Utakata no Koi (Soragumi 2013) subtitles

my very first subtitles! this show ate my brain. i cry every time i hear the blue danube waltz now. rudolf and marie's hamlet-meets-juliet love story absolutely swept me off my feet and i had to share it with everyone i know.

thus: these subtitles (...and i guess all of my subs) are pretty thoroughly localized, and aimed at people who have zero knowledge of japanese. ...i also made a localization choice to just axe franz's mistress's name and call her by her actual historical name, katharina - she's in the cast list as mrs. schratt, but he calls her ミレーネ? make it make sense. if this bugs you please feel free to change it back to your preferred romanization, haha.

also, i did jessica's song by ear so if i've totally botched it, please let me know!

this is the last of the subs i already had done, but keep an eye out, i'm working on a few others - and you can definitely expect hoshigumi's 2018 utakata no koi from me. (and hey, if you have a revue you'd like subbed, i'm pretty much down to do most of them as long as i've got lyrics/CC! hit me up.)

Stage Musical Behind

Greetings! I'm back here after a long time since the last post. As you can obviously see, I'm still not over the Spy × Family Musical behind the scenes photos!

I picked three photos that consist as my personal favourites and redrew them into a chibi version of the original characters. These photos did involve some enhancement of lightings as well as shadings for it, so, it naturally took longer time to complete. Moreover, the angles and filters in each photo made this work quite refreshing to progress with.

The characters here include Handler/Sylvia Sherwood (played by Manato Asaka), Nightfall/Fiona Frost (played by Nonoka Yamaguchi) and Yuri Briar (played by Tsubasa Takizawa). The photos are obtained from the socials of these stage actors and I'll be sure to credit them down below.

All in all, I think it came out well and shall it be a sweet treat for the beginning of December. See you in the next post!

Musical Spy x Family Returns to the Stage in 2025

I don't know how I missed this, but it was announced earlier this week that the Spy x Family musical, which premiered in spring 2023, will be restaged in fall 2025.

With this announcement, it was also revealed that several cast members will return with the show. This includes:

Win Morisaki as Loid Forger Fuka Yuzuki as Yor Forger Tsubasa Takizawa as Yuri Briar Nonoka Yamaguchi as Fiona Frost Soma Suzuki as Henry Henderson Manato Asaka as Sylvia Sherwood

Newly confirmed cast members include

Genki Hirataka as Lord Forger Sora Kazuki as Yor Forger Sion Yoshitaka as Yuri Briar Shogo Suzuki as Franky Franklin

In addition, a new casting search will take place to find the four actresses who will portray Anya.

This production will hold its preview in Kawagoe in Sept. 2025 before traveling to Tokyo in October, Osaka and Fukuoka in November, and finally, Yamagata, Shizuoka, and Aichi in December. And as far as I can tell, this seems to be a restaging of the original musical rather than a continuation of it (adapting the next chapters/arcs). Either way, very excited to see this musical return.
