Julie and Pres used to be lovers. Pres, who left Julie one year earlier on account of her boldness and stubborn behavior, is now back home in New Orleans with his newly-wed wife, while Julie is blissfully unaware of this fact... The story happens in the early years of the 1850s when the tensions stemming from slavery and yellow fever have begun to boil over. Having spent some time in the northern states, Pres is currently somewhat in favor of abolitionist ideas, which involves him in disputations with his southern fellows. It is worth mentioning that there are noticeable similarities between Jezebel (1938) and Gone with the Wind (1939), in particular the acting of the female leading roles in both classic films.

Musically this song is a rock-tango adaptation of Erik Satie’s “Gnosseinnes #1.” I mingled Satie’s melodicism with influences from glam rock, Nuevo Tango, and Astor Piazzolla. Felipe Torres called the song “elegant” and told me to make it the last track on my album I LIKE THE STREET—which is about to be reissued on CD (October 2024) and LP (early 2025).
