You know how Azula is only like 14.
I desperately want a dc x avatar crossover where Jason Todd is like, guess I'm a dad now.
for more then a couple reasons
First of all the character growth. Jason learns not all people who hallucinate are like the joker. Azula learns that how her father treated her is not normal
Azula deserves someone who understands the mommy issues
Girl dad jason
Tell me Jason wouldn't take one look at this girl whose been praised for her talent for destruction and then demonized for it and be like been there done that.
For the sake of teaching Azula to channel the aggression in a semi constructive way.
Also Azula who was dismissed by her mother for being too aggressive and Jason who was dismissed by Bruce for the exact same reason
I firmly believe Azula is redeemable, it's just that no one bothered with the hard work and she was left in the hands of a monster.

In my opinion, Azula's love language is quality time. (This is a sequel to the Zuko love language post)
Even since her childhood, Azula seemed to be a rather social child. As opposed to Zuko, who didn't seem to have any friends of his own and didn't feel the need to spend time with others except his mother, Azula was seen initiating playtime multiple times. One particular moment of interest is when she pulled Zuko along with her to spy on Ozai and Azulon. There was no need for her to do this, and it would only make it easier for them to get caught, so it only stands to reason that she wanted to spend some mischevious time with her brother.
Tumblr media
We also see that Azula seems to act out if she feels left out, such as when Zuko and Ursa excluded her in a flashback in the comics, so she set a bush on fire.
We see that not much has changed after Azula grows up a bit. When given the slightest excuse, she goes out of her way to essentially go on a roadtrip with her friends. She seems to genuinely enjoy having Zuko around, and encourages him to return home, after which she will occasionally approach him to check in. I think the beach showcased a lot of this quality. Azula, despite wanting her father's approval, she doesn't seem as upset to be sent away as Zuko. In fact, she is often the initiator of the group doing 'normal' kid activities. She was the one to initiate the group playing Kuai Ball and seemed excited to go to the party. After the fiasco at the party, she approaches Zuko and invites him to come down to the beach with her and the others.
Tumblr media
We also shouldn't forget is that the final straw that lead to Azula's breakdown was Ozai passing up on daddy daughter bonding time during the day of Sozin's Comet.
As Azula's breakdown ensues, she is esentially abandoned by all thouse she cared about. This being the physical manifestation of Azula feeling unloved and uncared for by those she loved is a very good reason to break down, isn't it.

I’m glad to see animated kids actually look like kids. It makes the fact that they are child soldiers more real and shocking.

My little cousin (15) is watching atla for the first time. She's just started season 2. Here are her opinions of the characters so far:
Aang: "bald. Very bald."
Katara: "bad bitches do it so well"
Sokka: "attractive but in an older cousin type of way" (??????)
Zuko: "also bald. Angry and bald. Although he changed his hair now so just angry i guess."
Azula: "i will use my right to remain silent."
Uncle Iroh: "how old is he? Like 80? I'm gonna say 80."
Admiral Zhao: "musty dusty crusty" her exact words.
Yue: "she's coming back right?" Oh sweet summer child.
Jet: "all i remember is that stupid wheat thing in his mouth."
Haru: "who?"
King Bumi: "he looks like his mother got electrocuted when he was in the womb"
Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors: "all power to them bc i would not stand a chance fighting in a heavy dress"

AU that @edy-lyy and I created - Katara and Azula meet up one night in an Earth Kingdom town and decide on a truce just for that night. They end up getting drunk and, without thinking, get married. The next morning, the two are ready to never see each other again or think about their “wedding” only to find that, in the eyes of the spirits, they’re now married which includes a spirit bond that doesn’t allow them to go more than 20 feet from one another or hurt each other.

Azula antis: She’s pure evil.
Me: ...Well, Zuko changed so why can’t she get a chance?
Antis: Uh- she was born evil! She had no empathy!
Me: My guy, she was raised by literal Ozai and was neglected by her mom along with Iroh. Zuko could’ve been the same and so could’ve ANYONE. That was the whole point of that one episode showing Roku’s backstory. She’s also still only 14 in the finale and 16 in the comics.
Antis: Erm- uh...She rejected redemption! Yeah- she’s pure evil for that!
Me: Zuko rejected redemption in season 2. But he still changed.
Antis:

The thing is if your story is about teenage protagonists and antagonists you really can't go too deep into the "omg they are children why are they responsible for this??" "Omg they are children why are they getting blamed for [evil thing they did]" bc if you do that to much, your entire world is gonna unravel
You really only have a few options. You can
a) kill all the adults, tell a post apocalyptic story, very effective
b) ignore the fact that the adults should really be taking care of this, trust the audience to suspend disbelief or
c) have all the adults canonically be assholes
So... Why is Kipperlily fully seen as making her own choices and being responsible for choosing the ragestar and killing her party despite being 17 and probably influenced by the adults around her?
Bc well, if you excuse everything she's done, you'll have to do that with every future teenage villain in this world too. And you'll have to do the same with the bad kids! They're just children, Kristen shouldn't be held responsible for Cassandra getting corrupted again she's a child! Fabian shouldn't be responsible for all those pirates in leviathan getting killed he's a kid they shouldn't have listened to him!
And like. On a meta level saying all that is all good and fine, we can go well the adults are all assholes if we want but you can't pull that into the story if you want to still have any adult characters believably be good guys.
Doesn't mean this was the only way to handle Kipperlily but I do think any redemption would have needed more time and investment from the bad kids which, bc they are also teenagers and they never saw any reason to be sympathetic towards her, isn't there
Doesn't mean Kipperlily can't ever be redeemed but just "well she's just a kid" isn't enough to do it believably and well and an epilogue isn't enough time to do it in. If they'd brought her back she'd have either gotten a waaayy too speedrun not very believable redemption arc and/or the bad kids would have looked really naive
Let her be in hell, she'll probably rule the place in no time, she'll be happy there

one of the reasons atla has stuck with me for so long is that in the final battle between azula and zuko, its not treated like an epic battle. there's no uplifting music behind it that most final battles have. its not a score of "finally our hero is defeating the villain", its more somber
its treated like the tragedy that it is
