Police break up anti-imperialist protest, Washington DC: 1932 A protest took place near the Japanese Embassy at 2514 Massachusetts Ave. NW in Washington, D.C..
Police attacked the 30 demonstrators with clubs, fists and blackjacks while staff at the Japanese chancery watched from the roof and windows.
The protestors resisted and knocked down several of the police, including one who was hospitalized as a result of the confrontation. One of the demonstrators, Joan Hardy, was knocked unconscious during the fight.
When International Labor Defense attorney Bernard Ades went to seek their release at the Third Precinct station, Superintendent of the Police Pelham Glassford expelled him from the station.
Glassford had ordered the arrest of the demonstrators for parading without a permit, even though they were on the sidewalk and not blocking traffic. Some of the demonstrators were also charged with assault.
The Japanese army invaded Manchuria on the mainland in November 1931. Chinese forces resisted until February of 1932 when they were defeated. Guerilla warfare continued until the end of World War II in 1945. Reports and photos of Japanese bombing of civilians and shooting of unarmed survivors caused revulsion around the world at the expansion of the Japanese empire.
The Japanese invasion of Manchuria is regarded as the opening salvo in what became World War II.

Interwoven Chains of Oppression: Emma Goldman’s Critique of Colonialism, Nationalism, Imperialism, and Capitalism, and Pathways to Sustainable Alternatives
Emma Goldman, an anarchist-philosopher and activist, critiqued the interconnected systems of colonialism, nationalism, imperialism, and capitalism, arguing that they collectively perpetuate oppression, inequality, and unsustainability. By examining her thoughts, we can understand how these systems are intertwined and why they are unsustainable. Interconnectivity and Unsustainability Colonialism…

truly nothing is more American than being like "yay I love the Marvel films yay I love the Captain America films" until the Captain America film has an Israeli superhero character who works with the Israeli military. and then we have to boycott it. but before this it was fine to support films about Captain America, an American superhero character who works with the American military!
our wholesome and universal commercialized nationalism vs their sinister child murdering nationalism!!! lmfao
ive made this unrebloggable but just in case someone gets up in my face I will make this crystal clear: I am not telling you to hate Israel less I am TELLING YOU TO HATE AMERICA MORE

Not enough people on here talking about The Boy and the Heron doing for Imperial Japan what Pan’s Labrynth did for Spanish Fascism huh.
So they are both movies about a kid going into a fantasy world while fascism and violence is devastating our world around them. Del Toro makes the connection explicit by making the fascism of the real world extremely explicit and directly hostile to our protagonist. In The Boy and the Heron the war, militarism and it’s horrors are very much present - labor volunteers among elementary schoolers, patriotic parades of aging soldiers, the mention of the fall of Saipan (which brought down the government and made clear to those in power that Japan was doomed) those Zero cockpits and of course the ever present and unspoken horror of the firebombing of Tokyo, which runs through the film from the second you hear that air raid siren and see those embers falling through all the fire in the film.
But within the fantasy world we also have a cockatiel (?) “Duch” whose rallies looks like Mussolini and who acts like a Japanese militarist. Which is sinister and absurd and very funny. To say nothing of our protagonists war profiteer father charging in with a samurai sword and discovering that his antagonists are parakeets (and getting covered in bird shit). Indeed the Parakeets transforming into harmless birbs almost seems to be about the absurdity of fascism and militarism. In Pan’s Labrynth the fascists and militarists were the real monsters. In the Boy and the Heron they are ridiculous.

And then can we talk about how the tower that was built at the time of Meiji falls in 1944!?

rape is just a thing that may happen during war. we're not saying it didn't happen. it may have occurred. rape is not uncommon in war. it's not a weapon of war, there's no proof it's a pattern of violence against women, it's just something that happens for some reason.

June 20, 1967 - On this day in 1967, boxing legend Muhammad Ali was given a prison sentence for refusing to join the US military and fight in the Vietnam War. He was sentenced to five years behind bars and fined $10,000, an unusually harsh sentence aimed at breaking his anti-war resistance. “Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go 10,000 miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on Brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs?” argued Muhammad Ali. "Working Class Youth and Militarism," The Young Worker. August 1, 1924. Page 7. --- (May Day Speech delivered by Comrade. W. Sydney of Montreal Y. C.L.) Being a representative of the only youth organization taking part in the May Day celebration, I will especially speak of the problems confronting the working class youth. The first question with which we must deal is that of militarism.
The world today has been turned into one big military camp. The number of e soldiers under arms is unthinkable. It is estimated that the armies of the world. amount to seven millions of men, double the pre-war figure. And this after all the bunk that was spread of fighting against the menace of German militarism, and later of the need for disarmament. Why does, capitalism the world over support such large numbers of men under arms, if not in preparation for coming wars? Wars! Again will the bodies of the working class youth lie rotting in the trenches!
Again will the working class youth be asked to lay down their lives to protect the property of their exploiters! Why have we to suffer all of this? Because our "good hearted" masters may be able to capture more markets and enslave more youth!
Young Workers! The menace is at hand. Be ready to act immediately! Down with capitalist-militarism!
The agencies by which capitalism prepares cannon-fodder for the future and poisons the mind of our youth are the Cadets, the Boy Scouts, and the Girl Guides. Who are these organizations? They are kept up by capitalism the world over to ensnare the youth. The working class youth are taken into these organizations and used against the working class itself. During strikes and other working class, struggles not only are the soldiers used to break us, but these different military sections are used to scab against us and to break the power of the workers. Brother against Brother! Father against Son! Thus the capitalists line up the workers against themselves. Our youth is being used against us. Remember!
Do not join these organizations. They are being used against you and your class. But it is not enough that you do not join them-work against, them, agitate against them, speak against them!
No working, boy or girl should join them! Down with imperialist war! Only the erection of workers' state will prevent for ever their recurrence.

Four genocides are happening right now:
Palestine/Gaza
Sudan
Congo
Tigra
Last 3 are in Africa so no mainstream news coverage.
US is funding the 1st one because of Zionism (Israel).
There is a 3 front war coming due to US presidential election being next November: Palestine (siding with Israel, Russia (siding with Ukraine), Iran (siding with Israel vs Iran & Palestine).
Biden is asking for $100 billion -- $60 billion for Israel & $40 billion for Ukraine.
He refuses to say how long the US engagements in Israel & Ukraine would be or to give any kind of timetable yet he is demanding 100 billion US dollars fund the genocide in Palestine & the war in Ukraine.
Biden is already openly threatening Iran using very bellicose statements that they had better stay out of Palestine and essentially doing everything he can to start WW3.
Biden is already making an argument that wars in Palestine & Ukraine are good for the US economy in trying to get Congress to approve the $100 billion in aid to Israel & Ukraine.
He claimed that US weapons manufacturing plants that make the weapons in the Israeli and Ukrainian conflicts would be responsible for creating 15k+ US jobs.
It is the Iraq War all over again.
Trumped up, contrived, fake as fuck, only happening to prop up sagging presidential approval ratings, to assure reelection & to drum up jingoism, nationalism & virulent blind patriotism that leads to nihilistic militarism, warmongering, national bloodlust & endless empire building on the corpses of young men, some idealistic, many black brown & poor, endlessly exploited by the capitalist war machine.
Ads to Be All You Can Be while Uncle Sam pays for college education that should be free when student loans literally just went back into repayment will coincide nicely with the aggressive push for WW3.
American jobs. American corpses. American mothers weeping for their dead sons.
Caskets draped in US flags for 21 year old boys.

palestine will forever and has forever been the one thing companies/public officials/etc will never budge on and it’s because it comes with a profit loss. there is no DEI hire appeasement that they can hide behind. the options are quite literally ‘stop supporting israel even if it means losing a bunch of money’ or ‘continue supporting israel so you can keep making a bunch of money’ which is a no brainer if you’re evil

All the Scandinavian countries have mandatory millitary service, I've heard. I don't like that. Not one bit. Any country with mandatory millitary service is not a country I'd want to be in. Looking at all of you: Israel, Switzerland, Turkey, Lithuania, etc. I'm glad I didn't have to deal with that here in Canada. And while I'm sure the people from these countries are lovely, I can't cope with this millitary thing. It's awful and should be abolished at once. At once, I say!
