Cosmic Spring

Hagane wo Tsugu Mono: As the Gate of Destruction opens, the first thing to emerge is a pair of giant hands, but there appears to be a maw between them, and each digit appears to have a mouth. GARO and HAGANE stand against the evil. The memorial stone glows and an earthquake shakes CREACITY, Ron and Obi knowing what it must mean. GARO and HAGANE fight the Horror Mutsugi, but she is even more able to avoid their attacks than Mutsugi was, and traps the two in a void. Koyori finds the resolve to stan, and takes up Mutsugi's Madou Brush. The two Makai Knights are trapped in a Makai Realm, where they are quickly restrained, the Horror Mutsugi pouring Jaki onto both of them, which starts rapidly mirroring their armours throughout. Rocks are launched at them which Souma breaks free and destroys so they can't hit Ryuga, then as more fly throws his sword to stop, leading both of them to fall as the Jaki becomes immobilising, the Horror Mutsugi gloating that the light of hope will be snuggled out by the darkness, even Zaruba warning Ryuga he will fall to darkness. Ryuga remembers Goudo's words, of the Senkokenbu's sister technique, the Seneikenbu, and resolves to turn all of Garo's light into darkness. The light radiating off is so intense it undoes the corruption to HAGANE, freeing Souma from it's grip, and GARO Yami uses the Seneikenbu to slice the Horror, releasing Mutsugi and destroying the Seducer. Koyori sees the tear in space vanish as Ryuga and Souma appear, and thanks Ryuga for releasing Mutsugi from darkness, he gives a moments comfort, before turning their attention to sealing the Gate of Destruction. IRUVA awakens to inform that the Dragon Head of the Gate of Destruction is an ancient Horror their ancestors used to seal the Gate of Destruction, now awakened and seeking to consume human souls, they cannot hope to get close. Ryuga tells Souma they can use Senkokenbu, but Souma is afraid, having never mastered it, but Ryuga knows Godou had faith in him, and IRUVA relates how on that fateful day, Godou told Mutsugi that Souma snapped out of the darkness on his own from hearing his voice, so he knows one day he will manage it, as the next ZANGO. With his father's words, and encouragement from Koyori and Ryuga, Souma is encouraged. Ryuga attempts to summon GARO unsuccessfully, it will need purifying before he can use it, Souma offers a solution, Igusu's Makaiken, having take it from his grave, seeking to fight with him again. (As an aside, it is canon according to Yoseki no Wana that HAGANE has in fact been worn by most titled Knights before receiving their title, Ryuga may be the exception given his circumstances.) Ryuga summons HAGANE, and alongside Souma, with encouragement from Godou's will, the two HAGANE, and the image of GARO and ZANGO, together use Senkokenbu to cut down the Horror, ending the threat. Ryuga helps Souma up, praising him. The Gate of Destruction now appears to be permanently sealed by ZANGO, the spirits of Godou, Mutsugi and Igusu look on at the next generation. 3 proper graves are made for the mentors, Ryuga noting the ancestors must have realised it was impossible to destroy the Gate of Destruction, and chosen to live with it as best they could, after great sacrifice, and Souma now recognising just fighting Horrors isn't the answer, they also need to pass down the will of HAGANE. Ryuga goes to leave CREACITY to Koyori, Souma, Ron and Obi, needing to purify GARO asap. On his journey Ryuga stops to look at a certain har ornament on his person, and smile before continuing.

New Generation Stars: Yuka and the robot look confused at the new Hyper Keys, Ignis arriving and being informed. The robot offers a possible solution, that she unwittingly picked up data from another universe while in sleep mode, something Ignis didn't know she could do, having picked her up in space. The Robot introduces itself properly as Ediom, and AI that once committed a grave sin. Launched millennia ago from Ialim to record history, Ediom came to feel the loneliness of civilisations as they died, and that it was the loneliest of all, leading to it's warped decision to erase the Land of Light's database to see how the Ultras would react, only to see them not only restore the data, but save it in the process. Realising the error of it's ways, it created a body which Ignis then took. Yuka needs to process, and they decide to show more data, of the Ten Heisei Ultras against Etelgar and his Eteldummies. Yuka is overwhelmed by more Ultras she hasn't seen, so they show someone she is more familiar with, Ignis as Dark Trigger and Trigger against Aboras and Banila, then Trigger and Decker on the moon against Spheres. Yuka is a little calmer, but Ediom cannot explain what drew it to Yuka. Ignis takes the Earth Garon and Blazar keys, as Yuka and Ediom resolve to keep working together.

Gotchard:

Bunboomger: On his first formal day, Jou asks to join the Bunboomgers, to even Chassiro's surprise, Taiya turns him down. The Hashiliens are annoyed to find they still aren't getting media attention, and create a Darts Kurumajin. Taiya doesn't clearly explain to the others his reasoning. Jou wonders what he lacks, and is alerted to the Kurumajin, forcing people to play darts and subjecting them to punishment games if they miss the bullseye, he calls the team, and then volunteers to play to protect a potential victim, and instead of aiming for the bullseye deliberately hits the eye, creating a distraction so the victims can escape, but getting a beating for his trouble. The Bunboomgers arrive, but Mira is quickly goaded into playing and subjected to Pan rain, Chassiro to explosive treats, and while Taiya hits the bullseye, his prize is the electric chair. To protect the Bunboomgers, Jou charges in, doing whatever he can to interfere with the Kurumajin, and Taiya, satisfied now about his reasons, has Genba deliver the Bun Change Axe to him. Jou becomes BunBlack, and together the 4 Bunboomgers fight, with Jou defeating the Kurumajin on his own, though Yarucar immediately consumes the Gyasoline and rampages. The chase is on, Taiya gives Jou use on Bunboom Patocar 1, and Chassiro, accompanied by Mira, drives Bunboom Patocar 2, which together have the skills to force Yarucar off the road, and form Bunboomger Robo Police, which uses gunplay to stop every dart, and defeat the Kurumaju. Saibu is told of Jou being made a Bunboomger, as Bunboom offers another round of curry.

Dawn breaks over the sprawling forests and towering mountains of Garos. Ahsoka watches the early morning light cut through the trees, through a train car window smudged with fingerprints. In Ahsoka’s arms, Rex sleeps.

Rex doesn’t sleep anymore.

Not since before the war ended, and that's just a colossal cosmic joke, isn't it? Because the end of the war should have meant rest, finally, finally rest. Instead, it means running, and hiding, and constantly looking over their shoulders, and burying family.

Or, and perhaps this is worse, it means not knowing what happened to them at all. Like Anakin, who's always been so blinding and bright, even at a distance. Anakin, whose presence in the Force has vanished, her connection to him severed like he never even existed.

In Ahsoka's arms, Rex sleeps, and she couldn't move if she tried, even if she wanted to. He's been holding her together practically since the day they met, back when she was a spirited 14-year-old girl being dropped into a warzone like that was something normal. It's her turn now.

Garos is beautiful and temperate and, most importantly, it’s far enough from the Core for the two of them to feel almost safe, if only for a moment. Ahsoka is almost glad for the months she spent out of the shelter of the Order; it makes her feel a little less out of place now, on a half-empty commuter train from Garos’ capital city of Ariana to the resort town of Zila. They’ll stay by the oceanside for a few days at least while they think about their next move, about where they’ll go next.

Because that’s life now for a traitor and a deserter, both presumed dead. Keep your head down. Keep moving. Hope the Empire doesn’t catch wise.

In a way, Ahsoka’s time away from the Jedi and the army makes the unrelenting loneliness feel like less of a shock, even if only marginally. But for Rex, the loneliness is brand new; he is one of millions of brothers, identical in appearance but individual in every way that matters. He was never meant to be alone.

The Rex she knows, the Rex of before, would feel so out of place here. But he’ll pass for a civilian just fine, Ahsoka thinks, as long as nobody recognizes his face. Fast asleep with his mouth slack and frown lines smoothed, for once he actually looks his age. He’s traded his armour, which is neatly stacked in a bag at his feet, for a dark pair of trousers and a plain black sweater. His under armour is folded at the top of the bag, covering the distinctive white plastoid underneath. Ahsoka stretches as far as she can without jostling the slumbering man on her shoulder and flicks her foot at the lip of the bag to conceal the Republic Cog emblazoned on the top.

Under Ahsoka’s cheek, Rex’s blond curls are growing out longer than she’s ever seen them, and the roots are black. He’s always been meticulous about his hair, always finding the time and supplies to keep it maintained. Now the overgrowth—on his face, too, where she can see the beginnings of a beard—is just another sign that Rex is not okay.

Not that she needs any more proof, what with his gaze being as vacant as it always is now. The closest she's ever seen him to the haunted look he now wears constantly was right after the campaign on Umbara. But Umbara was nothing, incomparable to what happened to their family, to Rex’s family, aboard the Tribunal. It's like he drags along the weight of every man unearthed and then reburied on that moon, every body they couldn’t retrieve that remains entombed in the venator’s wreckage, and every clone that still lives under the Emperor's thumb. Ahsoka knows he does because she does too.

He’s spent his life worrying; for his brothers, for his general, for her. Always the soldier. It’s unfair. It has always all been so unfair. He deserves not to worry, at least for a little while. So Ahsoka does what she can to give him one less thing, one less person to worry about. She holds in the tears even while the Force surrounding her, once so lively and bright with the presence of so many other souls, aches like a phantom limb.

She’s tried not to cry, has fought the urge whenever Rex can see—especially when she knows Rex can see. So far, she’s cracked only once: after two straight days of digging when they’d finally dragged Jesse’s mangled body from the wreckage of their doomed Jedi cruiser. Rex had always made a point of knowing every single brother he served with, but Jesse had been at his side near since the beginning. He'd made it through battles on Mimban and Anaxes and exposed that traitorous General Krell, had helped keep Rex alive on Saleucami, had become an ARC trooper, had survived an encounter with Maul, of all people. Jesse was one of the first and last, one of the few who had managed to stay alive to the end, only to die senselessly and no longer himself.

So finding Jesse had hurt the most, worse than the troopers whose helmets still bore Ahsoka’s likeness or the shinies who hadn't even seen battle long enough to earn their paint. As they dug, Rex said nothing of the severed limbs, the traumatic injuries and wounds that were too precise to have been caused by the crash, so neither did she. But the guilt of knowing what or who had caused them threatened to swallow her all the same.

Jesse’s left side was crushed; it was nothing Ahsoka hadn’t already seen while unearthing clone after clone from the debris. There was a large dent in his helmet from a blow that she hopes killed him instantly, but she knows now that the galaxy is rarely ever so merciful. Rex was at her side immediately, grasping each side of Jesse’s helmet and lifting it off like all the others because he insisted on looking upon every single face, even as Ahsoka watched him shrink inward with each new set of his own dead eyes staring back at him.

The first gasping cry was torn from his chest without his permission, followed by another, and another. Again and again, until he finally crumpled to the dusty ground with his forehead resting against Jesse’s, saltwater washing away dirt and blood from their faces, and just like when the order was declared Ahsoka knew he had no choice but to fall apart.

As she watched him finally break, her own tears spilled over. They cried together, Ahsoka holding Rex and Rex holding Jesse, until they could no longer spare any more time. They had work to do, and surely someone would come searching for their missing cruiser soon.

They stayed on the moon for three more days, but Rex stopped looking at their bare faces after Jesse.

Day breaks over the mountains, and Ahsoka lifts her free hand to block the harsh light from reaching his flickering eyelids. Because Rex doesn't sleep anymore and Ahsoka will be damned if she allows anything to disturb his rest.

The night eventually catches up with her and Ahsoka snaps awake when she feels herself nodding off, her hand automatically drifting to one of Rex’s blasters that now rests in a holster at her hip, hidden under her cloak. Nobody new has entered or exited their train car in some time, and there are no more stops between here and Zila, but Ahsoka refuses to risk falling asleep and leaving them both vulnerable.

Rex's breath hitches, but his eyes remain closed. He grasps her wrist and gently squeezes.

“Go to sleep, kid.”

She hums a negative and shifts to sit up straighter, but when she looks at Rex his eyes are now open and his gaze is on her, still achingly sad but looking more rested than he has in weeks.

“Thank you,” he says softly. “It’s okay. I’ve got this.”

I’ll be okay. I’ve got you.  

Like he always has.

She holds him closer, turns her face to his shoulder where the light won’t reach her, and drifts.

The sun keeps rising.

The first release on the brand new DigBig Records comes from prolific Swedish composer, producer and DJ Joey FDH. In Level 7, Joey steps away from the harder electro beats she’s known for and goes inward to explore the depths and corners of her own shadow through four slow burners. The EP rides a soft yet sinister groove with two acidic workouts on the A side - the beautifully atmospheric Acid Girl and the cosmic-dreamy eponymous Level 7. B side morphs effortlessly onto heavier but just as funky vibes with Shadow Play that slaps in the face with infectious breaks and the hypnotically thumping Shift Shaper. Spending over a decade in Berlin honing her signature dark sound, Joey FDH has recently returned to her homeland to find new inspiration in the forests and moors surrounding her now, adding a refreshingly introspective layer to her productions.

I hope this isn't too much of a bother, however, do you have any toku recommendations that aren't super sentai, kamen rider or ultraman

No bother at all!  I have lots of Non-Franchise recommendations!  There is so much more to Tokusatsu than the big 3 properties and so much of it needs more exposure!  

Let’s start with a couple of series from the most prolific comics writer in history (according to the Guiness Book of World Records) and the creator of Kamen Rider, Shotaro Ishinomori. As well as that massive franchise, he did a lot of solo series work.  One of his best was from 1985, Kyodai Ken Bycrosser (Brother Fist Bycrosser).

This tells the tale of two brothers who are given powers by mysterious aliens to fight against an evil diamond collector using a demonic stature to turn the cries of children into diamonds!  The fiend!  Alternating between really silly and somewhat serious episodes, it’s a series for those who like their tokusatsu heavy on action, peppered with little kids in peril and all about the bond between brothers!

An earlier work of Ishinomori-san’s was Akumaizer 3 from 1975!

This is a weird one, even by the standards on 1970s tokusatsu. It follows three heroes from an underground society of evil mutant/demon/cyborg creatures called the Akuma Clan.  These three are rebels, fighting against the others of their world to protect humanity from being conquered. This is basically the demonic three musketeers who fly around in a stolen 17th century galleon that transforms into a weird red, white and blue flying fortress with a gaping mouth.

Moving to a little more modern series (and away from Ishinomori) we have 1996′s Choukou Senshi Changéríon.

This was the first series shot on video and so it looks a little odd compared to the other shows of the time (which were still shot on 16mm film).  It’s also a weird series in that the main protagonist was never intended to be a hero and is, in fact, probably one of the worst heroes ever.  He’s selfish, a liar, a womanizer and loves to shirk responsibility.  He is forced into the role of a hero though when he is given the power of Changerion to battle an invasion of extra-dimensional energy vampires bent on devouring humanity.  The action is fun, the suit very unique and the characters enjoyable (if not entirely lovable).

Moving up even closer is a series from Godzilla producers Toho in association with video game producer Konami, 2003′s Chouseishin Gransazer.

In this series, humans who are descended from an ancient civilizations wiped out by aliens millions of years ago inherit the powers of their ancestors as well as the ability to pilot giant robots known as the Star Gods (Seishin).  They must defend the Earth against the same aliens that once wiped out civilization who have come back to finish the job but first they need to stop fighting among themselves and unite against this cosmic threat. The 12 heroes of the show are divided into tribes of three based on the classical elements (Fire, Wind, Earth and Water) and each tribe has to unite to activate their Star God.  The action is well choreographed and the suits very well designed.For something for an older audience who leans more towards the horror side of things, I cannot recommend the Garo franchise enough.

This is the story of the Makai Knights, a group of magical warriors who are the only thing that can stand against the demonic Horrors that lurk in the shadows of our world. They Makai Knights are armed with mystic swords and in times of trouble can summon a suit of magic armor to protect themselves and increase their abilities.  The greatest of these knights is the Golden Knight Garo and the first series is all about the adventures of the modern inheritor of this title, Kouga Saejima and his battle to save a young painter from her dark fate. This titles has recently been released on Blu-Ray in the US so now is the best time to hop on and get into it.  I have also written a brief guide to what order to watch the series in (not including the animated entries which I have yet to see).  You can find that here X.

That is a quick rundown of a few of my recommendations for mostly Non-Franchise tokusatsu.  Yes, Gransazer was the first part of a trilogy of series and Garo continues on to this day but they are different enough (and I love them so much) that I had to mention them!

Fic excerpt, spoilers for Persona 5. Futurefic Akira/Sae.

"It is quite the view," Sae said as she turned to face him.

Some part of his brain registered that she had changed very little in the intervening years. There were fresh lines around her eyes, but she wore the same stylish, severe blazer and silver necklace and lapel pin that glittered like stars in darkness. Her hair hung loose about her shoulders. His mouth turned dry. She watched him with the half-smile and arched eyebrow of a woman who knew more than she was letting on, who like him had tried to hold onto her honor while keeping her head above water. A woman who had fought her demons—literally—and had come out victorious. A woman who was, in short, beautiful.

Akira rocked back on his heels. Beautiful. Not a word he had associated with her five years ago. She had been the enemy then, a woman with the power to condemn him to juvenile hall if he made one wrong step. Who had interrogated him after he had been beaten and drugged. Who he had fought and then helped save. Who had then saved his life. Not a woman he should be attracted to, but the sparks danced along his skin all the same. Now it was Ryuji's voice in his head. It had been so long since he had had a girlfriend. He needed to start dating again. Somehow he doubted that this was who Ryuji had in mind.

"I heard about the book deal," she continued. Her voice was different than he remembered. Nervous, almost tentative. "Children's fantasy, was it? Good for you." Her gaze flickered downward for a fraction of a second. "I was worried for a while about what those months in confinement would do to you."

"Had to be done. Shido is rotting where he belongs." Which had made the months staring at the white walls and being treated as if he were one breath away from becoming a monster any easier.

You could have avoided all that. But no, you had to be a hero.

"You needed my help?" he asked.

She relaxed, breathed a sigh of relief, and gestured for him to sit. A thick file folder set on the desk. Inside was a mug shot of a man in his thirties: slightly overweight, shabbily dressed—and with an expression of utter confusion and terror. "Hachiro Sato. Married for ten years, three children between the ages of two and six. He stabbed them to death and was found kneeling over their bodies, sobbing and with the knife still in his hand. No known motive, but the prosecutor expects to seek the death penalty. Open and shut case."

After everything he'd seen with Garo and Shido, he shouldn't be shocked in the depths of depravity that parents could inflict on their children, but his mind recoiled at the thought of a two-year-old begging her father not to kill him. "I hope he ha—” Reason overtook rage. “Wait. You wouldn't call me for an open and shut case. You wouldn't take an open and shut case.” His eyes widened. You wanted my 'special expertise.' You think Shadows are involved.”

“I do.” She flipped to another page of the dossier. "Mr. Sato was known to be an exemplary family man and philanthropist. Extensive investigation hasn't produced any evidence of antisocial behavior before this. Ordinarily, I would say he's just another sociopath whose good at hiding it, but he's been almost catatonic since then. Insofar as I've been able to talk to him, he speaks of darkness and voices and appears to have no memory of the murderers themselves. Exactly like those Goro drove insane."

Akira exhaled. The idea that someone else had the power to brewing as many lives as Goro had made him sick. "He only had that power because Yaldaboath gave it to him, and the demon seemed pretty clear that it was a game with two sides. You're telling me there some other cosmic sadist out there?" Sweat formed on his hands. There was another possibility. Goro had broken so many people without thought or care, but Shido had broken him, too. He had been Akira's friend. "Do you think Goro could be alive?"

"You have a talking cat. Anything is possible. But I don't think it's likely." Her voice softened, the same tone she had used with him so long ago when she had told him that he would have to turn himself in. "You're a kinder person than me to pity him. But then, I never was very good at being kind. But you know that too."

He swallowed. None of them like to talk about it, but there had always been an intimacy between the Phantom Thieves and their targets; seeing someone's deepest desires, fears, and sins and forcing them to feel remorse. Most of them had been such monsters that he had tried to put his time in the Palaces out of his mind and moved on. But Sae wasn't a monster; she had believed him and saved his life. So seeing the Leviathan—that tarted up reject from a fetish nightclub, seething and pulsing with envy and bitterness—stirred something within him, just like Yuki and Futaba's shadows had stirred something within him, just as Yuki and Futaba's shadows had stirred something within him. His hand snaked out to cover hers. "Everybody's got a dark side. You, me. Everybody. It's choosing to do the right thing that matters.”

They both looked down. Her thumb peeked out from under his palm. Violet. The only part of her that was anything other than staid and respectable. Her skin was pale and smooth and warm like a Café le Blanc special. You could curl up to warmth like that. How long had it been since he had even held hands with anyone other than one of his friends? Three or four years since he and Hifumi had snuck off during breaks in her tournaments? To make out, sure, but sometimes just to take a walk. Something private, just for the two of them?

To remember that he had someone.

A heated conflict between Ryuga and Sento erupts...is the Build Driver a tool of Justice or was it intended to be an evil weapon? Is Build nothing more that a tool of destruction? 

We also get to see a big cat Bottle power suck up the grimy, lurking dust bunnies of evil to clean the bright, fluffy shag carpeting of justice!

Japan World Heroes: Closing Day Part 1:  The Panels

Made it in time for the Kaiju Kingdom panel to end. (LA timezones still mess with my biological clock). I witnessed a trailer for an indie documentary on tokusatsu kaiju filmmaking coming in 2018.

After some browsing and a little money left, a trio of cheap Legend Rider Astroswitches became mine for only $10 and a pair of art prints were bought to cheer up an artist who was having a rough weekend because of the toy vendors  overshadowing his stand. (For those curious, I got Stronger, 1, and 2)

The Viewing Room’s selection was decent, Kamen Rider Heisei Generations, the Gokaiger and Zyuohger 2,000th Super Sentai Episode special, the latest episode of Kyuranger and.... *ugh* Kamen Rider Taisen.

I then witnessed the first episode of Mystic Cosmic Patrol at its panel, surprisingly hosted by Internet personality Andre the Black Nerd as well as the crew and cast of the production. They were there to promote it and answer questions. I asked if the staff were going to take a potshot at Masked Rider in the parody and they said yes. 

Upon seeing the episode, it wasn’t exactly my cup of tea, as some of its cruder humor was not my thing. But I remain optimistic and want to support this independent group’s project.

Next up was Mr. Kaneko’s Panel. He spoke of his time on Gaoranger, including a funny story about shooting an episode with a dog in the middle of winter. He delivered a shock to Rider fans as he revealed he almost became Kamen Riders Kuuga, Agito or G3 but failed to pass the final rounds of audition. We all participated in a group Gaoranger transformation pose after Mr. Kaneko did a demonstration. He thanked US fans for supporting Super Sentai and loved his time in the US as it is opposite to conventions in Japan. In Japan, it is just a cheap mandatory gig and the events just drain him, but being in a new location and seeing so many fans giving him so much love supercharged his energy so much that the excitement of meeting them all kept him up at night.

At Mr. Fukuzawa’s Panel, he discussed his time as the legendary monster Gamera in Gamera 3: The Revenge of Iris.

He and his buddy Michi Yamato talked about the business of being a suit actor. I asked during the Q&A what the most uncomfortable role as a Red Ranger was for him (His favorite of course was Shinken Red due to his samurai sword action training being put to good use). He answered that he disliked playing Go-On Red as Sosuke’s hyperactive personality was difficult for a more reserved person like him to emulate. Even if the director said he got it right, Hirofumi would always feel he didn’t put enough energy into the role or did it properly as he and Yasuhisa Furuhara had differing personalities and to him, it showed on camera.  

He also discussed Power Rangers with Michi and then Hirofumi did several poses at the request of fans such as Gosei Blue, Shinken Red, Gokai Red, and AbaRed and thanked everyone for their support before leaving.

The panels ran a bit off so some were compressed or moved so time became more rushed. The cosplay workshop 101 panel was dropped and the next guest was Dore Kraus from Ultraman Towards the Future, who not only gave insight into the difficult conditions of the troubled show but some good life and acting advice to the younger generations. Great guy, he had a booth for autographs and displayed not-for-sale merchandise from his show. His time there was brief as he had to head back home as his entry into JWH was last minute.

Fujiyama Ichiban I skipped mostly due to the fact my legs were falling asleep from sitting too long.

After stirring up some circulation and interacting with a cute 6 mo. old St. Bernard puppy, I noticed a lot of parents who were attending a Lego Convention upstairs. Most of them were weirded out at the acts unfolding below as they escorted their children to restrooms and decided to politely encourage their kids to stay away from the vendor toys.  *sigh* Some of the Normals are not yet ready for us...

At the final Panel, the scene was winding down as the cosplayers had all gone home and the vendors were ready to pack it in. The TokuNet Crew discussed the heroes outside of Toei’s Super Hero Time and Tsuburaya’s Ultraman. Garo came up and the group was obviously drained from a long weekend of doing panels. When the mention of Garo’s US release came up I reminded them that the home video discs for Season 1 would be complete around the holidays, which people who had never heard of the series showed interest in.

Before I packed it in and prepared for a freebie day of fun tomorrow, I summoned my courage and shut off my social anxiety for about 5 minutes to thank Marzgurl and by proxy the TokuNet team for coming to support the event and introduced myself as an admin for RangerWiki. She thanked everyone who participates on there for their efforts to keep RangerWiki as a credible source and then I said farewell to her and a silent one to the dying magic of the Con.

I know not when this event will rise again, or even if this was just a fluke and will never come to pass for another time. But for one magical weekend, my brothers and sisters of fandom heeded the call and assembled in a little city outside of LA to celebrate what they love. And to all who made it possible, I thank each and every one of you.
