I understand that a lot of things are called AI, and none of them are actually "artificial intelligence", but I do want to point out that a lot of the "AI = complex scientific models that have been used for years" is genuinely the exact same thing as "Ai = generative tools"

The ai that gets applauded on here because it can detect sickle cell disease is constructed on the same basic principles as the ais that everyone on here hates, like chatgpt and dall-e

#I'd wager that some things falling into the 'things that automate tedious processes' example are also constructed the same way #but im not positive #i am fairly positive that there are nearly zero games that use the same structure to handle npc behavior though #that seems way too complex for how npcs work in the vast majority of games and would probably backfire more often than be useful

we never should have let programmers (or programmers bosses more likely) get away with calling AI fuck-ups "hallucinations". that makes it sound like the poor innocent machine is sick, oh no, give him another chance, it's not his fault.

but in reality the program is wrong. it has given you the wrong answer because it is incorrect and needs more work. its not "the definitely real and smart computer brain made a mistake" its the people behind the AI abdicating responsibility.

#i am pissed about the google ai summary shit #they were already having problems with summaries #u ever tried googling what to do if someone is having a seizure???#the old classic style summary would show you a list of actions saying ''do these things''#and if you clicked through to the source website you WOULD see that same list... under the heading ''do NOT do the following''#and they really thought automating that process further was a good idea huh????

i haven't played minecraft in years, but with the armadillo winning the vote, i think about how wolves don't really have much going on in terms of their utility. like anytime i tame a wolf, i end up just kinda keeping them sitting at home.

i think if mojang really does feel like wolves are deserving of armour, with the addition of armadillos, they really need to update wolves to be more useful as companion mobs, because personally... i never feel the urge to bring a wolf with me when im going out to do things, especially if it involves combat.

like, what do dogs do best? fetching stuff and digging, right? like i wish that i could just mill about with a wolf and they track a scent or something and start digging into the dirt and then proceed to bring you that item. like it could range from rarely digging up iron nuggets to digging up vegetables or whatever, yknow. combine the fetching stuff with combat and you wouldn't have to manually pick up stray arrows or items from mobs your wolf kills.

the only other thing i wish you could do with wolves is automate their health in some way, like give more utility to the bowl item so you can place it down for them to eat from so you don't have to constantly manage their health by looking at their tail. just minor quality of life stuff i guess.

idk, that's just my thoughts. i do like wolves in minecraft, they just feel rather lacking with the way some new mobs have so much going on, like the sniffer and allay and so on.

#id like to play minecraft at some point but sadly i dont think my current computer can run it due to not supporting opengl #but yeah. i usually keep this stuff to tags but i figured my thought process wouldve ended up with more than 30 tags #so thusly just. lone post of my thoughts.#but back on subject. i kinda think about how you could automate like... mob farms with wolves. but i run into dead ends #like how do you specify which mobs to have your wolf ignore. and how do you target them in the first place without attacking them #like. maybe the scope? like you zoom in on the mob you want attacked. idk. thats a tough one to figure out.#cause like it has to be something that can be easily executed. and easily managed.#like im imagining going to a pig pen and letting a wolf in to go kill and then bring back the items #but like you dont want the wolf to kill all of them... and yeah ik theres more efficient ways to farm mobs #i guess i just want it to be a bit more player involved. add some fun to it.#i like going around and doing things. automation is kinda less of my thing in most cases #especially with the complexity of some things right. like having a simple easy option would just be nice to have i guesz #its just all about how you go about executing it in gameplay #anyway thats all my damn brain power #minecraft #tagging that for myself for if i gotta find it later

Unfortunately all chatgpt is good for is interview/job application stuff which I think says a lot about the hiring process as a whole

#wrenfea.exe #as an actual artifical intelligence? no its horrible bc it really ISNT one #its a writing synthesizer it generates writing based on data searches and boundaries from training #thats what a neural network is its a very convoluted input-output sequence #it has no capacity to understand the meaning behind what it generates #it is simply generating the specific things that the user is looking for #the job interview process has become so robotic and automized that ai fits in perfectly #but employers HATE that people are turning to chatgpt for cover letters and interview answers #so it was fair for them to use filtering programs to accept/deny applications before it got in front of an actual human being #and its ok for them to use ai and pre-written formats to make job announcements descriptions and interview questions #but god forbid we are forced to use those exact same tools to get a humans attention so we can get a job and not starve #pushing aside the whole copyright debate on chatgpt and the environmental impact of its power usage btw #im soley analyzing how its become commonly utilized on both sides #by interviewer and interviewed #the mechanization of the whole process is now on both sides #it just seems very inhuman..#its also how some people have figured out how to somehow become employed multiple times by the same company due to lack of human oversight #and how automated theyve made their hiring process #probably should have made these tags into a separate reblog oops #also disclaimer do not cut and paste right into your application materials bc chatgpt often just lies #also many places now can tell you used chatgpt due to how similar its answers are #i only use it to make a template and see how things can be phrased to be more professional and buzzwordy #id never use it for something actually creative #and dear god do not write academic essays with it #i tried using it to supplement my own cover letter template but it was too robotic even for a cover letter #it is very good at accessing and summarizing publically available information #thats all it does not make sure the information is true or good

saving photos off the aew website

aew posts photos from dynamite/rampage in their photo gallery here: https://www.allelitewrestling.com/aew-photos

you can't right-click on anything in the wix gallery, which means you can't right-click save the images. however you can click and drag the image to a new browser tab, freeing it from the clutches of the wix gallery.

now you can right-click save the image, but its actually a "webp" file. bad! i hate webp!

you can access the jpg version of the image by simply deleting everything after the "~mv2.jpg" part of the url. so you want to keep only this highlighted part, basically:

now you are looking at the jpg version of the photo! it's not a webp and as a bonus its at its largest original size. congrats.

its kind of a pain in the ass to manually delete part of the url for every photo if youre saving a bunch of them. i use a bookmarklet to truncate the url automatically. here:

javascript:location.href = location.href.substring(0,location.href.indexOf("/v1"));

you use this by adding a new website bookmark in your browser, but instead of putting a website url you put that whole javascript line in there.

when you click this new bookmark, it'll look for the phrase "/v1" in your current tab's URL and delete it along with everything after it for you, and then load that url. handy!

it will do this for any website or url. so dont click it when you dont want to

i think my main continuing and unsolvable issue with ai image generation technology is like, most of its early rise in popularity was from the type of hypercapitalist techbro who shills crypto and NFTS and shit, and then everyone else just was like oh but i like it so it's okay. like i understand that it isn't actually meaningfully more consumptive of water than any other online usage that requires cooling for large/many servers, i respect that people who are actually interested in making art for the sake of making art can learn how to work with the technology, but i don't respect that it's the equivalent to how wojak and virgin/chad memes first blew up in usage among people whose main political stance is they should be allowed to call other people slurs and then mainstream meme culture just forgot about all that and adopted both of them

#also i don't like the idea of automating a process that is like core to the human experience but that's more an issue with how the tech is #used than with it existing in the first place. like corporations would've figured out that application for it regardless of if it was pushe
