Prendergast loved the sea, and at times, as he was attempting a water cure to alleviate his deafness, his pleasure in bathing took on an almost hedonistic quality. "To take off one's clothes and lay full stretched on the sand exposed to the wind and the sun is the finest sensation I know on a spring day. Even in cold days in March one little realizes the penetrating force of the sun on the body." Although Prendergast had visited St. Malo during his 1891-1894 stay in Paris and also in 1914, it was his two-month summer visit in 1907 that inspired most of his canvases. St. Malo, situated on the Brittany Coast, had at the time a little more than ten thousand inhabitants. Prendergast was obviously attracted by the coastal town with "its high tides and ramparts, " where he painted such landmarks as the lighthouse and Chateaubriand's Tomb, but it was the fine sandy beach with its colourful bathing tents that attracted him the most. Just before the holidays, sparc!'s Ekua and Isabelle visited the Grove Hall Library to stock the Giving Cupboard* with hand-knitted scarves. These cozy creations were crafted with care during sparc!'s intergenerational knitting workshops held in October and November.

We also delivered 200 Free Art2Go bags to the Grove Hall and Egleston Libraries! Each bag was packed with festive holiday art projects and supplies designed to spark creativity and bring joy to the season. 🎨✨

Art defies such absolutes. It is neither “good” nor “bad.” It simply is. A child’s crayon drawing on the fridge, a song sung softly in a dimly lit room, or a story that never quite gets its ending right—all of these are art. Not because they adhere to some imagined standard, but because they carry the weight of a soul daring to speak.

There is power in imperfection. The sketch that you almost threw away holds the raw energy of a moment captured. That off-key note, ringing out in defiance, is an anthem to vulnerability. The plot hole in your story? It’s an invitation for the reader to dream beyond your words.
