The Totally Spies-ification of Adrien
Tumblr media
Okay, it's been long enough that I can actually discuss how Adrien's slavery is depicted in the show without anger-fueled exaggerations and hyperbole. I want to discuss how Miraculous treats Adrien's slavery very flippantly and how it is, like everything in this show post-retool, all about Marinette. The show has a lot of stuff that hints that the writers intend for Adrien to be viewed a very certain way. I believe the writers made Adrien a slave for Marinette’s benefit and I will explain how I came to this conclusion.
I’ve joked before about how Astruc has worked on Totally Spies, “one of the kinkiest cartoons ever made”. I’d like to tackle this idea and how it relates to Miraculous more seriously. I’d like to tackle the topic of titillation and how it relates to how this show approaches slavery with such flippancy. My claim is that Adrien being a slave is not meant to be horrifying, which is why the story doesn't treat it as such; it's meant to be titillating.
I usually don't use Read Mores, since they can lead to broken links later, but this is really long. Strap in, folks.
Titillation for the context of this analysis means “content with the intention to excite romantically or sexually”, basically it’s about “kinky” stuff. The purpose of talking about sexuality in relation to Miraculous is not to paint the writers as some kind of fiends, but to present the fact that many teenagers are curious about romance and sex and will think about sex unprompted. This means titillating content in cartoons doesn’t even need to be related to sex to be titillating. And Astruc has a history of putting titillating stuff in his work, with Totally Spies being a very notable example of how you can include non-sexual titillating content in a kids’ show.
It all comes down to expected audience reactions. Adrien is meant to be sexy. I don’t mean that in a “the writers think this is sexy” way, but a “the writers think the projected audience of straight teenage girls will think this is sexy” way. He gets put into bondage three times in ‘Copycat’, ‘Anti-Bug’ and ‘Reverser’ and all three times the camera seems to like to show him off. He is meant to be an object of attraction for the audience. The people criticizing this show have been pointing out how Ladybug's costume accentuates her butt for years, but this is not something that occurs with just Ladybug. When he isn't posing for the viewers, Cat Noir gets whacked around by Akuma’s a lot, but a lot of the time it ends with him in a prone position that is also titillating, in ‘Pixelator’ it goes as far as having his butt jut out. However, the idea that Cat Noir is the one who gets hit when an Akuma needs to show off how dangerous they are is also part of the power dynamic where Marinette or Ladybug gets to show off, so it’s not purely for titillation, which is why other examples, like ‘Stormy Weather’ are more comedic.
It’s likely that Adrien-as-Adrien doesn’t get to participate in the show’s slapstick much, since that aspect of the character is presented as the perfect beauty, a role usually reserved for female characters who only ever get a little bit flustered or banged up to make sure they keep looking attractive. Marinette screams "waack" and runs face first into a wall in the same episode where the silliest thing Adrien gets to do is sneeze (Mr Pigeon). Adrien is meant to be attractive, sexy, titillating, in different ways in his different forms. As Cat Noir he is more active and more sexy, as Adrien he’s more passive and pretty, much like how female love interests can fall into these categories. It’s the Betty and Veronica dichotomy; in the Archie franchise Betty and Veronica are shown as the wholesome and sexy romance options and the reason the writers go out of their way not to resolve the love triangle is to keep the appeal of these both options going. People’s tastes differ, so it would alienate some audiences to pick one over the other. With Miraculous they solved the problem by having the two romance options be the different identities of a single character.
Frankly, as of the season five finale, Adrien is approaching “sexy lamp” levels of replicating sexist ways of writing a female character but just changing the gender. What else do you call him lying on the floor in despair while his love interest gets his superpowers and uses them to beat up his abusive father, while somehow being perfectly fine and happily kissing Marinette later after said father is dead and gone? Adrien’s trauma is debilitating when it serves the writers’ purposes, but stops being a problem as soon as they need him to smile and look pretty. The main reason Adrien’s trauma is so inconsistent is so that he can act as Marinette’s trophy so that Marinette has somebody to kiss in the final shot. If Adrien was despairing about not being good enough for her, or grossly crying about being an orphan, Marinette wouldn’t have a fun time kissing him. And if Marinette isn’t having fun, the members of the audience projecting onto her aren’t having fun either.
Speaking of how Adrien’s depiction relates to Marinette, here comes the controversial part of this post: while Marinette is not depicted as a literal slave owner in-story, narratively, she is very much treated as Adrien's owner from a meta perspective. We, the viewers, are meant to see Adrien as Marinette's property, and the twist of Adrien being a part of a slave race in a dynamic where Marinette holds all the cards is meant to be a good thing. We have been primed to view everything about Adrien to actually be about Marinette, because Marinette is the center of the universe of Miraculous and Adrien belongs to her because he’s the main character’s love interest. Adrien being revealed to be a slave that Marinette could control but then chooses to “merely” manipulate is meant to be glorifying to Marinette and titillating to the viewer. I will elaborate.
Marinette has been incredibly possessive of Adrien since day one and she is only occasionally depicted as being in the wrong about this, when she goes too far by the show’s standards. She stalks Lila and Adrien whenever she sees them hanging out together and she’s unreasonably jealous of Kagami. The only time she is depicted as being in the wrong is not when she's sniffing Adrien's pillow after breaking into his room, but when she actually bullies Kagami out of jealousy, and even that is depicted as more of an unfortunate misunderstanding than Marinette actively doing something wrong. Marinette is more sympathetic towards Kagami when she finds out she and Adrien aren't as close as she thought, that Kagami’s pursuit of Adrien is more hopeless than hers. Basically, Marinette is only in the wrong because Kagami isn't a threat, not because she was doing anything wrong by bullying her to defend her “territory”.
This gets flipped near the end of the season, though. When Adrien and Kagami do start dating, it's depicted as this big tragedy even more so than Master Fu losing his memories. Master Fu going missing is an afterthought, while Adrien choosing someone else over Marinette is the big “darkest hour” moment of the season three mid-finale, the cliffhanger moment of her crying in Luka’s arms while all hope is lost. Marinette isn’t directly crying about this, she is crying from “all the pressure”, but Marinette breaking down happens immediately after a scene of Kagami leaning in to kiss Adrien that has a somber dirge playing in the background. The first part of the finale has everything going wrong at the end; Master Fu is missing, Chloé gets willingly Akumatized, Marinette breaks down, and Kagami leans in to kiss Adrien. These scenes being put closely together is telling us that these are all bad things to happen.
Adrien ending up with Marinette is a given, but it's also taken for granted. Every girl with an interest in Adrien is depicted as an antagonist, while Marinette can do whatever she wants in pursuit of Adrien and will still be morally correct. Chloé and Lila, even Kagami to a degree, are villainized for their attraction to Adrien in a way Nathaniel, Luka or Zoé are not with their attraction to Marinette. Chloé and Lila are full-blown villains while Luka and Zoé are some of the most selfless members of the cast. Kagami is aggressive and socially awkward in a way that is used to justify Marinette's initial distrust and dislike of her (in ‘Ikari Gozen’ Alya voices her pity towards Marinette for having to spend time with her) while Nathaniel is just the pitiful bullied loner who’s still a liked member of the class friend group. Girls who want Adrien are bad for trespassing on Marinette’s territory and trying to “steal” something that “belongs” to Marinette.
The writers thinking Adrien belongs to Marinette is also not just subtext. Later in season five, when Marinette and Adrien finally start dating, Marinette even outright states that Adrien “kinda does a little” belong to her when she’s scared that Zoé has a crush on him. The fumbling of the line means that the writers are aware of how toxic it is to consider your partner your property, but they want to include that sentiment anyway, because that’s how they view the situation. Marinette’s boyfriend is her property and other people can’t even look at her property. ‘Emotion’ continues on this increased possessiveness by having the entire Marinette plot happen because she can’t conceive Adrien keeping things from her, because he isn’t allowed privacy from her while Marinette lying to Adrien (or Cat Noir) is a show staple.
This same attitude of Adrien not being allowed to have romantic options outside of Marinette has also been in the fandom for years. Every time a new female character was introduced, there was a worry that she’d “try to steal Adrien from Marinette”. Marinette and Adrien are endgame, the writers know this and the fandom knows this. The characters don't know this, but it doesn't matter because Adrien was already seen as Marinette's (future) boyfriend even back in season one when he barely knew her. And this attitude the writers and audience have is extended to the characters more and more as the show goes on, as almost every single character becomes an Adrinette shipper in support of Marinette in season five, while no one thinks to ask Adrien what he thinks about this. Only once, in ‘Desperada’ did Alya suggest that Adrien could make his own choice on who to date, but it was implied the choice should be Marinette specifically (Marinette smiles at this, while Kagami frowns). The cast is lucky the writers have decided Adrien already is Marinette's, or he’d be really uncomfortable.
Season five episode ‘Pretension’ goes as far with this as having Marinette basically ask Gabriel for permission to be with Adrien, convinced that she and Adrien can be together with no problems if she can just get him to approve of her. And then Gabriel tells her he’s promised Adrien to Kagami. You know, like a piece of property women were treated as before women were allowed to live without a man to control them. The finale then ultimately does have Gabriel agree to hand Adrien over to Marinette by dying and leaving her in charge of Adrien. Just because she uses the privilege to do some things for Adrien’s benefit doesn’t make what happened any less of a patriarchal transaction. In fact, the writers wrote it that way on purpose, with the knight and princess parallels they set up between Marinette and Adrien earlier in the show being something they are prominently proud of (the “reverse fairytale” as they put it). Adrien is the princess the dashing hero Marinette gets to earn with her feats of bravery; he’s handed to her like a piece of property and Marinette is too happy with her acquisition to even be outraged on Adrien’s behalf. And Adrien wasn’t even allowed to know about any of this, instead it gets handled solely between Marinette and Gabriel, like his opinion on the matter didn’t even matter. And why would his opinion matter, since he already is ready to promise himself to Marinette, even as the writers deny him the agency to actually make such a promise.
The goal of making it obvious that Adrien is cool with being objectified like this is probably why they make Adrien so obsessed with Marinette in season five, constantly repeating her name to himself and saying stuff like: “I can’t stop thinking about you” in ‘Pretension’. They need to drive it home to the audience exactly how okay Adrien is with everyone forcing him to be with Marinette. After all, you can’t force the willing. As of ‘Confrontation’, Adrien’s official goals for the future are: “I love Marinette Dupain-Cheng.” I guess, from the perspective of the writers, the childhood dream of wanting to be what his parents wanted from ‘Wishmaker’ wasn’t sad because of Adrien’s lack of agency; it was sad because he wasn’t forsaking all of his personal pursuits for Marinette specifically. As far as the writers are concerned, Adrien should only care about Marinette and nothing else.
This same entitlement is also present in Ladybug and Cat Noir's relationship. Every time Cat Noir is upset with Ladybug, like in Frozer, Glaciator, Syren, The New York Special or even Kuro Neko, they never talk about what caused it. This is especially blatant in cases where Ladybug has wronged Cat Noir personally, like Kuro Neko or the NY Special, where she never has to face up to what she did wrong because Cat Noir comes back because she “needs him”.  Cat Noir will always come back to her without her having to do anything because she is the main character and she says she needs him. He exists for her and her needs. He exists for her; it’s just another way he’s hers.
Speaking of how Adrien is treated affects Marinette, even Adrien’s trauma actually belongs to her in the writing.  I pointed out earlier that Adrien’s trauma shows up when the writers need to put him out of commission, but disappears as soon as he needs to be Marinette’s trophy, but it goes further than just inconsistency. The early seasons spend several episodes on how Adrien is being locked up by his father and unable to hang out with his friends and, between him and Marinette, Marinette is the one shown to be more upset and hurt by this. They don’t do this in every episode, as ‘The Bubbler’ actually does a phenomenal job of making Adrien’s upset actually about him, but the big point in ‘Glaciator’ is that Marinette is so upset that she can’t see Adrien that she accidentally leaves Cat Noir on read so he’s upset about that. Adrien is only upset because he didn’t get attention from Marinette, while Adrien’s literal abuse at the hands of his father is only important because it makes Marinette upset. Even Adrien himself gets in on this action in ‘Conformation’ when the writers go as far as having Adrien chastise himself of not being more worthy of Marinette’s love when his dad is once again busy ruining his life. Even Adrien himself makes his abuse about Marinette; him being abused is bad because it’s inconveniencing Marinette and inconveniencing Marinette makes him less worthy of her.
‘Cat Blanc’ is possibly the worst offender of all, though. This episode should be all about how Adrien is abused by Gabriel, culminating with Gabriel turning him into a monster that destroys the world. And yet, what is the episode actually about? It’s about Marinette. The worst thing that could happen to Adrien is about Marinette. Only Marinette gets to remember or even know about the possibility of Cat Noir getting Akumatized and only Marinette is traumatized by it happening. After all that the writers later dare to use this event that didn’t actually happen anymore, that Adrien doesn’t know about, to justify him giving his powers to Marinette, because he’s “scared of getting Akumatized” when something like that has never happened as far as he knows. But the writers had him reason this way anyway, because apparently the culmination of Marinette’s character development in the show means taking Adrien’s power as her own and then failing to win even with that at her disposal.
Another note about ‘The Bubbler’ that has to be pointed out is that it’s also the first example of Marinette being presented as good for Adrien simply because she treats him better than Gabriel. The final scene of Marinette giving Adrien his best birthday present yet and letting him think it comes from Gabriel is done to show how selfless Marinette is by letting Adrien keep thinking good things about his abuser. This idea that Marinette is morally good simply because she’s better than pond scum Gabriel is also present in the season five finale, where Marinette manipulates, gaslights and keeps important information from her abused slave boyfriend. Marinette is presented as being in the right because at least she didn’t literally control him with a magical geas like Gabriel did and gave him the object with which to do so (while notably not telling him what it does). Marinette will do the bare minimum of not taking literal ownership of Adrien and we’re meant to see her as a paragon of goodness for it, while she still has no respect for Adrien’s autonomy and hasn’t had any since the show started.
The way the Sentimonster “reveal” is handled shows this utter lack of respect for Adrien’s autonomy that the writers, and Marinette by extension, have. The reveal is not for Adrien, but for Marinette, just like every other piece of Adrien has been made to be about Marinette. Marinette gets to know and she gets to decide if Adrien gets to know, and she decides “no”. She will manipulate him and lie to him to keep him happy for herself, she will keep important information about him to herself that he might never find out if anything happens to her, because Adrien is hers and no one else’s and she has the right to make that decision because the world revolves around her because the world of Miraculous was created to be her playground. “Adrien” is just a toy on that playground for Marinette to play with as the writers see fit.
Now we’re coming back to Adrien’s role as the sexy, titillating love interest character that I talked about at the start of this essay. If Marinette granting Adrien the bare minimum of freedoms as a slave while manipulating him “for his own good” is meant to be a good thing, why is Adrien even a slave? Well, outside of the writers wanting to add a plot twist that doesn’t come with any messy plot they’d have to write about characters other than Marinette, Adrien being a slave is also meant to be titillating. What really is magical super slavery than very, very off the wall bondage and power play stuff? The idea that Marinette could rob her love interest of his free will with ease but won’t because she cares about him so much is very empowering in two different ways. It gives Marinette all the power in the relationship and it makes her out to be such a good person that even having ultimate power over another person won’t corrupt her. Adding to that, we have Adrien’s people pleaser abuse victim personality, which makes him fawn over the people he loves. If Marinette ever wanted to have control over Adrien, Adrien would give it to her of his own volition, no need for magical super slavery or unbreakable geases.
As I stated earlier, Marinette is meant to be the point of view main character the audience of teen girls projects themselves onto. So, really, Adrien’s slavery and abuse responses are all about that fantasy of having a cute boy you have all the power over but not needing to use it because the boy is so nice and devoted to you anyway. Adrien really is “perfect”, the perfect object of attraction, a being who technically has free will but whose free will you never have to take into account because he’s been designed and trained to value other people’s wants and needs over his own.
Marinette doesn't literally own Adrien within the story, but the writers make it very clear that they think she should. In fact, in all ways except the literal, she already does.

Okay - a long rant ahead and some explanations.
I would also like to point out that what I'm about to talk about mostly concerns the Christian community and it may not be interesting to anyone else or would just lead to pointless arguments that I don't want to be a part of, so - read at your own discretion after the explanations.
EXPLANATION
Yes, you have probably all noticed that I haven't completely stopped indulging in Miraculous stuff, especially after this post, and the reason is - I am simply enjoying (or have been doing so up till now) the concepts, the fan art and the never used possibilities and lost potential of the show and its characters. Which leads me directly to the second part of this post.
TO THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY WITHIN MIRACULOUS LADYBUG FANDOM
Yesterday, I gave this vid a watch and discovered something I wished I knew from day one of this show.
youtube
Among all the good points, something really struck me, and it was this:
Tumblr media
.... Look.
I know Thomas Astruc is an atheist (or however he defines himself) and that he's a very anti-religious person - but this is downright offensive.
So, what I wanted to bring to attention.... was that this show really isn't just some goofy fantasy x sci-fi mix that doesn't delve into religion or myths - but that that is far from the truth.
Miraculous goes directly into everything and reshapes it to the viewing pleasure of people who have no religious beliefs whatsoever and are, like it's creator, of a mindset that it's all just nonsense, thus disrespecting culture and faith of humongous groups of religious communities.
As an (Orthodox) Christian, I can't talk much about people of other faith, though I know there were also big problems with the Muslim communities. Because of that, I am just going to stick to what I'm capable of concluding.
... You know, we all have the right to believe whatever we want to believe in. If atheistic people don't want to believe in anything, that's their choice. But spitting in the face of absolutely everyone who is of different opinion, especially through a worldwide known show (and directed at kids, to make matters worse) is definitely not alright. We have the right to choose our faith as much as any other individual and absolutely no one should be allowed to say that we should keep to ourselves as some kind of 'minority' and let the 'majority' take over, because they're right since there's a bigger number of them.
Speaking up about something negative within a certain religious community that affects everyone is one thing - telling them to shut up altogether is another.
If you think I am blowing things out of proportion with this.... do a little research on Astruc's X (formerly Twitter). I kid you not when I tell you that I have practically quoted him in the last line of the paragraph above my previous one. Amanda does the same in her video as well.
But what am I really getting at here with this post?
I wanted to send out a warning to fellow Christians that are watching the show and to boost up the awareness to this problem.
Literally... all the problems I've been having with the show for the past two years come down to this. The way the characters are treated, the direction the show is taking... everything. If I had known about the creators' opinions on this topic I would have seen disappointment a mile away, and it never would have affected me as bad as it did.
I stopped drawing for a whole year for crying out loud! And I've seen during that period that many people are absolutely unaware of what is lurking behind the curtains. The show is meant to take you to a certain point of viewing the world the way its creators believe are right, and it's not going to stop doing that anytime soon. What's more, I believe (and I am talking from experience here, from other disappointments in my past) that things are only going to get worse.
The Love Square is bait. The prolonged plot is there to keep the viewers interested. Heck, Astruc confirmed that publicly - it's needed to exist in order to keep the show successful and running. He thinks he's doing a good job at it, and, to be fair - business-wise, he is. That doesn't speak about the quality of the story though. But that's another topic I'm not going to bring up here...
I just wanted to give a heads-up to peeps, who do have an incorporated belief system in their lives, to not get swindled. It's not innocent fun, and that's going to get more obvious as time passes and the creators get more freedom to express their opinions.
I'm sorry if you've invested yourselves in this show as much as I have. I truly believed there wasn't another system directed against religion somewhere in its shadows and that it was a safe watch - however, it isn't. If you do have a life dedicated to something this show is against, all I can tell you is - re-evaluate what you're watching here.
For all the rest of you.... I suppose I have nothing to say. If you read all the way up to here and still disagree with me... well, feel free to do it. But I have no discussion to be made with you.

Lemme rant about these 2 fictional beings for a min.. .
Felix intentions/motive is soemthing that reeeally got me making essays, no books about. I feel he's an anti-hero character. Not full on villain, because the show normally shows a villain type character to always be seen by the viewer in a bad light. Ex. Lila we see her even still a bich when no one's there. But with felix when he's alone (looking at the portrait) or with his mom, we see a glimmer of his soft side. I'm thinking, he doesn't hate adrien. He's just an angry boi, probably gives adrien tough love and is a lil mean to him because he doesn't like how spineless adrien is. Especially with them being ""twins"" it's kinda like he hates seeing another version of himself being soo weak.
SO after seeing adriens mom in the basement, why wouldn't he like..save adrien? Whether that's just helping adri getting control of himself again (rings shenanigans) or reveal who hawkmoth is?? He literally has the ability to change the game completely with him knowing who hawkmoth is and the open casket lol, but of course plot wise it won't be so simple. I also don't think he trusts ladybug cuz he won't be understood, being that he might be a sentimonster and that's hard to believe, and she'll just demand the miraculous back assume he's just pure villain. But he needs that peacock miraculous for their freedom.
Quite the pickle.. So ye I hope they kinda team up a lil, maybe felix finding out he's chat noir and that'd be dope.

As a lesbian, being told by straight people whenever two girls get intimate only to be chalked up to just "gal pals", its not surprising for them to think they can have their cake and eat it too with julerose since they can get away with not alienating their homophobic viewers by stating in text that theyre just friends. i dont know about french media policy, but its telling when i could just watch any recent cartoons that actually promise on their delivery over this show in 2021
From what I’ve looked up about the subject, France seems to be growing more tolerant to LGBT rights, with several laws being passed to show it
Transgenderism was declassified as a mental illness in 2009 in France, four years before it was in the US, and even for the latter, it requires a diagnosis of gender dysphoria to physically transition.
Transgender people in France have also been able to legally change their gender without any surgery or legal diagnosis since 2017.
Same-Sex marriage was legalized across the country in 2013, two years before it was legal everywhere in the US.
In 2019, French schools started to crack down on anti-LGBT bullying, with a hotline being set up for students to use.
To say that Astruc doesn’t think France is ready for a gay couple in Miraculous Ladybug is highly absurd.

Yashahime meta/analysis
Will Kirinowa become a thing (part 1)?
So after watching the last episode of Yashahime I decided to write my own meta/analysis about who the main couple from Yashahime will be. And before antis will jump at my throat, I will say that I don’t condone pedophilia in any way, shape or form. But just like Sesshomaru and Rin, I think Kirinmaru and Towa will become a couple in the future or at the end of Yashahime (when Towa will be of age). Below I will explain why I think so. 1) Their first appearance:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So Towa first appears in episode 1 of the series and the first shot of her it's her back. Then in the next shot her face, it's obscured to the viewers, with a small point/circle of light on her right cheek, while her left cheek it's illuminated by the light. Also, she appears in a submissive position (kneeling and with her hands tied behind her back). As for Kirinmaru, the first shot of him (in episode 7) it's sitting on a chair like a throne. When his face, it's shown, the first thing it's shown, it's his mask which covers his face, with the exception of his left eye which it's like a black hole. In the last shot, his left eye, it's shown, with the left side of his face covered in shadow, while the right side (which represents his true self... more on that in part 2) it's illuminated by the moonlight. Also something to point that here, it's the fact that Kirinmaru made his official appearance during a night with a crescent moon. The crescent moon being the symbol of the dog demon clan. So when they are first introduced, they are in opposite position to each other. Also it’s a coincidence that Kirinmaru’s left eye was the only one shown through most of season one, while Towa’s left eye was the place where the silver pearl was and will start to glow when she used the power of the pearl? As opposite to Kirinmaru’s first shot of his left eye which seemed like a black hole. 2) The eye color:  So, according to the color wheel, the opposite color to green it's red. Kirinmaru does have green eyes while Towa does have red eyes. This is another element that puts them in contrast to each other. Coincidence or foreshadowing? 3) The chinese astrology: So, according to Chinese zodiac’s relationships, certain animal signs are highly compatible and harmonize well together, while others find it impossible to get along with each other no matter how hard they try. One of the incompatible pair it's the dragon and the dog. So in episode 5, when Myoga was talking about Kirinmaru, he appeared as being depicted as a dragon (in Myoga's flashback...which was more like a mural picture than an actual representation).   And as of the last episode of season 1, it was pretty confirmed that Kirinmaru's true form it's that of a dragon. 4) First meeting in the feudal era Their first meeting it’s rather peculiar, to say the least. So first of all I would like to bring up the fact that this is the first episode since he appeared in the series, that find Kirinmaru outside in the broad daylight, unlike the other episodes where he was seen in a dark room. So Towa and co. are chasing the last loser (sorry, I meant peril),Totetsu, who runs to seas to get help from his superior, Kirinmaru. Of course Kirinamru is not happy about the uninvited guests, so after he uses a psionic attack on his underling and threatens him, his underling makes himself scarce pretty fast. As soon as his underling it's out of the picture, his attention it's focused on the girls.
Tumblr media
Well, and this is where it gets a little bit nonsensical, to say the least. Kirinmaru uses another psionic attack to knock down the girls from Takechiyo's back and Moroha still ask him who he is.  😑 I don't see the sense of this question since he attacked them. I mean it's pretty obviously at this point who he is. Well, after this moment that made no sense to me, whatsoever, Towa asks him about the dream butterfly (since in the last episode Konton told them that the dream butterfly was designated by Kirinmaru... and Towa took it at face value, no questions asked). Of course, Kirinmaru doesn't oblige with a reply, so Towa uses her best weapon for feudal era....talk-no-jutsu (because this helped her so much in the past 😒), trying to convince Kirinmaru return the dreams and the sleep to Setsuna.
Tumblr media
So I think every watcher out there had this face when Towa used talk-no-jutsu on Kirinmaru. Followed by an argument between the girls where Setsuna and Moroha didn't want to engage Kirinmaru because there was no reward for them. Up to this point only Towa wanted to solve the matter of the dream butterfly. Kirinmaru, who, at some point had enough of their bullshit, challenge them to a fight (due to the prophecy), even if Towa it's reluctant to fight him (due to her pacifist nature). Moroha and Setsuna are taken out pretty easily, while Towa it's the last one to face him and manage to leave him with a souvenir, until she it's also defeated. I won’t enter in details regarding the fight between Sesshomaru and Kirinmaru because is not important (maybe only the final of their fight). What I found strange about this episode is that Kirinmaru mostly acts like a teacher rather than an enemy. During the fight, he comments on the girls's weaknesses and uses very weak attacks (compared to what he uses in episode 24). 5) Osamu Kirin
Tumblr media
So because of the fact that Towa always got in fights, while in the modern era, she changed schools often. Osamu Kirin it's the goofball English teacher (and homeroom teacher) from the christian academy Saint Gabriel (Saint Gabriel it's a saint in both the orthodox and catholic religion and the both of them are religious christian minorities in Japan, so yeah....), the last school where Towa got enrolled before she left in the feudal era. Their encounters are pretty brief. The first time, when Towa arrives late at her classes, he keeps her after school and say something pretty strange to her: When in Rome, do as the romans do.  Meaning that if you are in an unfamiliar place, you should behave like how the people behave there. And the second time when he tells Towa to stop daydreaming and to focus in classes. The first one was an useful advice for Towa since she went to the feudal era and had problems adapting there. And also he was the only teacher who didn't call Towa's adoptive parents to talk to them about the fact that she was late in her first day at school due to getting into a fight. Pretty strange right?  🤔 Everything seems normal with this teacher up until to episode 23.
Tumblr media
So in this episode, Osamu Kirin goes to the airport (I wonder why... though I may have an idea that I will bring up in part 2) where he met with Sota Higurashi and his daughter, Mei, who came to pick up Moe. After asking about Towa, Osamu Kirin asks about the grim comet out of nowhere. Sota asks him where it's the comet because he can't see it. So this leads to my theory: Osamu Kirin it's Kirinmaru in the modern era. The first hint would be their names which are similar. Then the fact that only Osamu Kirin can see the grim comet, but a normal person can’t. Lastly, in both English dubbed and Japanese version Osamu Kirin and Kirinmaru do have the same voice actor (also in Miraculous Ladybug, in English version Gabriel Agreste and Hawkmoth have the same voice actor or Vergil and Urizen from Devil May Cry 5 and in the first given example they were the same person). And I also believe that there, it's a telepathic connection between Osamu Kirin and Kirinmaru. Like Wolverine in X-Men: Days Of Future Past type of thing. Also, I believe, there it's a time loop (more on that in part 2). So I think this analysis/ meta t's pretty long already so I will stop here for now. The next points that I want to bring it up will appear in part 2. So, see you all in part 2. 😌

Rant of the Droid: Miraculous Ladybug Season 3: Love Eater & Miracle Queen
Hello, people from Tumblr! How have they been in all this time? As always, I hope very well ...
Why honestly I am not.
The reason for that is that I recently saw two disgusting chapters that almost make me eye cancer.
Tumblr media
Yes, like that!
As you will guess from the title, the chapters I saw early Love-Eater and Miracle Queen, both from the Miraculous Ladybug series and corresponding to the end of the third season.
But before I go straight to the point, I will say the first thing that must be said: If you, reader, hate the character of Chloé Bourgeois or have recently begun to hate her for the chapters they transmitted and think that all this text is to rant in Against her, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but you've come to the wrong place. There is a wonderful little arrow on the upper left side of your browser that will take you out of my post.
Second, if you are going to comment on my post, let it be only on the condition that you agree with my posture. Even I know that this is extremist, but honestly, I don't want to and I don't have the energy to argue, just to give my point of view. Now, having said the above I start with my post to rightly discharge my anger.
First, the designs of the two Akumas are simply horrible. We have Love-Eater, having a disturbing design, but not in a good way, but seeing it throughout its chapter makes you uncomfortable. That and that in addition, its power is really pathetic. Miracle Queen better not to speak, in just a stick of accessories from the Akuma Queen Wasp. Astruc, old man, put more effort to Akumas designs, by God! This is just a scam of the greats, their designs are flat and do not impress at all.
Second, the two chapters, although they have a certain continuity, the truth be told, they have a narrative too rushed. Not only that, the chapters feel without substance, lacking in soul, they feel like filler chapters when they should have been more shocking chapters, since they are the ones that give the closing to the third season. On the other hand, the first appearance of Dragon Bug and Snake Noir had no more relevance than that of appearing as fillers, their presence had no impact. In addition, the action feels soporific and well below the level to which viewers are accustomed. Miracle Queen promised to be an Akuma of terrifying powers and in the end, it was only a mockery, since they defeated her in such an insultingly easy way; Only one more Akuma remained from the pile.
Third, and this is where I am going to download all my anger. Basically what they have done was destroyed the development of Chloé Bourgeois. We had little, but it was development after all, where we could see a slightly more human side in her. And with Miracle Queen, they make it a very empty and flat villain. In part, I understand Chloé's frustrations and the motivations for which she acted like this, but even with those, it is quite notorious and irritating that writers have treated the character like that. For a moment, when Hawk Moth convinces Chloé, we see the blonde doubt for a few seconds, for later and from nothing decide to ally with him. That felt too rushed and without context.
Honestly, I am increasingly convinced that they did this on purpose so that the fandom would hate the character even more. And more and more I think that Astruc is really burned to see people in the fandom that they hold Chloé in high regard. Because it is not enough for him to hate her, we all have to share his feeling of contempt so that he feels fulfilled.
Nice try Astruc. Your plan worked ... halfway, but it worked. It worked because I have seen comments from people who have already hated Chloé again and even their hatred increased much more after such a horrible chapter. But, and this is good for me, your plan also failed, since there are people, annoyed like me, of your questionable decisions and how you have ruined the development of my favorite blonde.
Because despite everything, there are some who still love the character in spite of everything. Indeed, we know that Chloé's actions are her responsibility and her alone. But it is her responsibility within her world. Here, in the real world, you and your team are responsible for burying her development. Astruc, dude, I don't ask you to turn Chloé into a Marinette 2.0 or a Rose 2.0, I'm asking for a development to become a decent person! Only that, you only had that job and did it that bad way.
Which brings me to this point: you and your team of screenwriters, with these two chapters, have just shown me that they no longer know which direction to take their work. Each chapter that premiered this season was a chapter that was highly criticized, each chapter contained its good doses of salt in the fandom.
Dude, realize that you and your team of screenwriters are doing things wrong! And the sooner they recognize it, the better they can correct the wrongs that have been sent!
I have reached a point where I no longer know what to do with your series. If I continue seeing it with the vague hope that now you will do justice to Chloé and in general to all your characters equally or if you will continue to make mistake after error that the only thing they generate in the fandom frustrations everywhere.
Do you know something? It is not to show off, but I consider myself a fairly patient person. However, as you will guess, like everyone else, my patience has a limit. And with these two chapters, I have run out of patience ... Not only patience but also the hope that they would do something significant with my favorite blonde. Well, in part they did, but they did the opposite of what I expected.
As a fan of Chloé Bourgeois, I feel scammed. I feel insulted and in fact, those two chapters are an insult to my intelligence and intellect. Basically, it is as if Thomas Astruc had made me a sleeve cut, showed me the middle finger, spit in my face, insulted my parents and not satisfied with that, to kick my dog. Those two chapters, especially the last minutes of Miracle Queen, where they completely destroy my favorite blonde were the most frustrating minutes of my life.
Throughout my life, I have seen many series, and this is the first time it happens to me that I feel cheated.
Considering the spoilers we have from the fourth season, the end of Miracle Queen is nothing surprising. At the moment there is evidence that Luka and Kagami will be akumatized again and I am already imagining the reason: Adrien and Marinette will break their courtship with these two. If my prediction comes true, it would re-confirm my theory that they no longer know how to handle the series or the relationships and dynamics of the characters. That at the end of the fourth season we will know which ship will win: if the Lukanette or the Adrinette.
And damn, we all know that the Adrinette is going to win, and we know it from the “Origins” chapter.
We do not even know the name or the real appearance of the new Queen Bee, but I am already beginning to hate that character since the most certain thing is that the development that Chloé needed, they will give it to her in a tray of silver. That's what bothers me the most when I think of the new Queen Bee. They would be telling me that it is her and not Chloé, the character I must support. Because she is sweet and not evil
Already with Marinette herself, Rose and Mylene we already had enough with sweet girls.
I insist again: what was the use of seeing all those scenes where they showed a deeper and more human side of Chloé if, in the end, they were going to turn her into a villain, what its I least wanted?
Astruc, why did you give me expectations that way, to destroy them in such a cruel way? I would have preferred you to leave Chloé like a flat brat and devoid of personality as it was in the first chapters of the first season instead to make this tremendous crap.
All the characters, at the end of the episode, have their moments of happiness and hope, all, including Mayor Bourgeois and Audrey (that, let's face it, that part of the script was taken from the back). Everyone except Chloé.
Chloé fans are waiting for difficult times. More Chloé salt post. More anti-Chloé post. More fanfics and more fanarts where they do bashing her. More people who will try to convince us to hate the character. More people who will leave us negative comments when we upload fanfic or fanarts where we just want to express our support and pleasure to her character.
I have already lost all interest in the fourth season. If it succeeds or fails, I don't give a damn. What I am going to do will be to look for summaries, in order to save myself twenty precious minutes of my life, and thus not waste them in a series that is no longer worth it to me.
Tumblr media
Rankakiu in every chapter of the fourth season XD.
There is something I have to grant them. And they said that the end of the third season would have us crying in mucus. And you know they really did it with me. I have cried ... but from frustration and anger to see what they have done.
Tumblr media
There is no more perfect GIF to express what I feel right now XD.
Well, that would be all from me. If you agree with me, do not hesitate to comment, fave or reblog this post.
Now yes, my frustrations have been released.
Greetings
Rankakiu

Reasons why I wish "Backwarder" and "Stormy Weather 2" had been two parters (Part One)
First off, let me start by saying this is no means a critique of the writers/creative team/animators of the show. They are slaves to the production schedule and Disney's demands just as much as other show writers. If you're outright complaining that show writers are writing "terrible" or "simplistic" arcs or animation is basic, but then turning around and complaining when the wait between episodes is longer then a few days, then you need to rethink how you appreciate media.
That being said, I wish Disney had given the ML team time to fully develop these episodes more, because they both would have been awesome two parters.
We'll start with Backwarder:
First off, Valentine's Day special! You have to observe that with some kind of treat. A two parter episode would be that.
This episode had a lot of build up - establishing Fu and Marianne's backstory, Marinette and Fu's grandparent/grandchild esque relationship, AND Marinette's latest Adrien problem. That's a lot of plots to build up to in a twenty minute episode! A two parter would allow the first episode to be mostly build up, with the climax and action in the last third, and then a full episode devoted to the action, saving the day, and resolution of the personal story arcs.
Fuller backstory for each storyline, especially Fu and Marianne's. What were they running from? When did Fu return? Why did he wait so long, besides just "the miracle box must be protected."
Kagami could have had lines
Marianne was akumatized because she felt 50plus years of hope break all at once - that's what Hawkmoth said. That's some VERY powerful emotions, and someone who we can infer may have been a miraculous holder at one point. In my opinion, this should have been one of the most powerful and difficult akumas to beat, if we are going from both a emotions based powers perspective and a story telling perspective. Marianne wanted to make up for Fifty Years of lost hope. Her powers should have been reflective of that, and her motives should have been grander/clearer. We know she's "stealing time" by sending things back, but why? What's the pay off, what is the long term risk? We've seen time manipulation before - Alia stole time from people to go back in time, and when she did, they straight up vanished. Chat Noir essentially died, and it was impactful to viewers and Marinette. And then she succeeded in going back! This was all over a watch - you telling me 50 years of heartbreak all at once couldn't match that?
The problem is it COULD, her powers could have gone so much further, but not within the twenty two minutes allotted. In a two parter, we could have had time for Backwarder to get her powers, to really bring about some ruin and destruction, to maybe come closer than any other akuma thus far to getting the Miraculous a/o defeating our heroes and destroying Paris. (Maybe she is pulling them through a time warp; maybe she actually does succeed in sending them back and Chat Noir and Ladybug have to fight and save this akuma in a time not their own, maybe with a younger Fu's unwitting help.) We could have seen our heroes fail the first time or two they battle, really cementing how difficult this fight is, before reconvening to talk strategy and coming out on top.
From the love square/character development perspective, this would have been a great two parter because Marinette and Adrien could have been set up as more distinct parallels to Fu and Marianne. (Especially if they went back in time or even if Chat Noir found out Backwarders motives) Both teens, especially Marinette, the champion of doing whats right, could empathize with Marianne's desire to remain and fight. But Marinette is also the one to caution their identities, putting the miraculous first, as Fu does. This split parallel could have added to Marinette's arc, as she begins to consider shades of grey, no win scenarios, and also following your heart, or putting the Miraculous first. Chat would also have a great deal of empathy for Backwarder - can you imagine if he had heard the full story? That this akuma had once possibly been a miraculous holder, and lost her chance at love because they put the miracle box above themselves? It could be a contention point between the two current heroes, but it also could have been a bonding moment, when they both consider just what they might lose, especially by keeping their identies a secret. It would likely reaffirm Adrien's refusal to give up on ladybug (which could be shown nicely in an episode with Kagami - maybe she asks about how his unrequited crush is going?) while also pushing Marinette to consider the idea of revealing themselves in the future.
More Kwami time. I saw Wayzz and Naroo and hoped we would get some Tikki- Plagg or Platt-Wayzz interaction.
More "Hawkmoth in the Train Bathroom" as we were deprived a comedic "are you done yet" delivery interrupting Hawkmoths villainous punning.
BACKGROUND/WORLDBUILDING OF PAST MIRACULOUS HOLDERS, FU AND THE MIRACLE BOX
Bonding/development between Chat and LB as they genuinly struggle to defeat this villian while dealing with their own "lost time" for their loved ones.
Kagami could have had LINES
Nitpicking, but the whole "going to the royal wedding" thing could have been fleshed out, like, why are the Agreste's invited? Why did Gabriel, who still seems pretty anti-public and also hyped focused on Hawkmoth stuff, accept the invitation?
Possibility of Carapace, or even Rena or QB, being asked to helped, or even mentioned as possibilities by LB or CN. I for one would love to see more of Fu interacting with both Adrien/CN (chinese tutor, new photographer for modeling, anything) as well as Nino. Especially Nino.
More time to make a story that ties in to the Valentine's day parallel as well as furthering character arcs, development, worldbuilding a/o plot.
Ok. That's all for this one, I'll explain Stormy Weather 2 at a later date.

Justice for Chloe Bourgeois went viral to the Bashers on Twitter by Making Her Bully in Public to Marinette Dupain-Cheng. YouTuber was Slammed to Her Rant with Thomas Astruc for an Insult.
PARIS, FRANCE -- Around the 4th week of March in 2020, some of these bashers are petitioning & boycotting the fictional character to Justice at the College Francoise Dupont in Paris City. She's on rival to Marinette by simply to bully her on the spot in class.
The actual basher reactions of #JusticeForChloeB, was spreaded like wildfires in viral (for a different languages):

#JusticeForChloeB #MiraculousLadybug My opinions on this: (please be respectful, don't insult Astruc!) DISCLAIMER Astruc is THE author. If he says Chloé's irredeemable, fine. As a mere viewer & fan though, I feel there're inconsistencies. He wanted to show us A, he showed us B.

I've never seen an episode of Miraculous, but can you shut the fuck up about Chloe? #JusticeForChloeB

March 25, 2020
#JusticeForChloeB Okay, to the people insulting Thomas, you are taking this way too far. Yes, Chloe deserved better (I don’t care what anyone else says, ladybug should feel bad for what she did to chloe), but attacking Thomas isn’t going to get you anywhere.
— Austin Holden (@AustinHolden15)
March 25, 2020
#JusticeForChloeB it's sad to see all these people on this tag attacking everyone and being like "lmao fuck ya'll" to even the reasonable Chloe fans. You're no better than the people who attack Thomas for how he writes his characters if you go on to attack people in the tag.
— Kay (@GuaranteedBad)
March 25, 2020
What the fuck is this #JusticeForChloeB ??! Guys, tell me, is that your story? Is that YOUR cartoon? Are you scriptwriter? No. You are toxic people. You are the bad side of this community. You make us shame. You are kid. You know nothing Jean-Michel snow.

— Miraculous Fan Officiel (@MiraculousFan6)
March 25, 2020
Thomas all u do is justifying your decisions by downgrading anyone who tries to question anything u do. There was room for Chloe's development to go either way, towards positive change or remaining stuck in her old ways. Making her unredeemable was a choice #JusticeForChloeB

March 24, 2020
U say we're just too used to cliches when MLB entire plot and characters are also build on cliche tropes and formulas. Also, making an unpopular decision when it comes to character development doesn't mean your writing is good, unexpected or surprising #JusticeForChloeB

March 24, 2020
You're only sacrificing a female character development (something common with this show) as a poorly attempt of subverting expectations. There was a famous example recently of a popular show that went down that same route and we all know how that turned out... #JusticeForChloeB
— 𝑡𝘩𝑒 𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑡𝘩𝑒 𝑙𝑎𝑑𝑦𝑏𝑢𝑔⁷ #⃝ 🐞 (@jooluvshye)

Again, it was a choice and we're not happy about it. Just so you know. You're not going to see this since you blocked me for some reason but I'm giving you (and anyone who cares enough to read) a piece of my mind anyway. Stay at home, everyone lol #JusticeForChloeB

In his statement to Thomas Astruc (Creator & Director himself of Miraculous Ladybug), during the pandemic event of CoViD19:
Currently under spam attack from fans with hashtag #JusticeForChloeB, involving a lot of insults, while I'm working myself to death in order for the show not to suffer from quarantine. They don't even realize they're displaying the same toxic behavior as Chloé's. Oh, the irony.
— Thomas Astruc (@Thomas_Astruc)
March 24, 2020
We didn't rewrite anything. That's part of her arc. The disappointment you felt is the same Ladybug felt. Mission accomplished from a writing point of view. I fail to see how that this makes me similar to Chloé, whereas bullying someone online is clearly something Chloé would do.
— Thomas Astruc (@Thomas_Astruc)
March 24, 2020
If Thomas was planning to it's Redemption Arc to Chloe, when the Bashers wanted:
The more I'm spammed about Chloé, the more it proves we were accurate with this character. Some fans' inability to see the toxicity in her behavior, or excuse it, is the best reason to keep on developing Chloé as we did.
— Thomas Astruc (@Thomas_Astruc)
March 24, 2020
Chloe's arc is about someone who refuses to change and acknowledge her mistakes, and thinks she's right to behave as if she was superior to others. She disappoints those who wants to see the best in people, and believe that people can change if given the oportunity.
— Thomas Astruc (@Thomas_Astruc)
March 31, 2020
Redemption is something that is shown by all other characters through akumatization experience. Chloe's purpose of the show is to warn about the people who willingly refuse it. Chloe redemption is a fan trope.
— Thomas Astruc (@Thomas_Astruc)
March 31, 2020
Justifying Chloé's behavior by behaving the same way IRL proves that we were right to build it this way. In the show, there will never be what I call in french, "une prime aux salauds". It saddens me you're unable to see it.
— Thomas Astruc (@Thomas_Astruc)

The Virtual Celebrity speaks out on our sister YouTube affiliate, she did a rant very badly for insulting to Thomas and boycotting to her suspect on Chloe together. She insisted to take action by forcing everyone to block and report on both (even filing to the FBI), for the message of it's Twitter Bashers to themselves. Bashers & 4chan's /co/ doesn't care about Chloe Bourgeois, but not the Voice Actor herself (known as Marie Chevalot).
Some multiple reports was sent anonymously to the Principal upon bullying with Marinette in this school. While the Creator himself (Thomas Astruc), possibly goes for the death threats and insultance. Thomas was possibly planned to resign at the end of the latest season for this year of Miraculous Ladybug, when these negative bashers replies himself by taking his chances to comply for a change with a protest, petition and anger situations of troll in public.
The French Court was spoken between Chloe Bourgeois & Thomas Astruc, as violated by the school law with indefinitely expelled at the College Francoise Dupont. Individually, she will be sentenced to 2 years in prison as amended by the Republic Act #10627 & Senate Bill #2793: Section 2c on Both or Anti-Bullying Act of 2013; with the fine charges of EUD900.
And Thomas was also sentenced for a Libel to 12 years in prison, under the Republic Act #10175 or Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012: Section 4-4. The fines can be charged to EUD9,000 for a Reclusion Temporal. Optionally on both suspects, expect on both for the Republic Act #7659 or An Act to Impose the Death Penalty on Certain Heinous Crimes: Section 4 as a bonus punishment.
Parole will be officially denied permanently, during and after it's released from bail and the court with or without the fines when they corrected the fault on both. It's best to both of them... will be hero-less.

One thing that pisses me off not just about the miraculous fandom but modern fandoms is fans inability to consume long overarching stories.
Like so many people are complaining about how long the reveal is taking or why haven't certain characters outgrown this trait yet or why is this character arc botched or abandoned. Like guys we just got the confirmation this show will be 7 seasons long PLUS like 3 tv specials. We're only roughly halfway through the series.
Once the reveal happens half the tension in the show is gone! I'm not saying leave the reveal till season 7 and make us wait 9 years this isn't HIMYM but miraculous is not a fast paced story. It's a long haul story. I just wish more fans would be patient. Miraculous is in the extremely fortunate and rare position that it will have a conclusive end and not be suddenly cancelled. That was and still is a huge problem for shows and cartoons with dedicated fans but networks pull the plug for stupid ass reasons.
So miraculous fans please chill the fuck out on things not resolving right away. We still have 78+ episodes plus the tv specials. If we get the end to certain things now it'll be so boring.
I think the concept of Instant Gratification describes the issue with many modern fandoms today. I hate to sound like I'm anti-technology, but the constant stream of quick and short bursts of entertainment allowed by the information age has made people more impatient. It's not about waiting for the climax to get a deeper sense of satisfaction, it's about getting that instant gratification right this instant. It's why one-shot fanfics are all over the place, when multi-chapter stories used to be just as common and popular, if not even more so, and it’s also why people are less willing to read a fic that’s still a work in progress. It's why people refuse to watch Youtube video essays even as they leave comments on the topic based on the title and thumbnail alone because, while they couldn't be assed to watch a 20-minute video (let alone an hour long one), they sure can spend that time calling the Youtuber names and making arguments the video actually already refutes. It's why a lot of online arguments happen only because one party read nothing but the first and maybe the last paragraph of someone's post and skipped all the explanation for their point of view (if I've ignored an counter argument for one of my posts, it was either because I missed it or because said counter argument did this. I have attention deficit issues so I do genuinely forget responses sometimes, but I'm also not writing a second essay for someone who's proven to me they won't read it).
Of course, it's only by constantly consuming only fast-paced content that you can become this impatient. People have different ideas about stories based on what stories they have encountered in the past.
Another thing that influences the Miraculous fandom in particular is that, while I love to show off exactly how much Miraculous has done to build up the overarching plotlines, Miraculous isn't really a show that's about a single story. It's easy to understand why people think it is one though: there's one main villain, we keep discovering more about the mythology, one of the main plot threads is the romantic relationship between the leads and singular episodes and plot elements tend to get payoff later. What is the purpose of a show if not to progress the story? Because the heroes aren't getting closer to defeating Gabriel or getting together, people think that the story isn't accomplishing anything.
I'll do a comparison to illustrate why these things aren't as clear-cut signs of a continuous storyline as people think. In the Spider-Man comics, you can pick any issue up and the chances are that the villain will be a part of Spider-Man's already established Rogues Gallery, who's back for more after who knows how many defeats, and those past defeats might even get referenced in callbacks to previous issues. It's also very possible that Peter and Mary Jane's relationship is the central focus with them not being together yet, having relationship problems or even having broken up (in really old issues the girl might be Gwen Stacy and short-term options have also always been available for romantic entanglements). Does this mean Spider-Man is a continuous story where the only point is that all the villains get put away for good and Peter and MJ live happily ever after? No, it doesn't. Spider-Man is designed to go on indefinitely, so there's no clear ending point. So, what is the point of Spider-Man then, if there is no Ending?
It used to be the single issue, because comic books used to have every issue be a stand-alone story about the hero and their supportive cast. These days it's more every three-to-six issues, because superhero comics are written to have short story arcs that can then be collected into trade paperbacks. A superhero series is not a single story; it's a series that functions as a story engine, meaning the series can generate several shorter stories where the hero helps fix a problem or solve a mystery.
In the superhero genre a villain will never get killed off or removed from stories permanently as long as the writers think they can still come up with stories to tell about them. The hero's romantic life will never be completely smooth sailing unless the writer is using other things to ramp up the stakes. Everything always allows for there to be another adventure.
I think the huge success of Avatar: the Last Airbender made people think that a series that is a single story is always superior to a series with multiple shorter plots. When I was liveblogging Sailor Moon, a viewer offered to give me a list of all the non-filler episodes because they genuinely thought I'd feel like I was wasting time on the show otherwise. This attitude is simply not based on fact. It's not fair to compare Miraculous Ladybug to Avatar, because they're both setting up to do completely different things. Miraculous Ladybug is trying to become a brand, like Batman or Spider-Man. It is part of the "Zag Heroes" lineup, a series of French-created superhero franchises to compete in the America-centric superhero market. This challenge is good for the genre, because Marvel and DC have started resembling each other more and more as these companies stew in their old ideas and copy everything that worked for the other one. The superhero genre needs new blood.
Also, Avatar: the Last Airbender first became popular by doing episodic plots for almost the entirety of the first season because it's actually not a wise choice to expect the audience to be willing to commit to a story that'll only give payoff later when working with an untested IP. Very often shows with longer story arcs start with the episodic format to hook people first, and sometimes the more linear plot is introduced specifically because the audience for the show is now expected to be both dedicated enough and older and capable of keeping up. Because, here's the thing: you can't expect little kids to remember every episode or even every character you've introduced in your show. I'm not sure if people are ready to hear that but I'm throwing it out there anyway. Kids are not dumb, they can understand more complex storylines, but many kids are still training their memory, so they might not remember the details of complex storylines that go on for too long.
This is why the news that Miraculous Ladybug's fourth season was going to have a recommended viewing order originally had me concerned. Miraculous is being branded for kids. The plot requiring too much skill in memorizing story details will make it less accessible to kids and might put those two additional seasons at risk. However, it seems that the "constantly changing status quo" concept of Truth, Lies and Gang of Secrets was a fluke and the evolution of the show is more subtle, so they might not be cutting the amount of episodes for those final seasons because the show is getting too complicated for kids to follow all the important details.
Regardless, Miraculous Ladybug being an adventure cartoon TV show instead of a comic book or a more cheaper-to-produce TV drama does mean that Miraculous Ladybug isn’t expected to go on for decades like a superhero comic or a soap opera. Because of this, it can have evolution and changes and even a planned ending. The show is expected to end at some point, even by the people making money off of it, mostly because making a cartoon like this indefinitely costs a lot of money, and kids’ adventure shows tend to see a decrease in returns if they go on for too long.

ML’s Love Letter To Horror Movie Fans
I was rewatching Horrificator and Nino’s insistence on filming through a potential tragedy reminded me of that guy from Diary of the Dead, that guy from Cloverfield, etc..  That had me paying closer attention to how much this episode pays homage to Horror/Monster movie tropes. I was cackling so much, I decided to make a post to spread the hilarity.
A huge thanks goes to TV Tropes, where you can find the description of each stereotype.  You can also click my headers for a direct link to each.  There is an existing list of tropes from this episode that I found halfway through doing my own list.  I couldn’t find an entry for every trope so the ones that are not linked I came up with myself.  Also, I didn’t include every single trope.
Thanks go to Miraculous, les aventures de Ladybug et Chat Noir (aka, Miraculous Ladybug) for gaining even more of my respect and for giving some mad love to us horror fans.  Enjoy!
We’re Making a Horror Movie Inside the Horror Movie
As seen in Diary of the Dead
wherein the dog dies

Tragic Monster
tbh this happens in EVERY ML ep
Tumblr media

which brings up a good point
WHERE WAS SHE HIDING?!
Tumblr media
It’s An Homage! (and not much else)
Oh, the akuma is gooing them up in eggs, ala Alien!
there must be a reason
like maybe she’s using them as scare fuel or--

other than to mildly inconvenience Chloe

Back to the progress report!
Hey guys! I was out in the entire February. The reason is because I was busy doing my MMD video, Ash's vacation. It's already up and has 4k views already. It is the fastest gain I've ever seen on my videos. Last month, I didn't have anything else back up to date because of very hard work on that video. Since I posted my MMD video over a week ago, I started going back to do Yuki's story and recently showcasing Anti-Aliasing methods because I had an overdue post for SGSSAA and wanted to state about RAYMMD that anti-aliasing is pretty challenging to look better. So since I just decide to do another progress report again after for a while, I'll list things that I plan to do. Pretty Rhythm models: I did plan to so Serenon models from the 3ds game, and I want to start with the stages first, but the stages are in a more complicated situation to where it has a lot of complex methods to look great. Some greyscale objects are colored in the game individually, and some textures looks wrong and it's confusing to me. The light bloom for example has a weird texture pattern that MMD can't do. It is quarter of the texture and it is mirrored inside the texture in a game and looking at the model, but even using blender and convert it to pmx, it doesn't look right. It looks duplicate and there are a lot of those. The mapping effects on textures are also complicated to look right for MMD. I decide to skip that project until someone else has a better method of conversion. So eventually, I will start with Serena, and Kanon. I decide to include them and Kaname as a package and should be out in Spring. Doing the character models is more easier to do than stages. If you are wondering, you can play Pretty Rhythm games on Citra and used it. Because of the new GPU update, it plays pretty smoothly now. Yuki's Story: I do have an announcement about the MMD. We are near close to the finish, and I do plan to have the season last 13 chapters. Yes, it will be a season. After that, a special chapter will be made eventually and that one won't be based on the journals. It will be made exclusively for MMD panel strips. I am thinking of another season that will base on the current season of the journals, but most likely it will get started in Late 2018. Even though I haven't put much of season 2 journals, I should put out a lot of it throughout the year. After the MMD Special comes out, there will be a bit of hiatus to slightly update the models and to learn better for MMD panel strips. MMD series is 13 chapters each and we are at 10 right now. Second one may end up the same thing. Although, if I am not that busy in the future, maybe the second season will stay frequent. The next journal entry should be out by the end of the week. It's close to done. Also, the second season of the journal entries will have more arcs that last 3-4 chapters, covering the whole topic. Arcs with a main topic is more interesting and I've been thinking about possible scenarios in the series, and that's why this season took a bit of long time to make. Also, be a lookout for Yuki's Bio this month. MMD videos: I do plan to do Miraculous Ladybug next and have five plots. It is not randomness, but it is different from each plots that will entertain the viewers. That video will relate to Pokemon a little, since it will share Kalos characters. By the way, this video is based on all five dreams I had from 2016 to now, and I do want to make a video based on those. Next video isn't planned yet, but another randomness is in late spring. Summer might have less videos since I have other things to do, like learning. Others: After showcasing MMD's AA methods, I will study on shaders for a bit, and then I'll start the production of the video later this month. I did make shaders for GBA, NDS, and PSP. It is on Libretro already and I do plan to do a next update if I get my hands on a colorimeter. I do plan to get Colormunki smile since it's pretty cheap and has great reviews, even on forums. For GBA, I do plan to get a light that makes the whites be more closer to 6500k to my screen for accurate color measurements. However, the blue is outside of SRGB color range, and I do need to have the display that has wider blue hues to get the actual data from the GBA screen. I do plan to get a GBC to do the same thing, and I do need a game that shows three main color primaries. Lastly, I do plan to study 3D animation more and to learn a lot of methods of doing more productive work, whether its MMD or Maya. I do want to exports and transfer models more effectively. Learning about MMD and 3D work is important for me, and my best work that I've done so far is [MMD Pokemon] Ash's Vacation. Also, my birthday is at Saturday, so I will have fun.

I don't understand how a writer can be anti-character development. I mean, a lack of continuity is fine for a series like SpongeBob SquarePants or The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy. they have premises, sure. But they don't exactly have overarching plotlines. But when you do a show that's story-driven like Miraculous Ladybug, you need to not only let characters learn stuff, but it needs to stick and change how they handle things later on. Like...why wouldn't you want to do that in this case?
I really don’t get why Astruc thinks he can have a story-driven show where every new viewers can jump in at every episode. All he really needs to do is add a “Previously On...” segment to the start of every episode to catch viewers up.
And even shows that aren’t story-driven and are more episodic can have character development. Morgana from Darkwing Duck and Rubberband Man from Static Shock both started out as villains, but later turned a new leaf and became allies to their respective heroes. But then again, their creators don’t have an irrational hatred for those characters.
