You know what scene Iâm going to be distraught if we donât get in the show (due to it being cancelled after season 1 or any other reason)?
The sirens scene in Sea of Monsters.
Percy with his wax ear plugs. Annabeth having him tie her to the mast so she can listen. The frantic swim toward the beach when she escapes. Percy seeing her siren dream when he catches up to her. Percy and Annabeth hugging at the bottom of the ocean.
I will be distraught if we donât get to see that.

what if like the conflict is that after an abduction, a coma, amnesia, being branded and a quest percy is straight up like if you don't take me to see my mom right now im capsizing the ship and all of you on it
in his mind he needs to reassure her and also himself that he's alive and back to normal and he'll only stay long enough to hug her and maybe make a goddamn coffee.
annabeth takes his side, ofc, but she recognizes the fact there's a 80% chance percy will refuse to leave his mom and that she'll be right there parked on sally's couch with him if given the opportunity. its not the best thing for the quest, her mom or the whole world but haven't they earned the right to be selfish yet?
frank and hazel are split; frank's also a momma's boy, he gets it, he'd dragged them to his grandma's house for safety sure but it wasn't purely altruistic of him; but he doesn't know how to balance his respect for percy and his respect for duty (chronically roman).
Hazel... she's the most sympathetic and she loves percy, she knows he deserves and needs this even if he won't admit it like that. percy told her stories about sally as the memories drifted back in and she'd give anything to have that kind of love she doesn't want to begrudge her friend that. but she also knows that they're on a time limit and her only living family is in trouble.
leo and piper, on the other hand, don't get it. sure leo would burn the ship to hug his mom but he never will be able to, maybe maybe saving the world will mean he at least gets a word of praise from his dad. or they do logically but quests are important right? especially when they've put so much work into this one, building the boat, going to camp jupiter as greeks, 6 months of their lives! they need to save the world! that line hasn't lost its value to them yet, the idea the hope that they are special after all, that they're heroes and not just outcast kids still lingers. most importantly, they don't know percy, they've heard stories of how impulse and irresponsible he is and they'll always back jason.
because jason fucking hates percy. they fight worse than percy and thalia did that winter in titan's curse bc at least those two had annabeth in common. to jason, percy replaced him as praetor after not earning it at all, replaced him as thalia's brother, replaced him as the most powerful and respected demigod. his father is king and lawmaker and percy defies the gods at every instance and they still love him - percy's father loves him. his mother. percy has a mom that he would kill to get back to, that fought to keep him at her side, and jason's mom left him with a wolf before he could talk. he blames the anger on his roman sense of duty telling him that the quest is first priority but its really just jealousy too deep seated to name.
adding to the "there should have been more genuine tension within the seven" train of thought, it would have been funny if the Argo II, technically being a ship, meant it fell under Percy's power domain and he could control it all at whim, rendering all the carefully crafted controls Leo built useless if Percy felt like being an asshole
#pjo#i want percy and jason to be at each others throats#like thalia and percy in ttc except there's no chiron or oracle to diffuse the tension and the quest only makes it worse and worse and wors#jason controls the wind? so does percy. leo controls fire? percy's fire resistant. piper charmspeaks? percy's seen sirens before#and he can fight with his ears blocked and then he really won't listen to ANYONE except annabeth#and frank and hazel

The scene in which Percy witnesses the sirenâs call to Annabeth
I think about this moment all the time. Annabeth insists on listening to the sirens, because of course she does. After she escapes, Percy manages to catch her and when he does, he is able to see her vision. In it, Fredrick Chase, Athena, and Luke welcome Annabeth into a redesigned New York, one that Annabeth herself presumably designed. It was grander than Mount Olympus.
But while everything in this new world was seemingly perfect, it was missing one thing. It didnât feature her best friend, Percy Jackson. But there is a specific reason for this.
Its because Percy didnât need fixing.
Everything in Annabethâs vision was something that was broken in her life. Her relationship with her parents, their relationship with each other, Lukeâs betrayal, and the world as a whole being rife with homeless and war. Each of the pieces of her vision were broken.
And Annabeth was the one to fix them. Her perfect world featured all of the broken pieces of her life fixed. But Percy wasnât there,
Because Percy didnât need fixing
Annabeth didnât see Percy as broken, so she didnât feel as if he needed fixing. He was really the one stable piece of her life, her best friend, and he didnât need fixing.
She truly loved him enough that even her fatal flaw of hubris couldnât touch him.
That is why Percy Jackson wasnât in Annabeth Chaseâs vision. Not because she didnât see him as an important part of her life, but because he didnât need fixing.
And if that isnât love, I donât know what is

I genuinely don't know why Annabeth has a reputation for being emotionless, cold, and stoic in the fandom. But I see all the time, Annabeth is a young girl to a young woman who is always emotional. she always wears her emotions on her sleeve, positive and negative. One of Annabeth's biggest character traits is how much she cares
In the lightning thief, she was the one who had to convince Percy to say hello to Gladiola, she's the one who tells him that she will fight on his side no matter what if war breaks out, even if Athena fights on Zeus' side, because she is his friend. She's the one who opens up about her fear of spiders, that she isn't sure if she is actually good enough to be out in the real world where the monsters are.
In the sea of Monsters she punches a bully for bullying Percy, she cries at least twice in the book, once because of Luke and another because she listened to the Sirens. She apologizes for treating Tyson like crap and opens up to Percy about why.
In Titans' curse she rides a manticore off a cliff to save her friends. She takes the sky from Luke because she sees he's in pain.
In Battle for the Labyrinth she stops in the middle of a competition to comfort Juniper because the other girl is upset. She weeps in front of Percy because despite finally leading a quest she feels responsible if any of her friends get hurt. She does her best to get Nico to join them because she knows how it is to be a kid alone in their world. She kisses Percy when they are forced to split up. She is in so much pain when she has to give a eulogy at Percy's funeral even though he's alive. She all but curses out Daedalus when she finds out the other child of Athena has done. she breaks down when she sees Luke is taken over by Kronos and despite herself she trudges forward the second they get a clue about Grover and tyson because she loves of friends so much.
There are so many instances of every book after I can't even bother listing them. Annabeth is not perfect, but just because she is the smart kid doesn't mean she's cold and emotionless. Annabeth burns hot and bright with all of her emotions she is the farthest thing from cold dam it. She loves so dam hard and much that it hurts, nothing about her is cold and detatched

couldn't help but think constantly about season 2, like we are getting introduced to new characters (and new cast members đđ), but mostly because of annabeth. i've always seen som and botl as annabeth's books, they let you understand her personality, what she wants, what she is.
so there's some of the annabeth's moments that i really exacted/hope to see in the next season cause i know leah would EAT these parts yeah
âwe could use your intelligenceâ âbecause you have none on your own!â
on princesse adromeda where luke is talking to both annabeth and percy, and he tries to convince annabeth to join him, pushing on something that he knows annabeth is extremely attached to, her intelligence. annabeth tries to stay strong, to don't freak out about how, her long time friend, her brother has turned out. even with this sense of sadness she is always the sassy little queen that we have been introduced in the first book !
CC.
i love the scene at circe's. and i can't wait and i do really HOPE to see the reyna/hilla cameo. i guess this scene is important because in some ways we see annabeth give up immortality for percy. and this is just the first time.
the whole backstrory with cyclops and it will be even better if we get some flashbacks
every single memory from her childhood is important to the construction of her character, there wouldn't be annabeth if there wasn't her memories. i guess this part of her story is important to let the reader (and in future the watcher) think about how much bad things annabeth went though since the age of seven. she has been fighting monsters since she was seven.
the sirens scene
okay, this is mostly percabeth BUT i just love how determined annabeth is in that scene, yeah i know that lot of people would consider her actions pretty stupid but be honest with yourself. first of all she was 13, she was a child, second thing, because of that we are getting introduced to her fatal flaw, pride. in that moment annabeth didn't know if she would had another chance to listen to the sirens so she took the opportunity that she had.
â Three people sat on a picnic blanket in Central Park. A feast was spread out before them. I recognized Annabethâs dad from photos sheâd shown me-an athletic-looking, sandy-haired guy in his forties. He was holding hands with a beautiful woman who looked a lot like Annabeth. She was dressed casually-in blue jeans and a denim shirt and hiking boots-but something about the woman radiated power. I knew that I was looking at the goddess Athena. Next to them sat a young man ⊠Luke.
The whole scene glowed in a warm, buttery light. The three of them were talking and laughing, and when they saw Annabeth, their faces lit up with delight. Annabethâs mom and dad held out their arms invitingly. Luke grinned and gestured for Annabeth to sit next to him-as if heâd never betrayed her, as if he were still her friend.
Behind the trees of Central Park, a city skyline rose. I caught my breath, because it was Manhattan, but not Manhattan. It had been totally rebuilt from dazzling white marble, bigger and grander than ever-with golden windows and rooftop gardens. It was better than New York. Better than Mount Olympus. â
this part is just so extremely dear to me. we see what annabeth really wanted. her dad, her mom, her brother and her biggest desire to create building because she wants to be remembered through them. the things that we don't see in this scene are percy and thalia. thalia, she is gone, annabeth would neved see her again so why even think about her as someone who would come back in her life, and percy. percy, that she already consideres as her percy. she knows that she already has him in her life. this scene is so sad and full of meaning we see the cruelest desire that annabeth has. she wants her family back. she wants to be someone one day. and she wants to feel proud of herself.

Percy: Annabeth, I love you, but you're an idiot. You have a thousand dumbass ideas every fucking day.
Annabeth: Name one idea I've had that was idiotic.
Percy: Wanting to listen to the fucking sirens and then almost dying, arguing with the Sphinx because the riddles weren't good enough for you, that time you wanted to-
Annabeth: AH AH AH, I said one idea, Percy! And fuck you! You're not better than me. You pissed off a war god when you were twelve and then continued to piss him off! You threw yourself into a volcano! You tried to ride that gryphon we found because "it's basically just like a pegasus".
Percy: IT WAS BASICALLY LIKE A PEGASUS. It's not my fault it couldn't get with the program!
Nico: Oh my god, you're both so fucking stupid. Neither of you should be allowed to do anything, or make any decisions for yourselves.
Percy: I will not take this slander from the kid who tripped into Tartarus because "it's just my dad's basement, what could go wrong".
Nico: At least I didn't throw myself into the pit because I'm too attached to my girlfriend to understand what danger is.
Annabeth: No, you just talked the boy you were in love with into drowning himself in the Styx because you thought it would make him love you back.
Nico: Well, he fucking did end up loving me back, so what's your point, Annabeth?

yk what would be completely heart wrenching for Rick to do in season two?
add odysseus and telemachus parallels.
like (spoilers) if you havenât read the books, annabeth decided to get tied up and listen to the sirens like odysseus, and it would be cool but sad if we get a mini parallel to Odysseus, like a little scene for a few seconds then it cuts back to annabeth.
And for Telemachus itâs just Percy being a mommaâs boy.
-Penelope anon
Omg that would be so cool! I never really got into the books, but I know theyâre really good! & he seems like the kind of writer to draw inspiration/make parallels, so I think it could be a pretty strong possibility!

BOOK/SHOW SPOILERS AHEAD
Okay just one more post for the night which is gonna be a bit of a tangent but I just have so much pride for these kids and yeah there's room for growth but they're already doing such a fantastic job and I'm excited to see where they go from here but okay okay here's another call for applause for Leah's portrayal of Annabeth for a reason I haven't seen talked about a whole lot: her emotions.
I saw a post a while back explaining that in the books Annabeth is made to be this genius who's ruled by logic, but in actuality we're given so many instances where it's the exact opposite and that she's actually driven by her emotions. Her excitement about architecture makes her want to see the Arch, her curiosity makes her want to listen to the siren's song, her sense of protection over Percy drives her to take a stab wound for him, her love for Percy keeps her going refusing to give up searching for him when he goes missing. So many of her decisions favor emotion and are to the detriment of logic despite the fact that she's still so smart and in pursuit of wisdom. But I think this juxtaposition of her character makes her so compelling and relatable, especially in a world where the narrative is so driven by relationships between characters. And I think Leah is already showing us that compelling juxtaposition in her Annabeth magnificently. In the show she's smart, assertive, and strategic. But she's also vulnerable and protective, and when Percy shows her that she doesn't have to prove herself to be worthy of love she grows hopeful--even lamenting that maybe she was once like him too (before she got turned into a child soldier). Leah's Annabeth is so brainy, but it's her emotional performance that has really brought her to life for me. Kudos to Leah Sava Jeffries.

Ok so, as I said yesterday I'm rereading Sea of Monsters and I've gotta admit, there are a lot of parts that I didn't remember from it that deserve more appreciation.
(Long post incoming! đ
)
One of them that I really want to talk about is after Annabeth listens to the siren song and learns that her fatal flaw is hubris. When she was listening to the sirens, she saw a scene of her father and Athena happily together, along with Luke all sitting in central park. Surrounding them is a new Manhattan that Annabeth has built and it looks so much better than the western civilization that the gods have built.
When she's telling Percy about her fatal flaw, she talks about how the west represents a lot of the greatest things to ever come from mankind, but how your view starts to change when all you can see are the bad things. She says that would make someone start to think more like Luke. That if she could tear everything down and start everything a new, that she would be able to run and build things better. That if she could rebuild it, the world wouldn't be as messed up. There would be no more war, nobody homeless and left on the streets to fend for themselves.
And this is absolutely correct, this is essentially why Luke is doing this all to begin with. This is his core goal (purely Luke's and not Kronos). To make a better world for everyone. Where no one would have to go what he and countless others had been through. So that maybe others would be able to see the good in the world after all his life he had only been shown the bad.
But then there are these couple paragraphs after that. Those are super interesting to me and it gives so much insight on the universe and how certain people think.
"She (Annabeth) gazed into the distance. 'I'm not sure. But we have to save camp. If we don't stop Luke...'
She didn't need to finish. If Luke's way of thinking could even tempt Annabeth, there was no telling how many other half-bloods might join him."
First thing to remember, this is all from Percy's perspective. These are all his own thoughts and how he thinks about things. So I think the way Percy speaking about Annabeth in the last paragraph kinda shows how he tends to think of her as strong for not thinking like Luke. Like Luke is kind of weak for thinking the way he does about things needing to change and rebelling against the gods. But also like Luke's way of thinking of his envisioning of a better world without the gods in control is, in itself, something dangerous.
Now, to the other demigods, if the gods were to fall and those demigods were to join Luke's/ Kronos's side, then... It really wouldn't be that dangerous for them. At least not much more dangerous than it is for them now with the gods ruling over everything. Because the gods and Titans are very much the same.
But ultimately, my main point is, Percy seems to have this underlying fear and aversion to anyone doing anything to go against the gods. But why? Why when we see that he is to his core, more on the rebellious side? Much like the ocean, Percy doesn't like to be restrained.
Because, he's been influenced by the gods and camp (especially Chiron). He's been steered to believe that even the thought of going against the gods is wrong and shouldn't be done. He's had Chiron who's been telling him that the gods falling out of power would be the worst thing to ever happen. One god in particular (ahem, Hermes) has used Percy's strong sense of loyalty and family to lead him, to manipulate him farther and put in his head that turning his back on his family (in this case the gods) is something that you should never do.
And it's not just Percy who has been raised to think this way, it's a lot of the other demigods at camp who stay loyal to the gods until their final breaths. Who stay loyal to them even as they watch their siblings die left and right before their eyes.
And Kronos is doing this exact same thing to Luke. It's the same thing that Kronos would've done to his subjects if he would've won the war. There is no difference between the gods and the Titans and, once again, Percy and Luke showcase that perfectly.
And people who believe that the gods are better than the Titans like to bring up the line from TLT when Luke says something along the lines of "the ones who serve Kronos will be treated well and be powerful, the others who don't will be killed."
Yeah, the gods do the exact same thing. They kill or torture anyone who defies them, and gives power to the ones who serve them. We have plenty of examples of this, two major ones are right in the last chapters of The Last Olympian. Luke rebelled against the gods, as he was fated to, and he died as he was fated to, along with most of the other traitors. And Percy, the one who had served the gods the most, he was offered godhood. Power. So yeah, there really is no difference between them.
But I just think it's so interesting how those two paragraphs can give so much insight into how Percy views things. And this is just from the second book. And the book that tends to be most people's least favorite book in the series.
#TTC will always be my favorite book in the series#but rereading SOM has reminded me that there are so many tidbits of foreshadowing and information that is sprinkled throughout this book#but yeah#luke castellan#percy jackson#annabeth chase#sea of monsters#pjo#pjoverse

Daughter of Olympus (Leo Valdez xFem!Oc)
A/N: I won't elaborate on my fancast for Leo it explains itself -Danny Words: 2,152 Series' Masterlist Previous Chapter / Next Chapter Listen to: 'Polaroid' -by Imagine Dragons
VII. Save Money on Valentine's Day, Become Unlovable
"What Luke told you back on the Princess Andromeda, about starting the world from scratch... that really got to you, huh?"
Annabeth makes a face. "My fatal flaw. That's what the Sirens showed me. My fatal flaw is hubris."
"That brown stuff they spread on veggie sandwiches?"
She sighs. "No, Seaweed Brain. That's hummus. Hubris is worse."
"What could be worse than hummus?"
"Hubris means deadly pride, Percy. Thinking you can do things better than anyone else... even the gods."
"You feel that way?"
Annabeth takes a moment before replying. "Don't you ever feel like, what if the world really is messed up? What if we could do it all over again from scratch? No more war. Nobody homeless. No more summer reading homework."
"I'm listening."
"I mean, the West represents a lot of the best things mankind ever didâthat's why the fire is still burning. That's why Olympus is still around. But sometimes you just see the bad stuff, you know? And you start thinking the way Luke does: 'If I could tear this all down, I would do it better.' Don't you ever feel that way? Like you could do a better job if you ran the world?"
Percy and I look at each other. "Um... no," he admits. "Me running the world would kind of be a nightmare."
"I agree," Percy gives me a playful glare, but I add: "No, I mean, I don't have what it takes. Leaders have stone-cold hearts."
"Hubris isn't your fatal flaw, then."
"What is?" Percy asks with curiosity.
"I don't know, Percy, but every hero has one. If you don't find it and learn to control it... well, they don't call it 'fatal' for nothing."
I shiver at the thought of having a weak spot that could kill me, but what can be dangerous for a girl like me? As long as I stay out of everyone's way, my flaw has no reason to put me in danger.
When Leo says he wants to look for Festus, Ara decides to join him. It's obvious he doesn't want company, but she won't let him go alone, not when something's after them.
She's half expecting the walk to be awkward. However, Leo's asking so many questions now that it's just the two of them again that she gets comfortable rather quickly. It doesn't feel like she's talking with a stranger, which is weird, not even Percy felt this way so soon into knowing him.
"So, what's your deal, exactly?" He fidgets with a couple of screws. "What does it mean, being the daughter of Olympus?"
"That I protect Olympus."
Leo gives her a sideways glance. "Your job isn't to fight monsters and do quests, then? Is it something more important?"
"You got it backward," she sighs. "That's exactly my job. The gods hand me tasks directly, or used to before they shut down Olympus... I go on quests and lead their armies."
Ara almost sounds bored when she talks about it, but she's only trying to hide how anxious it makes her, to have all that control over her loved ones. She didn't want to boss around her friends, she wanted to be their dependable hero.
"What happens if you fail?" He asks, the screws in his hand are ignored for a moment.
"If I'm breathing and can move, I gotta keep going."
"But my question is what happens when you can't continue a quest?"
Ara stares at him blankly. "If I fail, it means I died, there is no other option. I may be called the daughter of Olympus but the gods are not my caretakers. It hasn't happened though, lucky me."
Leo's amusement quickly vanishes. "Man, so you could die if we fail this quest?"
"Yeah. But I agreed to this."
He hesitates. "You might be a little too insane for my liking, and that's saying a lot..."
"Maybe I am," she heaves a sigh. "But I did it so they would stop using my friends..."
"How old are you?"Â Leo frowns.
"Fourteen... and a half," she adds as an afterthought.
"What!" He raises his voice. "And you're a General? I don't even have a driver's license!"
"And that's such an impediment now that you're flying a dragon," she replies sarcastically. "Don't be dumb."
"If that's an order, General, I'll have to transgress it,"Â he taunts her. It's crazy how quickly Leo can switch from being upset to acting all funny. "That's the one thing I do perfectly, don't take my dumbness away."Â
Ara sighs again, not sharing Leo's easy-going attitude. He tries again, he doesn't know why, but he likes listening to Ara's voice. It soothes him and makes his mind go slower. "So... why did the gods say yes? Why not choose someone older?"
Ara's brows knit together, she's heard this question many times before and knows that it makes sense, but it still annoys her. "I was the only one asking for it. Percy made his wish, and I still had mine, so I used it for this. The children of Olympus had been er... discontinued. I brought them back."
Leo tries to ask the following question without sounding rude, it's not coming easy. "So were you... powerful enough? Is that why they said yes?"
"I was good enough, yeah. It's a slow process, years and years of training. I convinced them 'cause I had a special set of skills."
Leo's hands are back to fidgeting. "What skills?"
Percy hides our ship behind a large rock wall, so in order to get to the top, we have to climb.
"Okay. Who first?"
They glance at me, of course they'd want me to go first, keeping an eye on the weakest link is the wise thing to do, but I'm not looking at them, I'm examining the wall.
"There's a path,"Â I inform my friends.
"What?"
"You're hallucinating, Birdy..."
"No. Follow me."
Usually, when I insist there's something I can do, they let me try. I hold onto the nearest edge, and after that, I just keep going up. I stop only when I hear someone calling my name many feet below me. I look down to discover I don't have vertigo.Â
"Why aren't you coming up?" I frown. "It's safe!"
"You're moving too fast, we can't see where you're stepping!" Annabeth pants.
"I'm fast?" I look at my hands. "Cool!"
"You don't use the lava wall back in camp, do you?" Percy raises his voice so I can hear him.
"Silena doesn't let me, she thinks I'll get hurt!"
"Well, I think she has to reconsider!" He grunts.
Festus landed on a pile of portable toilets, and both teens stare at the mess in disgust.
"Talking 'bout good fortune, huh?"
"If we had one of those cranes here it'd be easier..."Â Leo looks around with a scowl.
"I can climb his back," Ara steps forward, then stops. "Maybe throw snow on it before we..."
"What?" Leo puts his hand on the dragon's surface, then he jumps back. "Oh, rightâouch," he says in a not-so-convincing tone. When he notices the way she's looking at him, he tries to make up an excuse. "I'm very sleep-deprived."
"Stop that."
"Stop what?"
"Lying," she steps closer to him.
He smiles like he finds the conversation absurd. "Doll, I really got noâ"
"You may think I'm an air-headed Barbie, but I can tell you're full of shit," Ara seizes his wrist. "I'm tired of you and Piper hiding things from me. Tell me what's your deal, or I'll lock you up in one of the squeezed-out toilets."
Leo complains loudly as Ara squeezes his wrist. "Okay, okay! Dang, you're stronger than you look!" He scoffs. "You have to promise not to freak out, alright?"
"You better be honest," she lets go of him. "Don't worry about me, I've seen a lot of weird stuff."
"Okay..." he rubs his wrist. "I... I make fire," Leo scowls at her. "Now's when you point fingers and call me bad names."
Ara stares at him, her gaze is calculating. "Nyssa told you their superstition, didn't she?"
"No, I just guessed I'm an omen of tragedy and bad fortune!" He replies sarcastically.
"So rough life for you too, huh?" She tilts her head, ignoring his defensive tone.Â
Leo nods once, still scowling. "Good ol' demigod life."
"Well, it's not the end of the world, and I would know that. I witnessed like, three of those," she tells him. "Can you make fire out of nothing?"
"Yes," he opens one palm and small orange flames envelop it. "But I don't do this trick at parties, y'know? For obvious reasons."
"Yeah, because you don't get invited," Ara reaches out. It is real fire. "It's okay. Chiron will know how to help you."
"You think he'll want to? Because I'll be honest here, I need the training."
"I'll do it if he doesn't. You won't get better if you don't practice, and I owe it to you," Ara stretches out her palm. "Deal?"
The fire dies on Leo's hand. He stares at her unblinkingly. "You sure? I can be really hard to handle."
"I'll manage," she decides to tease him into shaking her hand. "What, afraid of getting cooties?"
Leo smiles. "Afraid of passing them, actually, but if you insist..."Â
He reaches for her hand and shakes it.Â
Tyson invites me to help him build Percy and Annabeth's chariot and I'm happy to assist him. We work side by side, and Percy and Annabeth win the race.
"We couldn't have won this race or got the Fleece or saved Grover or anything! We owe our lives to our friends, to..." Annabeth pauses and looks at the Cyclops.
Percy catches my eye and his smile widens. "My baby brother and sister! Tyson and Ara!"
Before I know it, I'm being lifted on someone's shoulders and Tyson's holding my hand. When we reach the winner's platform and I'm placed between Percy and Tyson, I feel accepted unconditionally.
Percy reaches for my hand and squeezes, I make a promise that I'll treat him as my brother forever. "We should talk later," he says under his breath.
He has a strange glint of determination in his eyes. You know when someone says "later" but they mean "never"? Well, Percy isn't that type of person. Later meant fifteen minutes forward.
Chiron and him are waiting for me in the Big House, and Percy's holding a phone. "You have a call, Birdy."
"Did I do something?" IÂ look at Chiron without understanding.
He points at the cell phone. "Don't keep them waiting."
"Hello?"Â I speak in a little frightened voice.Â
"Hi, Ara," my heart does a somersault, it's Sally Jackson.
"Hi!" I reply, too excited to even question why my friend's mom wants to talk to me. "Did Percy tell you about the rock wall? I'm the fastest climber!"
"I heard you helped Tyson build a chariot, too."
"I helped Percy sail a pirate ship too! And I used my Charmspeak with Polyphemus before he could rip offâ" My friend shakes his head frantically, so I change the subject. "Why are you calling me?"
Sally takes a moment.Â
"Well... Percy and I talked..."
I glance at Percy. "Yeah? About what?"
"You liked staying with us during Christmas, didn't you?"
"Yeah! Can I go this year too?"
"How about staying the whole year?"
I'm sure I misheard that. "Sorry?"
"I've talked to Chiron, and he can help us with the paperwork to make it happen. Percy and I agree, having you around felt right."
"Wait, make what happen?" My heart's crawling up my throat.
"We want to adopt you, Ara."
"I-I'm not an orphan," My face is getting redder.
"We know."
"I told those things to Percy 'cause he asked, I wasn't trying toâI didn't use charmspeak!"
I'm embarrassed. I mean, when your friend hears your sob story and suddenly he's like "Suprise! I'm giving you this thing you told me you wished more than anything!" It kinda feels like he's just shutting you up. I didn't want it if it was out of pity.
"Ara," Percy intercedes. "We have more than enough to welcome a second regular-size kid into our home. Having Tyson around made us realize that."
"But I can't protect you like Tyson," I insist.
"We don't want that," Sally says. "Having you is enough."
They're asking me not only to stick around but also to use their name. Be part of their family forever.Â
I look at Chiron with hopeful eyes.Â
"Can I?"
Their bodies light up in a golden hue as soon as Leo holds her hand. Ara snatches her palm away in panic, looking at the boy as if he's got two heads.
"What?" Leo stares at her anxiously. "Did I burn you?"
"I'm fine!" She replies high-pitched. "Good talk! Let'sâlet's fix Festus now!" Ara turns to face the dragon so Leo can't see her blush.Â
Gods, if her friends could see her now... No. This is not happening. That was not golden.
"Dammit!" She kicks the snow.Â
Leo's climbing the dragon but he stops halfway. "What?"
"I'm having a moment, stay out of it!" She snaps.
The boy stares at her, half-amused and half-worried. "Why are the prettiest girls always so crazy..."
"Shut up!" Ara blushes even more.
She's dreamed about this moment for quite some time, but Leo's timing is downright inconvenient at this point, so denial it is. Ara isn't gonna make things easier. It will be the slowest slow-burn the Fates have ever had the misfortune to witness.

Pubescent water Bender adventures with his friends
I'm excited and I'm going in with no clue. I read the first book once, six years ago when I was 11. I remember I enjoyed it, but I abandoned the series after seeing the horrid movie. Now coming back to it, I can see why I liked it so much. The action scenes are thrilling, and the plot twist in the first book is so easy to see now that I'm older. The descriptions are way different from when I remember them. I literally remember Grover being described as a red head but what eves. But I am currently on the third book.
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
I read this right at the beginning of the year and I'm too lazy to get my copy from upstairs, so we'll see how this goes. I actually really enjoyed the beginning of the story. I liked all the introductions to the characters and the story. One thing that took me out of it was the writing. Not that it was bad, but it felt SOOOO Childish. That's to be expected since it's literally for 12-year-olds, but the number of times I was starting to get into the story and some childish ass line appeared I was immediately taken out. Maybe I'm stupid but some of the descriptions were confusing. Like I had to re-read whole pages to really understand where we were and what was happening. Like that whole love tunnel scene or whatever, I was straight up lost. Lastly, how I felt about the characters. Grover was adorable and Percy was a solid main character. But Annabeth... Annabeth. I don't remember her being this annoying when I was younger. I know the fandom loves her but something about her rubbed me the wrong way. Like Girl was straight up mean sometimes. The number of times I paused reading and audibly said, " Girl. what's your problem." I love bad-ass female characters but ugh. It's not giving what I wanted it to be giving. Like ugh. Actually, ngl Percy kind of annoyed me. Like I know he did nothing, but for some reason I was low key rooting for Ares to win the fight. 3/5
Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters
I honestly like this book better. It was funny and the new characters were much more enjoyable. It was giving Shrek 2. I felt so smart being able to connect the dots in this book. I patted myself on the back when I guessed the Sea of Monsters was in the Bermuda Triangle. Tyson was adorable. Annabeth was a bit more tolerable. But that whole siren song scene made me annoyed. Like I felt sorry for her, but like GIRL AREN'T YOU SUPPOSED TO BE THE SMART ONE. Grover in THAT WEDDING DRESS was Iconic. Now the real star of the show was my girl Clarisse. Every scene she was in was Iconic. Like am I supposed to like her this much????WHEN THEY BROUGHT OUT MY GIRL CIRCE I WAS HERE FOR IT. As a Madeline Miller connoisseur, anyone from A song of Achilles or Circe will automatically be my favorite. Listen. Listen. I did not expect the ending of a children's book to have me shook. I know 11-year-old me would have been shaking in her boots from that ending. THALIA is back. Period. 3.5/5

OMG YES THANK YOU. Give her an analysis! Iâll start:
Annabeth from the Percy Jackson series:
She had to be independent from a very young age because the adults in her life didnât believe that spiders were torturing her, and when she ran away from home at the tender young age of 7 and teamed up with Luke and Thalia and finally thought she had a new family? Thalia is killed, and Luke becomes increasingly distant after a quest gone wrong. The only parent figure in her life who might believe her, who gave her a gift (her invisible cap), and gave her her strengths and a culture to call home, is Athena, a distant, perfect goddess. Just as Luke constantly tried to prove himself after meeting Hermes, Annabeth emulated him at a young age and is constantly trying to prove herself to Athena. Having been rejected by her family of origin, Annabeth constantly needs to prove to others that sheâs dangerous, useful, and valuable as a party member. Further, Annabeth wanted a quest not just to prove herself to her mother but to avenge what happened to Luke and Thalia, to say to herself: âIf Iâm only smart enough, I can survive anything. If Iâm only powerful enough, if I only make the perfect plan, I can fix the world.â She wants to save herself and others from the suffering she endured.
But Percy Jackson is the chosen one, and she has to make peace with that this dorky, flying-by-the-seat of his pants, seaweed-for-brains idiot with no training is given every bit of power and opportunity she craved.
But Annabeth doesnât give up, she carves out her own opportunities, and in the process, she saves Thalia. She leaves and then fights and then finally understands Luke. She makes slow amends with her father.
In seeing Percy and Grover screw up and still succeed, and how Percy and Grover are both brilliant in their own non-traditional ways, she learns that she doesnât have to be perfect. She can joke around and be a kid sometimes. The pressures on her shoulders never relent, and she usually has to be the adult in the party, but with the help of her friends, she can survive without having to be a perfect, lonely goddess.
Now letâs talk about her flaws: Annabethâs fatal flaw (as stated in the sea of monsters) is hubris. This fatal flaw is revealed in the most telling way- she wants to listen to the sirens and is arrogant enough to think she wonât have too much of a problem resisting them. She keeps her knife on her, has her friends tie her to the mast, and thinks itâll be good. She almost drowns. Her arrogance also leads to her fight with the Sphinx, and her fall into Tartarus. The thing is: No matter how much Annabeth knows her enemy, no matter how many quests she aces and how strong she is, at the end of the day, sheâll never be a goddess like her mother. I believe if, at the end of The Last Olympian, Annabeth had been offered godhood, unlike Percy, she might have taken it.
Annabethâs independence and trauma can make her avoidant of her friends and family. She doesnât try to make amends with her Dad for a long time; she doesnât pick up on the signs of Lukeâs betrayal and anger despite him being the person sheâs closest to at first. We as an audience know about virtually NObody else from her cabin (aka, her half-siblings). Sheâs really a very lonely character. Intelligence sometimes breeds distance, and it seems like itâs hard for her to talk with Percy or Grover about her more niche/philosophical interests, not because they wonât listen, but because they might not understand and have little to add to continue the conversation. A lot of the time she ends up talking at her friends instead of with them and then tinkering with her ideas and projects alone (Though this might be more out of storytelling necessity than anything else, a character trait born out of the burden of being the primary Lore Exposition character- she does seem to enjoy teaching others most of the time!)
Annabethâs knowledge is her strength, but she thinks that if she knows something, she can control/conquer it, which isnât usually the case. Because she believes this, sheâs constantly hungry for knowledge to protect herself and her friends, and she can go to great lengths for her insatiable curiosity. There are two types of Annabeth curiosity: angry and determined because she needs this knowledge to survive, and idle pondering/wonder of discovery which is when sheâs usually at her happiest. Knowledge is power, and Annabeth wants to be powerful.
Annabethâs an accomplished architect at 18.
Annabeth was an oopsie baby (on her fatherâs end).
Annabeth is full of anger and is constantly âthinking of the best way to take a person down in a fight.â Her hyper vigilance is likely a survival tactic from her many, many layers of trauma.
Annabeth cares deeply about others, she takes the weight of the sky from Luke despite his betrayal. She sacrifices herself for her friends on an uncountable number of occasions. Sheâs incomprehensibly brave and will die fighting tooth and nail.
Annabeth is terrified of spiders.
Does anyone wanna share another analysis of a female character who often gets reduced to the brain cell in folksâ character analyses? :3
E.g. Hermione (HP), Nami (Once Piece), Barbara Gordon (Birds of Prey, Batman), Velma (Scooby-Doo), Haruhi (Ouran Highschool Host Club), Lisa Simpson (The Simpsons), Dana Scully (the X-files), Leslie Knope (Parks and Rec), Shuri (Black Panther), Bulma (Dragon Ball Z), Amy Santiago (B99), Katara (Atla), Cassandra Cain (Batman), Cassie Sandsmark (Young Justice), Wendy (Peter Pan), Pepper Potts (Iron Man), Lucy (Fairy Tail), Nancy Wheeler (Stranger Things), Sakura (Naruto), Jazz (Danny Phantom), April OâNeil (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Wanda (The Fairly Odd Parents), Sandy Cheeks (SpongeBob), Kim Possible (Kim Possible), Tiana (The princess and the frog), sometimes Marcille (Dungeon Meshi), Frankie (Fosterâs home for imaginary friends), etc. so many female characters reduced to taking care of the men in their lives by fandom, analysis, or writers.
this has been discussed before but reducing female characters to the girlboss braincell holder in the name of combating misogyny in fandom is ironically also a form of misogyny
