"The Edge" another done oil painting

Here is another one of my paintings. Yes, it is sad and has a tendency toward depression, but I painted it from memories of my life, from a past I couldn’t let go of, that weighed me down and made me feel like I was on the edge. In this piece, I had painted wings on the girl, but as soon as I did, I burned the painting because the wings didn’t compensate for the gaze with which she kept looking at me.

It has become a habit for me to create something over a long period of time and then, in a matter of moments, destroy it. Maybe it’s some sort of transformation into another energy, or perhaps I’m just a crazy artist who doesn’t value his own efforts and work. But thank God, we live in an age of technology that allows us to capture creations, so they are not completely lost after all.

Fine vs Decorative Art

If a painting is created mainly to match a luxurious interior rather than to express something deeply personal or challenge ideas, then it leans more toward decorative art, even if it’s technically a painting. It becomes part of the decor rather than a standalone statement.

That raises an interesting question—does the intent of the artist or the way the artwork is used define whether it’s fine art or decorative art? If someone paints with raw emotion and meaning but it ends up as a luxury wall piece, does that change what it is?

Especially with modern abstract painting—it’s everywhere in high-end homes, hotels, and corporate spaces. A lot of it seems designed to be aesthetically pleasing but not too thought-provoking, so it blends into the environment rather than demanding attention. It feels like abstraction has been commercialized into a luxury good rather than a form of deep expression, at least in many cases.

Of course, that doesn't mean all abstract art today is purely decorative. There are still artists pushing boundaries and using abstraction in meaningful ways. But a lot of what sells seems to be more about fitting a vibe than saying something.

🎨 3D Sonic Model Inspired by Naoto Ohshima 🎮

A few days ago, I finished a 3D model of Sonic, inspired by Naoto Ohshima’s classic design🦔. This project was a huge challenge and, honestly, one of the toughest I’ve taken on so far! I created this model vertex by vertex, which was incredibly time-consuming, and I struggled to keep everything symmetric. Some parts didn’t come out quite right, and I spent several days working on it. This will probably be the last time I model something entirely this way – I’m already exploring new techniques to speed up my workflow and improve the quality of each model I make.

At one point, I thought about giving up on this project, but I pushed through and finished it. Right now, the model is in a T-pose, as you can see in the images. I really tried rigging it, but I’m not quite there yet in skill level. However, I'm improving every day, and I’m sure I'll be able to rig my models soon! This Sonic model has been a serious test of patience and learning, but I’m glad I stuck with it.

I’m very passionate about my art. It’s what brings me joy. Looking back this year I feel like I’ve made some good progress.

Really pleased with some of the pieces I finished this year. Oct was my high point though more chill in the Nov/Dec time. Onwards to 2024 ! 💫

Little Wizard

Once again, another painting that had no concept or idea from the start, apart from the fact that I decided to paint myself. Since I had been painting girls, I thought, “Why not paint a boy?” And because I didn’t want to paint just anyone, the best choice was to paint myself. So, I gave him my eyes.

This painting stood untouched for a very long time—around a year, maybe even a year and a half. This was unusual for me, but I was simply painting other works. Now, I’ll step away from the painting itself and recall a story.

Years ago, I went to see a witch/fortune teller. She performed cleansing rituals for me and read cards. It was my first visit to someone like that, just out of curiosity. This was about six or seven years before I began painting this piece. What stuck with me after that visit was her telling me I had one wish and mentioning a specific church. She said that if I lit a candle in a particular spot in that church, the wish would come true.

It sounded so simple—make a wish. But because I believed I only had one wish, I felt the need to choose very carefully. Coming up with that wish took me seven years. The funny thing is, I never came up with one for myself. I didn’t need money, happiness, or anything material or emotional. It felt like sacrificing a wish for something that might come naturally with time wasn’t worth it. I thought it would be better to save the wish for a special moment.

Returning to the painting: It was started, with the eyes painted in, but not much more. One morning, I woke up and suddenly began painting the candle. I felt an incredible energy as I did so—like I was lighting the candle myself. The flame felt strangely alive.

In the painting, as you can see, the candle is placed in the brain and presented on a platter. At first, I couldn’t understand why. Nor could I understand why there was a small boat behind the boy, standing in a swamp. It seemed as if the boy was a sorcerer who had discovered a secret temple and entered it to perform some unusual ritual. In his right hand, he holds a heart that emits light, preventing him from sinking into darkness.

After painting the flame on the candle, a sudden force pushed me to go to the city, to that specific place. It felt like I had to be there at that exact moment. It was the church the fortune teller had mentioned years ago.

I got on my bike and pedaled 25 kilometers in one direction, with all my might, feeling like I didn’t have much time. Finally, I arrived. I entered through massive square double doors into a dark room. It was cloudy outside, so little light came through the windows, and there were hardly any lit candles.

I was drawn to the darkest corner, where there was a table with no candles on it. I bought a single candle, lit it from another table, and slowly, holding it close to my face and shielding it with my hand, made my way to that dark corner to place the candle on the table.

As I reached the table, I suddenly remembered my friend. She had been going through painful experiences and was constantly plagued by misfortunes. I sacrificed my wish to ask the candle’s light to protect her from misfortune and bring her good luck.

I placed the candle precisely in the center of the table, turned around, and started to leave. But then, a strange sensation overtook me—my body felt as if it was being shaken from within, as if some unknown energy was passing through me. I quickened my pace, almost running, jumped on my bike, and began pedaling back home.

I can’t remember if my friend thanked me that evening—our relationship was virtually nonexistent—but I always felt connected to her in some way. Maybe she did thank me without realizing why. But something definitely happened.

Returning to the painting: A few months later, I finished it, adding light and color. Then I noticed something remarkable. The table with the brain and candle was identical to the one where I had placed the candle while thinking about the wish. Behind me were massive double doors, with a square stone frame like the entrance depicted in the painting.

That day, it had been raining. Everything was wet and damp, just like the swamp in the painting. My boat symbolized the vehicle I needed to power with my own legs.

This became the third or fourth painting that made me realize it wasn’t just an image on a flat surface—it was something more. I started to see the future or control it, or perhaps I saw the future and could change it. I haven’t fully figured it out yet, but with every change in a painting, significant events occur that initially seem unrelated but later fall into place, becoming clear.

I’ve painted 18 pieces in total. Not all have such deep and lengthy stories, but 8 or 9 of them have tales of their own to tell. I plan to continue sharing these stories because I want them to be more than just my experiences. I hope they inspire others to think about how what we create carries meaning and energy far beyond what we can comprehend.
