i love seeing people think about all the things percy did for annabeth but we forget a lot of the things she did for him. she trusted percy in SoM to keep her safe while she listened to the sirens song. she gave up immortality as a hunter for him in TTC, long before he did the same in TLO. she broke the rules to sit with percy at dinner in BotL. she entrusted her own quest to percy, even though she had been hoping for it all her life. she was the one speaking at his funeral, not grover, not chiron, she was the one declaring her feelings for him. for hells sake she took a knife for him because she ‘had a feeling’ it was important. she was the one counting down the hours he had been missing is TLH and was the first person off of the Argo II in MoA because she was so worried about percy. she is just as in love with percy as he is with her and the fandom just doesn’t show it.

Ok, I wanted to talk about Annabeth being the reincarnation of Odysseus.
First of all, yes, Annabeth and not Percy. Here's why: they have the same fatal flaw (hubris), fight in similar ways (relying heavily in words and tricks), as well as this comparison being made in the Sea of Monsters itself several times, in which Annabeth (Odysseus) calls herself Nobody (again) to the Cyclops, is the one that wanted to tied herself to listen to the sirens (I know that part was changed in Epic, but let's pretend not for the sake of the intention of the comparison in the book), etcetera. In addition, I know Percy going insane when someone hurts Annabeth is something the whole fandom agrees, which is something he and Odysseus share, but let's be honest, Annabeth does not play about him neither. I would say she went even more nuts about him missing in HOO than he did when she went missing in Titan Curse. Percy could also totally be Penelope, considering their loyalty.
That being said, what I wanted to focus on this post is Athena, and how she made the same mistake again with another version of her protégée, this time her daughter. If we consider that the events of Epic are what happened in PJO, not only Athena (or Minerva, so close enough) abandoned Odysseus again in The Mark of Athena, but she said to Annabeth that she wished Odysseus was there because he would understand the map (that's a line about that in the book). She compared Annabeth to Odysseus, not realising they are the same soul.
Also, if the events of Epic happened in PJO, then it means Athena gave up of creating a world where people held each other with a little more empathy, like she said she wished to do in "I can't help but wonder". She had probably tried for a few centuries, became kinder. I even think that might be why she started to have demigods children: to a child of Athena to be born she needs a real connection with a mortal, which she didn't allow herself before Odysseus. However, with the pass of time (my personal belief is that the Romans treatment towards her would be a main factor in that), she went back to be colder. She has a ruthless father who didn't support her mission to be kinder and told her to be away from her kids, as well as humans who didn't pay her the same respect as they used to.
Then it came Annabeth, this child, her child, who is her favourite, and part of that it's because she reminds her of her favourite champion, her first friend, even if she doesn't acknowledge that. Unaware to her, they are the same person, and this time she's his mother. This version of Odysseus looks up to her so much because her mortal family couldn't understand her and she still carries the admiration Odysseus felt towards her, but without any of the bad memories.
And yet.
Yet Athena breaks her (his) trust again. Yet Athena disapproves Percy (Penelope), who in any life, Odysseus (Annabeth) would do anything for. More than that, Athena is one of the main reasons that Annabeth took so long to accept Percy as the love of her life.
So Annabeth (Odysseus) resents her again, and when Athena realises who her daughter is (because I am sure she would eventually) it's already too late. She made the same mistake, and she can hear a voice in her head calling her "Selfish and prideful and vain", but this time, this voice sounds like Annabeth's.

Percy Jackson headcanons Part 3
-Percy has a siren’s voice. When he sings or hums, the attention of anyone in the vicinity is drawn to him.
-Also, Percy is definitely a huge Queen fan
-Annabeth has a spray bottle of salt water
-Jason  listens to classical music (he just looks like he would)
-Reyna is a fucking demon at pillow fights for some unexplained reason
-Thalia likes strawberry Mentos
-Also has a dart board up with a picture of Luke in the center (she consistently hits her mark)
-Leo sleeps in a fetal position
-Frank likes stormy weather and stratus clouds
-Also a frequent user of “gee willickers” or “golly gee”
-Will is an avid Beatles listener
-Austin always has cork grease in his pocket
-His favorite fruit is the mango as well
-Leo listens to Tyler, the Creator
-Frank occasionally listens to Viking music  (no explanation why)
-Nico loves analog horror
-Will watches it with him
-Piper HATES harpies after her several encounters with them

what if like the conflict is that after an abduction, a coma, amnesia, being branded and a quest percy is straight up like if you don't take me to see my mom right now im capsizing the ship and all of you on it
in his mind he needs to reassure her and also himself that he's alive and back to normal and he'll only stay long enough to hug her and maybe make a goddamn coffee.
annabeth takes his side, ofc, but she recognizes the fact there's a 80% chance percy will refuse to leave his mom and that she'll be right there parked on sally's couch with him if given the opportunity. its not the best thing for the quest, her mom or the whole world but haven't they earned the right to be selfish yet?
frank and hazel are split; frank's also a momma's boy, he gets it, he'd dragged them to his grandma's house for safety sure but it wasn't purely altruistic of him; but he doesn't know how to balance his respect for percy and his respect for duty (chronically roman).
Hazel... she's the most sympathetic and she loves percy, she knows he deserves and needs this even if he won't admit it like that. percy told her stories about sally as the memories drifted back in and she'd give anything to have that kind of love she doesn't want to begrudge her friend that. but she also knows that they're on a time limit and her only living family is in trouble.
leo and piper, on the other hand, don't get it. sure leo would burn the ship to hug his mom but he never will be able to, maybe maybe saving the world will mean he at least gets a word of praise from his dad. or they do logically but quests are important right? especially when they've put so much work into this one, building the boat, going to camp jupiter as greeks, 6 months of their lives! they need to save the world! that line hasn't lost its value to them yet, the idea the hope that they are special after all, that they're heroes and not just outcast kids still lingers. most importantly, they don't know percy, they've heard stories of how impulse and irresponsible he is and they'll always back jason.
because jason fucking hates percy. they fight worse than percy and thalia did that winter in titan's curse bc at least those two had annabeth in common. to jason, percy replaced him as praetor after not earning it at all, replaced him as thalia's brother, replaced him as the most powerful and respected demigod. his father is king and lawmaker and percy defies the gods at every instance and they still love him - percy's father loves him. his mother. percy has a mom that he would kill to get back to, that fought to keep him at her side, and jason's mom left him with a wolf before he could talk. he blames the anger on his roman sense of duty telling him that the quest is first priority but its really just jealousy too deep seated to name.
adding to the "there should have been more genuine tension within the seven" train of thought, it would have been funny if the Argo II, technically being a ship, meant it fell under Percy's power domain and he could control it all at whim, rendering all the carefully crafted controls Leo built useless if Percy felt like being an asshole

whenever anyone asks someone their favorite percabeth moment from the pjo series everyone’s always like “oh the underwater kiss for sure. it was so cute. idk how anyone could think otherwise!” and don’t get me wrong, it’s cute and i do love it , but if you ask me, i know that’s not gonna be my answer. i’m gonna say “definitely in the sea of monsters when annabeth hears the sirens and percy comforts her.” i mean, is nobody gonna talk about how genuinely sweet but heartbreaking that was? annabeth listens to the sirens and sees herself with a happy family and luke who never turned evil. that was all she wanted. and keep in mind, they’ve only known each other for about a year. so when percy goes up and just holds her while she cries??? so yes, that is my favorite moment in the whole dang series, not just between them.

You know what scene I’m going to be distraught if we don’t get in the show (due to it being cancelled after season 1 or any other reason)?
The sirens scene in Sea of Monsters.
Percy with his wax ear plugs. Annabeth having him tie her to the mast so she can listen. The frantic swim toward the beach when she escapes. Percy seeing her siren dream when he catches up to her. Percy and Annabeth hugging at the bottom of the ocean.
I will be distraught if we don’t get to see that.

The scene in which Percy witnesses the siren’s call to Annabeth
I think about this moment all the time. Annabeth insists on listening to the sirens, because of course she does. After she escapes, Percy manages to catch her and when he does, he is able to see her vision. In it, Fredrick Chase, Athena, and Luke welcome Annabeth into a redesigned New York, one that Annabeth herself presumably designed. It was grander than Mount Olympus.
But while everything in this new world was seemingly perfect, it was missing one thing. It didn’t feature her best friend, Percy Jackson. But there is a specific reason for this.
Its because Percy didn’t need fixing.
Everything in Annabeth’s vision was something that was broken in her life. Her relationship with her parents, their relationship with each other, Luke’s betrayal, and the world as a whole being rife with homeless and war. Each of the pieces of her vision were broken.
And Annabeth was the one to fix them. Her perfect world featured all of the broken pieces of her life fixed. But Percy wasn’t there,
Because Percy didn’t need fixing
Annabeth didn’t see Percy as broken, so she didn’t feel as if he needed fixing. He was really the one stable piece of her life, her best friend, and he didn’t need fixing.
She truly loved him enough that even her fatal flaw of hubris couldn’t touch him.
That is why Percy Jackson wasn’t in Annabeth Chase’s vision. Not because she didn’t see him as an important part of her life, but because he didn’t need fixing.
And if that isn’t love, I don’t know what is

I genuinely don't know why Annabeth has a reputation for being emotionless, cold, and stoic in the fandom. But I see all the time, Annabeth is a young girl to a young woman who is always emotional. she always wears her emotions on her sleeve, positive and negative. One of Annabeth's biggest character traits is how much she cares
In the lightning thief, she was the one who had to convince Percy to say hello to Gladiola, she's the one who tells him that she will fight on his side no matter what if war breaks out, even if Athena fights on Zeus' side, because she is his friend. She's the one who opens up about her fear of spiders, that she isn't sure if she is actually good enough to be out in the real world where the monsters are.
In the sea of Monsters she punches a bully for bullying Percy, she cries at least twice in the book, once because of Luke and another because she listened to the Sirens. She apologizes for treating Tyson like crap and opens up to Percy about why.
In Titans' curse she rides a manticore off a cliff to save her friends. She takes the sky from Luke because she sees he's in pain.
In Battle for the Labyrinth she stops in the middle of a competition to comfort Juniper because the other girl is upset. She weeps in front of Percy because despite finally leading a quest she feels responsible if any of her friends get hurt. She does her best to get Nico to join them because she knows how it is to be a kid alone in their world. She kisses Percy when they are forced to split up. She is in so much pain when she has to give a eulogy at Percy's funeral even though he's alive. She all but curses out Daedalus when she finds out the other child of Athena has done. she breaks down when she sees Luke is taken over by Kronos and despite herself she trudges forward the second they get a clue about Grover and tyson because she loves of friends so much.
There are so many instances of every book after I can't even bother listing them. Annabeth is not perfect, but just because she is the smart kid doesn't mean she's cold and emotionless. Annabeth burns hot and bright with all of her emotions she is the farthest thing from cold dam it. She loves so dam hard and much that it hurts, nothing about her is cold and detatched

couldn't help but think constantly about season 2, like we are getting introduced to new characters (and new cast members 💓💓), but mostly because of annabeth. i've always seen som and botl as annabeth's books, they let you understand her personality, what she wants, what she is.
so there's some of the annabeth's moments that i really exacted/hope to see in the next season cause i know leah would EAT these parts yeah
“we could use your intelligence” “because you have none on your own!”
on princesse adromeda where luke is talking to both annabeth and percy, and he tries to convince annabeth to join him, pushing on something that he knows annabeth is extremely attached to, her intelligence. annabeth tries to stay strong, to don't freak out about how, her long time friend, her brother has turned out. even with this sense of sadness she is always the sassy little queen that we have been introduced in the first book !
CC.
i love the scene at circe's. and i can't wait and i do really HOPE to see the reyna/hilla cameo. i guess this scene is important because in some ways we see annabeth give up immortality for percy. and this is just the first time.
the whole backstrory with cyclops and it will be even better if we get some flashbacks
every single memory from her childhood is important to the construction of her character, there wouldn't be annabeth if there wasn't her memories. i guess this part of her story is important to let the reader (and in future the watcher) think about how much bad things annabeth went though since the age of seven. she has been fighting monsters since she was seven.
the sirens scene
okay, this is mostly percabeth BUT i just love how determined annabeth is in that scene, yeah i know that lot of people would consider her actions pretty stupid but be honest with yourself. first of all she was 13, she was a child, second thing, because of that we are getting introduced to her fatal flaw, pride. in that moment annabeth didn't know if she would had another chance to listen to the sirens so she took the opportunity that she had.
“ Three people sat on a picnic blanket in Central Park. A feast was spread out before them. I recognized Annabeth’s dad from photos she’d shown me-an athletic-looking, sandy-haired guy in his forties. He was holding hands with a beautiful woman who looked a lot like Annabeth. She was dressed casually-in blue jeans and a denim shirt and hiking boots-but something about the woman radiated power. I knew that I was looking at the goddess Athena. Next to them sat a young man … Luke.
The whole scene glowed in a warm, buttery light. The three of them were talking and laughing, and when they saw Annabeth, their faces lit up with delight. Annabeth’s mom and dad held out their arms invitingly. Luke grinned and gestured for Annabeth to sit next to him-as if he’d never betrayed her, as if he were still her friend.
Behind the trees of Central Park, a city skyline rose. I caught my breath, because it was Manhattan, but not Manhattan. It had been totally rebuilt from dazzling white marble, bigger and grander than ever-with golden windows and rooftop gardens. It was better than New York. Better than Mount Olympus. ”
this part is just so extremely dear to me. we see what annabeth really wanted. her dad, her mom, her brother and her biggest desire to create building because she wants to be remembered through them. the things that we don't see in this scene are percy and thalia. thalia, she is gone, annabeth would neved see her again so why even think about her as someone who would come back in her life, and percy. percy, that she already consideres as her percy. she knows that she already has him in her life. this scene is so sad and full of meaning we see the cruelest desire that annabeth has. she wants her family back. she wants to be someone one day. and she wants to feel proud of herself.

i need to reread the sea of monsters before i explain my thoughts but:
When comparing odypen to percabeth, annabeth is more closely related to odysseus in my opinion. again, i need to reread the som to pull out very specific evidence for my reasoning but one reason is the siren scene.
in the original odyssey, odysseus orders his crew to fill their ears with wax to avoid listening to the sirens. he, however, doesn’t plug his ears and has his crew tie him up, so when he hears the sirens, he doesn’t jump off.
in som, annabeth tells percy to do the exact same thing. she wanted to listen to the sirens (like odysseus) and told percy to tie her up so she doesn’t try to get in the water. (although, she does end up cutting loose and tries to swim to sirens before percy stops her, but i digress)

Percy: Annabeth, I love you, but you're an idiot. You have a thousand dumbass ideas every fucking day.
Annabeth: Name one idea I've had that was idiotic.
Percy: Wanting to listen to the fucking sirens and then almost dying, arguing with the Sphinx because the riddles weren't good enough for you, that time you wanted to-
Annabeth: AH AH AH, I said one idea, Percy! And fuck you! You're not better than me. You pissed off a war god when you were twelve and then continued to piss him off! You threw yourself into a volcano! You tried to ride that gryphon we found because "it's basically just like a pegasus".
Percy: IT WAS BASICALLY LIKE A PEGASUS. It's not my fault it couldn't get with the program!
Nico: Oh my god, you're both so fucking stupid. Neither of you should be allowed to do anything, or make any decisions for yourselves.
Percy: I will not take this slander from the kid who tripped into Tartarus because "it's just my dad's basement, what could go wrong".
Nico: At least I didn't throw myself into the pit because I'm too attached to my girlfriend to understand what danger is.
Annabeth: No, you just talked the boy you were in love with into drowning himself in the Styx because you thought it would make him love you back.
Nico: Well, he fucking did end up loving me back, so what's your point, Annabeth?

yk what would be completely heart wrenching for Rick to do in season two?
add odysseus and telemachus parallels.
like (spoilers) if you haven’t read the books, annabeth decided to get tied up and listen to the sirens like odysseus, and it would be cool but sad if we get a mini parallel to Odysseus, like a little scene for a few seconds then it cuts back to annabeth.
And for Telemachus it’s just Percy being a momma’s boy.
-Penelope anon
Omg that would be so cool! I never really got into the books, but I know they’re really good! & he seems like the kind of writer to draw inspiration/make parallels, so I think it could be a pretty strong possibility!

BOOK/SHOW SPOILERS AHEAD
Okay just one more post for the night which is gonna be a bit of a tangent but I just have so much pride for these kids and yeah there's room for growth but they're already doing such a fantastic job and I'm excited to see where they go from here but okay okay here's another call for applause for Leah's portrayal of Annabeth for a reason I haven't seen talked about a whole lot: her emotions.
I saw a post a while back explaining that in the books Annabeth is made to be this genius who's ruled by logic, but in actuality we're given so many instances where it's the exact opposite and that she's actually driven by her emotions. Her excitement about architecture makes her want to see the Arch, her curiosity makes her want to listen to the siren's song, her sense of protection over Percy drives her to take a stab wound for him, her love for Percy keeps her going refusing to give up searching for him when he goes missing. So many of her decisions favor emotion and are to the detriment of logic despite the fact that she's still so smart and in pursuit of wisdom. But I think this juxtaposition of her character makes her so compelling and relatable, especially in a world where the narrative is so driven by relationships between characters. And I think Leah is already showing us that compelling juxtaposition in her Annabeth magnificently. In the show she's smart, assertive, and strategic. But she's also vulnerable and protective, and when Percy shows her that she doesn't have to prove herself to be worthy of love she grows hopeful--even lamenting that maybe she was once like him too (before she got turned into a child soldier). Leah's Annabeth is so brainy, but it's her emotional performance that has really brought her to life for me. Kudos to Leah Sava Jeffries.

Ok so, as I said yesterday I'm rereading Sea of Monsters and I've gotta admit, there are a lot of parts that I didn't remember from it that deserve more appreciation.
(Long post incoming! 😅)
One of them that I really want to talk about is after Annabeth listens to the siren song and learns that her fatal flaw is hubris. When she was listening to the sirens, she saw a scene of her father and Athena happily together, along with Luke all sitting in central park. Surrounding them is a new Manhattan that Annabeth has built and it looks so much better than the western civilization that the gods have built.
When she's telling Percy about her fatal flaw, she talks about how the west represents a lot of the greatest things to ever come from mankind, but how your view starts to change when all you can see are the bad things. She says that would make someone start to think more like Luke. That if she could tear everything down and start everything a new, that she would be able to run and build things better. That if she could rebuild it, the world wouldn't be as messed up. There would be no more war, nobody homeless and left on the streets to fend for themselves.
And this is absolutely correct, this is essentially why Luke is doing this all to begin with. This is his core goal (purely Luke's and not Kronos). To make a better world for everyone. Where no one would have to go what he and countless others had been through. So that maybe others would be able to see the good in the world after all his life he had only been shown the bad.
But then there are these couple paragraphs after that. Those are super interesting to me and it gives so much insight on the universe and how certain people think.
"She (Annabeth) gazed into the distance. 'I'm not sure. But we have to save camp. If we don't stop Luke...'
She didn't need to finish. If Luke's way of thinking could even tempt Annabeth, there was no telling how many other half-bloods might join him."
First thing to remember, this is all from Percy's perspective. These are all his own thoughts and how he thinks about things. So I think the way Percy speaking about Annabeth in the last paragraph kinda shows how he tends to think of her as strong for not thinking like Luke. Like Luke is kind of weak for thinking the way he does about things needing to change and rebelling against the gods. But also like Luke's way of thinking of his envisioning of a better world without the gods in control is, in itself, something dangerous.
Now, to the other demigods, if the gods were to fall and those demigods were to join Luke's/ Kronos's side, then... It really wouldn't be that dangerous for them. At least not much more dangerous than it is for them now with the gods ruling over everything. Because the gods and Titans are very much the same.
But ultimately, my main point is, Percy seems to have this underlying fear and aversion to anyone doing anything to go against the gods. But why? Why when we see that he is to his core, more on the rebellious side? Much like the ocean, Percy doesn't like to be restrained.
Because, he's been influenced by the gods and camp (especially Chiron). He's been steered to believe that even the thought of going against the gods is wrong and shouldn't be done. He's had Chiron who's been telling him that the gods falling out of power would be the worst thing to ever happen. One god in particular (ahem, Hermes) has used Percy's strong sense of loyalty and family to lead him, to manipulate him farther and put in his head that turning his back on his family (in this case the gods) is something that you should never do.
And it's not just Percy who has been raised to think this way, it's a lot of the other demigods at camp who stay loyal to the gods until their final breaths. Who stay loyal to them even as they watch their siblings die left and right before their eyes.
And Kronos is doing this exact same thing to Luke. It's the same thing that Kronos would've done to his subjects if he would've won the war. There is no difference between the gods and the Titans and, once again, Percy and Luke showcase that perfectly.
And people who believe that the gods are better than the Titans like to bring up the line from TLT when Luke says something along the lines of "the ones who serve Kronos will be treated well and be powerful, the others who don't will be killed."
Yeah, the gods do the exact same thing. They kill or torture anyone who defies them, and gives power to the ones who serve them. We have plenty of examples of this, two major ones are right in the last chapters of The Last Olympian. Luke rebelled against the gods, as he was fated to, and he died as he was fated to, along with most of the other traitors. And Percy, the one who had served the gods the most, he was offered godhood. Power. So yeah, there really is no difference between them.
But I just think it's so interesting how those two paragraphs can give so much insight into how Percy views things. And this is just from the second book. And the book that tends to be most people's least favorite book in the series.
