Astraea is known as the goddess of justice, innocence, purity and precision and lived amongst humanity during the golden age. She was later driven away by humanities growing lawlessness by the Bronze Age and was placed in the sky as the constellation Virgo.
I recently made myself a new sketchbook using a cover less journal I had bought years ago (it was pretty much a journal made with the paper above with a piece of leather as the back cover but here was no front cover. It was just a strip of leather that covered the perforation of the paper pad). I had been watching OverlySarcasticProductions’ recent video on Astraea the other day and thought she would be fun to draw!
I used Antonio Canova’s plaster sketch of his sculpture “Allegory of Peace” (shown under the cut) as my pose reference! I just changed up the position of the hands a little so it looked more natural since I didn’t give Astraea anything to hold. I also really liked the fluffy “Eda Clawthorne” hair Red had used for her Astraea, so I used it in my version as well lol.

Romance Club MC's as Greek deities:
Audrey as Astrea:
Titan-Goddess of justice, innocence and purity ⚖️🌹✨
Astraea, also known as Astrea or Astraia, is the virgin goddess of justice, innocence, purity, and precision. Often called the "Star Goddess" or "Star Maiden," Astraea was a cherished deity who embodied all that was virtuous in the world. She is best known as the last immortal to live among humans during the Golden Age. Sadly, this utopian era did not endure. Horrified by humanity's decline, Astraea witnessed misery and wickedness pervade, eroding the innocence once prevalent. Among the last to remain with humans, she eventually departed when redemption seemed impossible, vowing never to return. The Ancient Greeks, along with many other cultures that have since recounted Astraea's story, hold onto the belief that the goddess will one day return to Earth, heralding a new Golden Age for mankind. Audrey was selected to embody Astraea due to her apparent link to the goddess, a connection that remains a mystery to this day (update).

this valentine’s day i would like to profess my undying, ardent love for the callistephus chinensis (china aster)! the flower that contributed to me giving myself my name!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
not only are they a part of the (superior in my opinion) family of asteraceae, but also the genus’ (callistephus) etymology is derived from the greek words “kalli-” meaning “beautiful” and “stephos” meaning crown. they have beautiful chrysanthemum-esque blooms and come in all sorts of colours (my favourites being purple and white).
straying away from taxonomy a bit, asters in general are one of the birth flowers for september (my birth month!). they symbolise hope, faith and wisdom. and according to greek mythology, astraea (“star maiden”: goddess of purity, justice and innocence) cried because there weren't enough stars in the sky and when her tears hit the earth, they caused asters to bloom! continuing to follow the greek myth, she was the last goddess to live amongst the humans after the golden age, symbolising the decline of hope for humanity along with the decline of the ages. she left and became the constellation virgo i believe!
some more fun fun facts, asters have a most frequently observed number of n = 9 haploid chromosomes (2n = 18 for diploid). the numerology of the word “aster” also happens to be nine and guess what! september is the 9th month of the year! is it obvious i really like the number 9? almost as much as i love asters <3

The Evermore Grimoire: Greek Mythology
Astraea (Ἀστραία, meaning 'star-maiden') was the virgin goddess of justice, innocence, purity and precision in greek mythology. She was also associated with Dike (goddess of justice) but not to be confused with Asteria (goddess of the stars). Astraea, the celestial virgin, was the last of the immortals to live with humans during the Golden Age, one of the old Greek religion's five deteriorating Ages of Man. According to Ovid, she abandoned the earth during the Iron Age. Fleeing from the new wickedness of humanity, she ascended to heaven to become the constellation Virgo. The nearby constellation Libra reflected her symbolic association with Dike, who in Latin culture as Justitia is said to preside over the constellation. In the Tarot, the 8th card, Justice, with a figure of Justitia, can be considered related to the figure of Astraea on historical iconographic grounds. According to legend, Astraea will one day come back to Earth, bringing with her the return of the utopian Golden Age of which she was the ambassador.

Virgo – The Ancient Greek Myth Behind the Zodiac Sign
Of all the twelve zodiac signs Virgo is maybe the most misunderstood, owing to the confusion of the translation of the word virgo, which, in Latin, means self-contained or self-sufficient and originally applied to unmarried women, including mothers.
The word Virgo should not be interpreted as a woman who is a virgin but more as a nurturing woman; mother to all of the Earth.
The following excerpt, taken from the gnostic text, ‘The Thunder, Perfect mind’, where the Greek goddess of wisdom, Sophia, states who she is, goes along way in helping to clear up the misinterpretation of the word virgo, or virgin and shows us that being a virgin has nothing to do with chastity :
‘For I am the first and the last. I am the honoured one and the scored one. I am the whore and the holy one. I am the wife and the virgin. I am the mother and the daughter. I am the members of my mother. I am the barren one and many are her sons. I am she whose wedding is great, and I have not taken a husband. ‘
The goddesses associated with Virgo are thought to be fertility goddesses or goddesses of the harvest which ties in with the Greek myth of Demeter; Greek goddess of the harvest, as the constellation Virgo is thought to be a woman holding a spike of corn, so resonating with the Harvest Mother myth. Portrait of a woman: Ruth (Ruth, by Francesco Hayez) Undated.

8: ZODIAC CONSTELLATIONS The ancient Greek Zodiakos, or Zodiac, is a division of the celestial sphere into twelve equal parts; each one containing a specific group of stars with a mythic association called a constellation. Ancient Greeks used the constellations for sailing navigation, time keeping for seasonal agricultural practices like planting and harvesting crops, mythic storytelling purposes, and astrology practices. Hellenistic Astrology, taking influence from the Babylonians and Egyptians, sought meaning in the zodiac signs and how they influenced a person’s character based on the position of the sun when they were born. They also used this practice for divination, providing guidance and predictions for the future. Let’s take a look at the twelve Zodiac constellations and their mythic tales. 1.) Aries (March 21-April 19) represents the flying golden ram sent by the gods to save the royal children Phrixus and Helle from sacrifice, and whose fleece later becomes the quested prize for the Argonauts. 2.) Taurus (April 20-May 20) represents the bull which Zeus transformed into to seduce Europa, and is linked to the Cretan Bull and the myth of the Minotaur. 3.) Gemini (May 21-June 21) represents the twins Castor and Pollux, sons of Zeus and Leda, known for their inseparable bond and heroic deeds. 4.) Cancer (June 22- July 22) represents the crab sent by Hera to distract Hercules during his battle with the Hydra, later placed in the sky by Hera as a constellation. 5.) Leo (July 23- Aug. 22) represents the lion, representing strength and kingship, associated with the Nemean Lion defeated by Hercules. 6.) Virgo (Aug 23- Sept 22) represents the maiden, often linked to the goddess of agriculture and fertility, such as Demeter or Persephone. 7.) Libra (Sept 23- Oct 23) represents goddess of justice Astraea, daughter of Themis, who carries the scales of justice. 8.) Scorpio (Oct 24- Nov 21) represents the scorpion sent by Artemis or Gaia to kill Orion 9.) Sagittarius (Nov 22- Dec 21) represents the centaur archer, often identified as the wise and skilled Chiron. 10.) Capricorn (Dec 22- Jan 19) represents the sea goat Aegipan, who aided Zeus in his fight against Typhon. 11.) Aquarius (Jan 20- Feb 18) represents the cupbearer of the gods, Ganymede, who was abducted by Zeus and placed among the stars. 12.) Pisces (Feb 19- March 20) represents the two fish, Aphrodite and Eros, who transformed to escape the monster Typhon.

Remember my hc about how the stars that were formaly living were watching the series play out like a tv?
I just realized how much chaos MoA would cause:
Ampelos when Bacchus is introduced: Thats my boyfriend :D
Hyades: we helped raise that boy :D
Ampelos when Bacchus refuses to help the seven: *screaming* HELP THEM! OH MY FUCKING GODS?
Hyades: .....this is from Silenus's parenting....
and then at the fall:
Euippe, daughter of Chiron and had more or less adopted Annabeth as her sister in her mind: NO ANNABETH!!! And percy!
Zoe: Perseus! Annabeth!
Hyas, brother of Zoe, trying to comfort his sister/s while freaking out: AT LEAST IT WILL BE A QUICK DEATH?
Alkyone and Kelaino, both lovers of Poseidon and had grown attached to Percy: *hugging each other* PERCYYYYYYY
Perseus and Andromeda, holding eachother in shock:....
Astraea, goddess of purity, innocence and justice: *watching in silent horror because she knows they both wont get out of this with whats left of their innocence, it will forever taint them and there will not be justice*......

Estrella Sotiriou is next! The mage of Integrity, known as Astraea Starelle in a past life... Now in the world of dislyte, is the esper of... Astraea-!! Go figure, right? Goddess of stars, of justice, and precision- She still has that hair braided crown, and unnaturally dark blue eyes. But both seem to be speckled with stars now...Hard to be discreet with that. A journalist who sticks to her morals, it's gotten her in trouble many times...And fired at least once- She's dedicated to telling two sides to every story, and it's gotten her many enemies...But also many loyal followers on her blog.
Despite it all, for better or for worse, she just can't keep her opinions to herself-! One can only hope that the target she paints on her back... Isn't struck someday, dead on...

Dearest Astraea,
Goddess of Justice
You, protector of the innocent
Ever watchful of humanity from the sky
Oh, my lady,
Give me strength
To weather the injustices I must experience
And to recover from those that left scars on my past
Give me the courage
To speak out against that which causes harm
And to stand firm against that which hurts me.
May I always strive to aid you
To be kind and to fight against cruelty in your honor.
May I shine as the light of stars in the darkness.
