the fellowship at a hardware store, from someone who works at a hardware store:
sam: is in the nursery!! goes straight to the discount/dying plants and piles his cart full of wilted and sad plants. likes to rescue the houseplants first, has a soft spot for perennials and citrus trees. is a nightmare to check out but is very sweet about it. dirt and leaves everywhere. like, everywhere. they have to sweep after he’s gone. surprisingly strong and hauls big bags of dirt.
frodo: enjoys home improvement!! likes to wander carpeting and organization, hunts for good deals and keeps tabs on the sales weekends. he likes to peruse the shower curtains and closet accessories. likes to refurbish old furniture he finds off the side of the road- currently fixing up an antique dresser to put in the master bedroom.
merry: doorknobs, handles, dresser nobs. he likes to pick out the interesting and antique ones and customize his home with them. he really likes the oddly shaped ones, he has one starfish and one pickle on his nightstand table. likes to joke about touching all the knobs and fiddling with the knockers.
pippin: is lost in the lighting department. he’s staring up at all the pretty lights and hypnotizing fans. likes the remote controlled lights, enjoys messing with the demos. also likes collecting paint chips. (pippins also the kind of person to get really high and shit in the display toilets.) does not buy anything, maybe some beef jerky and skittles at the check outs.
boromir: this man has like 80 projects going on and is remarkably proficient in every conceivable area featured in the store. he’s here so much people think he works here. he kinda does. he’s happy to advise you, lead you to products, and lifts heavy things for little old ladies and swooning maidens. he’s happy to grab the things on the highest shelf as well as carry those bigs bags of dirt out to your care. he is just a naturally pure and helpful soul. <3
aragorn: has lost himself in scrap wood. straight to the lumber yard, straight to the pile of damaged and recycled wood. once a month, he comes and loads up as much as it will fit in a pickup truck. no one knows what he does with it but he keeps coming back. there are several theories around the store. either he’s building a bunker, has a side hustle by reselling it, makes massive fires or he does wood work. alternatively, he’s a homeless man building his own cabin in the woods so he can live away from society. that’s one’s probably the closest.
gandalf: mixes his own paint. he doesn’t work there but somehow he keeps getting back there and making his own custom colors. was known to pull a miracle and turn gray paint back into white. no one knows how he did this. likes to camp out in the seasonal section. enjoys lounging on couches and swings for long periods of time.
gimli: is so excited to walk into the tools section. wants all the toys. likes power tools in a way that’s both funny and scary. really likes chainsaws and leaf blowers, possibly because they pose the biggest threat to legolas. often gets flagged out the door because no one person needs that many tools and he must be up to something. he always beeps out the door because inevitably someone forgot to take off one of the sensors of his many, many tools. he used to be nicer about this but lately has lost patience with always being stopped out the door, and often will make a show of waving his receipt before leaving.
legolas: spends a good amount of time in the garden. i imagine he gets enamored with the fountains and ponds rather quickly, also likes the statues and fun pots. also, wanders through the garden and samples the plants. by samples i mean eat small bites of it, and if he finds the quality satisfactory he will purchase it. this is rarely the case and he often just goes around eating small bites of houseplants.

Secluded 1720 Georgian home in London was further modified in 1750. Terretts Place is in a secluded courtyard and ‘blind alley’, discreetly sequestered behind shops and restaurants. Lit by a once-gas double lantern, it is an enchanting enclave of just 5 dwellings. Originally, it was a standalone house, but in the 19th century, houses were added on both sides, creating a terrace. 4 floors, 5bds, 3ba, £2,850,000 / $3.454M

Marauders x interior designs, reference boards and a long post below with explanations on the style selection and living conditions! (1.6K words)
Sirius
Interior design style: Industrial
Style rationale: cool, dark tones with a stylish mixture of rough materials: bricks, concrete, metals, and a great view. The ambiguity of the manmade hardware meeting all the natural light from the large windows; the grand spaces suitable of hosting a lot of people paired with an arrogant, unwelcoming (scary even) atmosphere. Overall powerful masculine energy with edgy, rebellious vibes. Effortlessly stylish, oozes confidence, creative and commands authority. Not everyone’s cup of tea, only a few can see the appeal and the endless possibilities of this multipurpose factory building, which is capable of way more than originally intended for.
Residence characteristics: Penthouse, 4 bedrooms, 4 other purpose rooms, 2.5 bathrooms, rooftop terrace. Renovated/repurposed old factory building in the city, with a pub/night club downstairs, and the middle part of the building leased as office area. Sirius is the only one who actually lives in the building, which he also owns. (Meaning no neighbours!) The building has a cargo lift, which Sirius uses to park his motorbike on the rooftop garage area. A separated part of the rooftop area is used by the pub/nightclub as a warehouse/storage, the other open-air part of it is used solely by Sirius, that he can access directly from his apartment too.
Remus
Interior design style: Eclectic (unintentional)
Style rationale: cramped with books and various interesting artifacts, second-hand mismatched furniture, light academia aesthetic, overall nerdy hipster energy. Warm earth tones, once vibrant but now faded colour palette. Budget and function over style attitude. Cozy and welcoming vibes (people pleaser much?). Plant enthusiasm.
Residence characteristics: tiny 1 bedroom apartment, 1 bathroom, small French balcony (used as a herb garden). Remus is on a very tight budget, when he managed to buy the flat, he only had a mattress, two makeshift bookshelves and a table with two chairs the previous tenant had left there. He saved up for years to get a nice and fully functioning modern kitchen, but other than that, the apartment is furnished with antiques he inherited from or was gifted by old relatives. He has way too many books, and he treasures everything he gets as a gift from others, however useless the item is. He is a moderately successful plant dad, because his neighbour's cat somehow always manages to destroy his little balcony garden. All but one of his neighbours are elderly citizens, who all find Remus a very polite and kind man – completely unaware that he is the one who loudly plays the guitar/cello and not the only other younger person in the building. Remus feels no obligation to dispel their misconceptions.
James
Interior design style: Eclectic (intentional)
Style rationale: Big personality, vibrant, bold colours. Proudly presents their identity and personal accomplishments. Extroverted, creative, chaotic, but fun energy. Warm and welcoming atmosphere with rustic wood elements paired with the collection of random objects. Overall very lively and artsy vibe. Can easily labelled as too much and pompous. It takes some time to see through the flashiness to discover the deep devotion to honoring (ethnic) heritage, familial ties and loved ones behind all the showcased extravaganzas.
Residence characteristics: Large family house in the suburbs, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 4 other purpose rooms, terrace, pool, 1 barn, 1 garage, 2 acres of land. James has never really moved out from Potter Manor, as he went to boarding school and inherited the property from his parents a little after graduation. He deeply loves his home and respects his heritage and memories a lot, but he is too much of a character to resist tailoring parts of the house and the interior to his taste. He has a collection of unconventional things (street signs, vinyls, tire rims, Liverpool sports memorabilia, cold war era propaganda posters, maps, festival tickets, foreign label beer cans, etc.), proudly presented alongside his sports trophies, medals, and musical awards. He thrives for the company of others, therefore the house could easily serve as an entertainment centre: he has the biggest of TVs, all gaming consoles, the widest variety of board games, a pool & foosball table, a pool in the garden alongside professional grill and cocktail bar equipment. He also has a fully functioning, soundproofed professional level studio in his basement with a lot of musical instruments and sound engineering & recording equipment. He has a treehouse and an old VW minivan repurposed as a summer guestroom in the garden. Sirius has his own dedicated bedroom, which is left untouched (just as the room of James’ parents).
Lily
Interior design style: Boho Chic
Style rationale: Girly, playful, kind. Plants, plants, plants everywhere, embracing the closeness to nature, fun textures, floral patterns, personally significant items. Non-conformist, free-spirited energy. Quirky, yet tasteful décor with an overall earth toned and pastel colour palette. Pretty and functional furniture, lot of pillows and soft blankets. Sweet and floral scents, calm, cultured and cozy vibes.
Residence characteristics: studio apartment in the city, 1.5 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, balcony. Lily’s flat is located in a fast-paced, busy and a little unpleasant part of the city, but it is near her workplace and has easy access to several public transport options. Her balcony is facing the inner yard of the building, which she managed to bloom up with conscious effort for years against all odds and resistance of obnoxious landlords. She is friendly towards all of her neighbours - even that weird loner guy in that dark basement apartment, who somehow always have the perfect anti-bug compounds at hand and seems to be very fond of Lily only. She has shared the flat with her sister until Petunia moved in with her fiancé, Vernon. Her bedroom was transformed into a study room. Lily has a soft spot for vintage furniture and interiors, but in certain areas she values function over style. She keeps her apartment tidy and organized. She is the most successful plant mom, who dreams about having her own garden.
Peter
Interior design style: Contemporary
Style rationale: Beige and gray color palette, designed to be average enough to appeal to the widest possible range of people. The go-to style of every home stager or AirBnB property owner. Clean, basic, convenient, a little boring even. Interior design lacks personality, the selection of the decor elements is usually driven by fitting the general aesthetic and looking luxurious and not by personal preference. Bland and plain vibes. Looks functional and comfortable and can easily hide structural or other problems with the apartment with clever selection and placement of often built-in furniture that the new owner won’t notice the issues until it’s too late.
Residence characteristics: newly built apartment, 1 bedroom with large walk-in wardrobe, 1 bathroom, dedicated underground parking space. Peter made a great deal with his apartment: he could buy the flat at the best and most early bird discount price after he was informed about the planned real estate construction project by overhearing a conversation regarding the status of obtaining the necessary building permits. He paid in advance the full amount determined in the planning phase of the project, and by the time the construction was finished, the apartment has tripled in value due to inflation rates skyrocketing. He moved into the turnkey property and hasn’t changed a thing ever since. The only pop of colour and testament of his real personality is his walk-in wardrobe and collection of quirky ties.
Snape
Interior design style: (Dark) Minimalist, partly gothic
Style rationale: dark, organized, focused. Basic shapes and textures, simple materials, little to no decoration to ensure lack of stimulation and distractions. Less is more attitude. Can be frustrating to others, but held in high regards by likeminded people. Monochrome, desaturated, mostly black colour palette. Unpleasant, unsettling, overwhelming, bleak, well-structured and functional.  Unparalleled practicality. A vibrant colour or boho item would look very out of place, and would eventually lose its brightness and liveliness because the minimalist environment will slowly oppress it with its own defining features. Unwelcoming, not interested in others (and a little depressing) vibe.
Residence characteristics: small 1 bedroom basement apartment, 1 bathroom, exclusive access to cellar area of the building. Snape is overly organized, values function over design. He finds the brutal simplicity of his interior soothing and calming, and prefers practicality over flashiness. He is comfortable in his gloomy flat, which is tailored to his needs only. No guests are expected ever. He utilizes the full cellar area of the building for his own purposes, (probably) rent free. No one knows exactly what he does there, but as he has a repelling enough aura around him, they rather don't bother him. He hates all his neighbours with burning passion, except that nice redhaired girl adamantly trying to make a pretty indoor garden in the building's yard. The only actual colour and decoration in his apartment is a peace lily in a bright green pot, that was gifted to him by Lily. He secretly likes the magnitude of gothic buildings and started to admire their aesthetic value as he spends a large amount of time in a gothic environment (dark academia vibes!) for his day job.
Regulus
Interior design style: Art Deco
Style rationale: expensive, luxurious, fancy. A more modern and trendier take on the traditional, 18th- and 19th-century European interior design style of Grimmauld Place.
Residence characteristics: large apartment in The City, 2 bedrooms, 4 other purpose rooms, 3 bathrooms, balcony. Regulus got the flat as a graduation present from his parents, neither the location or the interior design was his choice, but was happy to move there (the assumptions regarding his style preferences were spot on). However, he spends more time at his family home than his own, as he likes the company of their family's butler, Kreatcher too much.
Some links: more thoughts about Sirius and Remus' interior preference; lineart and coloured art of Sirius in his flat.
Bonus: basic floorplan of Sirius' flat I made in Paint. It's probably not scaled right, and I'm not sure if it's plausible in an architectural point of view, but I imagine it to be something like this:

it seems like youve got a really strong sense of aesthetics! tell me about your dream home?
Aww I love this, thank you!! 😭🥹
My dream home is a combination of witchy moody victorian and forest cottage vibes! The kitchen would feel very comforting and airy, with soft natural lighting and various glass bottles of spices all over the place. I really want an herb drying rack hanging somewhere in there, too! A small informal table with mismatched chairs. I can see my garden from the window above the sink. Love and protection are put into everything I make. The kitchen is definitely the heart of every home (said with absolutely no bias from this kitchen which nope 😌)
My room would be a dark, rich green, and cream, and maybe a deep dusty rose color with some terracotta accents. Canopy above the bed. Gallery wall of so many random things. The opposite wall would have a dark floral wallpaper, I just think it would make such a cool accent wall effect! Any hardware in the room would be a brushed brass, very antique-y. I have zero solid ideas for the bathroom besides a giant tub lol
Any guest room I may have will be so soft and warm and welcoming and I’d put together a little basket of things for anyone that came to visit, like snacks and water bottles and toiletries and a little handwritten note telling them how grateful I am that they’re here.
But really most of all, I just want a home that all my friends feel safe and loved in, somewhere I can cook for them, and get them throw blankets if they’re cold. Somewhere they know they’ll always be welcome and wanted ♥️

Luxurious Home Design: Elevating Your Living Space
In today's era, luxurious home design has evolved beyond mere opulence to encompass a blend of elegance, comfort, and functionality. It's about creating a space that not only reflects your personal style but also provides a sanctuary of tranquility and sophistication. This article explores the key elements that define luxurious home design and offers insights on how to incorporate them into your living space.
Key Elements of Luxurious Home Design
Quality Materials: Invest in high-quality materials that exude luxury and durability. Consider natural materials like marble, granite, and teak for flooring and countertops. For upholstery, opt for luxurious fabrics like velvet, silk, or cashmere.
Custom Design: Tailored design elements can elevate your home to new heights. Consider custom-made furniture, cabinetry, or lighting fixtures to create a unique and personalized space.
Attention to Detail: Pay meticulous attention to the smallest details. From intricate moldings to exquisite hardware, every element should contribute to the overall luxurious ambiance.
Spaciousness: Luxurious homes often feature ample space. Consider open-plan layouts or rooms with high ceilings to create a sense of grandeur.
Natural Light: Maximize natural light by incorporating large windows or skylights. Abundant natural light not only creates a brighter and more inviting space but also enhances the overall aesthetic.
High-End Appliances: Equip your home with state-of-the-art appliances that combine functionality with sleek design. Consider brands known for their luxury and performance.
Smart Home Technology: Integrate smart home technology to enhance convenience, comfort, and security. Features like automated lighting, climate control, and security systems can elevate the luxury experience.
Luxurious Living Spaces
Master Bedroom: Create a luxurious retreat with plush bedding, custom-designed headboards, and elegant lighting. Consider adding a spa-like bathroom with a soaking tub and luxurious finishes.
Living Room: Opt for comfortable and stylish seating arrangements, such as a sectional sofa or plush armchairs. Incorporate statement pieces like a grand piano or a marble fireplace to add a touch of opulence.
Dining Room: A formal dining room is a hallmark of luxury. Choose a large dining table made of high-quality materials and pair it with elegant chairs. Consider adding a chandelier or a statement light fixture to create a focal point.
Kitchen: A luxurious kitchen should be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. High-end appliances, custom cabinetry, and luxurious countertops are essential elements.
Home Theater: Create a dedicated home theater for immersive entertainment experiences. Consider installing a large-screen television, surround sound system, and comfortable seating.
Color Palette and Decor
Neutral Tones: A neutral color palette of whites, creams, and grays provides a timeless and elegant foundation.
Accent Colors: Introduce pops of color with accent furniture, artwork, or textiles. Consider rich jewel tones like deep blues, emerald greens, or burgundy reds.
Luxurious Fabrics: Incorporate luxurious fabrics like velvet, silk, or cashmere for upholstery, curtains, or throw pillows.
Statement Pieces: Add a touch of drama and opulence with statement pieces like large-scale artwork, antique furniture, or unique sculptures.
Outdoor Living
Landscaping: Create a luxurious outdoor space with meticulously landscaped gardens, swimming pools, and outdoor entertaining areas.
Outdoor Living Spaces: Design outdoor living spaces with comfortable seating, fire pits, or outdoor kitchens for entertaining and relaxation.
Conclusion
Luxurious home design is about creating a space that reflects your personal style, provides comfort, and exudes elegance. By incorporating elements like quality materials, custom design, attention to detail, and luxurious amenities, you can transform your home into a haven of opulence and sophistication. Remember, the key to luxurious home design is to create a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, reflecting your unique taste and lifestyle.

Is Cast Iron the Best Material for Drawer Pulls and Iron Gate Handles?
When choosing the right hardware for your home, durability, aesthetic appeal, and functionality are paramount considerations. Cast iron has long been a popular choice among the various materials available, particularly for drawer pulls and iron gate handles. Cast iron, known for its robust strength and timeless look, is often regarded as a reliable option for both decorative and functional purposes. But is it truly the best material for these applications? Let’s dive into the pros and cons to determine whether cast iron stands out as the optimal material.
The Benefits of Cast Iron for Drawer Pulls
Cast iron drawer pulls are widely known for their durability and strength. When you install them, you're investing in hardware that can withstand years of use without showing significant wear. Cast iron is less likely to bend, chip, or break under pressure compared to other materials, making it a preferred choice for frequently used furniture like kitchen cabinets, dresser drawers, or storage chests.
Cast iron lends itself to a variety of design styles, from rustic farmhouse to vintage industrial, making it a versatile option for different interior themes. Whether you’re restoring antique furniture or upgrading a modern space, cast iron drawer pulls can provide a distinctive, classic look. The dark, matte finish adds a sense of solidity and timeless elegance to your furniture, complementing various wood tones and finishes.
Tumblr media
In terms of cost, cast iron drawer pulls tend to be more affordable than materials like brass or bronze, making them a cost-effective solution for those who need to buy in bulk. Furthermore, they are relatively easy to maintain. While they can be prone to rust if exposed to excessive moisture, a simple wipe-down and occasional application of protective oils can keep them in pristine condition.
However, there are a few drawbacks to consider. Cast iron is heavier than many other materials, which could pose challenges if the drawer pulls are installed on lightweight or fragile furniture. Additionally, while cast iron’s dark finish is appealing, it might not fit well with all design schemes, particularly those that require a lighter or more polished aesthetic.
The Advantages of Cast Iron for Iron Gate Handles
Iron gate handles, often used in exterior gates, require a material that is not only strong but also weather-resistant. Cast iron fits this bill well. Its inherent strength makes it a top contender for gate handles that will be exposed to constant use and the elements. A cast iron handle can handle the stress of regular pulling and pushing, which is essential for large or frequently used gates.
The aesthetic appeal is again a key factor. Cast iron exudes a rustic, industrial look that can elevate the appearance of a garden gate, entryway, or backyard fence. It provides a sense of security and sturdiness while contributing to the overall style of the gate. Whether your home has a traditional or modern aesthetic, cast iron can often serve as a complementary material that blends functionality with form.
Tumblr media
One significant advantage of cast iron for outdoor use is that it can be coated with protective finishes to prevent rust and corrosion. This makes it suitable for exterior applications where other materials might degrade faster under exposure to rain, sunlight, or humidity.
However, like drawer pulls, iron gate handles made from cast iron can be quite heavy. If not installed properly, they could put unnecessary stress on the gate itself or make the gate harder to open, especially for children or the elderly. Additionally, while cast iron is durable, it does require some maintenance to prevent rusting, especially in humid or coastal environments where salt in the air can accelerate corrosion.
Comparisons to Other Materials for Drawer Pulls
When considering alternatives to cast iron for drawer pulls, materials such as brass, stainless steel, and wood come to mind. Brass, for instance, offers a more polished, shiny appearance that might be more fitting for formal or luxurious settings. It is also resistant to tarnishing and corrosion, making it a low-maintenance choice. However, brass is typically more expensive than cast iron, and its softer nature means it can be more prone to scratching and denting over time.
Stainless steel, on the other hand, is another durable option that works particularly well in modern or minimalist designs. It is resistant to corrosion, even in moist environments, and is lighter than cast iron, which can be an advantage in some applications. Stainless steel does not have the same rustic charm as cast iron, but it offers a clean, sleek look that many homeowners find appealing.
Wood drawer pulls are another alternative that can add a warm, natural feel to a space. While wood is lighter and more versatile in terms of design, it lacks the durability of cast iron and can wear down over time, especially in high-traffic areas like kitchens or bathrooms.
Comparisons to Other Materials for Gate Handles
For iron gate handles, the main competitors to cast iron include materials like stainless steel, bronze, and aluminum. Stainless steel is an excellent alternative for those looking for a more contemporary aesthetic. It resists rust and corrosion, even in outdoor environments, and is much lighter than cast iron. However, it lacks the vintage charm and heavy-duty feel that cast iron offers.
Bronze, like cast iron, can give a gate handle a traditional and upscale look. It has excellent corrosion resistance and develops a natural patina over time, adding to its character. However, bronze is significantly more expensive than cast iron, making it a less budget-friendly option.
Aluminum is another option for gate handles, particularly for those who need a lightweight and rust-resistant material. However, aluminum lacks the strength and durability of cast iron, and its appearance is often less appealing for those seeking a classic or rustic aesthetic.
Conclusion
In conclusion, cast iron is a solid choice for both drawer pulls and iron gate handles, particularly for those who value durability, strength, and a timeless aesthetic. While there are other materials that may offer benefits such as lighter weight, different finishes, or lower maintenance, cast iron remains one of the best options for those seeking a robust and long-lasting solution. Whether you’re restoring antique furniture or upgrading your outdoor gate, cast iron provides a balance of functionality and beauty that few materials can match.

Gallery visit: MOMA (6.7.24) - PART 1
Ja'Tovia Gary's THE GIVERNY SUITE (2019, sculptural installation -settee, twenty-five painted frames, altar to Yemaya (candle, seashells, anchor, fruit, plate, vase, flowers, glass jar of molasses, glass jar of rum, and fabric), altar to Oshun (candle, mirror, cowrie shells, fruit, cinnamon sticks, plate, vases, flowers, glass jar of white wine, glass jar of honey, and fabric) - and short film (39 mins 51 secs))
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Description: "Filmed in Harlem, New York, and in Claude Monet's gardens in Giverny, France, THE GIVERNY SUITE is a cinematic poem that advocates for the safety and bodily autonomy of Black women. Employing techniques including hand-painted film animation and montage editing, Gary first developed the work during an artist residency in Giverny, where the gardens offered a space of respite. Centrally featured are person-on-the-street interviews in which the artist approaches women at the intersection of Lenox Avenue (also known as Malcolm X Boulevard) and West 116th Street and asks, "Do you feel safe?" These interviews are interspersed with footage of singer Nina Simone, performer Josephine Baker, political activist Fred Hampton, and Diamond Reynolds recounting the killing of her boyfriend Philando Castile by police in 2016. The installation also includes antique furniture as well as altars dedicated to the Yoruba deities Yemaya and Oshun. "Healing is at the root of the work," Gary explains. "Making art is a transformative process that transmutes pain or trauma into something beautiful, useful, functional, instructive."
Positioned near the entrance are two altars devoted to West African orishas: Oshun, the river deity, who represents divine femininity, love, and beauty, is depicted in bright yellow; and Yemaya, the fierce protector of women, who is associated with oceans, fertility, and creativity, is represented by the colors white and blue. Both deities originate from the Yoruban spiritual practice Lucumí, which was carried over to the Americas by African peoples during the transatlantic slave trade. In this work, French Colonial-style antique frames and a slanted settee gesture to colonization's complex legacy as well as the comforts found in many Southern Black grandmothers' homes, including the artist's own."
Mike Kelley's Deodorized Central Mass with Satellites (1991/1999, sculptural installation - plush toys sewn over wood and wire frames with styrofoam packing material, nylon rope, pulleys, steel hardware and hanging plates, fiberglass, car paint, and disinfectant)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Description: "In 1987 Mike Kelley began to make sculptures from stuffed animals, which he described as "the adult's perfect model of a child": cute, clean, sexless. However, Kelley's plush toys, purchased secondhand from thrift stores and yard sales, were discarded and soiled from use. Seemingly beyond redemption, they are darkly humorous monuments to lost innocence and repressed trauma. Deodorized Central Mass with Satellites was among Kelley's last works to feature stuffed animals. The toys are clustered in a cellular arrangement of one "central mass" and thirteen "satellites." To avoid eliciting an emotional or sentimental response from viewers, Kelley sewed the animals face-in. They are surrounded by ten brightly colored, abstract sculptures the artist called "deodorizers," which release a pine-scented mist into the air. By contrasting the degraded consequences of consumer excess with the slick, reductive forms of modernism, Kelley taunts the hierarchies between high art and mainstream culture, between obsessive hygiene and moral decline."
Montien Boonma's House of Hope (1996-1997, sculptural installation - herbs, spices, natural binders, cotton string, painted wood, and steel)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Description: "In House of Hope (1996-1997) Montien Boonma invites us into an immersive space filled with thousands of prayer-bead strands hanging above a pyramid of painted wooden steps. The surrounding wall painting suggests clouds or incense smoke from Buddhist temples. The artist crafted his pigments and beads from traditional Thai medicinal herbs and spices; the aromatic materials suffuse the gallery with scent. Boonma sought to create an atmosphere of bodily sensation: "When you enter a temple, it makes you warm… there's the feeling that we will be given help-like having a father and mother to protect us. Boonma created this installation after his wife died from cancer in 1995. Her diagnosis the year before led the artist to immerse himself in Buddhist rituals of devotion and healing. "I was asking for a lot," he said. "I was asking for the world to stop." Boonma's "house" explored the possibility of hope in a time of environmental disaster, industrialization, and the rise of global epidemics--crises that persist in the present, and which the work allows us to confront in new ways today."
Hague Yang's Sallim (2009, sculptural installation - steel frame, perforated metal plate, caster, aluminium venetian blinds, knitting yarn, acrylic mirror, IV stand, light bulbs, cable, electric fan, timer, garlic, dishes, hot pad, and scent emitter)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Description: ""There is a mysteriousness and spirituality in the most banal things. So my interest might be to reveal or make a crack in that mundaneness and show a glimpse of the miraculous, artist Hague Yang has said. This gallery brings together artworks by Yang and others that reimagine everyday environments through introspective reflection and material restraint. These works evoke spectral architectures, or spaces where what is absent may be as resonant as the visible or tangible. Created primarily during the 1990s and early 2000s - a period marked by new forms of global interconnectivity that blurred distinctions between public and private spheres - these works focus on the intricacies of daily life as a means to reflect, capture, or magnify experiences of time, space, and the self.
This sculpture, whose Korean title roughly translates to "homemaking," is a life-size model of the kitchen in the artist's former Berlin apartment, where she lived as well as worked. Describing Sallim as a "skeleton" of the original space, Yang has included sculptural elements that suggest utilitarian fixtures, such as a radiator and water boiler. "Some of them are very representative of a kitchen," she explains. "But some of them are blunt and rather puzzling." The artist has recreated not only this domestic environment, but its invisible sensorial experiences: scent emitters release smells of food and digestion, like coffee, bread, and excrement, while a fan circulates air.""
Otobong Nkanga's Tied to the Other Side (2021, woven tapestry)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Description: "Nkanga often portrays the natural world as a site of valuable knowledge for humans. Her tapestry Tied to the Other Side, set in an ambiguous landscape, employs abstracted shapes and textures to unfurl a universal narrative: the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. On one end is an arrangement of fragmented limbs sprouting from dense vegetation. Over time, shown in the image's progression from right to left, these body parts fall into states of decay and slowly become the spiritual energy source for radiating lights at the other end of the tapestry. This light, the artist seems to illustrate, will one day nourish the earth and spawn new life. She explains: "Even in death there is the possibility of regeneration. Nothing is lost; everything is used again.""
Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans (1962, acrylic paint and metallic enamel paint on canvas)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Description: "When asked why he chose to paint Campbell's soup cans, Warhol offered a deadpan reply: "I used to have the same lunch every day, for twenty years, I guess, the same thing over and over again." That daily meal, universally available throughout the United States, is the subject of this work. Warhol made the 32 canvases - one for each of the flavors of soup then sold by Campbell's - using a combination of projection, tracing, painting, and stamping. Repeating a nearly identical image, the work at once stresses the uniformity and ubiquity of the product's packaging and subverts the common characterization of painting as a medium of invention and originality."
Rosa Barba's 'states of matter' works
Row 1: Uncertain Theme - and Therefore Abstract (2021, steel, glass, motor, and 35mm film), At home with the Locust People (1974, acrylic paint on canvas)
Rows 2 and 3: Aggregate States of Matters (2019, projected short film (21 mins 14 secs))
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Description: "With her film installation located further in this gallery, Rosa Barba poses a question: how can a form of visual expression convey the environmental and social impact of an issue as fraught as climate change? For this work, the artist interviewed members of Indigenous Quechua communities in Peru, who have had to adapt their daily practices due to the melting of a nearby glacier. Abandoning journalistic conventions like voice-over narration, she interweaves text and images of the country's wide-ranging terrain. In doing so, she questions the traditional binary of nature and culture, engaging with philosophical, spiritual, and cultural approaches to the changing environment and to time itself. Through custom technology, Barba also explores how film archives and transmits knowledge and information; her use of celluloid - an increasingly obsolete material that degrades with each revolution through a projector - resonates with the fragility of cultural memory and the natural landscape."

A true Victorian in Albany, Oregon built in 1880, 3bds. 2ba. $525K.
Tumblr media
Now, this is a Victorian.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When people flawlessly restore an historic home you have to commend them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like I’ve traveled back in time. Look at the wonderful French wood stove.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, this is a dining area and historic “show” kitchen.
Tumblr media
Through this little pantry is the real kitchen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s modernized, (well, it has to be), and it’s cute.
Tumblr media
The only out-of-place thing in here is the shower. But everything else is fabulous. I wish they had the Victorian shower from Reproduction Hardware.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nice little library.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look how the stairs curve.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This home is so authentic. That lighting fixture looks like the original gaslight or oil lamp that was electrified.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So pretty. All the wallpaper is so spot on.
Tumblr media
The owner’s furniture is amazing, too. Look at this hall stand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow, what a large bathroom. I wonder why the toilet is so close to the tub, though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s hard to picture this w/o the furniture. It would cost a fortune to buy antiques like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The old brick foundation in the basement. They shored it up, but didn’t touch the brick.
Tumblr media
Some extra plumbing fixtures. Is that tub hooked up?
Tumblr media
A little work area.
Tumblr media
This is great- a garden room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s a cute yard.
Tumblr media
Nice garden and back porch.
Tumblr media
Driveway and car port around the back.

rip the next generation they never got to experience the wonders of gardener haskins.
like its a giant warehouse. with multiple floors. and instead of stairs and lifts its got these massive ass ramps that were the BEST for careering down top speed trying to swing round the corner not hit into the wall. I used to beg my parents to let us bring our sledges so we could drag eachother down and up the ramps at top speed. most random layout ever. and across the walkway you had a fishing tackle shop. only time id ever go to a shop like that but we went every time. and above it an upcyling antique? furniture store it was great. ranked highest on my "im a kid and lets do a day out to the hardware shop" list. rip queen you didnt survive the plague

5 Stunning Entrance Designs For An Elegant First Impression
Tumblr media
There is a certain joie de vivre that comes from perceiving a beautiful entrance. It doesn’t just dictate the viewer’s expectation of the living experience that is to follow, it creates a positive and uplifting vibe for their entire visit or stay.
Entrances are tricky because they have to combine functionality – a place to leave jackets, shoes, and umbrellas – with aesthetics that extend over a period of time.
Let’s take a look at some entrance designs that are ideal for an elegant Indian home setting.
Embrace the beauty of plants
A garden entrance is an excellent solution for a seamless from the great outdoors to interiors, especially if your home is in an exotic location with incredible views.
Muted and earthy tones beautifully offset the vibrant greens of indoor plants like ficus trees, orchids, a variety of cacti, philodendrons, and palms. Ornate planters, such as terracotta pots or antique urns, can add a touch of opulence to your main entrance.

Materials for building a welcoming entrance
The right texture can transport you from an opulent setting to a contemporary home. Brass or bronze add a touch of sophistication and grandeur to your entrance, while stucco can provide a modern and contemporary aesthetic. Natural stone gives a more classic and timeless look. Wood on the other hand displays warmth and beauty that can add charm and character to a home’s exterior.
While deciding on the right material for your entrance make sure to pick something that encapsulates the whole vibe of your house and also complements other design structures. To add a touch of Indian culture to your space, Isprava recommends jaali designs. Whether you incorporate it into your wall decor, furniture, or other home accents, jaali work looks simply beautiful.
A door that reflects your vibe
Selecting the perfect door can prove a challenge because they invite guests in, yet serve the purpose of providing security. Here’s some insight:
French doors, with their large glass panes, can provide an elegant and airy entrance to a tropical home. Rustic wooden doors are often made of high-quality wood such as mahogany or teak and are designed to look antique or distressed. They are laid with intricate details, such as carved panels or decorative hardware, and can be stained or painted in various colours to match your personal style. Sliding glass doors allow a lot of natural light to enter the home along with a beautiful vista of the surrounding landscape. Visit Isprava to read more.

The Historic District is a collection of 75 buildings that represent the architecture from 18th,19th, and 20th centuries.
The residents of New Market are proud of their town's heritage and tradition. This is evident in regular celebrations such as The Day in New Market and Christmas in New Market as well as in the historical Main Street lined with antique shops. New Market residents are also well-known for their hospitality and courtesy, as shown by how they treat guests.
