Stealing/boosting id from consistantly-changing
[Image descriptions in order: two screenshots of a Reddit post by u/iambeaker titled "'Twas the night before my resignation…" The post reads "I was brainwashed at an early age that loyalty and hard work would add countless "0's" to your paycheck. I remained optimistic after receiving year after year of 3% raises and working holidays. I missed my children's first steps, their school functions, and other life events so I could make the CEO more money.
After the passing of my stepfather and my boss calling me during the funeral, asking me to troubleshoot an issue while my mom cried into my shoulder, enough was enough. I changed companies and made a personal pledge to put family first and my career a distant third or fourth.
Fast forward to present day…. I find myself as the cornerstone of our department. Many of our clients' processes are automated through custom API developed by me. I have maintained a thorough documentation library on how to support the API, the reports, and all of its dependencies. I have offered to train backup so we are not single threaded. My manager told me "No way, we would never do anything to lose you!" Up to now, life was good.
At the beginning of December, ABC Company was audited by the government and found to be out of compliance. They hired my company to regain their compliance by the end of the year or risk fines near $750,000. ABC Company dragged their feet getting us the information we needed to start on the work.
I save my vacation days so I can take the week between Christmas and New Years off. I spend it with my kids to make up for all the time I lost when I worked when they were younger. This time is very precious to me.]
["Last week and this week, I have been notifying the project manager and my manager about my time off. I let them know I would need ABC Company's information soon so I can start on it. I offered to work extra hours to ensure my piece would be finished prior to Christmas Eve.
On Tuesday, my manager calls me and tells me ABC Company finally sent the data over I requested over two weeks ago. He looked beaten because he knew what was about to happen. I told him who should I walk through the project with because I'm off after Christmas. My manager says, "I'm sorry. But I have to ask you to work. I declined your time next week."
I asked, "What happens to my vacation time?" My boss says, "I'm sorry. You know the rules. Use it or lose it. I fought for you but HR wouldn't budge."
I drafted my resignation letter after the call, set it to delay delivery on Monday at 8am, and closed up shop.
ABC Company will pay $700,00 because nobody knows how to program that system since there is no back up. Our other clients will be expecting their monthly, quarterly, and annual reports within the first week of January. No one knows how to do this. We had six projects in progress involving extensive API and reporting, now those projects are dead in the water. Seven clients prepaid for API and automation upgrades in 2022 Q1. I don't know what will happen to those.
Please remember. Family first. You never get that time back."]
[Several screenshots of a text conversation between OP and their boss. It goes:
Boss: Hope you have a great Christmas
Boss: [OP] please call me as soon as you can.
Boss: I received your email. I understand that you are upset but resigning is not the best choice in this circumstance.
Boss: [OP], I have been your friend for five years. I'm asking you as a friend, not a manager to reconsider and call me. Let's talk about this
Boss: Hey, you made your point. You can have today off if you call me and let me know when we can expect you tomorrow. But you need to call me.
Boss: This is ridiculous. Do you know what your actions are going to do to the company? To me? You made your point. Just call me and we will figure out your vacation. But we need]
[Boss: This is ridiculous. Do you know what your actions are going to do to the company? To me? You made your point. Just call me and we will figure out your vacation. But we need [task] done by Friday.
Boss: Why won't you answer your phone? Your wife won't answer hers either. HR needs to talk to you.
Boss: I got out of a meeting with [name]. If we don't get this done for [client] we get penalized and that $ comes from bonus and pay increases. I want you to know that. If you don't finish that, nobody gets a bonus or a pay increase this year. This will be common knowledge
Boss: [OP], I've been talking to [name] We assume you resigned because you were going to lose your vacation. Here's the deal… if you call me by 3, we will rollover your vacation to 2022, but we still need you to work T-F. We need [task] done before 12/31. Call me before 3]
[Boss: [name] sent over a Corrupt CSV file and [name] followed your documentation to manually process it. [Name] tried python and the states can't see their dailies. You gotta help us here Call me!!!
Boss: Dude, log back in and help fix this stuff. Name your price. The states can't see their reports. [Company's] going to fine us [name] wants to know if the reports will be complete by 1/6. Family is important, but we are talking about peoples jobs on the line.
OP: Hey, I will be happy to return to [company] for $80/hour, $5000 immediate sign on bonus, and 6 weeks PTO. With a 12 month guarantee. Send that to me in writing and I'll start immediately.
Boss: Cmon. This is ridiculous. I don't even get paid that much. Why do you think you deserve this much? Quit being so full of yourself, be a team player, login and save this company.
Boss: Pick up your phone. I need to know what reports are due next week. We don't want to be fined.]
[Boss: Not even a counteroffer? Every hour the dailies are down, that's $1000 per STATE. [Name] does not know how to fix it. I don't know how much clearer I need to be. Log back in, fix his mistake, get [task] done, be a team player. We are family too you know.
OP: Please stop calling my dad. He has nothing to do with this. You can call me all you want but don't call my emergency contacts. I resigned, I didn't die.
Boss: We had to make sure you were ok.
Boss: Congrats [OP]. You cost the firm $19k. You taught us a lesson. Now pick up the phone and we talk about a reasonable offer. But you need to fix this states daily thing right now. That is your priority
Boss: Pick up the phone HR wants to conduct their exit interview]
[Boss: [OP], here are your priorities
Fix state dailies
Complete [task]
Provide [name] list of 1/6 reports
Train [name] being your back up
Boss: How much time will it take to fix the dailies? I need to tell [name]
OP: What does this mean? To be 100% clear, I resigned today. I don't have priorities or projects. I am no longer an employee. If you would like me to return, I gave you my offer
Boss: There was a time when a two week notice would before you resigned. Maybe you should be a better businessman and give us two weeks? [OP], we all make sacrifices. You have to sacrifice one week of vacation so we can fix some stuff around this department. Next year, maybe you won't ask off for this week until closer to December and you know what the workload is. You gambled and you lose. Just laugh it off and log on, let's get these states fixed. Let's fix [company]. Let's get this department fixed
Boss: Pick up your phone. It is [name] and me We need to know what it's going to take to fix the state dailies. $19k/hour is going to murder us
Boss: [OP] answer your phone
Boss: ANSWER YOUR PHONE!!!
OP: For $10,000, I'll fix your state daily file and train the team on how to run it so this doesn't happen again. Nobody is familiar with Python or understands Alteryx or SSIS. I can train them all using my existing documentation. The answers are all there.
OP: I can fix the state daily file tonight to avoid further fines and train the team the rest of the week. But I will NOT do any work on [project] or provide any information about recurring reports.
Boss: Is that some kind of joke? Your documentation does not have the answer. We've been through it [censored] laughing at $10k. You already cost us $32k today, you want to squeeze another $10k. You got greedy over Christmas]
[Boss: $10k
Fix daily files
Train the team
Do the [project]
Run the recurring reports for January
Deal?
Then we are done.
OP: That is a generous offer. But I'm firm on my offers. But I'm telling you, you don't need me. The answer is in the documentation.
Boss: Then where is it? If you were a true person of your word, you would tell us and save this company. Save your coworkers. Save their paychecks and their bonuses.]
[A gif of Homer Simpson driving. He turns behind him to shout angrily, then the camera changes to a wide shot where he drives over a short wooden bridge, throwing a lighter onto it and lighting it on fire.]
[An update from the OP, which says, "Present Day:
Throughout the day, the manager and CEO send a barrage of texts and phone calls.
One of my coworkers finds the documentation and fixes the reports. Later in the afternoon, he is served corrective action because he was accountable for processing the corrupted file and did not find the documentation faster. He tells me the manager, HR, and the CEO spent all night finding evidence to support the corrective action. I tell him to get his resume up to date. Total down time: 16 hours
Around 3pm, I get a phone call from a new number. It was the client's business manager (the liaison between the former company and the client). I explained to her the delay of getting data until Christmas (despite multiple requests), the loss of a full week of PTO, the text messages/phone calls, and my offer to come back to help her company reach compliance.]
["The business manager told me a different story. The manager and CEO called her earlier to inform her I quit and I am "stalling the project as ransom" in order to obtain more money. I explained how one could skew this view, but I am not actively seeking to return. After observing how the company treats their employees and after being treated post resignation, I have no interest in returning to the company.]
["The business manager asks me what terms (rate, signing bonus, etc.) what I was seeking to return to my former company. She tells me she will call back in an hour and not respond to any more texts from the manager or CEO.
CEO Text: Did the business manager call you? Did she give you a piece of her mind?
Manager Text: I bet the business manager is going to make you personally pay for that fine!
The business manager calls me back on a conference call and asks, "What do you need to finish this project? Software, data, tools, etc.?" I give her a list of everything I need. I answer other questions related to the project.
She says, "Here's the plan. We are going to offer you a contract to finish this API for us by the end of the year for double the hourly rate you asked. If you can finish by 12/31, we will give you the signing bonus. After the New Year, we will see where we are staffing wise and maybe, we can find you a spot, but there is no guarantee, especially if you do not the project. Is that a deal?"]
["I agree to the terms. I inform to put terms in writing and I can start as soon as IT gives me a virtual machine. The business manager says, "No problem, legal checked the contract and there is a clause stating if your former company is unable to perform a function which they agreed to do, we are able to outsource it to a third party and charge the company for it. I just need them to state they are unable to perform the API function, and we will bill them for your time."
TLDR; The client is giving me a contract and billing my former company double my asking rate because the former company is unable to successfully execute a function by the deadline they agreed to in a contract."]

Electrician Los Angeles: Childproofing for a Safe Home
Your home is a sanctuary for your family, and it’s crucial to make it a safe haven, especially for your little ones. In a bustling metropolis like Los Angeles, the services of a trusted electrician are often needed to childproof your home. At USA Electrical Repairs, we take child safety seriously. In this article, we’ll explore how we, as your electrician in Los Angeles, ensure a secure home environment for your children.
The Importance of Childproofing Childproofing is about creating a space where children can explore, learn, and grow safely. It’s a process that covers various aspects of your home, from electrical systems to furniture and beyond. In this article, we’ll focus on the crucial role of your electrician in Los Angeles in ensuring a child-safe home.
Electrical Dangers Electrical hazards are among the top concerns when it comes to child safety. Children are naturally curious and can be drawn to outlets, cords, and other electrical elements. Without proper childproofing, accidents can happen.
Electrician in Los Angeles: The Childproofing Experts When it comes to childproofing your home in Los Angeles, your electrician is a key player. We have the expertise to assess your home’s electrical systems, identify potential dangers, and implement solutions that keep your children safe.
Comprehensive Home Electrical Audit As your trusted electrician in Los Angeles, we begin the childproofing process with a comprehensive home electrical audit. This involves a thorough inspection of your electrical systems, including outlets, wiring, and appliances. We identify any issues that could pose a risk to your child.
Outlet Covers and Tamper-Resistant Receptacles One of the primary childproofing measures we take is installing outlet covers and tamper-resistant receptacles. These safety features ensure that little fingers and objects can’t access the electrical outlets, reducing the risk of electrical shock.
Cord Management Electrical cords can be tempting for children to pull or chew on. We address this issue by managing cords and cables, either by securing them out of reach or using cord protectors to prevent chewing.
GFCI Outlets Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlets are vital in areas where water is present, such as kitchens and bathrooms. These outlets shut off the electrical supply when they detect a fault, preventing electrical shocks. Our electrician services in Los Angeles include installing and maintaining GFCI outlets for safety.
Lighting and Fixture Safety Lighting fixtures and bulbs can also pose safety risks in a childproofing context. Here’s how we address these concerns:
Secure Light Fixtures We ensure that light fixtures are securely fastened to prevent accidental falls. This is especially important for chandeliers and ceiling fans, which can be hazardous if they detach.
Child-Friendly Lighting In children’s rooms and play areas, we recommend child-friendly lighting options. These include LED lights that stay cool to the touch and motion-activated night lights for safe navigation at night.
Appliance Safety Appliances can present electrical and other hazards to children. Here’s how our electrician services in Los Angeles address this:
Child Locks for Appliances We install child locks and safety latches on appliances like ovens, microwaves, and refrigerators to prevent access by curious little hands.
Electrical Appliance Safety We inspect and ensure the safe operation of all electrical appliances in your home. Any faulty appliances are repaired or replaced to eliminate potential dangers.
Home Automation and Child Safety Home automation systems are becoming more popular in Los Angeles homes. While these systems offer convenience, they can present new childproofing challenges. Our electrician services include:

Did you know that a staggering 40 percent of small and medium-sized businesses in the U.S. find themselves tangled in the web of payroll penalties every year?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These penalties often arise from innocent filing mistakes or delays in depositing withholdings.
But let's face it, the intricacies of payroll calculation can make your head spin. Balancing employee wages, benefits, incentives, tax deductions, and many other elements is like juggling flaming torches in a gusty wind.
And just when you thought you had it figured out, each state throws in its unique tax regulations, creating a perfect recipe for oversight and errors. In an already expense-laden business landscape, the last thing you need is the ominous cloud of payroll penalties hovering over your balance sheet.
Lucky for you, the cavalry arrives in the form of cutting-edge technology. Say goodbye to the days of sleepless nights and frustration as modern solutions step in to streamline your payroll processes, turning what was once a maze into a well-paved road.
Welcome to the era of smart payroll management, where technological breakthroughs in HR are shaping a more targeted future. Staying ahead in this ever-evolving landscape requires more than diligence—it demands an eagle-eyed watch on the trends and technologies revolutionizing the payroll arena. Because in a world where staying competitive is the name of the game, being in sync with the payroll trends of tomorrow is the key to unlocking success.
Dive into this blog to learn about the emerging technologies and trends shaping payroll management's future.
Tips for effective payroll management
Get technical with the right payroll software
Organizations can attain efficient and well-organized payroll management processes by utilizing suitable payroll software. Among the array of alternatives accessible, Exela HR Solutions' all-inclusive global payroll processing software emerges as a promising selection. This software automates manual responsibilities such as inputting data, computing taxes, and producing payslips, thereby minimizing the likelihood of inaccuracies and conserving precious time for HR and payroll departments.
Stay abreast of relevant payroll rules and regulations
The realm of payroll regulations is constantly in flux, underscoring the need for enterprises to remain well-versed in the most recent modifications. To sidestep plausible legal entanglements and associated fines, it becomes pivotal to maintain current awareness regarding pertinent payroll statutes and mandates. Staying informed also acts as a deterrent against expensive undertakings, including the need for rectifications in tax submissions or the ordeal of undergoing audits during tax season. Thankfully, a multitude of avenues exist for businesses to uphold their adherence to payroll regulations. You can opt for payroll outsourcing to ensure access to the latest updates on payroll compliance.
Get help from the experts
Managing global payroll processing in-house can lead to heightened stress levels and an increased likelihood of inaccuracies. Hence, it is recommended to contemplate entrusting payroll processing to professionals with expertise in optimizing HR and payroll operations. For instance, Exela HR Solutions offers a comprehensive suite of digitally managed payroll services that cater to the complete payroll cycle, ensuring meticulous and efficient management.
Get organized
Effectively arranging payroll operations is paramount for companies aiming to optimize their payroll procedures. Well-structured documentation of global payroll processing dramatically simplifies the execution of tasks. Utilizing a holistic payroll solution can offer substantial advantages in monitoring critical dates, including the deadlines for form submissions and payroll tax remittances. This functions as a useful prompt for deadlines and visually depicts the timeline for task completion to adhere to those deadlines. By implementing a robust system, workers can aptly manage their time and alleviate the pressure linked with payroll responsibilities.

A Paradigm Shift in Payroll Processing Camouflaged as Progress
In terms of technology, the next-generation advanced payroll solutions are predicted to include:
Integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning
An emerging payroll processing system is projected to integrate the functionalities of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to transform the management of payroll operations. Incorporating AI/ML involves ongoing real-time payroll data monitoring and detecting deviations from established patterns. These deviations encompass irregular overtime hours, unforeseen shifts in compensation, or instances of duplicated payments. The employment of Machine Learning models enables learning from historical payroll processing data, enhancing precision in payroll processing, automating monotonous duties, and accommodating dynamic alterations in payroll requisites.
Employee experience tools and features
A modern payroll system should strongly emphasize employee well-being by integrating a range of tools and functionalities to improve employee contentment, involvement, and convenience. Employee self-service portals allow employees to independently access and oversee their payroll-related details, including salary statements, tax documentation, and requests for time off, without necessitating HR intervention.
Multi-cloud, scalable, and open APIs
The upcoming generation of payroll software should come with essential attributes to address the evolving requirements of enterprises. It needs to possess the capability to operate across multiple clouds, exhibit robust scalability, be founded on open container technology for adaptable function migration, and provide user-friendly APIs and public interfaces to integrate with partners seamlessly.
Considering the vital importance of efficient payroll management in steering a business's triumph in 2023 and beyond, it is advisable to choose an advanced, feature-rich, future-proof, employee-empowered, and all-encompassing payroll solution. Such a solution guarantees adherence to regulations, heightens employee contentment, and amplifies overall efficiency, positioning your enterprise for expansion and accomplishment.
Seven trends to anticipate in the future of payroll
The landscape of payroll management is rapidly evolving, driven by technological advancements, shifting workforce dynamics, and changing regulatory environments. As we look ahead, several trends are poised to shape the future of payroll.
Here are seven trends to expect:
Automated payroll processing:
Automation is revolutionizing payroll management. With the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, routine tasks such as data entry, calculations, and compliance checks can be streamlined and error-proofed. This trend not only reduces administrative burden but also minimizes the risk of human error.
Real-time payroll:
The traditional monthly or bi-weekly pay cycle is giving way to real-time payroll. Employees are increasingly expecting instant access to their earnings and financial data. Companies are adopting technologies that allow on-demand pay, providing employees with more financial flexibility and control over their finances.
Remote work compensation:
The rise of remote and hybrid work arrangements necessitates reevaluating compensation structures. Payroll processing systems must be adaptable to track and manage variable compensation components, such as location-based pay differentials and remote work allowances, ensuring fairness and compliance across diverse geographic settings.
Data security and privacy:
As payroll processes become more digitized, data security and privacy are paramount. Protecting sensitive employee information from cyber threats and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) will remain a top priority for organizations.
Global payroll management:
With the growth of multinational companies and remote workforces, managing payroll across borders is becoming increasingly complex. Companies seek unified solutions that seamlessly handle global payroll compliance, tax regulations, and currency conversion across various jurisdictions.
Employee self-service:
Self-service portals empower employees to manage their own payroll-related tasks. From updating personal information to accessing pay stubs and tax documents, self-service platforms enhance transparency and reduce administrative workload for HR and payroll teams.
Predictive analytics:
Data-driven insights are shaping payroll strategies. Predictive analytics leverage historical payroll data to forecast labor costs, optimize workforce planning, and make informed decisions about compensation and benefits. This trend enables companies to align their payroll strategies with their overall business objectives.
In navigating these trends, organizations must adopt agile payroll management systems that can adapt to changing regulations and technological advancements. Embracing these trends can lead to improved efficiency, accuracy, and employee satisfaction while keeping organizations compliant in an ever-evolving payroll landscape.
It's a wrap!
As we bid farewell to the traditional payroll processing paradigms and wholeheartedly embrace technology's transformative potential, the future of payroll management gleams with promise. It's a future where accuracy and efficiency are the norm, data-driven insights guide strategic decisions, and employee satisfaction is elevated through streamlined processes. By integrating advanced tools and solutions, businesses position themselves not merely for survival but for flourishing in a fiercely competitive landscape.
In an era where technological progress is reshaping the business operations landscape, Exela HR Solutions stands at the forefront of revolutionizing payroll management. We understand the complexities that come with managing payroll for modern organizations, and we have harnessed the power of advanced technologies to simplify and elevate the entire process.

Streamlining Access Control with Automatic Boom Barrier Systems
In an age of advancing technology, access control is no longer confined to traditional methods. The emergence of automatic boom barrier systems, often referred to as boom gates or boom barriers, has revolutionized the way we manage vehicular access to various facilities. This blog delves into the functionalities, advantages, components, and implementation of automatic boom barrier systems, shedding light on their role in enhancing security and convenience.
Understanding Automatic Boom Barrier Systems
Automatic boom barrier systems are mechanical devices designed to control the entry and exit of vehicles at specific access points, such as parking lots, gated communities, toll booths, and industrial complexes. These systems consist of a sturdy horizontal bar, or "boom," which is raised or lowered electronically to allow or prevent vehicle passage. Key components of an automatic boom barrier system include:
Boom Arm: The central component of the system, the boom arm is usually made of durable materials like aluminum or stainless steel. It can vary in length to accommodate different vehicle sizes.
Barrier Mechanism: The motorized mechanism responsible for raising and lowering the boom arm, typically activated by RFID cards, remote control, access control systems, or sensors.
Safety Features: Modern boom barrier systems come equipped with safety measures such as photocells and sensors to detect obstacles, ensuring the boom arm does not close on vehicles or pedestrians.
Control Unit: The brain of the system, the control unit processes commands from various access control devices and initiates the movement of the boom arm.
Advantages of Automatic Boom Barrier Systems
Enhanced Security: Automatic boom barrier systems act as a robust deterrent against unauthorized vehicle access. They can be integrated with access control methods like RFID cards, providing an additional layer of security.
Efficient Traffic Management: These systems streamline vehicular flow, minimizing congestion and facilitating smooth entry and exit.
24/7 Operation: Automatic boom barrier systems function seamlessly day and night, enhancing security and convenience around the clock.
Reduced Labor Costs: By automating access control, businesses and facilities can reduce the need for personnel to manually manage entry and exit points.
Customizable Access: Administrators can set different access permissions based on factors like user roles, time of day, and vehicle type.
Audit Trail: Many modern systems provide logs of access events, offering valuable data for monitoring and analysis.
Conclusion
Automatic boom barrier systems have emerged as indispensable tools for modern access control and traffic management. By combining robust security measures with streamlined vehicular flow, these systems offer a myriad of benefits to businesses, institutions, and facilities of all sizes. Quartermaster Origin - Series 2 (Ep 3 finale)
An imaginary Q-centric Netflix series
Series 2 Episode 1 & 2 here. Might want to read the first 2 episode first for everything to make more sense.
Series 1 Pilot here.
In this second series, we see Q’s double life and how he juggles them. One as a civilian and the other in service with MI6 -  his growth his setbacks; the dramas that follow and which of the two will have to give way.
To make Q’s backstory come to life and the events that happen to and around him seem more realistic, I’ve tried to include as much relevant details including the bureaucracy, politics and technology in MI6 (with a lot of artistic licence). The details all play a role in growing plot and telling of the narrative, I promise.
This is meant to be a plot summary, not a full blown fic. Feel free to furnish with your own details.
------
Episode 3
Clock is ticking! ⏳
Q enlists his unofficial minions - interrupting cyberwar night. Together they form a plan to gather evidence. They confirm the findings when they retest some of the components in storage that were marked as released and find that an unusually high percentage do not meet specification. They trace the manufacturers but they have nothing in common on the surface other than being long time component suppliers to MI6. Q wants to dig further by hacking the company databases but is stopped by R who warns him that he doesn’t have M’s approval. The board only approved an internal investigation, hacking a private company without authorisation would put his career at further risk than it already is.
By morning of the third day the team have what they need regarding the inventory system hack and the extent of it. Evidence suggests someone familiar with their procedures and systems. The hack itself not incredibly sophisticated by anyone’s standards - it didn’t need to be, the low level system was virtually unprotected. It’s effectiveness lay in how and where it was used tactically, break the weakest link and the whole system is undermined.
They manage to determine the extent of the breach. About FOUR months. The good news is that it means limited recall of field equipment. Bad news is, the hacker has had four months of skipping around in their system unchallenged. It’s like having an intruder come and go from your house rummaging through your drawers and cupboards for months without you knowing. God knows what they might have left behind - it makes Q feel nauseous and violated. However an idea begins to form in his head....
Timeline check: Note the timeline is now somewhere at the end of Casino Royale, 007 has just infamously resigned with a one sentence email to M.
Q presents all their findings to M and the board. M sends teams to the manufacturers under the guise of a routine audit so as to not tip them off. In one of them, they find a shipment of components intended for MI6. Documents indicate that they passed inspection, but when they are tested, it’s found that they are mostly duds. The CEO denies any wrong doing and cooperates with the investigation, handing over data and recordings. Q runs the employee list through MI6 database and facial recognition, the results come back that the COO has been seen in the company of a certain Mr White (Quantum). With M’s permission, he traces the COO’s financial activities and hacks his secure accounts. He’s been receiving large sums over the course of a few months coinciding with the shipments to MI6.
That’s one piece of the puzzle slotting into place; M now has more evidence on Mr White than a phone number Vesper left for 007 - and that allows her to sanction 007 to retrieve him for questioning.
Meanwhile, Q acts on the idea he had and plans a trap for the hacker. The Q-Minions scramble to move all remaining systems regardless of security level behind secure firewalls; the process isn’t neat or clean and it breaks more than a few WIFI enabled printers and IOT devices, including the fancy video conferencing setup M has in her home; but its a small price to pay to remove easy entry points. Hayden can chew him out for causing the Great Print-pocalyspe later. Now for the trap - a mirror system is left in place, fed with filtered data from the master system now behind the firewall, this is so that it appears that they are still in use. Then they wait…..
Meantime, it’s been over a week since Q had last seen Adam. A quiet moment lets Q slip away to deal with his civilian life that he’s put on hold. He calls Adam who is relieved that Q is OK. Adam is in tears when he tells Q that he realises that he doesn’t even know where Q’s flat is and has gone to the extent of calling hospitals in the city to check if something has happened to him - he was close to reporting Q as a missing person to the Met. Q assures Adam the best he can and they agree to talk in a few days when whatever emergency he’s dealing with is over.
They end the call with Q feeling like a right piece of work. He hadn’t meant to make Adam worry so much, he had meant to check in earlier, text even. So why hadn’t he? Q has a uncomfortable realisation - as wonderfully stable and predictable as Adam is, he lacks the excitement and intellectual stimulation that MI6 provides. His life in MI6 draws him like a moth to a flame, even if it might burn him one day.
Geeky action time! after the break below.
At Q-Branch, the shipment arrives and is put through the normal procedures of logging in new inventory and testing. Not 24 hours later the hacker strikes. This time Q and his minions are ready. As the hacker’s code rips through the mirror system, it changes data and pings its trojans within the system for updates. Q’s team record all the activity but leave the hacker unchallenged.
Instead they chase hacker on two fronts even as the signal is bounced all over the world - the source of the hack as well as the destination of the data packets its downloaded from the mirror system to see if they overlap, hoping to find a point of origin. Both trails end up somewhere between IndoChina-Hong Kong. The source of the hack is harder to pinpoint but the data packets are ending up somewhere in Laos. It’s a poorly secured telecommunications server belonging to Lao Telecom. It’s likely the owners don’t even know they are being used as a data cache to be retrieved later by the hacker.
Time to pull the plug. But before that Q acts on a hunch, he takes over the system locking everyone else out and executes a data grab first - pulling data off the server in Laos and dumping it into a proxy of his own in Philippines. That’s when he realises that it’s not a passive hack using automated code. There is someone on the other end actively watching...
Now alerted to Q’s presence, the hacker fights back. Simultaneously trying to regain control of the server and chasing Q’s data grab. After several failed attempts by the hacker to regain control and protect the data - whoever they were decides to cut their losses. The hacker sends a DDOS attack to the server, overwhelming it and taking with it telecom service in the surrounding region - Q looses connection. Not the most elegant counter by the hacker, but effective. No matter, Q had already managed to grab a sizeable chunk which he’ll examine later. The other trail also ends abruptly.
Q isn’t innocent either, he’s had to initiate lockout protocols to protect the data he’s dumped in the Philippines, so even the owners of the server in the Department of Transportation can’t get in temporarily. If the traffic lights in Pasig city goes on the blink for half a day and causes mayhem…. well Q better hide their tracks.
It’s OVER. There is dead silence in Q-Branch, jarring after close to an hour of frantic activity. It’s as if no one dares to breathe. Q wills himself to calm, his fingers coming up to cover his eyes under his glasses, he finally lets out a long breath he had not realised he was holding. With that, it’s as if a tightly wound string had been cut. His minions take their cue and break into their own sighs and groans of relief. A minion (future R) is retching into the nearest bin, that was how much anxiety and stress was in the room.
All the adrenaline and tension of the last few weeks bleeds out of him and Q feels like he can’t hold himself upright any longer. He braces himself on his work station and slowly slips onto the floor back against the workstation desk. The reality of the situation hits him then - today, halfway around the world, two servers in two unsuspecting nations just became the latest cyberwar battleground and victims of collateral mayhem. Q is treading on eggshells - an attack like this even if indirect could be construed as an act of war on sovereign nations if they ever found out (yes, Q kinda, technically, maybe caused England to declare war on two nations today).
He doesn’t know it yet, but this was their first of a series of live encounters with Raoul Silva. Q hadn’t planned on Silva being on the other end, so the timing of their counter offensive is a huge clue to Silva as to who they were.
*A throat clearing* M and Tanner make themselves known. They were alerted when the hack started but M chose to stand back and let Q and his team handle it while she watched. Q stiffly picks himself off the floor to face M and Tanner. His minions are also rousing from their various states of collapse - future R is still clutching the bin.
Q confirms they got what they needed. Q and his minions can now use the records of the hacker’s activity in the mirror system and compare it with the unaltered data in the master system and locate the areas that were tampered with as well as where the trojans were located. Like comparing two photographs to see what was changed. This will help them weed out the trojans and patch the system quickly, while also allowing them to study the hackers patterns and choice of tools - both as a ‘fingerprint’ identification as well as adapting MI6’s own cybersecurity response.
As for the data Q stole from the server in Laos, by the time the dust settles in Quantum of Solace, they will find that it was not just MI6s’ inventory system that was targeted. Mr White working for Quantum had been paying off employees in a number of defence companies to ship dud components and equipment to law enforcement and military around the world, while Silva uses the same hack to launder the records of faulty equipment. Once the reputation and faith in these companies have been shaken, Quantum would sweep in with their own and monopolise the industry; controlling the supply of a multi-billion dollar market and aligning it to their own agenda.
Weeks later, 007 has removed Dominic Greene and exposed his plans in Bolivia, but its Q’s investigation and stolen data that allows MI6 to get ahead of Quantum’s plan globally. Unknown to him, Q has already thwarted SPECTRE twice before he’s even in full-time service of MI6 (once in the pilot and now). We can imagine the interest that generates within the organisation to find out who is behind it.
(This is also my take on the personalised “Not such a clever boy” message in Skyfall. Silva knew who Q was long before 007 brought him in. And if Silva knew who Q was, so will SPECTRE. Delicious future setup! *rubs hands*)
Q meets Adam for their ‘talk’ in a local animal shelter Adam is volunteering at. Adam is much calmer, resigned even. As they feed and play with the animals, he tells Q that he’s given a lot of thought to their relationship and realises that he barely knows Q. Q has never invited him over to his place, or introduced him to his family or friends, doesn’t know what he does outside of university other than the excuses he gives. Who is he?? Q listens without saying anything.
Q leans against against a wall of cages and watches Adam thoughtfully as he goes about his work around the shelter. Adam who is kind, thoughtful, who likes long walks and conversations, who picks up strays and nurses them back to health. Adam with his strong nurturing instinct and perfect abs, who gives everything to help those in need. Q commits possible acts of war on behalf of a nation, heedless to the damage it causes. The end justify the means and all that... a life that demands secrecy and subterfuge. Adam could never understand that. It is no one’s fault. They don’t deserve one another. They break-up amicably.
Q helps Adam finish his shift at the shelter. As he tries to put the big adult orange tabby he’s been petting all afternoon back in its cage, the moggie refuses to let go. It meows grumpily and clings to his jumper like velcro. He’s a heavy one, rounded head with impressive jowls, ears notched in a few places and some superficial facial scarring. A street brawler before he was brought in for sure, but now a needy cuddle monster shredding Q’s jumper. Perhaps he’s feeling a little melancholy and a bit lonely now that the breakup is formal, he finds the low pitched yowling  heartbreaking.
He finally gets the cat to let go by sacrificing his jumper, leaving the clothing inside the cage for it to snuggle in. Q goes to leave, the cat’s continued piteous calls tugs at his heartstrings. He makes it as far as the door before turning back and grabbing the cat’s papers hanging by the cage. Guess he’s not going home alone after all.
The last scene of the finale is M in her office. She’s reviewing all the gathered intel and drawing connections. She recognises that she’s being herded into a corner. Unknown entity (Silva) trying to pull the rug out from under her by undermining MI6 through Q-Branch, while Quantum attacks directly from the inside with an assassination attempt by her bodyguard. This is only the start.
------
Notes: I like the idea that Q is more than just a future quartermaster doling out equipment and supplies. He’s also an ‘agent’ in his own right - it makes the conversation when he meets 007 in Skyfall hold more weight. It’s not just hubris, he’s proven himself.
Next on Q... let me know what you’d like to see.

 I.        NON AUTOMATED
 ·         It means that the front office accounts are audited manually by the night auditor to find out the discrepancies.
·         In this system four audit forms:
      i.        Daily and Supplementary transcripts
ii.        Guest and non guest folio
    iii.        Front office cash sheet
iv.        Audit recapitulation voucher produced by hotels revenue centre are sent to front desk.
·         The auditor manually checks all guest and non guest accounts.
·         It involves a lot of time and is practically not possible to physically check each and every voucher.
·         The night auditor checks at random some vouchers but he checks all totals both horizontally and vertically.
 II.        SEMI – AUTOMATED
 ·         Electro mechanical posting machines and their improvement such as fully electronic posting machines are used for front office accounts posting.
·         These machines are only capable of producing a limited number of departmental totals.
·         They don’t interface with POS systems and don’t retain folio balances.
·         Though some new electronic systems are capable.
·         In this semi automated system, simultaneous to the postings of accounts folio , the voucher used to indicate the posting is imprinted with the same information posted to accounts folio, and also same information is printed to a paper tape to save as a permanent journal records, and also as a part of hotels internal audit trial.
·         Amount of each posted charge charge is added to the running departmental for department originating the posting.
·         Departmental totals are helpful in end of work shift end of day reporting.
 Forms produced in semi automated systems are;
a)    Front office cash report
b)    Night auditor summary report (D card)-
This card shows the opening balance of the system provides a running record of all charges and credit postings through the machine and shows a final balance.
 III.        FULLY – AUTOMATED
 ·         It is a simple, quick and very accurate system in which automatic posting to the guest and non guest folios can be done.
·         It is very fast and various audit functions can be performed.
·         It can be interfaced with POS equipment, telephone switches , and call accounting systems for automatic posting from these devices directly to guest and non guest folios.
·         Monitoring account balances and verifying posting is done simply by comparing guest and non guest ledger audit data to front office daily report for balancing.
·         This system offers immediate reach to information, and hence management can more effectively manage operation.
NIGHT AUDIT PROCESS
The night audit process focuses on two areas:
1.     Discovery and correction of front office accounting errors through the cross-Referencing process.
2.     Creation of accounting and managerial reports (ex. Average Rate, Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR), Occupancy Percentage, usage of package plans and other marketing programs, and the number of group rooms and complimentary rooms occupied).
The main steps of the night audit process are:
1.             Establishing an End of Day
2.             Complete outstanding posting
3.             Reconcile room status discrepancies
4.             Verify room rates
5.             Balance all departmental accounts
6.             Verify no-show reservations
7.             Post room rates and taxes
8.             Prepare reports
9.             Prepare cash receipts for deposit
10.           Clear or back up the system
11.           Distribute reports
 1.     Establishing an End of Day:
Each hotel must decide what time will be considered the end of its accounting (or hotel) day. This time is refered to as the End of the Day which is an arbitrary stopping point for the business day. Theoritically, it is the time when all Points of Sales are closed. If this is not possible, it should be the time when all Points of Sales no longer have frequent activities.
 2.     Complete Outstanding Posting:
The Night Auditor must confirm that all transactions have been posted before starting the audit routine.
 3.     Reconcile Room Status Discrepancies:
The Night Auditor must review Front Office (Occupancy) and Housekeeping Room Status Reports to reconcile and finalize the occupancy status of all rooms for a given night.
 4.     Verify Room Rates:
The Night Auditor shall compare Registration Records with system-generated room report. If room’s rack and actual rates do not match, the Night Auditor shall consider the following issues:
·         If the room is occupied by a member of a group or by a corporate-rate customer, is the discounted rate correct ?
·         If the room is occupied by a guest with a package rate or on a special discount offered through the hotel’s reservation distribution channels, is the dicounted rate correct ?
·         If there is only one guest in a room and the actual rate is approximately half the rack rate, is the guest part of a shared reservation ? If he / she is, did the second guest register ?
·         If the room is complimentary, is there appropriate supporting evidence for the rate (for example, a complimentary room authorization form).
  5.     Balance all Departmental Accounts:
It is more efficient for a Night Auditor to balance all departmental accounts first and then look for individual posting errors within an out-of-balance department. In this respect, the Night Auditor shall compare vouchers received at the front desk and other documents with revenue center summaries (Z Reports). This process of balancing all Revenue Center Accounts is called Trial Balance. Night Auditors may prefer to conduct Trial Balance before posting day’s room and tax charges. This way, if the trial balance was correct, and the final balance turned to be wrong, the Night Auditor can deduce that the error is coming from room and tax posting.
6.     Verify No-Show Reservations:
The Night Auditor is responsible for:
·         Clearing Reservation Files
·         Posting Charges to No-Show Accounts (Guaranteed Reservations)
While doing so, the Night Auditor shall pay attention to the folowing points:
·                     Duplicate reservations
·                     Misspelling of Guest Name and / or Surname or reversing them
·                     Front Office or system entry errors
·                     Front Office foregetting to cancel properly a reservation
 7.     Post Room Rates and Taxes:
Posting room rates and taxes takes place typically at the end of the day. The advantages of posting room rates and taxes automatically by the fully automated system are:
·                     Room Rates and Taxes posting to appropriate electronic folios can be done in minutes.
·                     Posting is reliable, accurate with no pickup, tax calculation, or posting errors.
 8.     Prepare Reports:
The Night Auditor shall prepare reports that indicate the status of front office activities and operations. Some of the reports prepared by Night Auditor are:
 a)    Night Audit Accommodation Report − It gives a snapshot of the days when accommodations are occupied, the days when the accommodations are available, check-ins, check-outs, no-shows, and cancellations. This report can show further details for any of the items listed above.
b)    Night Audit Counter Report − It gives details on cash and credit card receipts and withdrawals.
c)     Night Audit Revenue Report − It delivers information on accommodation revenue, cancellation and no show revenue, and other POS revenue. Revenue generated through various agencies and bodies such as travel agents, corporate organizations, internet booking. etc., is also listed in this report.
d)    Night Audit Tax Report − Contains all the tax information on reservation revenue and other POS revenues such as VAT, luxury tax, and service tax.
e)    Cashier’s report − It is the detailed list of cashier activity of cash influx and out flux, credit cards, and PMS totals. Cashier’s report is very important part of the financial control system of a hotel. The front office manager reviews the night audit and looks for any divergences between the actual amount received and the PMS total.
f)      Manager’s Report − It is a statistical list of previous day’s occupancy. It includes details about available accommodations, occupied accommodations, sold and vacated accommodations, rack-rate, number of guests in the hotel, number of no-shows, and so on.
g)    General Manager’s Report − Each department in the hotel is required to send daily sales report to the front office. Using their information, a departmental total report is generated for the general manager’s assessment. The General Manager determines the profit-generating departments and evaluates the success of sales and marketing.
h)    High Balance Report − This is a detailed report about the guests who have exceeded the credit limit set by the hotel management.
i)      Ledger Balance Summary Report − It displays the opening and closing balances for the Advance Deposit Ledger, Guest Ledger, and City Ledger.
j)      Room Rate Audit Report − It lists all rates that are applied to each guest and the difference from the rack rate with the predetermined rack code
 9.     Prepare Cash Receipts for Deposit:
The Night Auditor should prepare a Cash Deposit Voucher as part of the Audit Process. If cash Receipts have not yet been deposited in the bank, the Night Auditor should compare the postings of Cash Payments and Paid-outs with Actual Cash on hand. In some hotels, Front Desk Cashiers might be called to deposit cash at the end of their shifts without knowing how much in cash receipts that the system has recorded for them. This process is called Blind Drop. Under this practice, Night Auditors shall compare system totals per cashier with the actual cashier drop document. Had any discrepencies occur, the Night Auditor shall report this to General Cashier, Front Office Manager or Controller.
 10.  Updating the System:
At least 2 Guest Lists must be printed for back up and emergency use: one for the Front Desk staff and the other for Switchboard Operator. Moreover, a printed Room Status Report shall be prepared to enable front desk agents to identify vacant and ready rooms, should the front office system become inoperable. In addition to that, a Guest Ledger Report shall be prepared which contains the opening and closing account balances for all registered guests shall be generated. Last but not least, a front Office Activity Report is generated to include expected arrival, stayover and departure in formation for several days.
The system-generated front office information shall be copied (backed up) onto magnetic tape, optical tape, or other media.
*Switchboard operators handle all external and internal calls for a company. They answer the phone and route the calls to the correct destinations within the company. They also handle internal calls that need to be directed within the company.
 11.  Distribute Reports:
Due to the sensitive and confidential nature of front office information, the Night Auditor must promptly deliver appropriate reports to authorized individuals.

Okay so I do think more people should know about being able to opt in/out of OD for their debit cards, but there’s an important caveat here that is often overlooked but the wording of the screenshot op posted is very important.
The wording? “Debit card transactions at merchants or ATMs”. Debit card transactions at merchants or ATMs means ONE TIME transactions.
If you get an OD fee for a card transaction at the grocery store when you’re not opted in, but because something else came thru in the night, sure, you can ask your bank for that back and you’ll probably get it.
I have worked in banking for 6 years for both a major national bank, and a smaller more regional bank. I despise overdraft fees, I think they’re awful and shouldn’t be a thing and I desperately wish my current bank would decide to do away with them… I say all this to emphasize that I do not, and will never agree with charging overdraft fees.
Disclaimer done, here’s the thing: the OP scenario is not going to work in the #1 situation I deal with regarding overdraft fees. On a nearly daily basis. Overdraft fees on ACH, Checks, and Recurring Payments. And that is because the bank never actually explains it, which is shitty and I try to correct that every time it happens.
Also, not every bank has automated review systems— mine has a very strict limit of what can be refunded in a 12mo period but it’s up to the employee to check how many refunds have occurred. You would think that could mean more refunds if you just argue your case— nope. It means that the employee on the other end wishes they could just refund the damn fee, and technically they COULD but there’s a nifty little audit report done on every single fee you waive, and if you go over that, you WILL be risking your job.
Time to clear up the misunderstanding: if you actually read the Reg E guidelines your bank gives you, you’ll notice that it specifically only refers to purchases at the register, or ATM withdrawals. Nothing about ACH, Checks, or recurring payments. Onetime debit card transactions only.
What the bank doesn’t stress to people that I try to correct, is that opting out of OD on your debit card does not mean you will never get an OD fee or that everything that causes an overdraft will be rejected.
Your recurring spotify payment is $10, and you only have $2? That’s a recurring payment, not a one time purchase even tho it’s on the card, so it’s not subject to the opt in/out rules— overdraft fee.
Your mortgage payment takes a little longer to come out than you thought it would and you accidentally overspent? That’s an ACH, not a debit card transaction, and not subject to the opt in/out rules— overdraft fee.
You wrote a check to someone because they wouldn’t take card or cash, and then they take 3 weeks to finally go cash the damn thing and you’ve forgotten all about it, and now because of this check, you’re $100 in the hole— overdraft fee.
The reason given to us lowly peons for that is that recurring payments, ACH, and checks are a binding agreement that you have with another entity to pay them. Therefore, we HAVE to process those. Whether that’s legit or just an excuse, IDK, but that’s what I have to say to people.
But the banks do not explain that— the overdraft opt in/out just only mentions one time transactions and that technically counts as informing you because they didn’t SAY that you would never get an overdraft fee. They just said that you wouldn’t get an overdraft fee for THOSE transactions.
And the bank isn’t required to refund the OD fees on those exceptions, either.
That said, here is something that can work: if you have a transaction that does overdraw you, and you can get the company to refund you (it very specifically must be a merchant credit, not you taking cash/check and making a deposit), that fee most likely CAN be refunded and has no bearing on your fee waiver limits because those are just marked as “bank error”. Not sure on every bank’s policy but the two I’ve worked for both have that rule. So it’s always worth it to reach out to the merchants/providers.
All that aside, yes, OD fees are the Devil and should be eradicated and I mention this at literally every staff meeting EVER and there HAVE been some positive changes made so that we can help more often. I just gotta keep chipping away at them…
And this is completely unrelated but since we’re talking about banking misconceptions: y’all, PLEASE stop using cashapp, Venmo, and zelle for literally anything except sending money to people you trust. Because if you think you’re getting a sweet deal on a car and you Venmo someone $1000 but then they never show up with the car? You’re out the $1000. Because when you call to dispute that for not having received merchandise, your bank is going to contact cashapp/zelle/Venmo, NOT the person who scammed you, and according to cashapp/zelle/Venmo, they just sent the money that YOU requested they send, and THEY did nothing wrong, so automatic dispute denial.
I’m literally not allowed to tell people that when filing a dispute even tho I know 100% what’s gonna happen, otherwise I can be fired, so I’m saying it here: don’t use money transfer apps to buy stuff unless you are physically in the presence of the person and have eyes on the merchandise. Just don’t do it.
you don't have to pay overdraft fees ever
the biden administration recently cracked down on overdraft fees which means banks cannot force you to pay them as they have become opt-in -- however you do have to call the bank (for example, paypal payments overdraft you even if you have opted out, as they function like checks.)
my experience is with wellsfargo but i imagine that most major banks may operate similarly:
if you have an overdraft fee, call the bank, you will get a machine. go through the autentification process with it but do not mention your issue when it asks you to (specially not the word overdraft -- this is a conspiracy theory i cannot prove but i swear to god they rewire you to more aggressive phone people if you tipoff the machine) instead say "i'd like to speak to a representative" the machine will be like "lol didn't get that" so you may need to repeat it a couple more times before it wires you to a real person
wait! i'd recomend calling as early in the morning as possible to avoid elevator music.
be nice to the customer service person who picks up (i make a point of thanking them for their help and calling them by their name, if i don't catch it the first time i ask them again for it)
my script is something along the lines of: "hi, i noticed there's an overdraft fee in my account that posted on [date]. i am calling to see if we (WE -- you and the representative are a team against the problem) could do something about it" (<- you may decide to be more direct, i just put my innocent hat on)
most if not all of what they say to you is a script. they will be like "i will check that for you with the automated process that takes into account you previous refund activity" BLAH BLAH BLAH. more waiting. if you have had any refunds in the past 12 months, they will be like "sorry the system says no (:" THOUGH, VERY RECENTLY, they have tacked on this question: do you have any thoughts on that / how do you feel about that / etc. though even if they do not prompt you, here's the next step:
say: thank you! i appreciate the automated review, however i do not agree/approve/consent to being charged a fee. is there any way you could check again / anyone else i could talk to / would it be possible to refund it regardless? etc.
they will check again, possibly more waiting, and then you will get an immediate refund! in the rare case they refuse to, here is the link to the FDIC website that you can refer to (note, this is for overdraft fees only):
Tumblr media
8. i cannot emphasize this enough -- be nice !!!!!!!!!!! BE NICE! be cheerful, say "thank you" and "no worries" and "take your time!". it is NOT a confrontation, it is NOT their fault, and most of the time the customer service representative wants this to be as frictionless as possible. they are helping you, use the opportunity to make a moment of their day a lot less stressful than they expect it to be.
that is ALL -- i have been using wellsfargo for over eight years, and have lost hundreds of dollars to predatory overdraft fees charged as a punishment for having no money.
during the beginning covid, when they were momentarily suspended (you had to mention covid on the phone to get them back lol), i came to the realization that all of this time they could have been giving me my money back. there was no reason not to, except corporate greed.
do not let phone social anxiety let them take your money from you, now that it is easier than EVER to get it back. and if you need motivation to pick up the phone, remember this headline from a couple of years back lol:

building on closing anniversary’s analyse image signal Processors ISP, nowadays we’re exploring how Qualcomm Spectra™ ISP know-how mixed with Computational photography capabilities takes your smartphone images to an entire new stage. by way of computational photography, we mean advanced imaging concepts that increase and prolong the general capabilities of digital images. Some of these permit photographers to manually tweak their photos, whereas others work cautiously in the background guaranteeing that your photos all the time look the ultimate. Let’s dive in. cell platforms built for crunching picture information whereas an ISP is ideal at handling commonplace photography and video catch tasks, extra superior computational photography algorithms require more powerful hardware. use instances encompass utility bokeh blur for a professional brand abyss of box effect, high activating range colour processing, multi-digicam taking pictures, electronic graphic Stabilization IS, and advanced digital zoom capabilities. Snapdragon mobile platforms are constructed from a variety of processing materials, each with their personal specialities and capabilities – many of which can be relevant for superior photo processing. moreover the familiar intention CPU and photograph taking pictures Qualcomm Spectra ISP, Snapdragon mobile systems include a Qualcomm Hexagon™ agenda signal Processor ESP and Qualcomm Adrenal™ photos Processing unit GPU which are each most appropriate to crunching superior imaging algorithms. using these add-ons across the belvedere is conventional in the cell industry as amalgamate Processing. accumulation the capabilities of assorted GSoC processing components improves the performance and energy affectivity of computational images on a Snapdragon cell belvedere each and every of these processing units is useful at various kinds of algorithms. CPUs, as an instance, offer the most advantageous efficiency where the algorithm isn’t highly parallel and requires aberration operations. in the meantime extremely alongside algorithms, which often crop up in photo publish-processing thoughts like HER and article removable, run a great deal sooner on a GPU. finally, a ESP is the superb processing unit for real-time sensor-based applications and laptop discovering tasks similar to article detection. as an example, smartphones powered by Snapdragon offer electronic picture Stabilization IS without the need for any extra automated constituents. by using monitoring circulate from the cell’s accelerometer hardware and working monitoring algorithms on the Adrenal GPU, the Spectra ISP can lift a very good looking picture at simply the correct time. This stops your photographs from popping out bleared, although you don’t have steady palms. To create a utility blur impact, the camera requires abyss advice about the scene you’re shooting in. a technique to do this is to include a dedicated abyss camera, similar to a time of flight sensor, to notice the specific distance. then again, a mobile with two cameras can choose a picture at two distinct focal lengths simultaneously. Snapdragon mobile structures support distinctive cameras should still smartphone manufacturers are looking to put into effect this know-how. A choice formula acclimated through loads of single cameras is to assume photos at multiple focal point aspects in very quick assumption. as soon as the telephone has recorded at assorted focal lengths, stereo algorithms, which work in an identical technique to our eyes, are applied to discern which altar is in the beginning and that is within the heritage. A second abashing algorithm is then utilized to the photo to soften objects that aren’t in the centre of attention. The improvement of the usage of these components is that the focal field, the volume of the blur, and different outcomes may also be modified afterwards the photo has been taken. This fact can also be saved within the HEIGH graphic structure. software Bokeh off utility bokeh on With the CRISP interior the latest Snapdragon mobile systems, handsets are capable of the following bokeh becloud to no longer simply photographs however to reside video as neatly. Optical zoom or telephoto cameras have looked as if it would aid in this attention, however extra cameras and lenses can also be high priced. It’s viable to buy very first-rate zoomed-in photographs with only a single digital camera, because of some clever algorithms and hardware to run them efficiently. Qualcomm Optimized™ digicam function is engineered to capture images in quick access. Algorithms mix information from these shots collectively by means of gazing transformations and similarities amid pixels. These sub-pixel differences between photographs are used to glean further details, growing a more robust resolution photograph packed with further aspect. this is often known as super-resolution zoom, and it creates awfully superior effects to digitally agriculture into your picture afterwards pressing the bang. .x digital Zoom instance .x tremendous resolution Zoom example excessive activating latitude HER HER processing is required in scenes with a large variation between gentle and darkish with the intention to prevent over or underexposure. Smartphones powered by means of Snapdragon create high dynamic latitude photographs by way of combining varied photographs collectively, each and every with a unique exposure setting. Darker photos bring out highlights appropriately, such because of the solar and clouds, whereas brighter exposures carry out highlights in the dead of night. Algorithms mix details from all of those pictures collectively to actualize an image that offers greater highlights and nonsensicality than a common picture. Qualcomm applied sciences’ “ghost-changeless” HER expertise additionally works to stay away from bleared edges by using audition and getting rid of any movement from the attempt. HER Off HER On helping you retaking enhanced pictures contemporary smartphones have confused previous just featuring notable digital camera hardware, they now additionally offer cutting edge processing innovations and hints to shut the ever-smaller hole with professional brand DSLR cameras. Snapdragon mobile systems are at the heart of most of the contraptions providing consumers with the absolute best in cell images. Of path, advanced processing is simply a part of the photo. if you wish to steal fabulous snaps, be sure to take a look at our expert counsel on the way to grasp the ideal picture. And don’t neglect to publish your entries to the #ShotOnSnapdragon image competition to your opportunity to pick a Snapdragon-powered smartphone. content sponsored through Qualcomm applied sciences. MGA SEASON FIVE !      EP. 1 → PART ONE: CALLBACK PERFORMANCE       ( SINGING FLY 0:00 - 1:55 )
when she receives the email, she assumes it’s a politely-worded rejection letter ( albeit automated and thus, void of any actual sympathy ). it’s disguised a little like a positive note from the subject line, but siyeon’s received enough strongly worded emails from her parents about her behaviour at boarding school to know that’s how they reel you in — give you a false sense of serenity before hitting you with the hard stuff. so, she doesn’t rush to open it. she’s in the middle of her shift, hands ( and now phone ) covered in flour so she pushes it to the back of her mind and carries on through to the evening, the notification almost forgotten until she gets into the safety of her bedroom at home.
a text from jeno lights up her screen but she barely reads the message. instead, her eyes are drawn to the box below it, the sender screaming at her loud and clear. mnet global auditions. yes, her rejection email, and so finally, she picks up her phone with little care, sighs as she clicks through to read it.
congratulations. she thinks it strange to include the word on your final communication with someone, but the further she reads, the more it sinks in that this isn’t a rejection, far from it, actually. by some miracle, she’s through to the next round, one of far too many whittled down to a mere hundred— how had she sneaked her way in? endless wit and charm? potential for spinning a narrative down the line? she can barely believe it.
so she reads it again, reloads and reloads as if closing the app or restarting her phone will prove to her that it’s just a figment of her imagination, that it isn’t real — that she hasn’t been contacted for a callback. if her phone hadn’t cost so much ( and hold so many memories ) she’d have dropped it straight to the hard floor.
the next morning, when it’s all finally sunk in somewhat, she re-reads it again with a clear mind. two minutes, prepare a song, dance or rap for judges and the other ninety-nine contestants. for a moment, she feels a little nervous. she’s never sang for a group so large before, her biggest venue being her friend’s family-and-friends-only birthday party in late 2017 of about fifty people. or rather, forty-five that were actually awake by the time she took the microphone. god, who thought inviting their conservative extended family and all their grandparents to an 18th birthday party was a good idea? out of loyalty, she sang the full five songs she promised she would but after the second verse of the first, she was ready to call it a night.
regardless, she has to do it. if not to be able to say she did, then to prove to herself that she can. her biggest problem is choosing a song. she already knows immediately that she’ll sing. what is the real question, though. for the auditions, she’d chosen something she felt would be entertaining and upbeat enough on a long day, but she doesn’t want to continue doing exactly the same thing. she’s not thinking too much about making herself memorable amongst so many likely far more talented contestants; in all honestly, the probably vital concept completely slips her mind. instead, she’s wondering how she can build upon what she auditioned with, how she can show something a little different without venturing so far out of her comfort zone that she risks it all. she wants to sing something familiar, something soft, without it being just another happy acoustic guitar and piano song. maybe something slow and sensual? an english ballad?
in the end, spending hours scrolling through songs, she settles on something closer than she’d intended, but still distant enough that she feels that it gives off a different vibe. this time, she should have the chance to show off a little more colour to her voice. there’s a little tame belting, plenty of opportunities for her to adlib. it’s a great version of an otherwise very pop song, too, that she hopes most of the audience aren’t familiar with so it piques their interest when the backing track starts.
only time will tell, and tell it will, as she spends the next few days practising it endlessly. her coworkers are fed up of her noise in the kitchen, her grandmother even grew tired of her singing wherever she is, whatever she’s doing, that she’d started going out on walks to the convenience store more, despite siyeon’s protests about her health. ( the doctor had said it’d be good for her to get out more, get fresh air and stretch her legs, but siyeon worries. she always worries. )
when the time comes, she nervously takes a seat, re-tucking her t-shirt into the waist of her jeans. the belt feels a little tight under all the lights and the pressure of so many eyes scanning by her as each contestant seems to be glancing at their competition. it’s hard not to run over the crowd growing when she knows there’ll be familiar faces amongst them, friends she’s not seen for a while because they’re all so busy with this and even a few ex-idols, too. her curiosity usually gets the better of her, after all.
the hustle and bustle begins to die down as the next step of the auditioning process begins. now it feels like a tv show, with their elaborate stage and the lights dimming and cameramen whizzing around. she doesn’t know how much of today will make it into the first episode of the show, or how much of their previous round of auditions will either, but it’s a question long forgotten in the back of her mind when they announce the arrival of the judges. she expects it to be a group of known idols, seniors in the industry that are highly respected and regarded for their respective talents, like lc9 and myname members, or that phenomenal vocalist from she’z, but lo and behold, it’s another step up even from them as the ceos saunter in and suddenly siyeon thinks there’s no way I can do this and her palms begin to feel sweaty.
this is so much pressure, she thinks, so much more than I expected. having to sing for a crowd so large already was enough to shake her a little bit, but she’d gotten over that with time. this, however, is an entirely different ball game— and she’d had no time to prepare for it. maybe if she’d known the ceos would be here, she’d have practised harder, brought something more extravagant to the game. they’ve seen countless talents in their lifetimes, what makes her think they’ll even bat an eyelash at her?
but she’s here now and she’s worked so hard for it. she’s spent more hours than she has fingers and toes three times over readying herself for this moment — for being called down to sing and to show them what she’s capable of and hopefully, what she could be capable of in their experienced hands. she sucks in a deep breath. she has until she hears her name to centre herself and thankfully, with a hundred contestants, there’s plenty of time to get there.
( and of course psych herself back out again, and then up again, then out, then up— and so forth. )
by the time she is called, she isn’t really sure what she’s feeling. it’s numb, surreal, and she thinks she’s probably going to trip on her way there just to ice that sweet, sweet carrot cake, but soon she’s standing before five of the most influential people in the industry and her palms are sweaty and her feet fidgeting and she’s bowing ninety degrees for a little too long.
“I’m park siyeon and I’ll be singing fly by jiu.” she barely has time to shuffle her weight about to loosen herself up before the backing track is starting.
it’s softer, already more subtle than the pop genre original, but siyeon honestly likes both reasonably equally. despite her usual affinity for acoustic tracks, she appreciates the harmonies and positive vibe of the first iteration of the song. after all, it’s a song about self love and that’s always best expressed through a happier beat, she thinks. but this version, the one she starts a few seconds in, comes from a different place. it might not entirely be something that’s overly important to her, to her own growth, but she knows confidence, spreading your wings, believing in yourself— they’re things so many people struggle with and if she can touch anyone with this deeper, more emotional rendition, then she’ll consider it a success.
she does have to actually make it through the next two minutes first, though.
invisible 안갯속에 나를 찾아야만 해 yeah 작은 불빛 그 희망은 상상만으로도 you’ll find
for the first verse and pre-chorus, her voice is much more gentle in tone. it’s akin to her audition, a little too breathy in places and a little too powerful in others as she moves into the chorus in due time. when she watches clips of these shows, so many contestants close their eyes, look as if they’re totally submerged in the moment but siyeon smiles, clicks along to the beat with a bit of bounce in her body. she wants to look relaxed, like she’s having fun ( and isn’t, instead, screaming for basically two minutes in her head not to forget the lyrics or mess up; no biggie ). of course, it means she probably looks like she’s trying too hard, but she’d rather appear nervous but trying than too dramatic, than emotionless or dry. delivery is just as important as actual talent, right? or maybe that’s just what she’s telling herself as she fails to see how else she might stand even a fraction of a chance against the other performers she’s seen thus far.
높은 곳을 향해 손을 뻗어 볼 때 닿을 것만 같은 느낌 바라왔던 날들 가까워진 걸까 저 하늘에 그려져
just spread your wings 저 끝까지 가슴 뛰는 소릴 따라 두 눈을 감고 꿈을 펼쳐봐 you’re a hero, you can fly you can fly, oh, yeah, oh
the belted notes of the chorus are a contrast to what she’d handled in her audition. she doesn’t want to fall flat, so she always ends up putting a little too much gut into them, a little too much effort. on their own, they sound great. on their own, the softer verses sound great. together, her song is a little disjointed, her transitions between each unpolished but the potential is there. she lacks a little of the control they so likely desire, but it shows in her adlibs that she’s capable of it — if only she were to know what she was doing, if only she had someone to guide her along the way.
though, again, maybe that’s just what she’s telling herself to plough through the worry that she’s already messing everything up. is there a world record for fastest mga audition to go wrong? at least she could stand a chance at that if all else fails.
단 한 번도 보지 못한 세상이 펼쳐질 거야 구름 위로 날아올라 ‘cause your wings are made to fly
somehow, with the blink of an eye, she’s at the second verse and generously more than half way through her performance. she mellows back down to her quieter tone, though her bright smile doesn’t falter. she can’t let herself slip now; she’s made it this far and she’s determined to make it to the end. she’s no longer nervous about singing for the sheer number of people here, nor the ceos, instead a little elated despite other worries that she’d had the honour at all. after all, she can barely begin to imagine how many people auditioned and yet, here she is, one of the hundred the roster was whittled down to. that has to mean something, right? potential ( as a trainee or just as entertainment on the show, she doesn’t want to think too hard about ) shown, possibly, or even just to help buffer up their favourites for the show ( by comparison, she’s sure they’d look much more impressive ) but whatever it is, she’s here and she intends to savour every moment of it.
due to the layering of the original, there’s a lot that’s missed in this subdued, single vocalist version. for that reason, she has to skip the first half of the opening line of the pre-chorus this time around, her voice projecting clearly with the run from the end of the verse. she’d practised it especially hard, recording herself to see how it sounded. she’d wanted them to think she’s professional, serious about this— isn’t fancy vocal tricks the way to do that? thankfully, she’s not able to overdo it, so it’s still quite tame as she executes a pretty adlib or two throughout. she wishes she could sing right through to the very last beat, show them how sweet her voice is in the slightly higher bridge, but her time is coming to an end.
손을 뻗어 볼 때 닿을 것만 같은 느낌 바라왔던 날들 가까워진 걸까 저 하늘에 그려져
it’s not the most natural finish to a performance, but she does her best to fade out as the instrumental behind her does the same. the harsh cuts of her audition song had put her off, so she’d asked for help this time making sure she wouldn’t be remembered for making ninety-nine contestants and the five ceos jump out their seats at the sudden melody.
when she’s done, satisfied, she bows once more and makes her way back to her seat. her heart’s thumping aggressively in her chest and the contestants sitting around her offer her encouraging smiles as she makes her way back over. her fingers shake against her thighs but she’s done and now it’s just a waiting game. a really horribly painful waiting game.

5 Ways Controllers Benefit from AP Automation
Tumblr media
Control, cash and compliance. These are the three ‘C’s’ that keep most controllers up at night.
But savvy controllers are resting easier by automating their accounts payable process with digital technologies such as intelligent data capture, workflow automation, robotic process automation (RPA), artificial intelligence, mobile and analytics.  These digital transformation solutions automate the centralization, capture, validation, matching and posting of any paper or electronic invoice.
Digitally transforming accounts payable helps controllers manage their three ‘C’s’ in five ways:
#1. Greater operational efficiency and effectiveness Automating the extraction, validation and posting of data from invoices accelerates the delivery of information to the ERP application, while eliminating manual data-entry and the risk of errors.
Configurable business rules automatically match the header and line-item data captured from invoices with critical information stored in an ERP platform or accounting system, such as the purchase order number, invoice number, invoice date, vendor, quantity and amount.   As a result, most invoices can be processed, matched and posted without human operator intervention.
#2. Faster resolution of exceptions There are lots of reasons that an invoice can result in an exception: wrong price, wrong quantity, missing tax amount, missing tax identification number, no requester name, no contact data, no contract and/or purchase order, missing purchase order number, no shipping notice, no order confirmation, net amount exceeds sub-total, invoice total exceeds contracted amount, missing ZIP code in address, incorrect spelling of a company name and no matching purchase order.
Digital technologies make it a snap for finance departments to quickly resolve invoice exceptions.
#3. Tighter tracking and control Automation enables financial controllers to enhance control over their accounts payable process by automating tasks such as validating and matching invoice data and posting approved invoices to an ERP, ensuring chain of custody and separation of duties, enforcing level of authority and approval and exceptions handling workflows, and automating image and data retention.  With automation, most invoices can be posted directly to an ERP application, without human operator intervention.
And automated solutions log all actions taken on an invoice.
#4. Better working capital performance. Automated accounts payable solutions can help controllers improve working capital performance.
For instance, the faster invoice approval cycle times that businesses achieve with automation opens the door to more early payment discount opportunities.  The Institute of Finance and Management’s (IOFM) AP Department Benchmark and Analysis found that moving to higher levels of automation enables businesses to pay a higher percentage of invoices within the early payment discount period.
#5. Enhanced visibility into operations, cash and risks Automation delivers the real-time visibility financial controllers need to increase the operational performance of the finance department, optimize cash, and ensure compliance, control and security.
Configurable graphical dashboards provide controllers with ready access to actionable information such as outstanding liabilities, on-time payment percentage, corporate spend and trends, category spend and volume, spend-to-supplier ratio, accounts payable value and volumes, accounts payables efficiency and early payment discount capture metrics.  With these insights, controllers can determine when it is best to take advantage of early payment discount opportunities, reign in spending or make investments.  A digital archive stores invoices and other accounts payables documents for records retention and audit purposes.  Controllers and other authorized users can instantly and securely retrieve information at any time and from any location, via a personal computer, laptop or a mobile device with a web-browser.  Configurable administrative controls ensure that only authorized users access stored images and data.  And complete tracking of all activities within the system help fulfill audit and compliance requirements.
