In terms of things I don't like to do, well writing Americans is a pain in the arse but what can u do... I also don't love writing a lot of kid stuff so off to another sleepover go you Marcus, latez. there has been more moments than i can count in the past seven months where i felt destroyed by all the death and carnage i've seen due to the colonialism and imperialism of the world. but there was something in particular about hind's death that made me think the world would stop turning bc how could anything continue given how gruesome and inhumane her death was? and yet, the world did not stop. and i thought we were once again left to remember her story only in our minds as she became another number, as her murderers went on killing unpunished, and as her mother grieved with rage when all she wanted was to keep her daughter warm and as safe as she could manage in this man-made hell on earth.

however, hind, a girl who only got to experience her kindergarten graduation, is now being immortalized in universities across the nation. her story did resonate to the masses and we will not let her be forgotten nor forgive those complicit in her death. real justice would be having hind alive, but these students are showing that they will stop the world and burn the status quo it upholds to the ground if it means her people can truly be liberated.

I just thought Capitano is the kind of guy who unintentionally can speak of his lover for a long time, until someone stops him. Sure, in trailer all he said is "Hm", but I'm telling you, in expedition with him, Varka, Mika and favonius soldiers learned a lot about you simply because Capitano kept talking and others were too scared of him to actually call him out

Then in Natlan, he'll talk to Traveler respectfully, only when needed, but as soon as Paimon asks why he takes so much photos and for who or whose *insert item* he's wearing (I feel like Capitano's lover will give him something like a good luck charm) and he'll start talking about you and oh boy, while Traveler and Paimon want to meet you (mostly bc they're curious who's that person who manged to form a relationship with #1 of Harbingers), they also regret asking anything and think how they can tactically leave. And it happens every time someone asks Capitano anything related to his lover

It's not unknown that Capitano is a quiet man, even when he speaks he's straight to the point, not wasting time on anything unnecessary. He much prefers for his actions (or blade) to do the talking. But there are a few souls who have witnessed the Captain's mouth run on for longer, much to their surprise (said people still haven't gotten over it, except Varka. That guy knew exactly what he was doing when he met the Harbinger, he wasn't scared at all. Though he didn't mention the abrupt talkativeness because he much enjoyed seeing this side of Capitano. Even gave him some romantic advice!)

It was the same with the Traveler, he was a bit interested in them from listening to the tales of his soldiers, but his calm demeanor remained the same. He was really just focused on his mission for the Fatui - the Gnosis and whatnot, and secondly, his mission for you - getting the perfect gifts as an apology for leaving you for so long. Needless to say, he's gotten the hang of it after having to go on so many expeditions. (And his agents secretly drop hints during conversations with him, because they're the #1 Reatano shippers.)

Of course, Paimon is nosy as usual and can't help but ask about the Capitano's peculiar habits. Or wonder why someone as strong as him needs something as tiny as a good luck charm. (Can't blame her much though, it's not every day you see the Harbinger doing such... normal things.) Capitano then mentions his marriage to you very simply - he's not ever embarrassed or reluctant to say he's with you, plus he trusts the Traveler to a certain degree that they'd never hurt you. Traveler and Paimon nearly explode on the spot.

A Harbinger?! Married?! Happily married too?! And he's this dedicated to you?! Who. Are. YOU?! They try to pry a bit more for info, but even more to their surprise, he offers up more things about you (though he knows the limit - he won't ever compromise your safety.) But at the same time, he can't help but talk about you - you're just that amazing there are so much things about you that he notices every time he sees you again after ages. You- you're just so-

god what really gets me about dead boy detectives and what i think i love so much about the show and the relationships in it is that like. the romantic and sexual relationships aren't portrayed as being more unique or important than the platonic relationships. they're all just RELATIONSHIPS.

charles and crystal's attraction to each other and eventual hookup isn't this big end-all be-all relationship that shatter charles and edwin's friendship and draws charles' attention away from edwin; it's just a THING that happens. they're just two people that care about each other and happen to also be attracted to each other, and a hook-up happens, then they decide that neither of them are in the right place for it and it's nothing awful. crystal kisses charles, but it isn't some big spectacle of her declaring her love for him; it's just her saying goodbye and that she cares about him, like her hugs with niko and jenny and her handshake with edwin.

edwin realizes he loves charles romantically and tells him, and charles says he doesn't really love edwin romantically BACK, but it's okay, because they still love each other so much in so many other ways that this one tiny difference could never change them—and it doesn't!! they're still just as close, still care for each other just as much, still SHOW that care for each other just as much. their relationship didn't completely end because edwin loved charles in a way charles couldn't reciprocate, but at the same time it isn't "solved" by edwin getting over it, because there's nothing TO solve. it's just another type of love, added to everything that already exists between them. and they have LITERALLY FOREVER to figure out what it means.

the relationships between edwin & niko, crystal & niko, and crystal & edwin aren't given any less weight for being solely platonic, just as charles & crystal's relationship and edwin's feelings for charles aren't given (that much) MORE weight for being romantic. crystal and charles' conflict in the closet is about EDWIN, about how they're BOTH his friend and BOTH want to get him back; it has very little to do with the feelings between THEM, romantic or otherwise. similarly, the weight of charles' and edwin's relationship isn't diminished in the LEAST by charles not reciprocating the romantic side of his feelings (or SAYING he doesn't reciprocate, at least—we can all argue about the legitimacy of that in the notes).

i'm sure there are more examples than this, as well as probably some examples that CONTRADICT this, but like... by and large, it feels like dead boy detectives is a show where all the relationships are given equal weight regardless of platonic, sexual, romantic, or familial status, and as someone on both the asexual and aromantic spectrums who has struggled time and time again with shows casting out the importance of all other relationships in favor of prioritizing romance, that is INCREDIBLY refreshing to see.

i don't think enough people talk about how the backbone of nie huaisang's plan hinged heavily upon jin guangyao's low birth, and the jianghu's willingness to dogpile on such people.

nie huaisang is upper class. he's specifically stated in the novel as behaving more like the idle rich than like a distinguished second young master of one of the five great cultivation sects, but he's still an heir by birth. even if nie huaisang had been more openly caught, who would do anything to him?

wei wuxian notices that bicao's testimony was bought with a few shiny baubles— that nie huaisang was the one who bribed her with a nice bracelet for her testimony. he intentionally kept his own sect half dead, barely afloat for years, just to keep up the guise of an incompetent loser!

but the only actual consequence he's faced for such poor leadership that probably hurt a lot of common folks in his territory over 13 years is that people think nie huaisang is an annoying, useless crybaby. nie huaisang has a level of protection from consequences that jin guangyao had to fight much harder for (and that jin guangyao ultimately never truly got).

nie huaisang knew his own class and social position extremely well, and he knew how most people of that position behave and think. he was more than willing to use this in his revenge.

we know lan wangji is the type to use his wealth and position to do good for others. nie huaisang is the opposite— he's the type to use his wealth and position for himself and his own personal goals.

and this wasn't just something that started after his brother died! avoiding responsibilities, never carrying his sword, ignoring the fact that he wasn't honoring his sect or ancestors the way others wanted… his underground ring of selling porn as a teenager even got him out of the worst part of the wen indoctrination camps, because he bribed the wen cultivators overseeing everyone else.

my point is, nie huaisang is self-aware enough to know he doesn't really ever do the "right" thing! at no point in the story does he delude himself or others with grand ideals of how one ought to behave. he doesn't care.

unlike almost every single other upper class cultivator in the story— jiang cheng, jin zixuan, nie mingjue, lan xichen— who all think of themselves as righteous in a way, who are always able to justify their thoughts and actions, rarely if ever able to conceive of those thoughts and actions as flawed or wrong... nie huaisang KNOWS his own selfishness.

like lan wangji, nie huaisang recognizes that his class can easily be used as a shield to do whatever he wants. while lan wangji at worst uses this nifty privilege to silence people he doesn't like, refuse to explain himself in inconvenient situations, and bring wei wuxian along with him everywhere, nie huaisang uses it to shirk his duties for decades and tear jin guangyao apart in revenge.

jin guangyao being the son of a prostitute automatically amplifies bad rumors around him. bringing to light his incestuous marriage and the gruesome way he murdered his upper class father, however deserved, is obviously going to impact him in a way that someone higher class wouldn't be as hurt by. combining that with a final lie to get his sworn brother to stab him in a flash of doubt, and well...

is that good or righteous or just? no, of course not. nie huaisang doesn't spend any time pretending that his actions were conducted based on morality, or that he "had no choice".

nie huaisang just wanted to destroy jin guangyao, and damn did it feel good to finally do it.

Percy can’t believe Nico agreed so easily to be his fake-boyfriend. It’s the last straw for Poseidon to finally get off his back and stop nagging about “taking over the family business and quitting his hobby”. (read: “hobby” as in his acting career that has been going on successfully for ten years, thank you very much)

Nico smiles devilishly. “Only for the subject of my gay awakening, yes.”

Percy sputters at that, “The what of your what now?”

In lieu of a response, Nico suddenly  grabs him by the waist and whispers, “Don’t look. Paparazzi. Outside.”

Percy panics. “This has to look real!” he hisses. “Or my dad is never gonna believe it. We should—”

Nico cups his face with both hands and brings their faces close together. How did he move so fast? His thumb is caressing the actor’s right cheek so so gently. Percy can feel a ghost of Nico’s breath over his lips. God, they’re so fucking close.

The younger man holds his gaze and Percy cannot help but wonder how those dark, brown eyes might be holding all the secrets in the universe. The immense proximity brings an air of anticipation, it’s almost as if…

“I like you, Percy.” Every damn word seems to have a string attached to it that tugs at Percy’s chest, making his heart beat at an unbelievable speed. Percy blinks, dumbfounded.

When Nico then brings his lips closer to his ear, Percy thinks he might faint from lack of oxygen, if only Nico’s hand isn’t supporting his arm. Percy can feel a tingling sensation in all the right places when he hears Nico smirk.

“How about that babe? Does that look real to you?”

“Y-yeah. You’re good.” Percy wishes his voice doesn’t sound as wobbly as he feels. He’s been in the acting industry for fuck’s sake. What’s wrong with him? 

“Just because I’m studying to be a writer doesn’t mean I can’t act. You’ve underestimated me, Percy Jackson.”

LITERALLYYYYY LMAO no he so is tho like 100%. he’d be like, begrudgingly excited about it at first; your favourite holiday is coming up, which means that the company just released their newest line of limited edition squishes, and you’re practically vibrating with desperation to own one.

the department store is busy, and you’re unbelievably indecisive, humming and hushing as you bounce from one stuffie, to the next, to the next, then back again, dragging him along with you.

with a furrowed brow and a steady stream of breathy grumbles, he’s trying to act so annoyed and so exasperated and so grumpy but you are just so fucking cute—eyes glittering and smile dazzling with one of your hands wrapped tightly around his wrist as the other reaches, fingers curling and vying in a little grabby hand that grasps at all of the different plushies, each procuring a sweet little gasp or giggle—that he just can’t quell the love tugging at the corners of his mouth or the adoration melting his glare or the fondness smoothing out his crunched forehead.

it‘s a treat to see you like this, innocent and authentic with buzzing excitement that thrums through your veins and radiates off your skin in delicate little droves, infectious as it seeps into his own and snuggles into his soul, warming his core. teeth sunk into your bottom lip, hesitancies are gnawed out in a self-conscious murmur, and tomura frowns, giving a little yank on your arm and scanning the toys warily. 

“i don’t understand what the problem is.”

“i just—i can’t decide! i want to get the best one, my favourite one, but i just—” turning towards him, your eyes are wide with worry, forehead creasing under the concern of making the wrong choice. “i want them all!” 

tomura sighs, rolls his eyes like you’re so silly, so stupid, but that fondness is back again, tender and warm and doting as it spreads unruly across his cheeks, ruby gaze syrupy with affection. 

“then i will get them all for you,” he says, simple and final.

and so, he does.

you’re still cute afterward, of course, when you’re cuddling one of the stupid things to your chest, palm rhythmically petting it’s tummy, or when you’re giggling and whispering to yourself as you hug it tighter to your sweet lil heart, lips spilling secrets and hopes and dreams into silky plush. but no matter how cute you are, tomura is unable to soothe the twinge in his chest as envy drags it’s claws slowly, steadily, almost gently down the inside of his ribcage. it’s never long before the sting becomes unbearable, before the sting has him ripping the dumb squishmallow from your hands and replacing it with himself, arms wrapped firmly around your form, your body pressed hard against his chest, lips grumbling low and rough into your hair about how he feels left out and he missed you and isn’t he a much better cuddle buddy than that foolish little stuffed animal?

of course, you’re telling him as soft palms stroke his forearms and sweet lips scatter precious kisses across his collarbone. of course he is; he always is, he always will be. 

and yet, despite all of it, he repeats this process every single time a new limited edition line-up is released that he’s sure you just have to own. because even though he dreads the bitter jealousy he knows will inevitably begin corroding his lungs the moment the two of you arrive home, it is nothing compared to the sunshine that pours from your smile when you gaze upon these silly little puffs of plush, or the bubbles of warmth that froth in your throat and out your mouth when you coddle one in your arms, or the look you give him when he gifts you another one, eyes overflowing with pure, unadulterated love, so much so it scalds his skin and singes his envy, snuffs out all of those acrid feelings and replaces them with a tender heat that glows pleasantly in your presence. 

and that, well, that will always be worth it.
