There’s something so eerie yet perfect about the way Lena Hall sings the song Angry Inch
On one hand, unlike to AMAB actors who have played Hedwig, she doesn’t have the experience of having a dick so one could assume it would be harder to imagine it being taken away. But the thing that’s so strange is that there’s something about the way she sings that song that makes it feel like she truly gets Hedwig.
She plays the song with a burning anger rather than the usual choice by Hedwig actors to be making light of the situation (I laugh, because I will cry if I don’t), it’s like she’s tapping into all the frustration of Being A Woman and weaving THAT into the performance instead. That’s just a theory: idk what part of herself tapping into but it’s SO, SO working.
in conclusion lena hall has made it to my top 3 Hedwig portrayals.

it actually makes me unnecessarily angry when people talk about how type o negative wrote 'angry inch' like no !! that's not something that happened
especially when they say that the band was mocking trans people like ... they mightve been but FIRST this isn't their song this is a cover and SECOND the original was not supposed to mock trans people its actually from a completely heart breaking life changing story
ALSO the amount of views on the song angry inch by type o negative is almost more than the movie recording and the nph broadway recording of the song combined and the comments are clueless about the origin which kind of gets me sad because the musical deserves so much more rep
"angry inch is my favorite type o negative song!!" i have no issue with that but maybe your true love of type o negative was the friends we made along the way
PLEASE watch hedwig bbs

my problem really deeply is how shallow a tolerance younger people have for old queer media. like yes, it's dated and some of the politics don't hold water anymore, but to ignore older media simply based on that is to loose EVERYTHING we have bc we don't have a lot. just because queer themes caught up more recently doesn't mean we should rehash everything to fit into a more "presentable" format that is only considered modern bc of the puritanical blacklash of the last several years and sanitization of queer themes.

Not to get too autobiographic, but some of you clearly didn't watch "Velvet Goldmine" and "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" in your late teens to early twenties and made it your whole personality and it's showing. xD If I have to read one more post saying that Rockstar Lestat / "Long Face" is cringe… it's CAMP. That's the word you're looking for! CAMP!!! Just like an 18th century bisexual blond french mentally unstable drama queen would be! <3
On a more serious note, I have seen a lot of people worrying about how the tonal shift will work and...
Watch those two movies! I beg you! Ten times so if you're a queer person! They are incredibly good and especially Hedwig will give you a very good idea of where they seem to be going with the storytelling!
It's a framing device! Dubai had a vastly different tone from New Orleans/Paris and yet the overall tone worked perfectly! Why should this not work in the same way - just with a bit more fun! Some parts of Lestat's story are truly and deeply horrific, we need a balance and this will do the job so well!
The tonal change is part of the experience! This is the same whiplash every book reader had when going from IwtV to TLV. Enjoy and embrace it! To quote Lestat: Now we're having fuuuuuuuuun!

Discovering that Moist Von Lipwig was originally meant to be named Moist Von Hedwig after Hedwig of Angry inch fame but was changed because of copyright fears about H*rry P*tter makes me feel like I've just watched my spectacular aunt who I just united with be shot before I could rediscover our family connection

i know a lot of people have mentioned this, but i’m just obsessed with the way taylor refused to sanitize herself on this album. she’s telling you everything. she got off to gross men whilst already in another relationship. she fell for the most obvious lies because she wanted to believe them. she was mad at anyone who tried to warn her. yes, she’s still mad at you for clutching your pearls and watching her like a circus animal btw. she’s having his baby—no she’s not! she just likes trolling. she does really want babies, though. like a lot. she felt like she’d been abducted by aliens and found cosmic love, but in reality, she was manic. and then he fucking ghosted her! and he didn’t even measure up in any measure of a man!!!!! and now she’s devastated by him and his predecessor! she feels like a wondrous prophet one day and the desperate victim of a curse the next. btw he knows how to ball and she knows aristotle. and fuck kim k! also man sex with certain men kinda fucked her up, but at least the writing that came from it defined her legacy. the manuscript isn’t hers anymore. she hopes this insane ass manuscript won’t have to be hers, either! free her of these stories.
