A sharp smile and even sharper teeth, relishing the feeling. He could feel the power flowing back to it's rightful place. His lamb had served him well and made the right choice in the end. Something was wrong. Images of chains flickered over the lamb like an afterimage. Metal replacing a bell. The wool was falling into their eyes. Not falling. Dripping. His lamb was dripping. He watched, enraptured, as the lamb seemed to melt before him. This isn't how it was supposed to go. No he'd carved out a section of the underworld. He was to keep them whole in a place just for them. Why were they melting?! They weren't supposed to me- Narinder lurched awake, chest heaving, aching, barely able to grasp breathing still. The sheets, or what was left of them, were shredded and stained. Tatters of some poor attempt to appease him. He didn't understand. Aside from the melting, that was how it was supposed to happen. That damned lamb was supposed to give him the red crown. Submit and kneel to their fate. It was the plan. It's what he wished for. Wishes for still. So why did it feel like a nightmare? His bed feels cold.

Asylum of the Lamb

Asylum of the Lamb, is an Asylum au centered around an Asylum named Old Faith. It is ran by the bishops, ancient immortals who harbored aspirations to change in the world throughout their endless lives.

Their goals crumbled long ago when Narinder fell victim to the corrupting force of greed and power beneath the Red Crown.

In the wake of a tragic family murder that leaves the Lamb in the throes of a prolonged emotional breakdown, they are sent to the asylum with the hope of finding healing and recovery. Only instead they find themselves under the watchful eye of something long buried in the far ends of the asylum.

Whispers of freedom, both for the Lamb and for this long-constrained creature, begin to weave their way into the fabric of their reality. Whispers of death that can be undone, the concept of resurrection itself. Narinder lures the Lamb into his own confinements, offering them the unthinkable: the chance to bring their lost family back to life.

In exchange he too gets his freedom, he gets his power back, and ultimately he finally gets to crush his family between his fingers for their perceived cruelty.

Wh… why is he so stuck on this. The best theory I’ve heard is that he’s conflating “mental asylum” and “political asylum”? What? Help? Hannibal Lecter is not dead? He is not real? There was more than one lamb? That was 1991? You’re ten years late even to the tv show fandom, what is happening.

my @reanimator-holiday-gift-exchange present for @blacksm1le ! the prompt i went with was "Mental Asylum AU with a contained Herbert and doctor Cain. Kind of like a hannibal/silence of the lambs vibe maybe?", and i... i....... i loved the idea so much that i made seven pages. :'^)

this was sooooo fun. if i were better at prose writing i would have loved to spin off an entire fic, but i love love love this setup.

i imagine that, in this universe, Dan left the surgical field because he had an emotional breakdown a few years in. he went into psychology afterwards in hopes of better understanding (& therefore overcoming) his own fear of death. eventually, this fixation led him to Herbert. Herbert i'd been thinking was deemed psychologically unsound by the authorities in Zurich post-Gruber, and deported into long-term criminal psychiatric care afterwards. Dan is easily seduced by his ideology, of course. i'm also picturing Hill as our Dr. Chilton stand-in, very invested in having a high-profile patient... so many possibilities!!! gahh!!! i hope u like it, i looooved working on it.
