I enjoy being the house with the antique doorbell that's so unusual and fun that delivery people comment on enjoying it. Plus it uses no electricity and may wear out in a century.

Fun fact! While these designs could be executed in filet crochet, they are actually charted for filet lace!

Filet lace is different in that it is essentially darned netting. Traditionally, the lacemaker would make the netting using knots, and then use a needle to weave in and out of the netting squares in order to create the design.

Filet crochet, on the other hand, is, well, crocheted, so it's all loop in loop. It looks similar to the unfamiliar eye, but if you've ever seen filet lace the difference is very obviously--the crochet chains many be able to create the overall pattern, but the texture is more uniform and you don't have the woven details (which you can almost make out in the black and white pics, but not quite). The open areas are also generally much more uniform in filet than in filet crochet
