It was an emotional week this week.

On Monday night, our newly elected school board voted to ban 57 books. As an English teacher, that felt like the worst hit. Then ten minutes later, they voted on a policy that requires teachers to put the names of all trans students on a digital list so home can be contacted and they will be forcibly outed.

We were told that failure to comply with either directive would result in on-the-spot termination. To participate in a walk out, on-the-spot termination and indefinite suspension for kids. Same consequences to express an opinion about it in class. It may be an empty threat, but we don’t know.

I’ve cried through most of the week. Today at lunch with my department felt like the end of an era. Not a single one of us knows if we’ll be in the same room together ever again after the individual choices each of us made to fight this. But I do know, I would never wish to be in any other room with any other people at this point and time.

I became a teacher to be an advocate for young adults. I have been told to comply with a policy that will actively endanger them. I can’t do that. The policy has the word “dignity” in it. There is no dignity for these trans young people.

In the 2010s, we danced in the streets. In the 2020s, we fight. Neutrality sides with the oppressor.

Use the Real ID act to block FL’s driver's license gender marker ban!

I know that, in a letter released Friday, every member of Florida's Democratic congressional delegation urged your administration to use its powers to block Florida's driver's license gender marker ban for transgender individuals using the federal Real ID act. I support this request 100%. As the letter states: “If [these] revisions are allowed to stand in Florida, and similar provisions are allowed to stand in other states, they will undoubtedly continue to spread, creating more confusion and inconsistency while severely hampering Americans' ability to travel, including LGBTQ+ American's ability to leave states that are hostile to their existence.” This would be unacceptable. The United States federal government should mandate Florida to come into compliance and use every other power at its disposal to prevent discrimination against transgender individuals on driver's licenses. The Biden administration has an important tool to utilize to counteract anti-trans Republican legislatures across the country. Please use it. Thanks.

some good news!! the spanish state's ministry of equality has finally passed one of the most progressive trans laws on the planet, shielded free and universal access to abortion and banned conversion therapy and genital surgery for intersex babies, among a lot of other feminist policies. the minister of equality irene montero gave a speech thanking spain's lgtb and trans associations for helping her draft these legislations. couldn't be more proud!!

It's a trend so many of our kids are falling for already because all they want is acceptance and right now nothing will get them a quick in with their peers and some teachers then to say they are somthing they not (or even are attracted to something their not)

They are being told something is wrong with them if they feel OK with their bodies, if they feel normal! That's not OK!

You're destroying gender and pushing your problems onto little moldable minds because you couldn't handle the gender dysphoria by yourself and seek proper help.

Because the antitrans activists have put this idea in my head, by constantly repeating their mantra of "Groomed drugged mutilated sterilised groomed drugged mutilated sterilised groomed drugged mutilated sterilised" (sidenote- I have never in any other circumstance seen "drugged" used for something that isn't psychoactive. You'd never say "He was drugged with ibuprofen."

But I want to reclaim it, like how we reclaimed PERVERT and CORRUPTER OF THE YOUTH a dozen other words which were absolutely as much of a "serious" allegation as GROOMER is. Yes, shockingly- When I meet a kid who is flailing around and thinking of themselves as a sufferer of gender identity disorder or of same-sex-attractions, I want to show them that they can be queer and trans and gay and bi instead. Frankly, just like how many cishets will take a child and encourage them to be cisgendered and gender-conforming and heterosexual and heteroromantic.

Yeah the constant contradictory arguments is frustrating but with how you put it that way, I can understand the confused and fearful mindset a little better now.

They have to find a way to justify their views that defy logic and science to reassure themselves that they are right. And this goes for so many people who aren't solid in their beliefs. (Also makes me think of flat earthers for some reason)

Hey, if you're interested in radical feminism the very first thing you need to do is make an active effort to not to center men over women, even the men you know personally or create unnecessary competition between women on the basis of male acceptance. This should be fairly obvious, but your misogynistic or male pandering positions will not be tolerated here and you're going to feel ostracized by your positions if you don't make an active effort to live by the ideals we push in feminism.

I've had a couple of people who are obviously interested in radical feminism (good!) in my notes the past few days that are saying blatantly misogynistic or male catering things (bad!). Commenting on women's appearances or making emotional appeals for males accused of rape over all women because you don't care about the innocent women being hurt over the idea that a man you know could be falsely accused? That's down right unacceptable in radical feminism. If you have more consideration for the "innocent" men being accused of rape, which is a less than 2% false accusory rate, then the women claiming to be victimized by them and you are not approaching this topic as a feminist. You're approaching it as a daughter, sister, mother, or friend but not as a feminist. That is you upholding the patriarchy for the males around you to benefit over the women around you. Antithetical to the goals we work towards here.

Get over your own hangups, get with the program, then you can join the conversations. However, the dismissal of other women because you believe they have pretty privilege or the prioritizing of men because you could imagine a man you love in that situation is directly anti-feminist. You're going to have a hard time being in these spaces with that attitude and really it's no one's problem but yours. We are all on the same page here, yall need to catch up.

Not naming any names specifically because I can see both of the people I'm currently talking about are new to these spaces and probably haven't ever even touched theory, but if the shoe fits consider lacing it up. These are, of course, things we should all be monitoring within ourselves anyways. To make sure that we are living up to the ideals that we espouse here.
