Got back from Planet Comicon with such a great haul of art! And a phone charm. 🤩 Let’s go over the art first.

These are all so sick. Most of them were “buy 2, get one free” so my wife and I went on a shopping spree. The Hollow Ichigo, Gear 5 Luffy, and inky Hollow Knight prints are from shanesauerart on Instagram. The other Hollow Knight prints on the right are from @itsmandymo here on Tumblr and other platforms (I have their business card in another photo). The Splatoon 3 Deep Cut print is from Andy Kluthe (again, business card in another photo). The Mario print at the top is from Amourable Art (business card photo). I actually have three other prints I got from them last year of Ichigo, Luffy and the Elric Brothers.

My wife also got some prints from them this time of Howl’s Moving Castle and Majora’s Mask.

All in all, some pretty cool stuff. BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!

These lovely Bleach, Chainsaw Man, and Samurai Jack prints are from Sketch Cartel who can be found on Instagram. I also got a print from them last year of Sukuna and Yuji from Jujutsu Kaisen.

They’re all so pretty. 🤩 Now, this next photo is all of the business card we acquired for some of the artists mentioned above.

Finally, the last thing I got was THIS!

A Magnemite phone charm! Isn’t it adorable? FYI, I’ve owned the Bleach phone case for about a month or two now. It’s not new but it is neat. Anyway, this little guy was being sold with other Pokémon merch not normally found outside of Japan. So that’s pretty neat.

All in all, I had a pretty great time at Planet Comicon and can’t wait to go again next year. I’ve been to it about five times and had a blast each time. This October, they’re gonna open a new sister con, Planet Anime. I am stoked for that. More cool art to add to my collection!!! And maybe some autographs from english dub voice actors. 🤩

The meditating panda came in one of those collectible boxes where you don’t know what you’re getting. It could have been one of six different figures. I literally squealed when I opened it and saw that I got the panda. Pandas are one of my top favorite animals!

Zebruh Coddak sure does sound an awful lot like Aaron Diaz -- who made the quasi-controversial webcomic -- Dresden Codak. The same webcomic artist who coincidentally, with no association to Zebruh whatsoever, pushes against sexualization and objectification of women in media and simultaneously champions his own frankly not safe for work-work as though it's activism. In a vein similar to "be a good ally by choosing to date me". But it seems the names came after the designs; could be coincidence.

oh right i was tangentially aware of that comic, especially around the time that whole weird thing with the main character happened some years back. Codak never really did anything for me, but the art is kind of neat. In general most webcomics dont really interest me, which i guess is kind of hypocritical of me? But most of the ones I really liked either fizzled out or the creator moved on to other things (Krazy Larry and Return to Sender come to mind)

Most of the other webcomics I either flat-out hated (VG Cats) or eventually changed so much that I didn’t like what they became (PA, PVP) and well, 90% of webcomics just don’t hold my attention because after a while they all blur together (i’m video games! i’m fantasy epic! i’m slice-of-life newspaper strip!). Not that any of that is bad, I’m just very clearly not the target audience for it.

(again, total hypocrite here because i’ve done all these types of webcomics too, and props for anyone still keeping up with theirs because its hard to do)

I dont know why this just spiraled me into a tangent on webcomics but. I guess long story short - most comics are mediocre, some webcomics are horribly problematic, the best webcomics usually get their creators picked up to work on better things. it’s a weird part of the comics industry.

to end on a good note, you should check out these webcomics: Cosmic Dash, Jasper Gold, MGDMT, Nocturne, Flux Destiny, anything Andy Kluthe does. I know I’m forgetting a lot of good stuff tho... sorry!
