sunshine and enjoy your creation whilst thinking of how Mr. Green’s epiphany became an instant sensation!
Why Should You Be Celebrating National Ice Cream Soda Day?
There are numerous reasons why you should celebrate ice cream soda day. One of the best being that an ice cream soda is an ultimately refreshing treat that can fill you with delight and refreshment. This day gives you the chance to not only enjoy the historic drink but it also allows you to join in the celebrations to thank the creator properly for giving us this wonderful creation. It’s certainly a day for recognizing what creation and initiative can achieve.
And, How Can You Do It?
There are many ways you can join in and enjoy ice cream soda day. Whether it’s your favorite ice cream shop, sitting in your back yard with the family, in a restaurant or joining all the other ice cream soda fans on this wonderful day you’re sure to have fun, find new and exciting flavors and fall in love with a traditional and historical drink that is a favorite to many around the world. Some of the great ways you can join in with the celebrations include:
Getting creative and making your own with your favorite ice cream flavors and favorite drinks. Why not see who can come up with the nicest, most delicious, craziest ideas in your family? You could even turn it into a little competition, the winner claiming the best ice cream soda day prize. You could even go all the way and add whipped cream, sprinkles, chocolate sauce, and a cherry on top.
There are many ice cream soda recipes you could try. How about, A Boozy Biscoff Beer Float with that delicious coffee butter-flavored ice cream and an ice-cold beer? gingerbread Ice Cream Float, who said gingerbread was just for Christmas? Rum and Coke Float, you’re sure to wish that your favorite pub served this version of the ice cream soda once you try it.
The Guinness Float, perfect for the dark beer lovers, this float is made up simply of a bottle of Guinness, vanilla ice cream, and chocolate syrup. Or The Strawberry Ice Cream Soda, perfect for the strawberry shake lovers out there, this fizzy version has all the creamy goodness with the sweet strawberry flavor that you crave.
Taking a trip out and about in search of ice cream soda, come on you’re bound to find it everywhere on this day! In fact, almost in a restaurant or beverage shop should be able to create one for you with ease. You will most likely spot ice cream sodas all throughout your day, you won’t be able to resist the temptation and be spoilt for choice.
It’s certainly high in demand and a popular choice on ice cream soda day. If ice cream soda day wasn’t the perfect excuse to take the family out to enjoy a refreshing, bubbly, fun, and creative drink in the sun then what is? You could even make it a yearly occasion and see how many different flavors you can try across the years.
Celebrate on social media is another great idea, whether you take a picture of you and your friends enjoying your ice cream soda in the sun, share the wonderful creation you and the family have come up with or join in with the other ice cream soda fans, social media is a great way for you to participate in the wonderful day.

party people
ernest and esme's mission is to steal a specific key at the party while pretending to be each other's dates. it goes smoothly until it doesn't.
**********
while he won’t deny that he has been keeping track of his ex since the party began, that doesn’t mean he’s not also a great date performing exactly what needs to be performed, if he does say so himself. he dances with her and he offers to get food and drinks for her - which she accepts, with her usual air of slight condescension and sometimes warily frowns at the said food accompanied by wondering if it’s in or not.
he wonders how much of it is a performance.
she takes a sip of the orange juice - innest drink right now, he’s heard - and smiles daintily. “darling,” she simpers, “we should go try the spring rolls.”
“of course, sweetheart,” ernest replies, flashing her a warm smile.
the two of them exchange a glance of understanding behind their smiles. it appears she has just gotten information that the waiter serving the spring rolls has the key they want to steal.
they slowly head in the direction of the spring rolls, greeting people they pass on the dance floor. he notices bertrand has just stopped dancing and sat down on the edge of the fountain for a rest, while lemony snicket kisses him on the cheek and then leaves - presumably heading towards root beer float section to fetch a drink, if one were to hazard a guess.
“pay attention to your steps, darling,” esme warns, a warning edge under the false sweetness of her voice.
“thank you,” he says. “sweet of you to worry.”
he notices that once lemony snicket fades into the crowd, kit snicket has joined bertrand by the fountain side. she, unlike most people here, is simply dressed in t-shirt and jeans. esme apparently notices where his is gaze lingering, and comments, “that woman has no fashion sense whatsover. she’s the worst.”
“couldn’t agree more,” he replies cheerfully. it may be one of the most truthful things he’s said tonight. “on both accounts.”
he notices that they exchange a few words before both standing up together, and to his displeasure they’re now heading towards the same direction as he and esme are heading - the waiter with the spring rolls.
“darling,” esme says, sharp and sweet, “are you seeing what i’m seeing?”
“we need to move fast,” he agrees.
they soon come face to face, the four of them, blocking each pair from moving forwards without doing something drastic and attention catching.
he needs to say something. a pretense to hide why he’s actually here, or a distraction, maybe. so he says, “i see you’re here with lemony snicket tonight.”
“extremely ugly hat he has,” esme contributes, a mere comment, not made out of loyalty but perhaps disguised to seem so.
“tell me, is he a ..... better version of me?” ernest continues, mean in a way as if he’s been hurt, although of course that’s all pretense. “hates vfd but is willing to try to fix it instead of leaving it like a normal person would? hates vfd but still believes in it? is that why you chose him? because he’s the better version of me?”
bertrand looks like he’s about to say something, although kit is quicker. “i rather think instead of my brother, your brothers are the better version of you,” she scoffs.
a glass shatters in the distance, although it may just be inside his head.
esme turns to him, narrowing her eyes. “brothers plural?” she questions, batting her eyelashes at him while glaring daggers underneath. “darling? surely she didn’t just said that? not when you specifically told me you only have a twin brother?”
“oh, he didn’t tell you the secret yet? that the legendary brother is actually real?” bertrand asked, mildly polite, with a hint of faint smugness of an ex. ernest is quite sure all that is extremely fake, they all know he would never tell esme about dewey. he’s gambling something here, ernest suspects, maybe he’s banking on esme to conclude that the volunteers would never reveal a secret to her like that therefore it must not be actually real and merely a way to cause friction and distrust between firestarters. maybe frank has plans of revealing dewey soon that he hasn’t yet let ernest in on. ernest refuses to consider the possibility. it must be the former, he thinks. bertrand’s not usually a gambler, but he can be quick on his feet.
bertrand leans closer to ernest, murmuring in a voice that’s loud enough for esme to hear. “looks like you and esme aren’t at that stage yet, no?” and then in a much, much lower voice that even ernest has to strain to hear, he says, softly, “bug me,” before pulling back and smiling coolly. “you look handsome, by the way.”
“...... so do you,” ernest finds himself replying before he could rethink whether it’s a good move or not. he fishes out a recording device from his pocket and expertly inserted it into the pocket of bertrand’s suit jacket as he pretends to examine it. “nice jacket.”
bertrand nods politely at them, and then leaves with kit.
“whatever questions you have,” ernest says immediately. “we should focus on the spring rolls.”
esme narrows her eyes at him.
“also, i bugged them,” ernest says, offering an earpiece for esme. she raises an eyebrow in surprise and accepts it. he puts another earpiece in his ear and suddenly, bertrand and kit’s voice are coming through.
b: do you think esme bought our ‘the dewey legend is actually real’ act?
k, mean and almost gleeful, in ernest’s opinion: she’s ready to rip him apart, didn’t you see? she definitely bought it. she’ll start distrusting him.
“sneaky volunteers,” esme scowls.
“the worst,” ernest agrees.
“well, we’re not going to let them get their way,” esme determines. she smiles, brilliantly again, “now, spring rolls, darling?”
“of course,” he agrees.
esme successfully pickpockets the key from the waiter, and ernest sighs in relief internally. a good ending to a mission, despite the ups and downs during. he smiles at esme, “well done.”
it will be much later when he finds out the key is a decoy and has already been replaced.
**********
kit meets lemony at the chocolate cake stand and asks, quietly, “L, you replaced the key?”
“yes,” lemony confirms, giving kit the key he found on the waiter before replacing it with a decoy.
“good,” kit says. “now go dance with B, and then at some point fix his jacket for him, and discover the recording device in it. put on a show and then destroy it.”

Hey, this came to my mind while listening to a song; how about Reader (B!D) studies in Harvard and is away from her sisters. Both sides miss the other side but B!D can't come visit and Kara and A either (not for a day, I mean a whole week or so) because if their own duties. K messages her sister that she misses and thinks about her a lot and that it hurts her to only see her bideochat every saturday so B!D surprises them by taking time off of work and coming to NC. K and A doesnt know (1/2)
know about it and are surprised. A few tears, and a fluffy happy ending with soft Alex and cuddling Kara? Please, you would make me so happy! (2/2)
----
I miss you, babygirl. We all miss you. It hurts not to be able to hold you in my arms but I know that super brains like you have to go further to achieve what they set out to do. I hope to see you again soon. I love you.
You leaned back in your chair and took a deep breath. You looked out of your student apartment window into the dark world. It was almost midnight now and the only thing that could be heard and seen was the rain blowing against your window and the soft rays of light from the houses and lamps on the street.
The spatial separation from your sisters lay difficult in your stomach, you have been homesick since the beginning of the semester. Not after the apartment where you grew up for the past few years, but after your family. Lena, Winn, Maggie.
Again you stared at the cell phone that you clutched tightly with your hand and the message that had brought you out of the concept of your learning. You could no longer decipher it, your view was hazy and blurred.
Tears ran down your cheeks one by one and disappeared from your eyes to your chin where they fell like the raindrops outside of your own mind. You snorted hard, muted your cell phone and threw it on the bed.
You tried to concentrate on learning again but you couldn’t. You always came back to Alex and Kara. After a while you gave in to your thoughts and were overwhelmed. So overwhelmed that you tossed your pen to the side and lay down in your bed.
You were tired and sad.
You had only seen both of them on video chat every Saturday for the past few months, and not for long since something always got in the way. You missed the two and tried to find a way to please yourself and to make it easier. For all of you.
Without further ado a flash of thought overcame you and you smiled. You had a perfect plan. But you needed help. Help from the outside.
You wrote a short SMS to a person you knew would shut up over your plan and waited impatiently for the answer in hope, she would still be awake. Your eyes closed with a big grin on your face and the tears dried slowly. Just before you got involved in the land of dreams, your cell phone lit up with a short message.
Great idea, Baby Danvers. We gonna pull it, I am definitely helping you. I will make everything clear tomorrow and tell you how everything went. Good night.
Satisfied with the answer, your thoughts calmed down and prepared for the coming days. You had a lot to prepare before you could take the flight to National City to get back to where your heart was at home.
Quickly and safely, you fell into a deep sleep.
---
It was already 9pm when you arrived at the door of your old home. You stopped for a short time and looked at your cell phone again. -Keys are in the plant pot on the right. Made sure that both of them are at home today, don’t ask how and be happy. I will see you tomorrow, I want a big hug as a thank you- you skimmed the lines and threw your cell phone back in your purse while thanking her in your mind.
You let your suitcase standing in front of the door an walked to the said plant. Blindly you rummaged in the dirt and the roots before you felt the clink of the key on your fingertips.
When you moved out, you gave Alex the keys back. For the reason, that they were home as soon as they expected you or picked you up from the airport. You could also go to your friends if you needed the key, like this time.
After holding it firmly in your hand, you walked back and held your ear to the cold wood and listened. The TV was on and you heard both talking and laughing. The tears came back to you immediately but not out of sadness, but of happiness.
Quietly, so that you went unnoticed, you turned the key in the lock, took a deep breath and opened the door with a big swing.
Both immediately jumped off the sofa in alarm and Alex pulled her gun. You started to laugh and looked into two tangled faces that still hadn’t checked who you were. „You want to shoot your little sister, Allie?“
„Oh my god.“ She whispered and put her gun back on the table.
Still stunned both looked at you and could not realize that they no longer saw you through the screen of a smartphone but in real. You were there, your feet were on the same wooden floor a few meters away, your aura enveloped the room and your warmth radiated out of you that they had not felt for a long time.
Detached from their rigidity, they both ran at you almost simultaneously and took you into a bone crushing hug.
For months you had not felt as comfortable and loved as now, you were completely alone in your life and almost without friends. You could not stop your tears and let them flowing freely while pressing both of your sisters tighter and closer to you so that not even a sheet of paper could fit through. „I am so happy to be here again!“ you sobbed in the shoulders of the two.
You stayed there for a few more minutes in the tight hug before you went to the bathroom where you relaxed from the flight with a hot shower. Fresh in sweatpants and a shirt that was too wide, you came out to your sisters and sat in the middle of the two. „I missed you so much.“
„We too, angel.“ Kara said and gave you a kiss on your still wet hair as she pulled you into her arms by the shoulders.
You clutched her hip and put your head on her abdomen. You listened to your alien sisters heartbeat as you catched up on the last few months of not cuddling.
„How did you get the idea to show up here without us not noticing? How did you managed to get in without a key and who helped you with it?“ Alex akes impressed and curious while she took two beers out of the fridge and opened it like an expert with hers still closed.
You smiled and thanked her while you got up and took a sip. „Little big secret of mine.“
The red-haired eyebrow rose and she looked at you intently. You stayed hard and pinched your eyes as you got closer to her face and looked at her.
„I hate you.“ She said losing. „You love me!“ you pouted before she pressed her cold hand in your face and threw you back into Kara’s arms.
„Of course I love you.“

New Orleans was all Lowell had ever known. Aside from only a few out of state vacations, the city had always been home. And honestly, growing up in Nola meant Lowell got the best of the both worlds: big city living with a small town feel thanks to the neighborhoods and wards of Nola. Families on their street were friendly and nosy, and honestly Lowell’s mom, Birdie, didn’t mind at all because one, she had nothing to hide, and two, was more than happy that when other people learned of her situation -- a widowed and working single mom -- they were more than willing to help out. Which was how instead of becoming a latchkey kid, between after school hours and school vacation, Lowell became a surrogate member of more than a few neighboring families. And while Birdie wished she had been able to make it home from the hospital for more dinners, she was always home in time to sit down at the kitchen table and help Lowell struggle through his assigned school work.
The story was always the same each new school year, with every parent-teacher conference and IEP meeting. Lowell was always a pleasure to have in class, but he was either struggling with math or reading comprehension or his overall attention was lacking. But while Lowell and the general classroom weren’t on the best of terms, he excelled in other areas. Given his size and the fact that he towered over most of his classmates, it wasn’t shocking when the gym teacher had glowing remarks and commented that Lowell’s abilities were well beyond his years, but Birdie was surprised to learn from the music teacher that her son was both attentive and eager to learn in her class, too. After informing Lowell that participation in extracurriculars was dependent upon remaining in good academic standing, sports and music became an award system of sorts. It also didn’t hurt that burning through energy on the field or court, or banging it out with his drums meant that Lowell was less inclined to take out his frustrations of not understanding a word problem or summary question on a kitchen chair or wall.
The summer before eighth grade Lowell started to notice that his mom was coming home early from shifts now and again, getting gussied up, and leaving him with instructions for cooking frozen pizza or bagel bites while she went out. She was always home in time to look over homework and make sure Lowell was in bed on time, so Lowell never wondered too hard about it. Until the day she came home and said they’d be having a guest for dinner. Lowell met whom would become his step-dad that night. Two weeks later he met whom would become his step-sister. And before the start of the new school year, but after a small ceremony in the backyard, the new family had packed up all their belongings to move nearly 2000 miles up north. Chuck, an anesthesiologist,  had a new job at Kane-Russell Memorial in Somerton, and there was no doubt that he could pull strings and get Birdie on the RN rotation there, too.
While having a new family should have been the biggest change in Lowell’s life, everything about Maine was so different from Louisiana. Somedays it felt like Lowell was waking up in a whole new country, especially with his accent and missing his favorite local foods. But eventually school started and Lowell fell back into familiar routines of sports, music, and school work, and soon enough it wasn’t so scary putting roots down in a new place with a new family.
By the time Lowell graduated high school he had a scholarship for Somerton U. Even though he could have lived at home, he lived on-campus to have the full college experience, which also included playing as 4-year starter Seahorse on the basketball team. Lowell might have graduated with a social sciences degree, but after their team bus came upon an accident one winter night and Lowell witnessed firsthand everything the emergency response squads were doing to not only save people, but just to calm their nerves, he sort of felt like maybe he had a found something that could be a good fit for him. Lowell was already working towards his EMT certification when he graduated, and after moving back home began to apply to the Somerton firehouse. Lowell’s been part of the Somerton Fire, Rescue, and EMT Services family for ten years now and loves that every day is a bit of a new adventure. When he’s not working, Lowell’s playing drums in a cover band that sometimes performs at On the Rocks or hanging out with dog, Gus.

First things first, getting to this show was a nightmare.
It was raining relatively hard at points, which made it really cold. On the way from picking up my brother there was some kind of huge accident on this two lane road that gets ALL of the traffic leaving Brockport at rush hour. Everyone had to pull off and then K-turn around one at a time and detour. Then upon getting to the city, they blocked off the road in front of the arena and it was near IMPOSSIBLE to get into the road to get to the parking garage. By the time we got in it was too late to bother stalking out back even though it had stopped raining.
I always forget that unlike Buffalo, Rochester only ever has ONE merch stand up. We stood there for a good 15 minutes just to get my program. At one point I left him with the money while I ran to find a restroom because SURPRISE PERIOD UTERUS SUPERKICK PARTY.
We get in and the world’s oldest usher is at our section. I went to what I thought were our seats (though, way closer to the stage than I thought). Sure enough some family comes over with a real pissed mother practically yelling at me that I’m in her seat. Turns out we were one section over. World’s oldest usher directs us to our actual seats after I say hi to one of the local wrasslers I still have friended on Facebook that I ALWAYS run into at every show who was in the same damn section. People are in them. I ask what number they are because I’m beyond confused now. Turns out they were 13/14 Row B, not D (lucky them got to be closer, lmao). So I missed Erick’s entrance (and everyone’s except Luke, but that’sall that maters tbh.)
It was just the dark match but they actually introduced him as from Rochester and EVERYONE exploded. Saw a couple signs. TONS of “WE WANT LUKE!” chants. I got a vid on Snapchat of some of that. I’m a proud soccer mom.
Got myself a souvenir cup which they would not fill with beer for me, lmao.
Smackdown itself was mediocre at best. I got a lot of butt photos bc camera side. Not sure if I ever popped up on tv but I doubt it. (Jess said she thought she saw me when New Day came out but if she did I couldn’t find it after a quick look.) Lana got a HUGE pop. Luckily I was sitting in front of a group of fans of pretty much everyone I love who also shit on a weak ass CM Punk chant some dude tried to start. They also made friends with some little kid and it was adorable and they were so supportive of everyone the kid liked, it was great. Jinder was decently over. Fashion Files was over. Womens ladder match was over. A guy in front of me damn near died at the first pyro of the night that went off and it was fucking hilarious.Sadly, I also fell victim to pyro during Shinsuke’s entrance when I was trying to take a pic of his rope pose because I didn’t expect it to go off right then and there, lmao. The photo, needless to say, is a blur. Most people left before the smoke arena filled post pyro 205 live. I took a piss break during TJP’s entrance. Orton won by DQ in the dark match after Bollywood Boyz interfered. Two women with Uncle Sam hats on in second row got Orton to sign their sign but then rooted for Jinder the entire match, lmfao.
They wouldn’t let people stalk the back after the show. They were making people keep walking down the sidewalk, which I’ve never seen them do before. It was obnoxious. Even yelling at people who stopped to talk on their phone to say they just got out of the show and shit. So we ended up walking around the ENTIRE building in the freezing fucking sprinkling rain to get back to the parking garage since we didn’t go through the tunnel under the building like when we came in initially.
Drove out, got some McDonald’s, introduced the bro to Hot Pepper Gaming and UUDD as we ate in in the Wegmans parking lot. Dropped him off. Got back around 1:30. Very tired, very headachey. Not the best show ever but still worth it.

ABC of Me
Tagged by @talvin-muircastle!
A- Age: Shh.
B- Biggest Fear: I’m actually not completely sure, but probably a fear of not being “good enough” generally or people hating/ignoring me.
C- Current Time: Was roughly 7:00 (forgot to fill this out at the time).
D- Drink you last had: Water. Hydration is key. If we’re talking about something other than water, I believe it might have been root beer.
E- Everyday starts with: Getting out of bed, which can be a lazy roll and stand-up process or a near pole-vault out.
F- Favorite Song: This is a toughie. I’m not sure I have a favorite song because I tend to fixate on a number of songs or one particular song for short bursts of time. My favorite band, however, is Queen.
G- Ghosts, are they real?: I’ve never seen one myself, but I am of the opinion that they are very likely to be real in some form or another. Just because you can’t see them doesn’t mean they aren’t there.
H- Hometown: I’ll give you a hint; it starts with an “S”.
I- In love with: Nobody.
J- Jealous of: People who seem to be able to go out and be fun and silly with friends. Also really good artists and, to some extent, good athletes.
K- Killed someone: I certainly think not in reality. Video games are a different story.
L- Last time you cried: Yesterday, actually. Just a little depressed.
M- Middle Name: Not yet to be revealed.
N- Number of siblings: Counting adopted siblings (friends), around four. If we add on fictional siblings the number grows to the seven to nine range.
O- One wish: No more war or fighting for the sake of profit. Let’s focus on the other big issues at hand, world. There are a lot of them.
P- Person you last called/texted: A friend of mine both online and off.
Q- Question you’re always asked: I can’t say there is one I’m asked frequently, but I people mistake me as things I’m not, though most of the time it’s flattering.
R- Reason to smile: Friends. Family. My fandoms.
S- Song You Last Sang: If we’re counting singing alone without accompaniment by a YouTube video, probably snippets of Drop Pop Candy as performed by Reol and Giga. Singing along was this morning with Absolutely Invincible British Gentleman by the seiyuu for Hetalia England though.
T- Time you woke up: Six in the morning on weekdays.
U- Underwear color? Let’s change this to Undertale AU of choice: AskFriskandCompany.
V- Vacation Destination: Japan definitely . After that, I’d want to visit the other Disneylands of the world (assuming I’d visit Tokyo Disneyland while in Japan), so I’d likely go to France and China. Other European countries and Canada would follow that.
W- Worst Habit: Complaining too much or saying sorry. I’ll let those close to me decide.
X- X-rays: As far as I remember, I have only ever needed the one for my broken right wrist.
Y- Your favorite food: I say by default sushi, but I’m a sucker for a number of foods. Certain pastries are also my weakness.
Z- Zodiac Sign: Just going by Star Sign here, I’m a stereotypical Aquarius, though I don’t often fit the horoscope memes you see around the Internet.
I tag @lepianonoir, @heatherpluslife, @deciulite, and @rocketships-and-radios!

Georgia Meshotto, 75, has seen a lot over the years, serving under four mayors and four city managers since she arrived at City Hall, November 1, 1982.
Meshotto is the Italian name she acquired from her husband, Joe. They’ve been happily married for 55 years. She proudly tells people that she’s a fourth Italian and three quarters Greek. Her grandparents on both sides immigrated from Greece and she’s not ashamed to say that the 2002 comedy drama “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” featuring the Portokalos family and starring Nia Vardalos, is allowed at her house.
Meshotto could have retired years ago but continued to work into her 70s. Her father retired in his 70s as president of Doerr Electric, a division of Grainger Company. Her mother lived until age 92.
Arriving at City Hall in 1982, it was an election year. Roger Haley, who would become City Manager, was serving on the City Council. Ronald Reagan was president. At the time, she was earning $7.50 an hour working part-time as a Secretary processing payroll for Home Roofing Company. Owner and then City Councilman Joe Jackson, who became Mayor in 1983, told Georgia there was a job opening in the City Tax Department.
“I was a bit disappointed to learn that the job only paid $5.00 an hour,” said Meshotto. “But at that time, I had no health insurance and no pension where I worked. The City offered both benefits.”
Meshotto interviewed with City Recorder John Barber and accepted the full-time job right during the middle of tax season. She had been busy raising three children, but the time was right as Mark, Rodney and Kimberly were all either in high school or graduated. Today, Mark, 55, is an SRO for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department; Rodney, 53, works for Mars Petcare in Franklin, and Kimberly, 46, a homemaker, works at St. Michael’s Catholic School in Massachusetts. Georgia and Joe have five adult grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
“In 1982 John Barber wrote up the minutes from the City Council meetings then I typed the minutes, so they could be taped into large books for archiving,” said Meshotto.
By 1984, she attended the meetings herself. Minutes were recorded so she could listen to the audio, type the minutes at her desk, then add them to the books. As she prepares to retire after 36 years of service, Meshotto can reflect on the importance of “being a tree that bends,” as she likes to say it. Since 2014, she has prepared the City Council agenda electronically, making sure the agenda is ordered and book marked in PDF—all 40 to 500 pages depending the work before the Council.
“The City has been a great place to work despite the many changes at City Hall,” Meshotto laments. “When I started it was one big family but its less a family and more a business today. Bringing in people from the outside has brought good ideas but Murfreesboro happened before they came here.”
It’s Meshotto’s way of saying that some of the old ideas were good ones too. They got the City where it became an attractive and growing place for people from outside. In fact, she was an outsider once herself, moving to Murfreesboro in 1957 from Sycamore, Illinois, outside Chicago. At age 15, her father transferred to Murfreesboro to work as an engineer for General Electric, which was located off Broad Street.
She vividly remembers traveling to Murfreesboro on a train from Chicago to Union Station in Nashville. To this day she loves old trains. In 1957, City Hall operated where the current Murfreesboro Fire Rescue office is located on Broad Street. The James K. Polk Hotel was still standing before demolition in 1977. Meshotto also fondly recalls the Princess Theater and Frost Top, a popular root beer stand near Lytle and Broad Street.
The oldest of four children, Georgia Mathews (her maiden name) attended Central High School, graduating in 1961. While in high school, Meshotto worked at Grabers, a department store on the Square, but wanted to become a nurse. It wasn’t to be, however.
“I purposely failed the nursing test to avoid going to Nashville because I wanted to be with my boyfriend,” Joseph Meshotto, who was going to MTSU. Georgia attended MTSU from 1961-62.
Prior to working at City Hall, Meshotto worked for Samsonite, a luggage and furniture company, and for Murfreesboro Medical Clinic before landing at Home Roofing on Castle Street. Joe B. Jackson was one of the owners. From 1968 to 1982, Meshotto worked part-time for Jackson who served on the Council and as Mayor from 1983-1998.
Meshotto served under Mayors Jackson, Richard Reeves, Tommy Bragg and current Mayor Shane McFarland. She has also worked with city managers Clyde Fite, Roger Haley, Rob Lyons and Craig Tindall.
Born May 26, 1943, in Madison, Wisconsin, she also lived in Racine, Wisconsin, Chicago, and Chicago suburbs Melrose Park and Sycamore, Illinois before settling in Murfreesboro. Meshotto has been a longtime member of St. Rose Catholic Church and plans to spend retirement going to the lake house at Center Hill, fishing, gardening and working around her home. “That’s my pride and joy,” she says with confidence.
On Dec. 17, 2018, the City will honor Meshotto with a special retirement reception from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers. All of us at City Hall wish her the very best in retirement.
Georgia Meshotto retires after 36 years of Service Georgia Meshotto, 75, has seen a lot over the years, serving under four mayors and four city managers since she arrived at City Hall, November 1, 1982.

December 2017 in Review, From Sushi Burritos to Sake Sangria
Tumblr media
The month in openings, closings, top news, and more
2017 did not end with a whimper. December was jam-packed with openings, including a number of highly anticipated spots, such as Jewish delicatessen Our Fathers in Allston; a sushi-focused sibling to Loco Taqueria, Fat Baby; and a Back Bay sequel to the acclaimed Moody’s Delicatessen out in Waltham. And neighborhoods that are generally pretty quiet on the restaurant opening front got some new spots as well, such as a sushi burrito joint called Sunny Cafe in Eastie and a seasonal beer hall from Trillium in the old Roslindale substation.
But there were some sad goodbyes as well. Mainstays like East Coast Kitchen and Sunset Grill & Tap are now closed. And increasing rent forced ramen destination Pikaichi out of its Allston space (although it’ll try to relocate), while financial struggles ended the run of Dudley Dough, a fair-wage pizza shop in Roxbury that is tied to the Haley House.
Read on for a summary of December 2017, including the most-read news stories and maps, the openings, and the closings.

Fried chicken from Highland Fried, which replaced East Coast Grill in Inman Square this month
Allium Market & Cafe (1330 Beacon St., Coolidge Corner, Brookline): A specialty food market, cheese shop, and cafe inspired by Zingerman’s Delicatessen in Michigan.
American Fresh Brewhouse (490 Foley St., Assembly Row): The latest project from Somerville Brewing Company, aka Slumbrew, is an Assembly Row brewpub with a full kitchen and tons of beer. Find it among the never-ending construction right by the Assembly T station.
Chick Chick Boom (80 River St., Cambridgeport): A chicken wing joint from the Thelonious Monkfish team.
Fat Baby (118 Dorchester St., South Boston): This Loco Taqueria sibling serves up sushi, cocktails, and more in a loud, energetic space in Southie.
Highland Fried (1217 Cambridge St., Inman Square, Cambridge): Earlier this year, the Highland Kitchen team took over East Coast Grill; now, they’ve revamped it into Highland Fried, zeroing in on fried chicken, barbecue, and Tiki drinks.
Kaju Tofu House (636 Beacon St., Kenmore Square, Boston): With one location in Allston and one recently defunct one in Harvard Square, Kaju Tofu House is back up to two locations with this new one in Kenmore, serving a range of Korean food.
Kor Tor Mor (24 College Ave., Davis Square, Somerville): Thai food with a focus on Bangkok street foods in the former Golden Light space.
La Bodega (21 Nichols Ave., Watertown): It’s not exactly fully open yet, but La Bodega — from the duo behind the dearly departed Salts in Cambridge — is partially up and running, previewing its Uruguayan-meets-Spanish-meets-French-Basque cuisine and wine cellar.
La Colombe (29 Northern Ave., Seaport District, Boston): Boston’s second location of the Philadelphia-based coffee roaster and cafe chain. It’s also coming to Back Bay.
L&K (30 Dedham Ave., Needham): A rebranding of RFK Kitchen, which lost its namesake chef-owner Rachel Klein months ago. L&K stands for “lounge and kitchen.”
Moody’s Delicatessen (500 Boylston St., Back Bay, Boston): Waltham’s acclaimed delicatessen and charcuterie destination now has a Boston proper sibling serving up deli sandwiches and more. Note: Only open on weekdays.
Mooyah Burgers, Fries & Shakes (140 Tremont St., Downtown Boston; 48 Highland Commons East, Berlin): There were several Mass. locations for the Texas-based burger chain, and now there are two more. The Boston one is right by the Common.
The Okipoké(8 Cornerstone Sq., Unit B, Westford): More poke and sushi burritos.
Our Fathers (197 N. Harvard St., Lower Allston): A twofer from the Tasty Burger/Citizen Public House/Franklin Cafe team — a Jewish delicatessen on one side (takeout) and a full-service modern Israeli restaurant and bar on the other side. The bar’s got a strong gin focus.
Shaking Crab (1815 Massachusetts Ave., Porter Square, Cambridge): This local, fast-growing restaurant group serves up Cajun-inspired spicy boiled seafood, and the latest opening is in the former Tavern in the Square location in Porter, which means Shaking Crab has around 50 draft lines.
Snappy Kitchen (234 Elm St., Davis Square, Somerville): Snappy Ramen hopped across Davis into a larger space and expanded its menu to include sushi, gyoza, and more — changing its name in the process. There’s still ramen, though.
Sunny Cafe (1000 Bennington St., East Boston): Sushi burritos, poke, bubble tea, and more.
Sushi Kappo (86 Peterborough St., Fenway, Boston): A casual spot from the team behind Ebi Sushi in Union Square. The new place serves sushi burritos, poke bowls, ramen, and more.

16 Handles (1309 Beacon St., Coolidge Corner, Brookline): Another nail in the coffin of the froyo era.

Dudley Dough (2302 Washington St., Roxbury, Boston): The Haley House’s fair-wage pizzeria closed due to financial struggles.
East Coast Grill (1271 Cambridge St., Inman Square, Cambridge): It’s really gone this time, sort of. The Highland Kitchen owners had taken it over at the start of the year, and now they’ve rebranded it into Highland Fried, which still feels enough like East Coast Grill that its ghost lives on in barbecue and Tiki drinks.
Emerald Lounge (200 Stuart St., Theatre District, Boston): The Revere Hotel’s nightclub closed in December, and the hotel plans to replace it with a new restaurant in spring 2018.

Kamado Super Fusion (779 Centre St, Jamaica Plain, Boston): This sushi spot was open for a few years. It’ll be replaced by an Asian noodle soup spot called Asian Noodle Soup.
La Motta’s (1357 Washington St., South End, Boston): This Italian restaurant opened in late 2015 under the same ownership of the longtime previous occupant of the space, Union Bar & Grill. Now, it’ll be taken over by the Alpine Restaurant Group, reportedly opening a new Burro Bar there.

❝ Sitting in the car, sitting out smoking in the garden of the apartment: He’s in for a heartbreak if it’s all been blind faith. ❞
B A S I C S –
Name: Holden Elias Kinney. Birthday: June 23rd, 1973. Pronouns: He/Him. Gender/Sex: Cisgender/Male. Occupation: Blockbuster Clerk.
P E R S O N A L I T Y —
+ Imaginative and sociable. - Skittish and obstinate.
B A C K G R O U N D —
FLAWED PREGNANCY, SUBSTANCE ABUSE TW // A troubled pregnancy resulted in Holden becoming an addition to the Kinney family sooner than expected: Toxemia forced doctors to act quicker, resulting in Sheffield welcoming the boy three and a half weeks before the due date. A premature infant spending more time in a hospital than others, a bronchial infection was what kept the medical staff worried. But luck was with the young boy, the illness passing without becoming chronic. Nevertheless, Holden still appeared to be weaker than toddlers his age, often relying on prescriptions and help from others. Partly closed-off, the pale young boy used his softer, more sentimental side to please people around him: Making him every young mother’s favorite on the playground. Sympathy was earned, yet never begged for. But he grew older: And once he reached the age of six, the brunet was cleared of everything that made him different from children his age as lungs completely re-gained full potential.
Puberty seemed to mean well with Holden, a growth spurt and handsome features awaiting the male: Advantages he was quick to use, stumbling into several teen romances and a new group of friends. But not all of them stood out as a mother-in-law’s dream, resulting in Holden blindly following them through phases he should’ve avoided: A seemingly harmless beer with classmates turned into more, until grey, little pills were sold, ones that were intended to heal if used correctly. A one-time incident turned into a fatal mistake and a long-term hospital visit for a boy he didn’t quite know that well, an incident he’d later never speak about again. Instincts forced a scared teenager to walk away from the happenings, never involving himself in any kind of form of hard drugs. He won’t talk about it until this today, yet the blame still nags on pale limbs and it only fuels his insecurity.
Passing age sixteen, life seemed okay: He was no genius and social activities often made schoolwork suffer, yet dropping grades didn’t seem to bring down his hype. Torn between sports and art, Holden surrounded himself by just the right people. He didn’t believe in science, unlike his father the brunet strived to express himself through his imaginative side: One he was willing to explore after deciding to postpone college for a bit. And even though mistakes still seem to outweigh achievements, he forces himself to not let a hazy feeling take over.
A R R I V A L — ( 1 9 7 3 )
Holden was born & raised in Sheffield, it’s his home and the place where his family is located. Even though he doesn’t plan on leaving anytime soon, seeing more of the world is something he hopes to achieve one day.
C O N N E C T I O N S —
Ronald Kinney – Holden is thankful for everything his father’s done for him, even though he didn’t always make it easy for him: Despite going through teenage stubbornness and several phases, his father tends to always be there for him and stand as the best person he knows. Robin Kinney – The two siblings get along better than one would expect: Even though he likes to tease his older sister because of just minor things, he still appreciates the older caring for him. Sawyer Kinney – Even though the two of them aren’t biologically related, the young adult still considers Sawyer a huge part of his life. Ever since his father adopted his cousin, they’ve been living under the same roof and Holden enjoys her presence. Julian Apolskis – Friends since younger years, he considers Julian a personality he likes to hang out with, even after a good session. Julian’s part of their band. Maverick Dunn –  He trusts the others taste in music & arts and enjoys jamming out with Maverick. The two of them met through a connection to Maverick’s ex-boyfriend and the older’s friendship to Sawyer. They’re currently bandmates.
E X T R A B I T S —
–– His biggest passion is music: At the age of thirteen, he insisted on learning how to play the bass guitar, followed by managing the drums. Practice makes perfect, a fact that usually tends to the rest of the family living with him. Talent resulted in forming a group of close friends, one that he has high hopes for. –– Despite the fact that it’s more than unhealthy and reckless to pick up smoking after recovering from bronchial infection as a child, it’s the one habit he can’t shake off and doesn’t want anyone in his family to know about: Especially not his father. –– Is a huge NBA fan and currently rooting for the New York Knicks: The one sport Holden really can’t stand is football, so he prefers basketball over the more popular choice.

National Heat Awareness Day
National Heat Awareness Day is observed annually on the last Friday of May, which falls on May 31 this year. National Heat Awareness Day is an effort by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Weather Service to alert workers, employers, and the public at large about the (preventable) health dangers related to heat, in order to reduce the overall rate of illnesses and deaths caused by it. This day was specially founded as a reminder that many outdoor workers or laborers are at risk of serious heat-induced conditions like heat exhaustion, dehydration, heatstroke, and even death. We bring you tips on how spreading awareness about these conditions and their prevention can help mitigate such unnecessary medical emergencies.
History of National Heat Awareness Day
National Heat Awareness Day was founded by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Weather Service, an agency of the U.S. Federal Government. While there is no record of its first observance, the importance of this day and what it stands for is why we are including it.
The reality is that every year, in the U.S. alone, people suffer and die from heat-induced illnesses, which could easily have been prevented with the right protective measures and intervention. Groups that are especially vulnerable to heat are outdoor workers (like farmers and manual laborers), young children, elderly adults, people with chronic medical conditions, and pregnant women. Heatwaves have been on the rise over the past few decades, with a definite correlation to climate change and the crisis of global warming. In the U.S. itself, recent history shows the shocking death toll due to heatwaves. While various measures are being taken to adapt to rising temperatures and humidity, there is a need for awareness to be spread in order to mitigate the losses.
Therefore, this day was created in order to spread awareness to overcome the high-temperature-related issues. This day is also observed to encourage the consumption of water to avoid heat-related illness. Americans seem to still underestimate the health risks related to conditions of extreme heat or temperatures, even though it’s the deadliest weather condition in the country. With factors like pollution causing temperatures to rise earlier each year, the onslaught of the heat of summer is coming faster every year. For this reason, it is imperative that the nation at large begins to sit up and take notice of the fact that there are many groups in need of protection from an unexpected killer.
National Heat Awareness Day timeline
1600s The Term ‘Heatwave’ is Born
The term heatwave originates in America.
198o Heatwaves Turn Deadly
A heatwave kills 1,250 in the U.S.
1995 Chicago’s Killer Heatwave
A heatwave in Chicago kills 700 people.
2003 Worst Heatwave in Europe
A heatwave across Europe becomes responsible for over 50,000 deaths.
National Heat Awareness Day FAQs
What are three signs of heatstroke?
Symptoms of both heat exhaustion and heat stroke include fatigue/weakness, headaches, and confusion or dizziness. However, in the case of heat exhaustion, your heartbeat slows down, muscles can cramp and there is excessive sweating accompanied by intense thirst. In the case of heatstroke, your heartbeat quickens, you can experience shortness of breath and your skin feels hot, with decreased sweating and urination. In both cases, the person affected should be moved to a cool, shaded location, given sips of water to drink and their skin needs to be cooled with water or ice (until medical help arrives).
Why is heatwave dangerous?
“Heatwaves can kill via the dehydration caused by heavy sweating; the altered sodium and potassium concentrations in the blood confuse both heart and nerve cells, and so breathing or heartbeat may suddenly stop,” according to DownToEarth.
What is the highest heatwave ever recorded?
The National Weather Service recorded a temperature of 130℉ in Death Valley National Park, California, in 2020. This could be the highest temperature ever reliably recorded on earth!
How to Observe National Heat Awareness Day
Chug, chug, chug that H2O
Commit to protecting the vulnerable
Get the word out
Dehydration is one of the most preventable things, which, if left ignored, can lead to more serious health issues. Therefore it is recommended by experts everywhere that eight glasses of water a day is a good standard to maintain. Not only does your body stay hydrated, but water also helps flush toxins out of the body.
There are many online campaigns and grassroots petitions being signed to support the need for outdoor workers to have adequate laws to protect them from heat and other work- environment-related health hazards. Read up and get involved, because every voice does matter!
With powerful tools like social media at our disposal, we can rally our communities (both virtual and real) to spread awareness about the very real risks of heat-related medical conditions that could affect anyone at any time. Train yourself and someone you know to recognize the signs and take action — a little bit can go a long way.
5 Tips On Beating The Heat This Summer
Stay hydrated
Keep your fashion light and breezy
Slather on sunscreen
Avoid going outdoors in peak times
Limit your activity
The manifold benefits of drinking enough water and fluids cannot be stressed enough.
Wear loose-fitting and lightweight clothing, made with breathable fabrics like cotton.
The importance of sunscreen as protection against the sun is never going to get old.
Avoid stepping out into the sun during its peak hours, especially without protection.
Leave the intense workouts for early mornings or nights, and take it easy during the midday heat.
Why National Heat Awareness Day Is Important
Lobbies to protect the vulnerable
It educates us on prevention methods
It resonates with people everywhere
Several years ago, OSHA began a Heat Illness Prevention Campaign to spread awareness about the dangers of working in conditions of extreme heat. Their petition for change could be boiled down to three simple demands for workers — shade, rest, and water. The onus falls on employers to ensure that their workers are receiving these basic requirements and are being protected from extreme heat and other hazardous conditions.
By reinforcing such basic preventative measures, National Heat Awareness Day brings the reality of things we take for granted (like water) to the forefront and makes us more mindful of our own health.
Heatwaves and heat-related health issues are on the rise all over the world, thanks to climate change. Therefore the message of National Heat Awareness Day is relevant to people across the globe, especially as many nations do not even have access to resources like drinking water and electricity. It opens one’s eyes to the larger realities of social injustice and climate change.

'Black Cow' Root Beer Float Day
Today we celebrate the black cow, which in many locations is simply another name for a root beer float—a drink consisting of root beer and vanilla ice cream. They are sometimes called chocolate cows or brown cows when chocolate ice cream is used in place of vanilla. In some locations, a black or brown cow is made with cola instead of root beer. In other locations, root beer and ice cream are mixed together, instead of the ice cream sitting on top.
Frank J. Wisner, the owner of Cripple Creek Brewing in Colorado, made the first black cow on today's date in 1893, after observing the snow caps of Cow Mountain the night before, and thinking they looked like ice cream scoops on top of soda. The first drinks were made by combining Myers Avenue Red root beer and vanilla ice cream. He soon began making the drink using cola. The drink became known as the Black Cow Mountain drink, and it is said that children shortened the name to the black cow.
How to Observe 'Black Cow' Root Beer Float Day
Celebrate the day by having a black cow! Pour root beer—such as Myers Avenue Red, the first root beer used to make black cows—into a glass, add ice cream, and then top it off with more soda. You could also buy one at a restaurant, such as at A&W, where they are particularly popular in the United States and Canada.
