Art and Craft Techniques
Beyond the strokes of a paintbrush, KNMA brings forth a rich tapestry of Indian art and craft techniques. The museum serves as a living testament to the skilled hands that weave, mold, and shape raw materials into exquisite forms of expression. Visitors are transported into a world where artistry extends beyond canvas and into the realms of craft.

Not Tolkien related, but I'm actually lowkey proud of how this self portrait embroidery is going 🤩 Ignore the eyes being proportionally and directionally "off" lol, and the too-long nose/anatomical mistakes. I'm more focusing on learning "thread painting" techniques than exact and accurate anatomy representation (or at least, that's my excuse 😅)
Also I chose to do a self portrait bc at the time of needing a reference photo to practice embroidered portraits, I have, in fact, the face most readily available to me lol
#embroidery#textiles#fiber arts#thread painting#hand embroidery#needlework#crafting#my art#not tolkien#I'm in my 'embroidery and cross stitch' hyper fixation phase y'all!#I'm a beginner embroiderer tho (and I haven't tried cross stitch yet) so I'm not very knowledgable of#official and proper technique/stitch types LOL but i enjoy thread painting bc it's the type of embroidery that makes the most sense to#my illustration brain? If that makes sense#Still want to learn proper embroidery tho!

@batrogers asked:
Also, second prompt, Tundra or Gaoler in recycled materials? (Also hello fellow Flight Rising fan!)
Hello fellow FR fan! :D I have drawn my very colorful boy!
I am super pleased with how this one came out. A recycled pudding jar, with a thin layer of tissue paper glued to it, colored with sharpies, and black details gone over with acrylic paint to be more opaque. It's so pretty when the light goes through it, and the colors reflect on the shiny buttons inside :3

Just wanted to share my latest miniature - I'm calling it 'Bloom' and it will be part of the 'Stories of Home' exhibit at the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives later next month :)
I tried a few new techniques for this, and I'm happy with how it all came together. The flowers posed some slight issues here and there, and I have a few floral rejects. I'll probably revisit this technique again in the future and make a few other smaller versions.

do you have advice for starting on making pieces like yours? I've been trying to take up needle felting, but I struggle with my pieces never being nearly as dense as I feel they ought to be, and they always still have.... Lines? From where the felt was folded or wrapped around
I think the biggest tip I have to offer is that if you think you've stabbed enough, keep going! Firm cores make it easier to build up smooth colors, so I aim for about the same feel as a tennis ball. Start small and build up bigger in layers rather than trying to start large, that makes it way easier to ensure that everything is felted all the way through. If you start with a really thick piece of core wool, it's hard to get your needles into the center and you end up with a squishy middle even if you get the outside fairly firm.
For colors, to eliminate those striations, I take a pinch of the color I'm working with and pull the fibers apart and stack them back together at a few different angles so that the fibers are laying all different directions. Put the thickest part of that 'patch' over the line you're trying to hide, and it should smooth out - if not with the first layer, do it again!
Ultimately, needle felting takes patience and most of the time the answer is "more felting"! I also recommend drawing out your plan before you start so you have a good idea of where you're headed, then you can focus on the execution and not worry about designing as you go.

I started this before the gigaleak happened, haha
Wayfinder Trio (+Plus Vanitas) and their aces
Honestly, these aren't as deep as the other mix-and-match themes I've done for KH characters; more so based on vibes and the Pokemons' type and temperament than anything deeply lore related. However...
Vanitas' Grimsnarl honestly came to me before any other Pokemon- even when I laid eyes on it, I knew it'd be a Vanitas Pokemon (I even named my own Grimsnarl Vanitas lol) Something about it being what's essentially a 'fairy tale monster' and Vanitas kind of being that as well.
-
The Togetic Ventus has is something that was not my own, but @rosie-kairi 's idea- one that I thought fit him so, so, so very well. A little kid who has no friends, having a friendship-based evolution line- as well as an egg Pokemon representing his young age and growing up into his potential. Perfection.
-
For Terra, I searched up Ground Types on Bulbapedia hoping to strike something; I wanted a Ground/Dark type, but only found Krookodile. Then I remembered that Tyrannitar was what I was looking for with its Rock/Dark typing and pseudo-legendary status, since Terra probably single-handedly the strongest Keybarer alive currently (not accounting Luxu).
-
I tried to avoid starters for their Pokemon, but honestly, I felt Primarina was perfect for Aqua. A Water/Fairy type with a graceful look. If not for Primarina, I would have given Aqua a Gardevoir as her ace instead. Though she still probably has one on her team.
#I'm not used to drawing pokemon#also I'm trying out a new shading technique#All their poses are based off of trainer poses- see if you can guess them all!#Not sure what other pokemon they'd have#except Vanitas would probably use a lot of dark and poison type#that seems really 'him'#Ventus probably has a bunch of pokemon he found about- not really trying to craft a 'team'#Terra would have bulky hard-hitters#and Aqua would have a near competitive team lol#Yeah I'm doing the other trios/quads as well#Kingdom Hearts#KH#Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep#KHBBS#Terra#Aqua#Ventus#Vanitas KH#Pokemon#Goldenchocobo's art

Ok I had good luck with responses last time I asked the great and mighty fiber craft community things via the void of tumblr so I’m going to try a gain!
So I’m hoping to teach myself knitting! I found a site online (sheepandstitch .com) that had some tips and videos for beginners. I followed their advice and got some thicker yarn (number 6 extra bulky) and thicker bamboo needles (9mm, also accidentally some 5.5mm needles but those are like 13in long, the joys of online buying 😅).
So I have some beginning supplies but I haven’t started yet. I know it’s going to be different for everyone but is it generally better to learn from a book/patterns or watch videos teaching you? I can have trouble visualizing directions in 3D so I will probably have to do a little of both regardless but I don’t want to shoot myself in the foot and miss out on early pattern learning.
Does anyone have any recommendations for starting books/websites/videos? I did make an account on Ravelry awhile back but I’m not really sure what I’m doing :P I did try teaching myself once when I was a teenager but I didn’t have much luck. I’m hoping to have better luck (and more patience) this time! And I’m totally also interested in like actual, physical paper books too if people have recommendations. I assume most craft stores have beginner books but I’m also sure mileage probably varies on those…
Thanks in advance for any advice :3 If/when I eventually make something, I will post it! :D

Junk Journaling: Finding ephemera to use
Since we just talked about how to make a junk journal last post, now let’s talk about what you will use to fill it up and make it pretty. Junk journaling is like going on a treasure hunt where every little piece you find can tell a story. You can use almost anything to create your journal. First off, you might want to start with the basics, like old book pages. These can be from old novels,…
