Here me out
Disney Hercules but replace Hercules with Dionysus
Meg with Ariadne
And the guy who abandoned Meg with Theseus
Sorry I go on a bit of a ramble in this next part lol
AT LEAST THE STORY WOULD SORTA MAKE MORE SENSE WITH THOSE CHARACTERS
Theseus gets trapped in the underworld and ariadne makes a deal with Hades to let him go ONLY FOR THESEUS TO LEAVE HER TO MARRY HER SISTER
And Meg and ariadne are sooo similar, Like risking everything to save the man you love only to have him abandon you for another woman
And that version of Hercules also reminds me of Dionysus in a way with him having to prove he's worthy to make it back to his rightful place on olympus, and him not feeling like he belongs in the place he is only to go on a journey of discovery
Also “Won't say I'm in love” is such an ariadne song
Especially the lyrics "I thought my heart had learned its lesson It feels so good when ya start out My head is screaming "get a grip, girl!" "Unless you're dying to cry your heart out!"
And replace Pegasus with a leopard

Ariadne and Dionysus please???
Tumblr media
My Ariadne had a drastic change in appearance in order to have a more Minoan vibe (this is also the reason for having her breasts exposed. It's not sexual). She's from the Mycenaean era, but since she's Cretan, I wanted to reference that with Minoan fashion.
My Dionysus also had a change, which was his physical appearance. I was displeased because the idea of a Dionysus who is young, muscular, beardless, and quite masculine (the old design) just doesn't feel like Dionysus. He was usually portrayed as either an older and masculine man with a beard or a younger man with no beard and somewhat effeminate, but not a masculine, young man with no beard as far as I know (as you can see, I choose the no beard version). So these were the design changes, if you saw the previous drawings (no longer available on my profile because they're private). And Dionysus is in Cretan women's dress here in reference to myths related to him that include crossdressing.

"The gods do not know love, because they cannot imagine an end to anything they enjoy. Their passions do not burn brightly as a mortal's passions do, because they can have whatever they desire for the rest of eternity. How could they cherish or treasure anything? Nothing to them is more than a passing amusement, and when they have done with it, there will be another. " - Jennifer Saint, Ariadne

The contrast between Perseus and Dionysus is interesting because while they’re both sons of Zeus from mortal mothers, Perseus is still firmly a mortal and has a mortal mindset, while Dionysus fully acts like a god. It makes Perseus being the victor in their confrontation, or at least driving him to a standstill, all the more impressive.
Yet ppl call him a coward for killing Medusa while she’s sleeping lol when he’s literally just working smarter not harder.
I imagine when Perseus “killed” Dionysus it was like this:

And the only reason Dionysus didn’t kill Perseus is bc Hermes stepped in and told them to come to an agreement (also Ariadne is resurrected).

Dionysus reverently took Ariadne's hand as if holding a glass branch adorned with jade leaves. His eyes of dark purple stared deeply into the Cretan princess' black, shimmering irises, with unveiled sincerity from the bottom of his heart.
“I know it's hard to love me sometimes,” Dionysus said softly, each word spoken slowly as if he wanted Ariadne to take all in, “Or even, it was never easy for you. It was never easy for humans and gods to be in harmony for long, because they are two different races, like stars and flowers. And the myths always repeat these with tragic love stories.”
Saying this, he gently squeezed her hands, and a rare earnestness clearly showing on his handsome face.
“But,” Dionysus beseeched, “I want to understand you in a way no one else can, and I hope you can understand me. However long it takes, even an eternity, I will accept.”
His promises, filled with true love, made Ariadne's heart tremble. She opened her mouth to reply, but the God of Wine and Ecstasy gently closed his eyes and brought her hands to kiss them. His warm breath seaped through the princess' delicate fingers, trembling her to her soul.
“So, my dear Ariadne,” the moment Dionysus opened his eyes again, Ariadne could see forever in his gaze, “Will you be my brightest star and shine with me among the sky?”
Prompt #1127
"I know it's hard to love me sometimes."

I’ve noticed that there seems to be an unfortunately small amount of people talking about my badass queen Ariadne. Please tell me I’m not the only one who cannot wait to see her tell Poseidon to go fuck himself every time he tries to tell her how to run Krete
FUCK THE GODS!
✨except of course for her godly boytoy Dionysus✨

The one mark against Perseus is him killing Ariadne in some versions but considering how little that makes sense timeline-wise it’s more than easy enough to ignore lol
I mean… she was on Dionysus’s side while he was invading Argos, it’s kinda justified I think.

30 Days of Devotion Challenge
Tumblr media
Day Two: How did you first become aware of this deity?
I was starting a local organization and was looking for a name, I came across the name Ariadne. It was just a sick name so we used it.
I had previously been thinking maybe Dionysos was reaching out but he was not. I then just had this feeling that I couldn’t escape that someone was waiting for me to find them. I read a few times if she was a Greek deity and got inconclusive answers. I previously had exclusively worshiped and worked within the Irish pantheon, and I knew that the Greek divine didn’t want my offerings. (Later realizing that was because she is more than just Greek.)
I heard her myth fully eventually and her heartbreak and then love drew me in. I read her stories more and more and then connected so well I just knew we were supposed to work together.
It all sort of just clicked? Slowly I tipped my toes in and here we are now :)

Dionysus and Ariadne for @margaretkart! She's wearing the famous Minoan priestess outfit with belt, apron and flounces, with a pose inspired by classic romance comic artist Nell Brinkley.
