Elle makes me so fucking mad. She is a big part of what makes the anime so FUCKING disappointingly BAD! She is literal the perfect example of a Mary Sue according to TV Tropes:

She's exotically beautiful, often having an unusual hair or eye color, and has a similarly cool and exotic name. She's exceptionally talented in an implausibly wide variety of areas, and may possess skills that are rare or nonexistent in the canon setting. She also lacks any realistic, or at least story-relevant, character flaws — either that or her "flaws" are obviously meant to be endearing.

She has an unusual and dramatic Back Story. The canon protagonists are all overwhelmed with admiration for her beauty, wit, courage and other virtues, and are quick to adopt her as one of their True Companions, even characters who are usually antisocial and untrusting; if any character doesn't love her, that character gets an extremely unsympathetic portrayal. She has some sort of especially close relationship to the author's favorite canon character — their love interest, illegitimate child, never-before-mentioned sister, etc. Other than that, the canon characters are quickly reduced to awestruck cheerleaders, watching from the sidelines as Mary Sue outstrips them in their areas of expertise and solves problems that have stymied them for the entire series.

Ok cool, let's dissect each part and see if it fits Elle!

She's exotically beautiful, often having an unusual hair or eye color, and has a similarly cool and exotic name.

This one admittedly doesn't exactly fit her, but although she may not be "exotically beautiful" She is still clearly meant to be beautiful. For example, Morty LITERALLY blushes the second she sees her, and she's immidately hit on by Toby Matthews the second she goes to Morty's school. So although she doesn't fit this part to a tee, I would still say it fits. And yeah, her name is pretty basically, being Elle, but she tends to be refered to as El by the characters, or maybe that's how you pronounce the name Elle, I dunno, I'm not very smart. But Alien Elle fits this trope, she has the same name yes, but she has green skin and like red eyes. She's clearly meant to be beautiful in an "exotic" way. I'm so fucking sick of this bitch.

I mean…COME ONNNN! She's incredibly talented in fighting, even when Rick fucking SANCHEZ couldn't defeat something, she can defeat it with ease, despite not having a quarter of the technology Rick has. She's also shown to be incredibly talented, saved Rick, Morty, and Space Beth, and has like some time powers. She is the ONLY ONE (Besides Slo Mobius but he's not in the anime and is canonically dead) in the Rick and Morty universe that has time powers. Sure Ricks are smart enough to get these powers. but Ricks never miss with time travel in canon, and they are able to time travel due to science, not power. She's one of the few Rick and Morty characters that has birth given powers, literally the only other person I can think of is Mr. FUCKING Nimbus, and he has water powers. She fits this part TO A FUCKING TEE

She also lacks any realistic, or at least story-relevant, character flaws — either that or her "flaws" are obviously meant to be endearing.

Yeahhh you cannot tell me this doesn't fit her perfectly. Tell me one fucking flaw she has. She can stand up for herself, she's smart, everyone loves her, she's strong, she's friendly, she's nice, she's popular, she's literally fucking perfect. We never even see her feel a negative emotion. When she was about to fucking DIE she was smiling because she did it for Mortyyyyy. And when Rick had to option to make her disappear, she's fine with it because she got to meet Morttttyyyyyy. She sacrificed herself for Mortyyyy TWICE! Morty always feels safe when he's with her. blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Literally the only time she feels anger was towards the fucking VILLIANS! She did use to be a villian, but apparently nobody cares about this, and she immidately turned good when she met Space Beth…for some reason. I don't even fucking know man…we don't even get to see her be evil because the moment she is, she instantly turns good because of Space Beth. Are you fucking choking me silly right now?

She has an unusual and dramatic Back Story.

Yeah, literally her backstory was that she used to work with the galactic federation, but she saw Space Beth and got reminded of what she should be doing (Space Beth literally did nothing, she just existed and that was enough ig). Then she suppperrrr coolly kills the highly trained alien guard and Space Beth was not at all worried that Elle straight up PUT HER LIFE IN DANGER and it is never mentioned. Space Beth is just happy because Elle saved her life. Then she tells Space Beth that Morty would accept her with open arms andddd that's it. Wow. Yeah it is way too overdramatic. I hate this chick so much istg. And that's not even it, she also is like anti-matter, like she was created by mistake when Rick made an anti-matter bomb and her existence was a mistake by the universe and is messing things up- Dude I dunno, the writers had to be smoking SOMETHING when they were cooking up Elle's backstory istg. At least the universe knew she was a mistake, shame they didn't get rid of her eariler though.

Yeah this fits her perfectly. She's popular with everyone at Morty's school that even the popular guy Toby Matthews asks her out. Domestic Beth says that she "quite likes that girl". We don't really see her interact with Jerry, but he seems cool with her from the bit we do see. Summer gets along with her well and even said that she's "way more useful than Morty, that's for sure." I fucking hate that line so much. She saved Space Beth life and Space Beth is apparently a little baby who needs her help even though she's a super trained space lady. And Space Beth NEEDS to pay her back for saving her life, even though fucking ELLE put her life in danger IN THE FIRST PLACE. Even fucking RICK who is y'know AN ASSHOLE!? Is fucking KIND to her and trusts her immediately and like WHY!? Apart of Rick's whole FUCKING thing is that he's emotionally closed off?? And Morty is reduced to her proud boyfriend and would do fucking anything for her and always talks about how much he loves her.

She's literally accepted into the Smith family since she saved Rick, twice and became a major character. She's in damn near every episode and is probably the 2nd most paid attention to character. Being next to Morty. She gets more attention than RICK FUCKING SANCHEZ. AND THE SHOW IS CALLED RICK AND MORTY NOT MORTY AND ELLE. And even some random guys who we barely know praise Elle at the beginning of episode 6. Nobody is against her, everyone loves her. And for some reason Beth is completely fine with Elle staying in Morty's room??? Huh??? I hate this girl so much I want to fucking die-

And whenever she's fighting, everyone just watches her in awe because she's a perfect baby princess. And literally everyone in the Smith family, besides maybe Rick and Jerry, fawned over her at least once. Especially Morty, they did my son so dirty istg-

Yeahhh Elle perfectly fits the traits of a Mary Sue. I might make a longer post on how she makes the whole anime worse, but just gonna end this one right here with a "Fuck you!" to Elle.

It Shouldn't Need to Happen...

One of the (many) things I hate about Kataang is that there is no real build on Katara's side. Even the moments that get trotted out as proof that Katara liked Aang back (like the dance in that stupid Footloose pastiche that meant nothing to the overall plot) are undercut by the fact that Katara doesn't acknowledge them. It's business as usual afterwards, and nothing about how she treats him (like her baby brother-son) changes. The only explicit proof we get that Katara likes him back in an he is my equal and I see him as a potential partner way is that awkward kiss in the end. Here's the thing, that kiss shouldn't have been necessary.

Go with with me for a second. I was recently revisiting Legally Blonde (classic), and it gave me another reason to hate the Kataang kiss in the finale. Compare how Kataang was handled to Elle and Emmet's relationship in Legally Blonde. We never see them together in an explicitly romantic way. Even the last scene, at Elle's graduation, he's in the crowd, and the whole post script reveal that he and Elle had been dating for two years and were about to be engaged could have been skipped and nothing would've been lost. The movie wasn't about Elle and Emmet. It was about Elle learning that she was smarter and more capable than anyone realized, even her, and she didn't have to change anything about her personality to be successful. Still, the fact that they did end up together makes sense. We understand why they are attracted to each other. In Emmet, Elle finds a rare supportive figure who believes in her abilities and values her beyond her physical appearance. He, in turn, is drawn to Elle's determination and intelligence (and the fact that she's hot is a bonus). That's made clear in the movie before anything remotely romantic happens between them. They don't kiss in the movie at all. We don't even see the proposal. Still, them ending up together makes sense because the movie set them up for it. It was a bit disappointing that we didn't get to see them kiss, but that's not what the movie was about. My point is, we didn't need them to kiss to believe their relationship. We may have wanted it, but we didn't need it. Because the writers did their job.

Circling back around to Kataang. They needed the kiss to show where their relationship stood. If the show had ended without them kissing, even with Katara going out to stand on the balcony with Aang, it could just be read as completely platonic. Following with the undercurrent of mom/sitter and child, Katara going out to the balcony with Aang could've been read as his caretaker's quiet pride in the child she'd raised. They needed to kiss to make it clear that their relationship was no longer platonic, and it was entirely because the writers had neglected to give Katara any real reason to want to be with Aang romantically.

The fact that we only get an emotional mutual hug between Rick and Morty in the anime because fucking ELLE (a character who, if you are unaware, I hate with a burning passion) died is downright despicable and doesn't make sense. Especially considering that Rick was almost willing to let Morty fucking DIE so he doesn't have to sacrifice an invention a little bit ago. I can't even be happy because of the hug considering how little it makes sense, and that this isn't even our Rick and Morty. They only added that so rick and Morty fans will go "Awww" I promise you. They wanted to score brownie points, but it didn't work for me!

Idea: The Dead and the Living hear things, names in particular, differently, partly just because Ghost Physics Are Different and partly because Identity is a Big Deal in the afterlife. So while to a human "Danny" and "Dani" sound identical, to a ghost they're the same amount similar as "Bob" and "Rob." The two of them tend to forget that and genuinely don't understand why Sam and Tucker keep getting their names confused without context. They always know which one is being referred to, after all.

Some interesting exceptions:

-Jazz can hear the difference because Big Sister Powers.

-Valerie can hear the difference because I'm fully convinced that her second suit makes her at least 20% ghost.

-Vlad can't hear the difference despite being part ghost because he sucks and refuses to use or acknowledge their preferred nicknames.

as someone who adored the (admittedly imperfect) Disney movie “Wish”, I’m noticing a disturbing correlation between the “Magnifico Apologists” who totally missed the pint of the film and tout him as an excellent leader, and MAGA voters. Anyone else been seeing this??
