The designer, Mary E. Vogt, commented about this dress in an interview: "I had some beautiful dresses that Ralph Russo very generously lent us. They were gorgeous, and the director was excited about them, too. I showed them to Gemma and for that particular scene — the one where she finds out her husband is cheating on her — she said, I want to be really vulnerable and I don’t want to wear anything too fabulous.

"At first, I was disappointed. I said, 'Are you sure?' But when I thought about it, yes, of course it makes more sense for this scene. It’s about her vulnerability, not some outfit. I had an elegant, gray 1930’s Ralph Lauren dress. It was very simple, yet it worked. You looked at her — at her face and her expression. You weren’t distracted by three-dimensional butterflies or anything wild on the dress."

A side view reveals that the dress fastens with a zipper on the right side. It also has an ornament at the waist, which appears to be in the shape of a dragonfly.

Re-reading, rewatching, and reliving my childhood, I just realised that it's so strange watching fictional characters, once your age, become adults with agency, like you now. They become free of adolescence but also face the reality of being an adult. They are not confined to a single period or time in their life, but, they stop ageing once the story ends. They are childhood heroes who might do good for society, but they're also adults with trauma, faults and issues that affect those around them. They're idols who you looked at with starry eyes as a child, only to realise, with a small, weary smile, that what you idolised them for is how they faced adversity they never wanted, and chose to be different because of it. They don't have the luxury of just "being a kid" and not seeing the world the same way another adult might, but they have the power to change what they experienced as a kid.

They are the legacies you look back on when you want to remember a time in your life, but they're also the bittersweet memories of a time that passed and will continue to pass. You will have white waterfalls cascading around your face, with a tired smile but they'll still look strong, proud and relatively young, eyes swelling with life. There's something beautiful, haunting, sad, strange and nostalgic about it all.

I think THW's epilogue would work slightly better if Hiccup was a bit older, maybe around Stoick's age. I know the movie pushed the idea of dragons being just instictual animals (as contradictory as it is towards not only the franchise as a whole, but also the film itself), but to me it feels more plausible for Toothless to start forgetting his life with Hiccup after 20+ years rather than 10, if I'm being led to believe they were such an unbreakable bond.

More importantly though, I would've prefered if instead of only Hiccup's family having one last flight; the whole 'gang' was there. While them being an actual friendgroup is more of a RTTE thing (unfortunately), I don't see why everyone else should be excluded, especially Valka. I mean, Astrid got to see her own dragon again. Why couldn't others? Are Hiccup, Astrid and their children the only ones allowed to break the rule? Was Hiccup really the only one to have actual friendship with a dragon?

On an unrelated note, the detail of people forgetting dragons and even claiming they never existed can work - as long as it's meant to interpreted as their existence being forgotten over the course of history, instead of when Hiccup was still alive. Maybe even Berkians and their allies themselves wrote them out to keep the secret safe.

Criminal Case Inkember 2024

After Inktober 2024, let's get to Criminal Case Inkember, held by @inkembercriminalcase on Instagram ! This time, we have the choice between 2 characters for each Prompt, which I find amazing because this could develop your creativity even more ! You can even do it with both characters, or even others !

RULES ! (I gave it to myself to add more "punch" and "difficulty", juts like I did with Inktober, but less rules because it is already centralized into one Fandom) :
