Regressor Anxiety’s Bedtime Headcanons

Suggested by Anon

Anxiety takes a LOT of naps, which sometimes means bedtime is a struggle; and being told she HAS to go to bed stresses her out. The other emotions have worked out a pretty good system to make her WANT to go to bed.

Joy does her very best to properly tire her out half an hour before bedtime.

Anger gives Anxiety her last snack of the day, and he usually cuts whatever it is into fun shapes.

Sadness helps with the pre-bed routine: brushing her teeth and washing her face.

Disgust brushes her hair and puts it in a braid so it won’t get tangled while she’s asleep.

Fear reads Anxiety a picture book - or five. He loves them as much as she does, so sometimes the others have to stop him.

Ennui has a playlist of music that helps calm Anxiety down.

Envy bunks with her if she’s feeling upset or lonely.

If she dozes off in the console room, Embarrassment will carry her to her bed.

Anxiety has a special cot just for when she’s regressed, with an orange fleecy blanket and fairy lights and tons of stuffed animals. Even when she’s not tired, she likes hanging out there.

Hello, we are the Turtle System! (@theturtlesystem on Simply Plural.) Collectively, we are 17 years old, a queer guy, and use he/him. We speak Korean, English, and French (with varying proficiencies)! In general, our littles understand Korean best while with our older alters, some are monolingual while others are trilingual.

We are a diagnosed DID system based in the United States (please save us). We are also autistic and highly appreciate tone indicators.

We are not opposed to any questions about our alters! We welcome them, as long as they do not carry malicious intent!

Considering how we’re in a relatively quiet corner of the Internet (and using tags specifically for that), it’s unlikely that anything too crazy will happen. I would be thoroughly surprised if a Trump supporter walked into my askbox, for instance.

Interests

Note: These interests may not apply to all alters! This is just a generalization of the system.

Politics, advocacy, social justice — that’s something we bring up often!

History — ties into the former interest. We also like collecting facts about various civilizations and their cultures.

Marvel — we especially love the Avengers and Daredevil! We also enjoy the X-Men, although we are less informed about them. This interest centers around the personalities, backstories, and interactions of characters.

Tolkien — The Hobbit, LOTR, The Silmarillion, etc! Everything Middle Earth/Arda-related makes us super happy. This interest is equal in focus on characters and setting.

Playing video games — Stardew Valley, Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Minecraft, Tomodachi Life, Marvel Rivals, etc. We’re a lot more interested in the gameplay aspect than the story though.

Star Wars — this interest is more setting-focused. Anything with large-scale worldbuilding is so satisfying.

Linguistics — we like studying languages and creating ones of our own!

Science — perfect for collecting eclectic facts that explain situations and phenomena of various types.

Art — 2-D illustration is so fun! Our host intends to pursue a career in it. Different alters have different art styles. We may or may not have an art-exclusive account.

Writing — narrative writing, worldbuilding, essays/dissertations; several alters find this fun.

👥✩°｡ ⋆ Alters

Our system has groups, subsystems, and sidesystems. Here’s the difference between the two (for us):

A group is a term used to, as the name says, “group” alters who have the same type of role together. These alters still have dissociative barriers between them and are entirely distinct from one another.

A subsystem is a set of alters that are more closely linked (variants of each other, etc.) and therefore have lower dissociative barriers. The alters in a subsystem are capable of fusing or separating.

A sidesystem is a set of alters separated from the rest of the system with larger dissociative barriers. They feel the most like entirely separate people, almost as if they do not belong in the collective (nor originate from there).

Regressor Emotions Headcanons (Inside Out 2)

@imjustaspie and Anon suggested regressor Anxiety headcanons, but I just could’ve leave the others out. XD Bonus Nostalgia!

Anxiety

She is incredibly nervous about regressing for the first time. Relaxing is hard enough for her; being emotionally vulnerable is terrifying. But, with the others’ help, she eventually starts regressing.

She is a crier. Any little mistake starts the sad tears, and the slightest kindness makes her weepy.

She is super snuggly, cuddling up to everyone. She needs all the hugs.

Her regular life involves a lot of long nights, so when she’s regressed she’s a frequent napper.

She LOVES visiting Imagination Land when she’s regressed. She runs wild in the pillow fort and blows giant soap bubbles and completely forgets her fears.

Embarrassment 

He’s the only purely involuntary regressor out of the Headquarter’s crew. He usually slips after he’s done something he feels is super wrong.

He needs a lot of patient reassurance to convince him that his mistakes are fixable and that he’s not bad for messing up once in a while.

His favorite activity is coloring. He loves coloring sheets and always runs to show his completed pictures to Sadness.

He often forgets how big he is and asks to be picked up. The other emotions make him a big hammock swing so he can feel like he’s being held.

He’s a pacifier guy, and almost always has one in his mouth. Even when he’s not actually regressed he finds them soothing.

Ennui

She’s obviously a tech kid, constantly playing games on her phone.

She can be very whiny when she doesn’t want to do something. “That’s boring! YOU’RE boring!”

(But she always does the thing anyway, because she’s little and the others are The Boss.)

She LOVES action movies and regresses even deeper while she’s watching them.

All her pleases and thank yous are in French, and she says them sparingly. You know she’s really grateful when she mumbles “Merci”.

Envy

She’s a major hair toucher; she loves to play with (and tug on) hair, both her own and other peoples’.

She loves being carried around and gets all wiggly from excitement.

She frequently borrows one of Embarrassment’s hoodies and runs around, dragging fabric and giggling like crazy.

She loves to play with the others, though she sometimes needs a reminder to not snatch toys.

Everything she sees is cool! Everything is awesome! She wants to experience everything!

Nostalgia

She prefers classic cartoons and movies; things like “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You” and “Fantasia”.

She also loves children’s books - “Matilda”, “Little Lord Fauntleroy”, “The Swiss Family Robinson”, etc.

She’s not a play-pretender, but she loves looking at and collecting toys.

She crafts glasses chains for herself, and changes them out frequently. (They are a necessity, by the way - she will lose her glasses in seconds without a chain.)

She likes to watch memories of Riley playing. Even if she doesn’t play along, watching makes her feel smaller.

I have a Tengen agere angst idea

So Tengen has separation anxiety from his wives, his mouse stuffy, and his house in general but one day the hashira’s go to a hot spring hotel! And his wives aren’t there, and his mouse isn’t there. So he ends up scratching his arms and his legs pretty much 24/7 until he bloody crying in the bedroom where Kyojuro finds him! He bandages him up and kisses over top of it, he then takes him to the nearby town to get a new stuffie, and the crew come back to little Tengen red and puffy eyed in Kyojuro’s lap dozing off while still sniffling! And he looks so small compared to him somehow, and he just hides his face in the crook of Kyo’s neck like the baby he deserved to

His mama’s give him so many cuddles and kisses when he gets back

Okay so I relate a little bit too much to Tengen here wasn't expecting to feel exposed

~I think the worst part about going to a hot springs with such bad intrusive thoughts is: One, other people seeing old scars and asking questions because they are far to linniar and far too ‘perfect’ to be made by demons while in battle. Two, the fact that Tengen, despite trying not to, has probably already hurt himself multiple times just on the journey to the hotel.

~So, the one part of the trip that was supposed to be fun, bathing in the hot springs and relaxing, is just filled with anxiety about being undressed and exposing freshly made cuts.

~Also it does not help that his whole things is being flashy so he has no real excuse as to why he wouldn’t want to join unlike say, Giyu or Obanai- and the pillars are like family so he’s just feeling doubly bad for coming up with what must be the worse excuses ever as to why he doesn’t want to join the group.

~(Also off topic, but I think Giyu would have self harm scars as well and he’s just, not having a good time either. Poor baby doesn’t want to be made fun of. He does go into the water, but just sinks into, never to be seen again /lh Him and Muichiro splash around because the mist hashira is like the only person who won’t say anything about his scars-)

~I really enjoy hotsprings/ platonic bathing headcanons I could write so many but I will refrain myself… for now.. really writers block needs to leave me the heck alone I would make this into a full fic faster than you could blink I swear

~But also- Tengen- you idiot- why wouldn’t you bring your stuffie friend with you?! (Also me answering my own question)

~So either anxiety about losing his mouse (which is just me projecting, if I ever loose my stuffed sheep irl I will actually die and never get over it) so his stuffed friend never leaves the sound pillar estate anymore. Or he felt like he was going to be made fun for having it.

~(Which, I feel like Muichiro would 100% bring a stuffed animal of his own, even if it’s like Gyomei’s idea. And Rengoku would have brought a stuffy along just to make Tengen feel better had he been asked. Wait now that would be such a cute idea just all the Hashira with an emotional support stuffie)

~Baby is trying to hide behind his new stuffie with the logic of “I can’t see you- you can’t see me” and the Hashira are nice enough to just talk over the little one and pretend as though they don’t see him for the sound pillar’s sake.

Agere anxiety, my beloved

A bit of a ramble about agere and fanfiction

Sometimes I think about steering away from adding agere into fics that aren’t agere-centric because I feel the need to make my fic as digestible for as many people as possible and agere is something that, unfortunately, a lot of people will pass over purely because it’s there.

I’ve had multiple people comment on one shots that ARE specifically agere-centric telling me that they normally dislike agere fics and wouldn’t bother but that they took a chance and really liked mine. And as nice as I’m sure that intends to be, I am not some unique, one-in-a-million writer. Nothing I do is new to the agere space, particularly when it comes to fanfiction. I will admit that I do cover regressors that can be less represented in these spaces (older regressors, older headspaces, ect) but I am far from the only fic writer that does it.

Agere is JUST as valid and acceptable as a trauma response and coping mechanism as anything else that I’d be willing to put in these kinds of fics, and refusing to include it purely on the basis of “well, people don’t understand it and therefore wouldn’t read it” is clearly a mindset that comes from my own shame and weariness of other people’s reactions. And that isn’t great when my fic could be the thing that educated them on what agere is and how it can benefit someone— the thing that has educated people before.

The long fic that I’m currently working on has a main character that regresses due to trauma and it is something that is blatantly obvious throughout the entire story; but I never actually said that was what was happening. When I finally decided to put a word to it, like, twenty-five chapters in and officially say “yes, he is regressing in these moments”, there were some people saying that the story was good but that this was something they weren’t interested in and that they wouldn’t be reading any longer. Which is fine, anyone can read or drop whatever they want, but it is really upsetting to me because this was THERE the entire time. I just never called it what it was. On the flip side, however, I did have other people who didn’t know much about agere and actually learned something from my portrayal of this character, or even felt represented in a way that they otherwise wouldn’t have been. And, to me, that means so much more than how many hits or kudos I get from shying away from something that deserves to exist outside of the community.

So, every time I think about not having a side mention of agere in my fics, I think about the potential people who could learn something new from me and the way that I could help normalize something that means so much to me in a way that makes sense to the average person. That, alone, makes it so important and absolutely worth doing.

If nobody has told you this, I’m going to say it: It’s okay if your regression is a response to you feeling anxious, depressed, scared, numb, angry, or any other emotions. You don’t have to be happy all the time. You deserve to feel hurt if that’s what you’re feeling. 🩵
