Im not sure if we’ll be killed for defiance or anything, but i think we should create more art at the very least. Art is defiance. Especially in a fascist world.
Art is the weapon!!!

Wednesday, September 20.
Tumblr media
Hello. You will be all too aware that what was for so long referred to as climate change has recently, and necessarily, come to be known as the climate emergency. And that is because that is exactly what this is—but emergencies need not be so paralyzing. Everyone has their part to play, whether your proverbial Jo Average, or those at the summit of politics and activism, the sciences, or indeed, the arts.
For Climate Week NYC, Automattic will be joining forces with artist and activist Ana Teresa Fernández for just that purpose. Today, September 20, we will be hosting a panel discussion in our Noho Space. Also joining us will be Cristina Gnecco (Co-Founder of HOPE Hydration) and Whitney McGuire, Esq. (Director of Sustainability at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum) in exploring how art and innovation can catalyze positive change, inspiring us to take newfound insights into the world and encourage collective action.
The panel will be held against the backdrop of Ana Teresa Fernández’s provocative series, Under Pressure—a multi-disciplinary work comprising video, photography, paintings, and sculpture that engages with questions of responsibility and response in relation to the climate emergency and rising sea levels.
You can tune in to the livestream of the Under Pressure panel discussion on September 20 at 6:45 PM ET, right here on Tumblr.

If y'all want a chance at getting this art piece, it's a part of a raffle for Feras, a 19 year old Palestinian in Gaza trying to fundraise for a water filtration system for his refugee camp/community urgently as they're nearly lethally low on clean water.
Entries are 5 dollars. There's also tons of prints and a few wearable items for sale to also raise proceeds, and more things being added soon (some art from other artists in our city)

Nan Goldin has always been a documentarian. The new film “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed” feels less like a biography than a natural extension of her life’s work, a kind of collaboration between director Laura Poitras and the famed photographer on a cinematic memoir.
The film’s structure forcefully posits multiple parallels between the world Goldin grew up in and the one she fights in today — between AIDS and the opioid crisis, between historical and contemporary neglect of the marginalized, between queer life then and now.

EXAMPLES OF MY WORK BELOW THE CUT
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: two fully rendered pieces. The first is a drawing of a nonbinary person crouching, holding a gun in one hand and a knife in its other, living metal hand. It has a suspicious expression on its face, and the background is made of drawings of writhing tentacles. The second is a spread of various poses of a south east asian trans man. He is wearing a long wrap skirt, a sports bra, and has bandages over his eyes. There are drawings of beetle-themed daggers and axes, and drawings of orange gems and a stag beetle, over the abstract patterned background. /End ID]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two colored sketches. The first is an alarm-clock themed robot with a metal bell-shaped skirt. It is colored in warm yellow tones using broad strokes of dot matrix brushes. The second is a sketch of a woman from the chest up, staring at the camera. She has pointed ears and her skirt has a mouth running down the center. /End ID]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: two lined pieces. The first is a DnD tiefling in a corset and leather skirt swinging an axe while grinning, in a wide stance. The second is a woman in revealing clothing and roller skates lying down in a "draw me like one of your french girls" pose. The first has only linework and a few blocks of black, and the second uses dot matrix brushes to show the value of the dark mini skirt, roller skates, and crop top. /End ID]

SEPTEMBER POST
Hey punks!!! It's a new month: Good Morning September, Goodnight Authoritarianism!!!!! Kick ass, pull your friends up with you, never forget who you're fighting for!
SEPTEMBER'S CHALLENGE: Art activism! I know September is a difficult and busy time for lots of people with the start of term if you're in any way involved in the academic year, so I thought a little feel good task would be good for all of us. So art activism can be anything. You don't have to come up with a masterpiece - you can doodle a little punk thing, you can work on your punk jacket, look into guerilla art, anything you want, just please share for all of our collective joy. I will also note here that September is Suicide Prevention Month.
August's goal: revolutionary writing! Did you do any? I've done some ill share on a separate place but be brave and toss some my way to share with the community?

It is truly indescribable how many hands and human generations that textile arts has impacted. I guess I shouldn't be surprised at tumblr, but there is nothing here about the project 25 Million stitches. One stitch represents one refugee. If you are reading this right now, please go look it up. It is an art activism project started by Jennifer Kim Sohn, over 37 countries worldwide participated. Each stitch represents a person misplaced due to conflict or natural disaster. This project was started in 2019, and is still ongoing. According to google in the year 2024 there are over 43.4 million refugees worldwide, or 63.3 million people displaced internally. I had the privilege of viewing a travelling exhibit of 24 million stitches. It was humbling to walk through, words can not describe how vast the textiles are, floor to ceiling, you feel small. That much fabric weighing on you from every side gives the gallery a muted feeling. Artists from all over the world participated, from elementary children to masters of the craft. The panels were all unique, some depicted scenery, people, places, animals. Others were simple messages. Some were panels embroidered with intricate overlapping designs, a contemplation of how many lives misplaced. The atmosphere was like a cathedral, quiet and contemplative, so that the textiles, and the artists could speak for themselves. Although the world can seem so big and overwhelming at times, the messages shared here were overwhelmingly of hope.
