Day 20
So much like when he and Zia Claudia fully fledged, Malik was hit with a surprise as Shay fully fledged as an assassin, Malik was titled a master assassin given his own special robes. They were of the finest and strongest materials known to the local Italian robe maker, but light in weight and lacking in the same visual flair that Ezio had. It was an homage to his Lavant Roots. Even down to the chest belt which held his sword, which has surprisingly been his namesakes personal sword.
Malik, Claudia, Ezio, Clay, Shay, Haytham, Machiavelli, Barthomule, and many others knew that the time was soon. Lucruza Borgia had lost power with her brother crazed for power and their father poisoned, dying shortly after having spoken to Malik who stayed with him despite the pain and their opposite ideals. The dying pope had even asked
"Why not leave me? Why show kindness to the man who had your grandfather killed?"
"Because even the most vile people shouldn't be left to face death alone."
Death, speaking of the lonely figure, watched quietly before approaching. He hardly ever made his presence known to the living but this loving care taker of the dead only nodded to Malik and said,
"I have seen too many people and animals die alone over the years. To see a human care enough, warms this sad heart. Perhaps I shall see you soon Malik."
"That is if it will stick next time. Didn't the first time."
There was a smile from that lifeless skull who nodded and took the Borgia leader to his rest. And Malik was left wondering what he just saw.

Edgin and the Dragonfly
*Spoilers ahead for DnD: Honor Among Thieves*
I have a lot of love for subtle, well executed storytelling like the blue dragonfly that shows up throughout Edgin’s arc. The editing in that death/resurrection scene really sells the emotion beyond the literal content of the scene while placing trust in its audience to make the connection. I appreciate the symbolic meaning behind the dragonfly, but my little gremlin brain can’t help but take it one step further and wonder about its literal presence within the world of the movie. Even if it is not meant to be the same individual insect, the timings of the blue dragonfly’s appearances seem too perfect to be a random (e.g. dancing on the flames of Zia’s funeral pyre, landing on Edgin’s forearm after Holga passes). It’s almost as if it is following Ed around.
On the way to the Orifice, Xenk offers Ed some wisdom on the subject of resurrection: “I’d only ask that you consider that this plane we call ‘life’ is but one of many. To drag your lady love back to her old life is to deprive her of her new one.” This is a great character moment that also delivers an important piece of worldbuilding: when people leave the material plane through death, they are reincarnated or otherwise continue their existence on a different plane. You may see where I’m going with this.
Enter the Zia-Dragonfly extraplanar visitor hypothesis. Yes, the name could use some work. It is already widely accepted that the dragonfly is a visual representation of Zia living on in Ed’s memories. In addition to this reading, I propose that the dragonfly may be a subtle physical manifestation of Zia’s extraplanar influence within the world of the story. Even if she cannot physically return to the material plane, something about her new existence may allow her to visit or influence it in a small way. If true, then the recurring appearance of the blue dragonfly has sentient intention behind it, with Zia selecting this form for her messenger to evoke a specific memory in Ed and communicate its associated life lesson at key moments. This would provide a diegetic explanation for why the dragonfly appears when and where it does while offering Zia’s character more agency in the narrative in a way that feels appropriately subtle, yet satisfying.
Anyway, if you want to go all the way with this hypothesis and say that Zia sent the blue dragonfly back in time so that she and Edgin would have that interaction to prepare him for her death and his whole emotional journey thereafter, then I support you.

Strelitzia kick! Or Zia for short. Felt like re-drawing her after a bit, though wrt my blog, this is a first bit of art posted of her. Basically, she's an Ancient One (one of two total/modern-day Psion precursors) that survived planetary disaster. She has mega shapeshifting abilities and monster strength. Her hair and tail are ever-changing, kinda goopy like bubblegum or slime, as a kind of visual reference to her powers.

Quantum entanglement of photons captured in real-time
Biphoton states in high dimensions are attractive sources for quantum applications, including quantum imaging and high-dimensional communications. When projective measurement methodologies are used, it is typically time-consuming and impractical to completely characterize these states; however, recent developments in coincident imaging technologies enable this by parallelizing many measurements.
In a new study, scientists from the University of Ottawa, in collaboration with Danilo Zia and Fabio Sciarrino from the Sapienza University of Rome, have introduced biphoton digital holography. The technology demonstrates a fast and efficient approach to reconstructing the full quantum state of entangled particles.
Using this technique, scientists visualized the wave function of two entangled photons in real-time.
A fundamental concept in quantum physics, the wave function thoroughly comprehends a particle’s quantum state. It enables quantum scientists to predict the probable outcomes of various measurements on a quantum entity, e.g., position, velocity, etc.
This predictive capacity is invaluable in the quickly developing field of quantum technology, where knowing a quantum state that is formed or input into a quantum computer will allow us to test the computer itself. Additionally, the quantum states used in quantum computing are very complicated and comprise numerous entities that could display potent non-local correlations (entanglement). ...

Stuff I'm Looking Forward To in March
Wow, somehow it's already month 3 of 2024. In addition to Daylight Savings Time (March 10 - Spring ahead), Ramadan (March 10-April 9), St. Patrick's Day (March 17), first day of Spring (March 19), Palm Sunday (March 24), Holi (March 25), Good Friday (March 29), and Easter (March 31) here is what's on my radar this month:
Movies:
Dune: Part Two
Denis Villeneuve has become one of the great visual stylists of recent years thanks to films like Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. I named his film Dune Part One, one of my Best Movies of 2021. How good Part One really was depends on Part Two, which drops 3/1.
Knox Goes Away
Michael Keaton has always been a tremendous actor and now he's back in the director's chair for the second time with a starring role about a contract killer who has a form of dementia and he attempts to connect with his estranged son. Oh and Al Pacino co-stars! Opens 3/15.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
A Ghostbusters sequel is a tall order. Jason Reitman's 2021 sequel Ghostbusters Afterlife actually had its moments and it had a lot to say about living up to a legacy, in the film it's the grandchildren of Egon, but it could also be Jason Reitman about the fear and honor of continuing a film series that his dad Ivan began. The new sequel is directed by Gil Kenan, who co-wrote this with Jason. The fact that original Ghostbuster cast members are back gives me hope. Sequel drops 3/22.
Music:
Sheer Mag Playing Favorites
I was lucky enough to see Philly rockers Sheer Mag at House of Blues in May 2022. After two solid albums, they are finally back with their third, dropping on 3/1. (Review to come)
Liam Gallagher & John Squire Liam Gallagher John Squire
Former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher's solo career has been a mixed back, but his album As You Were was one of my Best Albums of the 2010s. As shown in the 2019 documentary Liam Gallagher: As It Was, he doesn't need to play music for money or fame, he has plenty. He plays because he loves music. Now he's doing a new album with John Squire, former guitarist for The Stone Roses. Sounds like a serious meeting of musical minds! Album drops 3/1.
The Black Crowes Happiness Bastards
The first new studio album from The Black Crowes since 2009 is cause for celebration. After a bitter break-up in 2015, the brothers Chris and Rich Robinson announced they were reuniting in 2019. In early 2020, I caught an acoustic live show from Brothers of a Feather (my last concert before the pandemic lockdowns) and since that show, The Black Crowes have had some reunion tours (NOTE: by reunion - I mean Chris and Rich, not the original lineup). They've released some anniversary albums, but this marks the group's first studio album in 15 years. Looking forward to it when it drops on 3/15.
The Dandy Warhols Rockmaker
I've always loved Portlandia's The Dandy Warhols. Through this blog, I've had the pleasure of interviewing lead Dandy Courtney Taylor-Taylor and keyboardist / bassist Zia McCabe, the band's 2019 Boston concert, and their excellent 2019 album Why You So Crazy. Now the band is back with a new album dropping on 3/15! (Review to come)
Film Festivals:
Boston Underground Film Festival
Boston's fun genre film festival for horror, fantasy and bizarre is back. I've had the pleasure of covering this fest from 2016 to 2019 and returning last year. The fest returns to The Brattle Theatre (Cambridge, MA) from 3/20 to 3/24!
Conventions:
Northeast Comic Con
I've had a blast covering the Northeast Comic Con for years now (read my coverage here) and the Spring 2024 edition returns with guests like Kevin Chapman (who I worked with on Monument Ave), a Growing Pains reunion of Tracey Gold, Jeremy Miller and Julie McCullough, The Go-Go's drummer Gina Schock and more! Convention is at the Boxborough Regency (Boxborough, MA) from 3/8-3/10. (Coverage to come).
Awards Season:
The awards season for the best of 2023 continues on with the Razzie Awards, actually the Worst of 2023 (3/9) and the Academy Awards (3/10).
In a Category all its own...

The Significant of Graduation and Why Jewelry is a Great Gift Idea
Graduation Gift: Jewelry is the Best Way to Mark One of the Most Important Moments in Life
Across culture we present jewelry as a gift to symbolize an important moment in life. Think of engagement ring or a bracelet for newborn. Graduation is for sure a significant moment deserves celebration, there is simply no better gift than jewelry. Read on to see our curated guided to graduation jewelry and the design concept behind, making each item on our list an especially meaningful gift.
majadejewelrydesign.etsy.com
A Memorabilia for Academic Achievement
Knowledge is the path to freedom. That is why graduation is one of the most important benchmarks in life signifying an important achievement. No matter high school graduation, college degree or post university, each academic achievement is no small feat. A gift is well deserved for recognition, and jewelry makes the best graduation gift.
To celebrate this special accomplishment you need a unique piece of jewelry, not the run-off-the-mill product. Jewelry marks an important moment in life, a transcendental design is critical because it will be pristine overtime, not just good for a season or two. The best graduation jewelry is classy in style and uniquely design which sounds paradoxical, but critical to achieve something interesting and full of passion.
Brilliance of the Faceted Cut Gemstone
From our studio we selected these works best suit for gradational gift. We divided our selection into two categories; The Faceted gemstones and the Spherical gemstones.
By faceted stone we meant gemstones that are cut in the classical “diamond shape”. Rounded front and pointy back with angular cut all over, an average faceted stone has 58 side, light will bounce off and reflect in these facets resulting the brilliancy we love. Faceted cut is the predominant style to polish gemstones in the market and easy to understand why.
For the faceted style we have selected these pieces in different price range. First off we introduce ARORA. A dainty and easy to wear necklace inspired by the concept of fate and karma. The meaning behind the necklace makes it an especially meaningful as a reminder of life. With a gemstone set at the center, visually the metal extended as a 3-dimensional interpretation of the infinity sign. A classy and also fun design to wear.
Then we have SCROPIO, a cute minimalist necklace inspired by the stinger of scorpion. Think of this as a protection amulet, because the stinger is the greatest weapon of the Arachnida. Yet the design is cute and classy for all occasions. This size also makes a great choice as layering necklace.
ZIA is good luxury choice. A design inspired by the images of the galaxy, like satellite stars surrounding the planet. An integrated design with the bale transforms into a diamond halo around the center stone, elaborate and yet timeless.
Another luxury offer is the CALLA necklace. Design in the shape of a calla lily: the symbol for rebirth, purity and perseverance. An especially meaningful gift for the graduated as they are ready to start a new life. Symbols aside this is an everyday piece great for all occasions.
Soft and Tender Sheen of Spherical Cut Gemstone
As oppose to faceted cut gemstones, beaded or spherical cut gemstones are rarer in the market. The reason is partially due the difficulty of designing with a 3-dimensional bead. In comparison faceted stones have a front and back, meaning that gemstones cut to this fashion will have a place to “sit” and then secure by prong. On the other hand, a spherical cut gemstone is rounded all over with all angles exposes 360, and thus more thoughts and consideration need to be in place.
For those who appreciate spherical or bead cut gemstones are very special; a serenity and subtle beauty differ from faceted cut. Gemstones are in a more natural state, an advantage for stones with natural patterns. I myself like to see it this way: Faceted stone stun us with its brilliance; and spherical stones are loved for their gentle sheen.
Like we previously mentioned, the style for a graduation give should be transcend overtime, because it is a remember of such accomplishment, need to make the owner proud now and for the years to come. The following design are selected with such ethos:
Since the time of inception our SATURN necklace is one of our best sellers. In the form of planet Saturn this cute and dainty design is great for everyday. Showcasing the beauty of gemstone with its minimalist structure.
MAIA is the sister design to SATURN. Also inspired by the galaxy, the spherical cut gemstone represents celestial planet and the stars bathing in the cosmos. Both pieces have the same design language yet very different in style, SATURN necklace is more of a choker look great for layering; while MAIA is more substantial a drop pendant style for a prominent look.
Another popular option is JANNI, an oval shape pendant again with the similar design flare to MAIA and SATURN, a choice for those who prefer oval rather than drop style.
And we have DINI, more elaborate than the previous mentioned design is this vortex inspired necklace. Like the Ying-Yang symbol two precious gold wave inspired shape holds the spherical gem tight. An all-intergraded design, very clean and minimalistic make it wearable for all occasions.
After reading this article, did you have a fresh idea on graduation gift of your love one? We hope you find this reading useful. No matter you decided to celebrate with present or no present, the most important gesture is to be there in person at the graduation ceremony and enjoy!

Yeah, I know many people have talked about this already but I need to say it as well before I explode.
I love visually seeing how the campers are all age accurately cast. In the books, it didn't hit me as hard because it was something I read when I myself was around 12. Even upon rereading I just go back to my 12-year-old body and the age is just this textual evidence that I KNOW exists but it doesn't truly impact me as much as it really should.
With this still, though, it's clearly visible how young all of them are. And it's scary. It's just the teaser trailer and it's already scary to think just how tiny and innocent they are, and how many hardships they have to go through at such a tender age.
But the scariest part about the scary part?

Bilateral Aspergillosis endogenous endophthalmitis in post COVID-19 recovered patient; A clinical case report by Zahra Zia, MD in Journal of
Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) Ocular manifestations have a thousand faces and yet each ocular presentation has a unique course, treatment and prognosis. We present a rare case of post-COVID-19 bilateral Aspergillosis endogenous endophthalmitis (EE) with aggressive manifestation at first but an appropriate treatment response. A 54-year-old man presented with bilateral decreased vision four weeks after post-COVID-19 hospitalization. Initially, he was diagnosed with noninfectious uveitis and treated with topical and systemic prednisolone for one week. Subsequently, he was treated with systemic voriconazole after a positive vitreous sample polymerase chain reaction (PCR) result for Aspergillus fumigatus. This case demonstrated the effectiveness of systemic antifungal treatment without surgical intervention in post-COVID-19 bilateral Aspergillosis EE.
Keywords: Aspergillus fumigatus, COVID-19, Fungal endogenous endophthalmitis
Introduction
The coronavirus pandemic has recently challenged the medical system. Various ocular manifestations of coronavirus infection have been reported.[1] One of the disastrous ocular manifestations detected in these patients is endophthalmitis.[2] There have been previous case series of patients with COVID-19 pneumonia having bacterial endogenous endophthalmitis (EE) originating from the throat, kidneys, and teeth as a source of infection, and even the COVID-19 virus had been isolated from the vitreous sample.[3] Regarding fungal EE, Candida species are reported as the most common pathogen, although there are two reports with a specific diagnosis of Aspergillus.[4,5] The present case report on bilateral Aspergillosis EE is novel in disease course and recovery.
Case report presentation
A 54-year-old man presented with both eyes blurred vision two days before visiting an ophthalmologist. He had a history of COVID-19-related pneumonia with approximately 30% lung involvement, confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), which led to eight days of hospitalization. He received intravenous dexamethasone (8 mg/day) and Ceftriaxone 1gr every 12 hours for seven days during admission. There was no airway intubation or intensive care unit (ICU) admission. The patient had a history of first dose COVID-vaccination with COVIran Barekat (Barkat Pharmaceutical Group) vaccine [6] three weeks before hospitalization. He could not receive the next dose of his vaccine due to subsequent health problems. He did not have any other previous systemic disease.
His ocular symptoms developed four weeks after post-COVID-19 hospitalization. At presentation, the Snellen best-corrected distance visual acuity (BCVA) of the right and left eyes was 20/200 and finger counts (FC) 4 m, respectively. He was diagnosed with noninfectious uveitis by his primary ophthalmologist and received systemic prednisolone (25mgr /day) with topical steroids and cycloplegic drops. Due to a lack of recovery, he was referred to our clinic after one week. On examination, the BCVA of the right and left eyes were CF 6m and CF 1 m, respectively. Anterior segment slit lamp exam was unremarkable; however, vitreous cell (+2 in both eyes) was detected. Fundoscopy in the right eye showed extensive confluent yellowish intraretinal and subretinal collections in the inferior arcade involving the macula. In the left eye, the same lesion with surrounding sub-retinal cream-coloured fluid was seen in the post pole, which involved the fovea [Figure 1A]. Lesions appeared to expand in size [Figure 1B] five days later. Both eyes' macular optical coherence tomography (OCT) revealed intraretinal and subretinal hyper-reflective materials with mild intraretinal and subretinal fluid (SRF), which disrupted macular structure [Figure 2A-B]. Fundus fluorescein angiography of the right eye [Figure 3A] and left eye [Figure 3B] displayed early hyper fluorescence due to vascular leakage around the lesions.
Clinically suspicious of EE, systemic workup was performed, including obtaining blood and urine culture, vasculitis laboratory tests, purified protein derivative (PPD) skin test, trans-esophageal echocardiography, and repeating spiral chest CT, and no systemic source of infection was detected. Because of highly suspicious fungal chorioretinitis, vitreous sampling for smear, culture and PCR for herpes viruses, Mycobacterium, Candida, and Aspergillus species was obtained, then oral voriconazole (200 mg/bid) and systemic antibiotic (ciprofloxacin 500mgr/bid) was started. Although the culture from vitreous aspiration failed to yield any organism, Real-time PCR analysis detected the Aspergillus Fumigatus while negative for Candida, HSV-1, HSV-2, CMV, VZV, and Mycobacterium genome. By diagnosis of confirmed Aspergillus EE, oral voriconazole was continued. After three weeks, vitreous inflammation, the subretinal lesions' size, and SRF reduced significantly. The patient's vision gradually enhanced in both eyes. After eight weeks, in the follow-up, BCVA was 20/32 in the right and 20/40 in the left eye. Fundus photography and OCT showed improved lesions [figure 4A-B]. Informed consent was obtained from the patient to report this case.
Discussion
The presented case is the first bilateral confirmed Aspergillus EE in a COVID-19-recovered patient who responded to the antifungal treatment without surgical intervention. There are various treatment protocols for Aspergillus EE, and systemic voriconazole is a critical drug.[7] It is suggested to begin systemic antifungal drugs in clinically presumed cases until the results of PCR or vitreous aspiration culture reveal the definitive diagnosis.[8] Surgical procedures such as multiple intravitreal injections of antifungal drugs and pars plana vitrectomy with or without silicone injection have been reported as valuable ways to manage fungal EE. [2,3]
it is necessary to consider the positive history of COVID-19 recent infection, corticosteroid use and the existence of posterior pole necrotizing chorioretinal lesion for considering the clinical suspicion of fungal EE. Most of the Aspergillus EE patients are initially misdiagnosed as noninfectious uveitis by their primary ophthalmologists and treated Inadvertent with local or systemic steroids or immunomodulators. This scenario was happening for our patient and recently reported cases.[4,5] Also, all recent reports regarding post-COVID-19 recovery Fungal EE indicate no systemic focus of infection and negative blood and urine culture in these patients; therefore, misdiagnosis of noninfectious uveitis is expected.[3,5] A majority of vitrectomies in all fungal species EE had initial negative tap because the vitreous involvement with filamentous fungi is rare, and initial positive smear is uncommon.[9] Sowmya p et al. showed that the PCR reported for fungal genomes verified a 100% microbial detection rate and can be regarded as a gold standard.[10]
The following chart briefly reviews the recent report of the five patients with confirmed Aspergillus-associated EE in COVID-19-related pneumonia and their characteristic retinal signs. [Table 1] Once comparing clinical details and characteristics of the present case with previous reports, there are some crucial differences. This patient only received systemic voriconazole and did not require a pars plana vitrectomy or intravitreal antifungal injection for treatment; However, baseline BCVA was better than in other cases; therefore, the poor presenting vision may be related to poor visual outcome.[11] The visual outcome and healing process were significantly restored compared to other previous fungal EE cases.[4,5] The lower percentage of lung involvement and milder Covid-19 disease course compared to the previous case reports may play the role in this difference. In this case, since the vaccine course was not completed, the effect of a single dose could not be accurately determined.
Conclusion
The purpose of presenting this case is to draw attention to considering fungal pathogens cause EE in patients following COVID-19. In addition to demonstrating differences in the course of illness, progression, and even treatment compared to previously reported cases. This article highlights the need for an in-depth examination of the fundus of patients who have ocular symptoms after COVID-19 and takes fungal pathogens into account.
