Ariadne and Dionysus please???
Tumblr media
My Ariadne had a drastic change in appearance in order to have a more Minoan vibe (this is also the reason for having her breasts exposed. It's not sexual). She's from the Mycenaean era, but since she's Cretan, I wanted to reference that with Minoan fashion.
My Dionysus also had a change, which was his physical appearance. I was displeased because the idea of a Dionysus who is young, muscular, beardless, and quite masculine (the old design) just doesn't feel like Dionysus. He was usually portrayed as either an older and masculine man with a beard or a younger man with no beard and somewhat effeminate, but not a masculine, young man with no beard as far as I know (as you can see, I choose the no beard version). So these were the design changes, if you saw the previous drawings (no longer available on my profile because they're private). And Dionysus is in Cretan women's dress here in reference to myths related to him that include crossdressing.

"The gods do not know love, because they cannot imagine an end to anything they enjoy. Their passions do not burn brightly as a mortal's passions do, because they can have whatever they desire for the rest of eternity. How could they cherish or treasure anything? Nothing to them is more than a passing amusement, and when they have done with it, there will be another. " - Jennifer Saint, Ariadne

The contrast between Perseus and Dionysus is interesting because while they’re both sons of Zeus from mortal mothers, Perseus is still firmly a mortal and has a mortal mindset, while Dionysus fully acts like a god. It makes Perseus being the victor in their confrontation, or at least driving him to a standstill, all the more impressive.
Yet ppl call him a coward for killing Medusa while she’s sleeping lol when he’s literally just working smarter not harder.
I imagine when Perseus “killed” Dionysus it was like this:

And the only reason Dionysus didn’t kill Perseus is bc Hermes stepped in and told them to come to an agreement (also Ariadne is resurrected).

I’ve noticed that there seems to be an unfortunately small amount of people talking about my badass queen Ariadne. Please tell me I’m not the only one who cannot wait to see her tell Poseidon to go fuck himself every time he tries to tell her how to run Krete
FUCK THE GODS!
✨except of course for her godly boytoy Dionysus✨

Dionysus and Ariadne for @margaretkart! She's wearing the famous Minoan priestess outfit with belt, apron and flounces, with a pose inspired by classic romance comic artist Nell Brinkley.

As You may know, i'm a BIG fan of Ariadne and Dionysus as a couple, and FINALLY IN HADES 2 WE HAVE THIS PICTURE OF HER:
SHE IS FRIKING BEAUTIFULL
Tumblr media
And some people think that for the vague dialogues of Dio in Hades 1 they MIGHT not be a couple in the Game, but i don't believe this for 1- most of the relationships that dosen't include incest are the same in the game and Mythology, 2- this dialogue of Dio
Tumblr media
3- when Theseus use the boons of Dionysus THEY HURT HIM TOO, kinda personal.
And then there's this little easter egg(?) if You could call it that in Ariadne's desing, that makes me CRAZY.
You see, in the myths, when Dionysus marries Ariadne, as a weeding gift, he gives her a TIARA and even makes the same tiara a constelation.
And then i look up in the desing of Ariadne, AND THOSE BLACK SPOTS AND THINK "OH MAN, THOSE THINGS ARE THE TIARA".
Idk, just want them to be a thing, i think they're neat.

Ariadne: I know your intention is to dress like a slutty man but wow you’re really pulling it off
Dionysus: Darling you know I never disappoint

The one mark against Perseus is him killing Ariadne in some versions but considering how little that makes sense timeline-wise it’s more than easy enough to ignore lol
I mean… she was on Dionysus’s side while he was invading Argos, it’s kinda justified I think.

Day Two: How did you first become aware of this deity?
I was starting a local organization and was looking for a name, I came across the name Ariadne. It was just a sick name so we used it.
I had previously been thinking maybe Dionysos was reaching out but he was not. I then just had this feeling that I couldn’t escape that someone was waiting for me to find them. I read a few times if she was a Greek deity and got inconclusive answers. I previously had exclusively worshiped and worked within the Irish pantheon, and I knew that the Greek divine didn’t want my offerings. (Later realizing that was because she is more than just Greek.)
I heard her myth fully eventually and her heartbreak and then love drew me in. I read her stories more and more and then connected so well I just knew we were supposed to work together.
It all sort of just clicked? Slowly I tipped my toes in and here we are now :)
