I just can’t help but think just how brutally evil Gabriel was all the way to the end and even after his death. 

That he still chose to make Marinette suffer by placing this obligation on her tiny shoulders that she SHOULDN’T have had to carry and that he got away scot free without having to face any of the true consequences of his actions. 

That he still chose to keep his son deceived till the end and take away the closure that Adrien deserved to have after all those years of suffering under the same rooftop as him. And that if Adrien were to find out the truth, Gabriel wouldn’t even be there to deal with the confrontation.

Gabriel Agreste is such a cruel, cruel man.

Because of the CRAZY amount of leaks that have been happening lately (like… entire scripts/animatics for episodes kind of leaks), people started a hashtag for Gloob to premiere the episodes early since they have basically already been entirely spoiled by leakers and… it worked!

So tomorrow December 30th, Gloob will be airing S5E19 Pretension and S5E20 Revelation at 7:55 pm Brasilia Standard Time (source).

Anyway maybe people should be allowed to be upset that this show, which spent the first 4+ seasons setting itself up as a narrative where a controlling child abuser is the main villain, and lack of agency as a victim of parental abuse was a major problem to overcome for one of the title characters, did a jarring thematic 180° near the end of the first major story arc (that was originally supposed to be the whole show), and turned into blatant victim-blaming and abuse victim grooming propaganda material.

And the showrunner is also engaging in this victim-blaming and abuse apologism rhetoric and insulting people on Twitter if they question it. Which is... kind of really damning, at this point.

People who are upset about this aren't just "hating on the show" for the heck of it. This is, in fact, reasonable basis to be upset. People are allowed to voice their disappointment after the show wasted their sincere emotional attachment (yes, you should be allowed to have sincere emotional attachments even if it's something silly like a mediocre magical girl cartoon) and spat in the face of its own story and themes and characters.

Also a worrisomely significant segment of the fanbase has gone very mask off in starting to regurgigate and agree with this abuse apologia rhetoric, encouraged by the canon validating it.

Look, I get that Miraculous Ladybug is a show for kids, but no matter how hard I try, I just can't turn off my suspension of disbelief about the whole mayor thing. André Bourgeois gets away with straight up war crimes like twice a month? And when he steps down his daughter calls dibs and decides it's coup d'état time. And everyone else in bloody FRANCE is initially cool with the teenage daughter of their previous mayor being in charge despite being the country where they invented a very special knife to put a stop to that kind of nepo baby bullshit. And then when actual democratic elections happen the new mayor is like "Hello, Paris, by the power invested in me 5 minutes ago I've decided that we're switching to a green and lowkey communist vibe"

Honestly, if the the leaks for the season 5 finale are correct... Marinette is not being "propped up" at "the cost of the other characters."..

The Adrien isn't a Sentimonster Theory

One of the common problems within the area of fan theory is that fandoms tend to find the theory they like and champion it instead of pointing out other contradicting theories and trying to see how they could work. I invite you to think with me on this idea of Adrien not being a sentimonster. To put aside your personal preference towards one theory and try to clearly think on the possibility that the theory is wrong and what that means. That is what this is about a thought expermint or look into how it could be possible that Adrien is not a sentimonster what that would mean and how that could work.

The first question then to ask is why would Adrien as a sentimonster not work? A answer to this question if taken down would go a long way at explaining why Adrien maybe is not a sentimonster, and as it stands I only see one really good reason why it is hard to argue that Adrien is not a sentimonster and that is that the foreshadowing the show has given looks like the writers deliberately lying to you to pull a "ha, fooled you" which would ruin the integrity of the show. This does not have to be the case though and here I will attempt to explain why.

Foreshadowing is used for prompting the audience in something to come up later in the text of a material however, the comparison between Adrien and a sentimonster is not foreshadowing but simply comparison. See the point of Adrien being shown to have some sentimonster characteristics is not to make you think he is a sentimonster but to make you wonder what is the difference between him and a sentimonster. To which the answer is not a lot. The extent of Gabriel's controlling nature and the nature of Adrien's life and his own personality have left him completely and totally terrified and cowed by his father. The failure to follow instructions has nothing to do with being controlled by an amok but Adrien might as well be controlled by one their is not much difference. Adrien stuck at his door wanting to disobey his father's order to go downstairs and help is similar to the actions of a sentimonster being asked to follow or obey an order but it could very well also just be the actions of a kid terrified to disobey his father.

This is the work around some problems are that this is the point of making Adrien a sentimonster in the first place to communicate this helplessness to other kids for them to better understand the situation. Therefore, this type of reading is a more adult reading that can be determined by adults more easily due to more experience in the world and seeing these events.

At the same time this counter argument is a little unsatisfying it makes an assumption that kids cannot understand things or relate their own experiences to a character. This reading of Adrien as not a sentimonster might be more confusing to kids in better relationships with their parents, but would seem to be more understandable by kids in bad relationships with their parents.

It is an interesting thought to dwell on.
