You know how Aziraphale always wears clothes that have been out of fashion for at least a hundred years and Crowley just miracles himself up whatever he thinks is modern, right?
So why on earth is he wearing sleeve garters in 2023 then?
(Not that I’m complaining..)
You can just see them when he turns here ⬇️
For me the answer is clearly either:
because he thinks it’s hot
or (better):
because he thinks Aziraphale thinks it’s hot
(Bonus option: they are part of his bookseller cosplay)

gets in charge of the bookshop for 1 (one) day: shows up in a cardigan vest and metal sleeve garters, keeps the shop CLOSED, avoids selling a single book... iconic, truly did THE MOST, 10/10 😩👌🏻
(also, the way he was this 🤏🏻 close to finally achieving the status of house husband he's been dreaming about for MILLENIA just to have the rug pulled out from under him last minute... truly DEVASTATING 😩 my girl really can't catch a break 🤧)

Fanfic Review: Anthophilia
Anthony J. Crowley's life seems like it's finally falling into place: his floral shop has begun to gain an undercurrent of appreciation in the design elite of London, and he might have even finally found a boyfriend who looks just right lounging on his Tenreiro sofa. Things seem almost perfect, until one day the empty shop across the street is leased to frumpy fellow Oxford alumni, who doesn't seem to remember Crowley nearly as well as he remembers him, which really shouldn't bother him as much as it does - it was ten years ago after all, and it wasn't even that good of a kiss.
Length: 49,446 words
AO3 Rating: Mature / Spice Level 🔥🔥
Best for: Mostly Safe in Public, Pick-me-up, Human AU
Triggers: None
Read it here, fic by FortinbrasFTW
*Minor Spoilers* We are in Crowley's flower shop when he gets a blast from the past, the man he spent a night making out with at uni has just leased the bookshop across the street. The problem is Aziraphale doesn't seem to remember him. I love the way this unfolds. It's not necessarily a slow burn, but throughout their meetings they slowly and gently fall for each other.
Crowley in this story is seeing someone. Handsome and wealthy, Lucius is the opposite of Aziraphale. And things are new enough that Crowley genuinely likes some parts of dating him. It's common in fics to see Crowley's partners as abusive, and I love that this doesn't do that. Lucius is an ass. Arrogant, shallow, and uncompassionate. But he isn't abusive, he's just not the right partner for Crowley. Anathema is also a welcome character here. I like when she pops up as a nuisance kind of best friend. I feel like that has become fanon to have her as a nosey neighbor/bff and I love it every time. A minor detail about Aziraphale that I love, the author doesn't go for his usual fashion choices. Oh it's outdated, it's very outdated, and unfashionable. But it's the fashion from his human lifetime. It's 80's and 90's rather than his typical velveteen waistcoat. A small change that I don't see many human aus make and I really appreciated that detail!
It just so nice watching our pair become reacquainted, how easy it is for them to fall into each other's orbit. No more thoughts on the plot, let that play out for you. Safe ish in public, there are some references to sex early on but nothing graphic. The only longer scene is at the end. It's a nice balanced read, not exactly fluffy but not angsty either.

And to spell out the jokes for those who are unfamiliar:
Lady Bracknell - A leading lady in the Oscar Wilde comedy play “The Importance of Being Earnest”. She is OFTEN played by a man. (That this is the one they went with makes me curious bc this her famous line matches up with what’s said by Metatron in Gabriel’s “trial”: “'To lose one parent, Mr. Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness.”) Angela Lansbury - The actress who played Jessica Fletcher, the middle-aged leading lady in the American crime drama television series “Murder, She Wrote”. Jessica was a writer of murder mystery novels and investigated mysteries each episode.
Miss Marple - Famous amateur consulting detective character created by English detective novelist Dame Agatha Christie, often depicted as an elderly spinster across 12 novels and 20 short stories.
my maiden aunt, the dowager duchess, my elderly friend, the old lady - Overall, Crowley’s just calling Aziraphale old or an old lady for his drink choice with all of these but these spell it out. XD
Terminology-wise, “maiden aunt” from dictionary.com: an aunt who has never been married, typically characterized as prim or old-fashioned. And “dowager duchess” from vocabulary.com: In the old days, this title was useful since it distinguished a widow from the wife of the heir to her late husband's title. The heir's wife would be the duchess, while the widow would be the dowager duchess.
Basically, “Aziraphale I think you’re an old spinster lady who thinks they’re in a cozy mystery,” says Anthony J. Crowley but only to the bartender.
Hello again, thank you for making me aware of the bonus stuff, I probably wouldn't have noticed. :) Maybe a hard task but I was wondering if you or one of your lovely followers could do a transcript of the "Crowley ordering drinks" blooper? I only get half of it and there are no subtitles ...
Hiya! :) Hello, large Talisker please and a sherry for:
Lady Bracknell
Angela Lansbury
my maiden aunt
the dowager duchess
elderly friend
Miss Marple
the old lady

Hello :) Thank you for your dedication to the fandom!
I’m wanting to read something where Crowley is a baddie in term of being a demon and all, but is still very tender and sweet to Aziraphale after in a way that makes you go aww he’s so soft
Like the “asshole to the world but sweet to his girl” cats wearing hoodies meme lol
Let me know if you think of anything!
Hi and you’re welcome! You might be interested in our #dark crowley tag, and here are some darker Crowley fics in which he has a soft spot for Aziraphale...
Saturday Night in Soho by Zeckarin (T)
Kait simply wants to have a few drinks, and hopefully get lucky and bring someone home. There's a cute man with pale hair reading in the corner booth. What could go wrong?
Blue Roses by NotEvenCloseToStraight (G)
Hell’s Bells Botanicals was the most successful flower shop in all of London and in no way could that success be attributed to excellent customer service or the owner being the sort of chap who was friends with everyone.
In fact, Hell’s Bells Botanicals was the most successful flower shop in all of London DESPITE having the worst customer service imaginable and an owner that obviously enjoyed making every moment in his shop as unpleasant as possible.
Anthony J Crowley was surly and ill mannered, impatient with potential customers and downright aggravating with repeat customers, and underwent transactions as if it irked him to his very soul to sell the plants he raised.
Hell’s Bells Botanicals was the best, its owner quite literally the worst, and seeing as how Crowley had been around since the dawn of time and had seen any and everything the world had to offer, he didn’t see anything about his attitude changing anytime soon.
But then the empty bookshop across the way was purchased by a blonde man in an old fashioned sort of suit jacket, and life as Crowley knew it changed quite a bit.
Long Live the King by StarlightPhoenix (M)
During the stand-off against Satan, Adam had done something. Satan never returned, and Hell had no King.
Beelzebub had no choice but to go to Crowley, Serpent of Eden, and offer him the Throne.
Crowley had no choice but to accept, knowing it would keep him and Aziraphale safe.
All hail the Serpent of Eden.
Anything for you, anything at all by angelsnuffbox (E)
Aziraphale, an ordinary bookshop owner in Soho, has been friends with Anthony J. Crowley for well over three years now, but sometimes he thinks that he isn't fully human. He can't be.
i’ll never be lonely by john1513 (M)
Aziraphale summons a demon to his bookshop to demand (*politely ask) a little favor of him. Was it a great idea to summon a literal demon from hell to be your friend for a bit? Maybe not. But Aziraphale has been a bit lonely lately, and he's tried everything, really. Turns out the demon he calls is less Demon and more Grumpy, Cuddly Man, but, hey. He's not complaining.
Aziraphale sells his soul in exchange for friendship, and gets more than he bargained for.

(THIS IS FROM JUNE OF 2021! WHY HAVE I NEVER DONE A THING WITH THIS???)
Notes for android Good Omens au:
Aziraphale:
-Aziraphale ‘Ezra’ Fell is a human with a cybernetic leg from a war he had been forced to join. He left when he recovered and moved to the London Section to open a bookshop, one of the few left in the country as many books are now digital, but it’s more of a novelty and museum than anything else. Aziraphale makes a living off of restoring books and letting students of human studies use his books for research, as digital ones tend to edit things.
-He’s on thin ice with law enforcement and higher ups in the city for not editing his collection. He avoids having to because they are relics and are protected under laws.
-He isn’t too big on all the advances in technology, he prefers older things. He’s actually honest about this, though people think he’s part of those groups that enjoy older human stuff as a novelty or weird lifestyle, Aziraphale just prefers old fashion things.
-However, he has no choice but to use technology, and he’s learned to live with that.
-He goes by Ezra because he is told far too often that his name is unusual and annoying, and he’s tired of people never getting it right.
-Aziraphale is agender and some flavor of queer, living by himself and not very interested in dating nowadays
-He’s 49 when he meets Crowley
-Aziraphale grew up in an small village called Tadfield that is very old fashioned, but the past 20+ years has greatly advanced technology and the world, for better or for worse.
-Despite his disinterest in the technology of Heavenly Industries and Ninth Circle Inc., Aziraphale is actually pretty good with machines, mostly older ones, but he prefers to fix his own broken hardware (even though he technically isn’t supposed to). It gives him something to do and he doesn’t mind it, this way he can make something work the way he likes it best.
Crowley:
-Originally labeled as AJ0440, under the ‘Crawly’ line, Crowley is a helper android who is meant to obey their owners, working as an unquestioning servant to whoever owns them. Crowley, however, ‘suffers’ from a malfunction in his internal mainframe, resulting in him questioning things outside of the register questions only meant to satisfy his potential owner.
-He escaped his original owner when he started to question their actions and was struck by a car in the SoHo district of London Section, where Aziraphale saw it happen.
-His ‘malfunction’ became worse from the damage and his questioning became more prominent. He also started to become curious of humans, as androids are not meant to be, they have the very basic knowledge of human health and safety (unless if you worked in emergency services), and started to wonder about himself, about what sort of being he was now that he had what can be considered free will.
-He is taken in when he’s left in the streets as a hit and run, since no one cares about androids like they would a human or animal, but Aziraphale cared. Crowley is brought into the bookshop and glitches out, going into ‘new owner’ mode, registering ‘Ezra Fell’ as his new owner.
-Crowley is reluctantly accepted by Ezra, who really doesn’t like the idea of owning anyone
-In the shop, Crowley is allowed to help, learning how Ezra does things and his systems of running the business. He also starts to read, which he shouldn’t be able to. His internal knowledge is just downloaded, but he picks up on the habit of reading and learns from Ezra.
-Crowley takes an interest in wearing more than just his standard uniform, asking Ezra if he can get clothes that are both masculine and feminine. Crowley also gets a hold of wigs. (Androids, depending on the model, can have artificial hair, but often just kept to one specific style for the model)
-He even starts to give himself different genders and asks Ezra to call him Anthony J. Crowley instead of his serial number or his brand name. Ezra smiles, asking if Crowley could call him Aziraphale, which Crowley happily does. He also calls Aziraphale ‘angel’
-Crowley is genderfluid and in love with Aziraphale
-Part of his malfunction changed the LED lights in his eyes, making them gold instead of brown, blue, or green.
Ineffable Spouses:
-Aziraphale has never wanted an android, he doesn’t think he’d be happy with having a humanoid-looking robot to order around, it feels wrong. Plus, he can’t afford one anyway, most people can’t.
-When Crowley ends up hit in front of his shop, Aziraphale doesn’t think, he rushes over and realizes that ‘oh, this is an android’, but Crowley actually asks him for help, that he’s scared. Androids don’t have emotions like that (they have set ones), and Aziraphale takes him in to check on him.
-While he’s patching up Crowley, he checks his hard drive and system, realizing that Crowley is completely off his protocol, that he’s basically a rogue bot. Normally, these are sent back to be ‘repaired’, but Aziraphale can’t find it in him to do something like that, not after Crowley sits there, asking him about the shop and books, sounding honest with his curiosity. Why punish someone for being curious?
-When he finishes up, he accidentally tweaks something, and Crowley suddenly claims that ‘Ezra Fell is now AJ0440′s new owner’. He’s not pleased about this, but... it seems to make Crowley happy, especially since he isn’t with his older owner anymore.
-After letting Crowley charge overnight, he shows the android around, talking a bit about himself and the like. Crowley seems fascinated and asks questions, at first he was reluctant to, but Aziraphale seemed happy to reply instead of being upset about him doing this.
-The longer Crowley sticks around Aziraphale, learning from him and about things that aren’t censored for him, the more amazed he is with the human. He weirdly feels something towards him that Crowley can’t explain, but he’s trying to learn.
-Aziraphale is fascinated with Crowley’s desire to learn and his adaptation to finding an identity that isn’t attached to his android system, to being nearly human with his desire for clothes and hair changes, to asking to be referred to as ‘he, she, or even they’, and when he says he’s picked out a name for himself, to be his own person and not just a serial number, Aziraphale realizes he’s fallen in love, human or android, he loves Crowley.
-However, this is... not good. Androids can’t feel love (technically they can but humans don’t want to think about them having any actual emotions.), and yes, there are humans who have relationships with them, but it’s mostly for scratching an itch and whatnot, but there has never been a human and an android who share the same feelings like this. Crowley already stands out enough as it is, they have to be careful.
-Crowley can’t let Heavenly Industries or Nine Circle Inc. know he’s a malfunctioning unit since the Crawly Line was produced by both as a project for the elite, so they have to be very careful.
-Crowley doesn’t look completely human, there are parts of him that expose his robotic parts in clear patches in his ‘skin’ (aesthetic reasons, apparently humans really like see-thru tech again!), and his eyes don’t really help, one eye is human looking, the other is rather... snake-y. There are also small ‘scars’ from where Aziraphale had to patch up damage done from the hit and run

Okay, idk how happy I am with this design, but it’s done. I kinda leaned into the spooky angel route because I personally enjoy that. I know that in SU gems are just minerals, not rocks (the difference being that rocks like granite are made up of many minerals), but consider this: I’ve already rubbed my grubby little geologist hands all over it and you can’t stop me
Or, as I told @interstellarvagabond:
@interstellarvagabond asked for Aziraphale and Crowley gemsonas. I don’t know a ton about Steven Universe but I sure do have opinions about minerals!! (I’m still working on their fusion design)

I recognize that the wardrobe choice is horrifying but I also recognize that my children Anthony J. Crowley and Aziraphale both have a horrifying sense of fashion. So it's probably accurate.

I heard skinny jeans aren't modern any more either.
You know how Aziraphale always wears clothes that have been out of fashion for at least a hundred years and Crowley just miracles himself up whatever he thinks is modern, right?
So why on earth is he wearing sleeve garters in 2023 then?
(Not that I’m complaining..)

For me the answer is clearly either:
because he thinks it’s hot

because he thinks Aziraphale thinks it’s hot
