The noise canceling headphones, the awkward thumbs up, the fact if you look at my left thumb you can tell I’m forcing it to not bend back bc I have a hitchhiker thumb, the giant bug, the fact I begged my friend to take a picture of me in front of the giant bug in a children’s museum, the fact if you could see my tote bag it’s got a fish pattern all over it literally just my magnum opus. The Twin Cities are actually genuinely the geekiest place I have ever lived. Like you wouldn't think that would be something that would be as geographic culturally, but no, between us having the oldest sci-fi bookstore in the US (as well as one of the oldest science fiction and fantasy conventions in the country, which is still going), a thriving filk scene and another decades-old, fan-run convention that's one of the most successful of its kind, one of the better and more interesting Renfaires I've visited, a thriving SCA and Star Wars cosplay club presence, and a long history of supporting independent bookstores and public broadcasting, there is a definite geeky Energy here unlike other cities I've been to before.

Maybe it has something to do with it being below freezing outside 4-5 months out of the year, so people have found other ways to amuse themselves, or maybe it's just one of those things where one larger generation of fans begets another, but it's another thing I truly like about living here.

Also I now understand how the state of Minnesota birthed MST3K.

one of the few problems with starting to find success in your emerging artist career is you can no longer go to the musuem stoned to visit at some Helen Frankenthaler pieces that are your friends and see the new photography exhibition, but noooooooo once you start networking you run into someone everywhere and so you'll be looking at these rad photos and you'll run into a gallery owner you know and he'll introduce you to the photographer of the exhibit! bc he also knows everyone and so you have to quick be a professional and be charming! and then you're too anxious to really catch up with the Frankenthalers or take in the photos and you leave the musuem after like twenty minutes
