opened my copy of half-blood prince this morning right on the apparition chapter, and it's just hit me how similar it is to shifting, in principle.

'step two: focus your determination to occupy the visualized space! let your yearning to enter it flood from your mind to every particle of your body!' ... sounds like a shifting method to me.
